Euxinograd Palace, Varna, Bulgarian Empire
29 June 1919, 1300 HRS
The Bulgarian Tsar was very much interested in the hostilities which were happening in Russia between the Reds and Whites. He had always supported the anti-Bolshevik Whites in their struggle, and while they had fought on opposite sides in the First World War, he now felt inclined to help them in the struggle against the Godless, Tsar-killing Reds of Moscow and Leningrad. His Foreign Secretary sat in the room with Tsar Ferdinand and talked about foreign affairs which needed discussing, mostly the Russian issue, as well as the deliberation of the German-Bulgarian alliance, the Dutch question and the restoration of Constantinople to Orthodox hands.
"Would the alliance survive if we were to provide them aid? What do you say, Petrov?"
"Well, Your Majesty, I would highly doubt the German foreign office would tolerate that. It would surely be putting a huge strain in our relations with the Kaiser and he might even be quick to end our alliance if you go ahead, Id' say. They are fighting the Ukrainians and they're also a German ally; we'd appear as the traitors helping the Russians."
The Tsar sighed, "What if they didn't find out?"
Zdravko Petrov, the Foreign Minister deliberated on this, "You'd have to talk to Admiral Danchev about smuggling arms, Sire. That is not in my field to discuss, Your Majesty."
"Right, right. Whatever. What of the Dutch, they've been an ambitious bunch recently, what is the most recent news?"
"Intelligence says that the Germans appear to be selling surplus of arms to them. Obviously they're wanting to create an Empire. Those poor souls, always being bullied by the English into ceding land since the seventeen-hundreds; New York, South Africa, Belgium."
"Diplomacy, Zdravko, not history."
"Right." He took a deep breath, "It has not been determined what exactly they're planning to do, but one can infer it has to do with Belgium."
Tsar Ferdinand nodded and let out a large sigh. "Well then that need not concern us. Now, the real question: the Ottomans. What do you suggest we take as our course of action into regaining Turkish Thrace?"
"They're not simply going to hand us Constantinople diplomatically, Your Majesty. War would be the only way in this case."
