Walking home, there's a street corner I pass by to get back to my dorm. Like most street corners, this one had a street sign, demonstrating that such-and-such drive intersects with so-and-so avenue at that point. Well, at some point in the night, it seems that somebody (presumably in a car, though one mustn't leap to conclusions) slammed into the sign, because the actual metal pole was horribly bent, the sign for so-and-so avenue was mangled and at the bottom of the sign, and the sign for such-and-such drive was several feet away, lying in the grass, slightly bent, totally unconnected to the pole anymore.
Well, you know, how often in your life do you get such an opportunity? It was on the ground; it was bent, I said to myself -- they'll need to make a new one anyway.
Cue me at 2 am walking the better part of a mile back to my dorm just carrying a slightly bent street sign and an umbrella and trying to look like I have every right in the world to be doing what I'm doing.
If I recall, taking a street sign is a crime.
