The Prelude

The OOC

The mission had failed. The mission must continue.

High above the world of Adelia, a constellation of falling stars breaks the stillness of the night sky. Strange creatures and picturesque mountains bear silent vigil as man arrives on the new world, thrusters roaring and vehicles descending on pillars of fire onto the quiet planet. The new colonists have no arrived in the manner which they had planned, an organized taming of the wilderness and creation of a new home for mankind, but they were here nonetheless - and they would have to make the most of it.

Colony pod bay doors open on the shores of alien seas, mycelial forests, gaping chasms, vibrant plains. Their passengers are uncertain, afraid, but ultimately without other options. After the chaos and fire which consumed their mothership, the Harmony, they are splintered into a dozen tribes with different visions for this new world. It shall be shaped by their hands, shaped by their thoughts - but ultimately they will be shaped too by it, and a new result emerge.

To achieve understanding, the reed must bend before the storm. None survive without wounds. None go forward uncompromised.

Adelia Awaits.

Faction Landings

The Adelian Commonwealth: The people of the Adelian Commonwealth set down at the mouth of a large inland bay, in a somewhat barren landscape predominated by mycelial growths the size of trees and large stands of swaying red fungal forests which move independent of the breeze. The region's temperature is mild, and the landscape is mostly flat and coastal, save for a few rolling hills.

Cultivar (Stimroot): 2 Fruit production may be exchanged for 1 Stimroot production. If consumed by a Unit, that Unit gains an additional Melee attack for one battle.
Cultivar (Tarsop): Your Exterior Growbeds may exchange their normal output for 3 Energy.
Surveyed Lands:
Mycelial Mangroves, 2 x Fungal Tropic Coast, 3 x Savanna, Warm Beach, Teeming Jungle, Sunlit Hills, Grasslands, Mycelial Vortex, Riverlands, 2 x Temperate Coast

Adelia Research Commission: The Commission has set down within sight of a large range of mountains, nestled in a headlands between the highlands and the sea. The region is temperate and reasonably rugged, with a large amount of nearby vegetation with a pale aqua tint which is striking in contrast to the expectations of the Terran colonists.

Surveyed Lands:
Alpine River Gorge, Clouded Frozen Waterfall, Temperate Coast, Forested Hills, Verdant Coast

Boat Burners: Dr. Chao's followers are few as they emerge from their colony pod, but not without their resources. They salvaged what they could from the doomed vessel, and pursue now a new synthesis on this virgin world. Their landing site is a windswept peninsula, troubled by cold storms which roll intermittently down from the ice-caps to the east, but kept temperate enough outside of those times by the moderating influence of the ocean which surrounds them on three sides.

Eironic Consumer Protectorate: The descent to the warm volcanic island is not rough, but it is a strange fate which faces Tiffany and the few people who have landed near her - her main resource is an impressive luxury colony pod full of people who may or may not sabotaged the entire Harmony mission. The lands on this island are warm and forgiving, a hilly Mediterranean climate.

Dafnan: The men who followed Joseph to the planet have an abundance of tools, but very few men to wield them. Ah well. Certainly more will be attract to the beacon of liberal thought in due time. This area of wide flatlands near the coast is good for building and shows few signs of alien life - at least, macroscopic, with most of the vegetation being limited to spore clouds and low lichens.

The New World Coalition: On the shores of a warm island does the colony pod of the Coalition make planetfall, disgorging Rano and his followers. Here is a biodiverse paradise to be treasured, a land of sparse rolling hills and sparkling blue waters. It must be defended against those who would sully this new chance for mankind.

Sons of Hephaestus: In a sheltered bay not far from a large island men underneath the commands of Engineer Zakahrov step from their colony pod, the landscape around them wet with dew and full of the sound of running water. Clouds of miasma drift across the landscape occasionally, true signs of an alien ecosystem. This land will need to be tamed and recovered from the aliens that infest it.

Adelia Research Commission
2 Months After Planetfall

It might have been Adelian grass, but it sure did crunch the same under Caitriona's boots.

The Commission was understaffed, and under-equipped. There really wasn't any other way to put it. Cait itched to get started on research, her life's work, but there simply weren't the resources. She'd kicked herself plenty over the past months for not grabbing a portable lab before abandoning ship - at least then she'd have had something to do other than strain her eyes against unfamiliar horizons.

"Hey boss," One of the scientists who'd made their way over to her beacon in the days after planetfall called out to her, jogging up. Chris wasn't one of her closest subordinates, but he was a solid researcher - in biology, too, which could come in handy.

"Nothing. Just Adelian grass and Adelian trees. Interesting enough, but without resources we can't exactly study them." They shared weary smirks at that.

The man walked past her, clapping her on the shoulder gently as he did so. His gaze remained locked on the seemingly endless Adelian horizon.

"Come on, boss. We can cover another mile before sunset, anyway."

The Phoenixes
Planetfall + 4 Months

It was a strange experience looking at a strange sky, Fawzia reflected as she squatted atop the exosuit that had saved her life so many times aboard the Harmony. Sometimes a star would blink out of sight for a moment or two, and every time Fawzia thought it was one of the many metal fragments of the Harmony drifting between her and the distant star. She wondered what could have been done differently, how they could have saved the ship, and all she could think of was when they were on Deck 7 and the evacuation order had been given.

Cowardice had doomed the Harmony, was her conclusion. It was not a mistake her gathering of would-be colonists that had been rounded up from various lifepods scattered nearby would be making. They were quite lucky with where they had fallen, in the lee of a range of hills between them and a shallow, warm sea. They'd set up by the coast, near a floodplain which one of her few would-be colonists who said they'd been in the Botanical Department said would be ideal for growing crops in the future. Their camp was centered around a small metal pyramid, still under construction, that they'd cobbled together from debris from the Harmony and their own lifepods. Perhaps they could have built it faster, but half their number had been sent out to scout the local area. If there were any other survivors, or things of use or... Things that meant them harm, Fawzia wanted them found sooner rather than later.

If she was telling the truth, she hadn't expected to make it this far. She'd expected to find herself a cold forgotten tomb in space, her only legacy her name in the Harmony's crew manifest and the memories of those few that remembered her. But here she was, with her own scattered band. They needed to survive, first. Then they could set about being better.

Automation Specialist Takeda Kamatari

In all fairness it could have all been much worse. Takeda had within the day found a group of three other survivors, and the following day two individuals, and a couple were found. Quickly, it appeared as though he had around ten people, and that was not to mention a handful who had been sent off to explore the local area, looking for any signs of trouble, as well as, and perhaps most importantly, consider where anything that might be salvageable.

Undoubtedly there had been much to do- with rescuing those who could be located a top priority, as well as starting to work out what fauna and flora was good and safe- a good amount was learned by observing other animals,
but this was nothing compared to thorough research. Still, such a thing was for now impossible. So it was that with a sense of selflessness, and co-operation for survial, Takeda and his few local souls (relieved with their survival, concerned with its implications), would begin their journey towards creating a safe haven for the survivors of the Harmony, which, in time, would surely happen.

Surely?

Adelian Commonwealth
YEARLY MISSION LOG: Nishikawa Kameko

We landed in a comfortable enough position. The short-range scans did their job well, revealing the immediate terrain. The main colony is at the mouth of a large inland bay beset by a semi-barren landscape. Flora and fauna are fascinating sights: mycelial growths as tall as a tree and swaying red fungal forests moving independently regardless of the breeze. I’d love to study them eventually. The wealth of biodiversity is unimaginable — but without a lab — I’m forced to admire the pretty colors and shapes from afar. The temperature here is mild, which is nicer than in Tokyo and Northern Japan. Not a lot of hills here, just a lot of flatland and coasts. The colonists are adjusting to their new life on the planet, even if it is dreadful. No suitable shelter is available, and everyone lives in ramshackle dwellings. There’s a lack of everything — food, water, energy (electrical and human-kind), and industrial goods. Power and industry are our current focus, as food can be collected locally. Cultivar-T114CX has potential for energy applications alongside planned solar panels in the nearby Savanna. Food will be gathered at the grassland, a somewhat familiar sight compared to everything else. The rest of the colonists will be directed to set up a local workshop. Progress will be slow, but it will go. The first years will surely be a struggle. Eh, I’m tired…

Eironic Consumer Protectorate
Mission Year 1

“I’m certain I’ve seen colony ships streak through the sky. I won’t be alone with my settlement, that seems obvious enough. The bigger issue is that I have no doubt that while some of the crew might have been trying to save the ship, others were certainly content to loot it. I’ll need to find who is who sooner rather than later, then act accordingly.”

Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Grand Strategists' Private Logs

“I chose to allow the colony ship to land at the base of an island volcano rather than attempt manual override. If we are to succeed on Adelia, it'll be important to assume that the results of the considered strategizing of others will be superior to one's own sudden improvisation, in the absence of new compelling information. So why not start with that practice?”

Grand Strategist Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Consumption of Adelia

“I’m still experiencing a high from killing the captain, his confusion from being woken up to my fist, his scrambling as I kicked him on the ground, his helplessness as I strangled him to death and the satisfaction of dumping him like garbage he was outside of the colony pod. All exhilarating. But now, I’ll need to clean up some blood & get my story straight as I use residual power to wake up twenty colonists of my choice.

Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Grand Strategists' Private Logs

“Our team’s first task was quickly determining the usefulness of the land immediately around us. Grasslands & a temperate coast that presented each in their own way equally promising sites sourcing for food consumption. Hills & gravel beach, for the sources of materials to consume for construction, the latter useful for sourcing food at the same time. Lastly, was the presence of a warm beach upon which solar panels could be laid to great effect. We decided that the best land for our base, which we’d named Crimson, a name that reflected both the urgency of its current importance but also the fact it could one day be just another color in a spectrum, was the gravelly beach. At first, our estimations had it that none of this land would be worth putting to work for half a Mission-Decade.”

Grand Strategist Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Consumption of Adelia

“It’ll be years before we’ll be as productive as any of the vermin that chose to run around looting Harmony rather than attempt to save it or get to the root of the problem as I did. There’s no better place to excise this trash from the literal & metaphorical gene pool than this Petri Dish we call Adelia. We must secure humanity’s future through exterminating the type of parasite that doomed earth. It'll be easy enough to determine who they are. If they have anything more than we do, they’re almost certainly a cancer. We shall be the Leukocytes of Humanity.”

Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Grand Strategists' Private Logs

“Our constraints did breed innovative thinking. Contrary to what we first expected, we’d start working the land right away. We spent the first year gathering rubble from the nearby hills to have material for consumption later. Meanwhile, we’d have scouts exploring the region in search of new usable land & Harmony wreckage. The hope was finding land for a levee & industrial tools to build it with. This was no gamble. We needed materials for endogenous industrial goods at some point, so this was not lost time & we needed energy if we were to awaken more from cryopods. The only alternative would be consuming the labor needed for an Anthracite Furnace. Aside from the unseemly nature of returning to the carbon belching that doomed earth, we hadn’t even found anything to feed it yet. Nonethelesss, we did have enough spare energy to pull 10 more people out of cryosleep. Their role in the next year was assumed most likely to be just feed themselves, for the foreeeable future.”

Joseph Kalibronsky, Year 1
Holy Cow.
Joseph had made it to Adelia. He was immediately slammed with the realization of all he needed to do, but he could at least be thankful to have survived the harmony.

"Joseph?" one of his crew members asked. He turned around to see his friend from the reasearch floor looking at him, concerned. He found that he was kneeling on the ground, crying. Joseph stood up, wiped away the tears, and said, "Let's go. It's time to find a place to set up base."

He walked, remembering his mother, and all she did for him. Joseph knew that is what his faction needed. Surely Dafnan just needed some love and happiness. Once they got through the beginning, that is what he would need to do.

Not Surviving on Adelia,

Dafnan would be thriving.

Farholme, Northern Continent
February 21st, 2220

It had been hard, landing in the middle of that heavy rainstorm. The water falling from the gales had been frigid, near freezing, and the Chief Engineer had been grateful indeed on behalf of his men for the comfortable warm modular dwellings which the automated systems of the colony ship had deployed once they touched down on the basalt ridgeline that had become the foundation of their encampment.

There was still a bit of shock wearing off. Everything had happened so quickly - an hour to go from sudden waking to the trauma of fleeing a craft disintegrating around you, a craft that had been your home, even unknowing, for longer than most people got to live. He had been psychologically prepared to spend years aboard the Harmony even after she arrived in orbit above their target world, overseeing the work of colonization from the communications relays and nerve centers of the great ship.

Now he found himself trying to find food, water, and shelter for over forty people from all walks of life with no more than a personal computer and dead reckoning on a compass. It was really something to be thankful for that Simmons had managed to find so much flat space for them to land; this range of hills was windswept and nearly barren, but not far from a variety of useful microcosms of the local ecosystems, and had been a perfect place to set down the heavy lander. Even the experienced pilot had not anticipated "how wide of an ass she has".

There had been some minor injuries in the evacuation. Most he had assessed and made the draconian decision to allow to mend naturally, since their resources were so limited. Even good bandages might take some time to refine if they couldn't hit upon valid organic substrates, and it would be an absolute disaster if, say, someone turned to a natural remedy which happened to be spiked with organonitrates or some other similar biochemical barrier folly.

Adelia was, Dmitri reflected, more welcoming that he had anticipated - and more savage.

Most of the ecology he could have expected from Earth before the mass extinctions had at least a vague stab at an Adelian counterpart. Grass underfoot was multibranched and tried to retract itself slowly when you stepped near it into wax-lined hollows, but those were sensible biological decisions in face of the thick wet typhoons which raced across this continent at regular intervals. Trees had a formidable bark which included biological defenses and secretions to protect them against the miasma clouds which would occasionally drift out of the deeper forests. Animals were chitinous, or in possession of thick an largely inflexible leathery hides which could turn back the swarms of aggressive airborne organisms which were so fond of boiling out of warm lakes and streams when the conditions were right.

It could all bear a lifetime of study. He would happily be one of those students of the natural world, once the wellbeing of the people who had followed him to the surface could be assured. There was also the long term prognosis of the mission to keep in mind; perhaps man could adapt to Adelia, but it might ultimately prove wiser to adapt Adelia to man, as had been done on Venus and Mars.

Dreams of terraforming would be just dreams, probably for the duration of his lifetime. But the Platonic ideal held true. Great were the societies where old men planted trees in whose shade they would never sit.

As Adelia's star dipped below the eastern horizon, Zakharov allowed himself to stop contemplating diagrams for the new adjustable lathe for a few minutes, and took a meal communally with the team that had tried their hands at fishing in the rich river delta a margin of klicks south of the main camp. Even the best chef in the nascent settlement couldn't make anything too tasty out of most of the reconstituted nutrient wafers the purifier spat out, but the rich purple fruits that had come back from the spiny kelp forests were not half bad at all. They probably weren't even lethal!

Perseverance
May 12th, 2220

Commander Kwan surveyed the sprawling encampment that had become the Perseverance Colony's home base with a critical eye. The open grasslands provided little natural cover, but that made defending the perimeter simpler with clear lines of sight. A prudent choice given their limited numbers and resources.

Their first few weeks planetside had been harsh. They were fortunate in their landing site - a temperate area with water and grass. If they'd landed somewhere cold? With their lack of shelter? Well - it'd be the end for them. There had been a few bumps and bruises in landing, but nothing that the men couldn't brush off. That was the good thing about the men of Perseverance - they were tough. Efficient. Self-reliant. Former soldiers and security officers, willing to embrace hardship and struggle.

To a point. They trusted him, for now. He had done well in the hasty exit from the Harmony. But heroism, of course, was only so useful when you slept on the ground and ate nutrient paste for months - it was clear that their faith in him was slowly deteriorating. It was one thing to make the right decisions in a time of action - it was another to manage a settlement day in and day out.

For now, every able body was committed to the essentials - securing food, water, rudimentary shelters. Kwan had disbursed his people into regimented work details, organized by specialty. Their few botanists and biologists combed the alien flora for anything safely edible - or, at the least, anything that could be fed into the nutrient grinder, while their two engineers focused on directing the creation of temporary dwellings and workspaces from anything they could get their hands on. Most of them, at the moment, were best used as raw labor - himself included.

Today's reports reflected their steady, if slow, progress. The nutrient gathering team in the Black Soils had another decent haul, though rations would need to be carefully measured. The labor details had been completed as expected. They were working to establish a permanent workshop - a place to repair and fabricate tools, construct sturdier dwellings, anything they could manage with scraps and raw materials. That was what separated them from the Chitterers - tools.

That was something to be concerned about - the damned Chitterers. They hadn't seen one yet, but they'd heard them. Since the first night they'd landed. He'd assured them that Adelia's wildlife was likely more afraid of them than they were of it, but he knew that was a lie. Every ecosystem had its prey and its predators - and he had no idea where they fell on that spectrum.

As he surveyed their camp, his eyes lingered on the makeshift medical tent, where the damned sat day in and day out. Too injured to meaningfully contribute in any form or fashion, not injured enough to justify putting them out of their misery. So here they were, draining the resources of Perseverance.

Draining the resources. Was that any way to think about the men who had sacrificed for him? Of course not. That could very well have been him. But at the same time...a guilty nagging thought rattled around in the back of his mind. The thought that maybe, just maybe, they would have been better off dead. They stared off into the distance with scarred eyes, chewing and choking down nutrient paste - and they were understandably bitter about it. It discouraged the other men, an unspoken reminder of his decisions.

Shaking off the sentiment, Kwan reviewed the other reports. It wouldn't be long before they would be able to power up the cyroframe to release another ten hands - and he had to pick carefully.

For as much as they had accomplished, it was just the barest first foothold. There was still so much more required from each of them to transform this unforgiving globe into something resembling a permanent human home. But they had been chosen for a reason. They'd survive. He was damn sure of it.

Volcano View:
In the shadows of the great peak the men who follow Specialist Kamatari labor long and hard - their lives are not easy, lacking the prefabricated shelters and basic infrastructure of many of their fellow men, but hardship has yet to dissuade the Automatist from his aims, and it shall not do now. The fabrication of a new Base Core is well underway, utilizing electronics and materials fabricated from lifepods and the intermittent showers of wreckage which fall in the flatlands near their new settlement.

Out in the hinterlands the Scouts dispatched to seek advantage from their surroundings have stumbled upon what must be one of the most valuable things they could have potentially found - a great chunk of the Harmony has fallen to earth not more than a dozen kilometers away from the base, clearly identifiable as part of Deck 4 where the cryopods were housed. This section appears to have been mostly looted of her denizens, but dozens if not hundreds of colonists yet remain inside the wreckage, awaiting only the right thawing protocols to awaken from their slumber.

Moving the great hunk of wreckage will prove impractical, definitely, and the land nearby is hostile, teeming with fungal growths and strange noises which have the men on edge. With a sturdy Cargo Haulers, however, three Cryopod Frames could be claimed for the colony!

Adelia Research Commission:
A new Base Core rises as the men devour their rations, the few who have coalesced around the crash site of the Research Director's vertibird. The times ahead may be hard, but nothing great in the realm of science and human achievement was ever accomplished without some sweat and suffering. The Scouts dispatched to the hinterlands return with good news, and good findings in tow - they stumbled upon an encampment of other survivors, men and women making the most of their escape from the ship in lifepods much like those who have coalesced around Quinn. Only a small amount of convincing is necessary to be certain that their chances of survival are better together, and the newcomers swell the ranks of eager hands ready to labor for the ARC.
+Section

Dafnan:
Work is progressing on the small field of solar panels which the engineers are fabricating - the long hours and harsh conditions of the planet mean breakages and damage to the precision tools is accumulating, but they remain in good enough order for continued work the following year. Dafnan is not exactly flourishing yet, her people working out of simple survival tents on the harsh alien surface. But there would be time to remedy that once a humble industrial base had been arranged.

The Recon Rover tears through the terrain, noting dense concentrations of deep green foliage at irregular intervals and impressive pink scintillating beasts the size of men skittering away when they approach. Such creatures of chitin and mandible would probably be best not to provoke, but thankfully they withdraw as the large engines of the Rover growl over the hills. At least for now.

At first the exploration turns up nothing overly useful over a few months of sweeps - they merely survey and catalog a local area, some fertile Grasslands which will no doubt be useful for feeding the nascent colony. A second pass near a line of hills, however, turns up some survivors sheltering in the mouths of shallow caves. After a brief exchange of stories and a few weeks of traveling back and forth to Dafnan to transfer their goods, the survivors are easily enough integrated into the swelling society Joseph oversees.
Land Surveyed: Grasslands

Farholme:
Along the shores of the northern bay many hands labor at the creation of new settlement, acutely aware that every passing month sees their local resources dwindling and the urgency of their situation increasing. Zakharov leads work on erecting a small industrial foundry centered around an automated Lathe complex, determined to begin fabricating needed tools and alloys before they run into a genuine bootstrap problem, and also oversees the working of thawing out a subset of the engineering team originally recruited to work on food security and biosustainability. Hopefully their labor will be a boon to the colony in the years to come.

Local expeditions do not turn up as much as might be hoped, despite the two teams assigned to the task. A range of unprepossessing Hills is surveyed as a potential site for future mining activities, but sweeps further away from the colony toward a river delta happen upon other survivors, who have gathered by the watercourse expecting rescue. They are incredulous about the true fate of the Harmony, and take some convincing, but eventually agree to return to the colony and join forces with the people of Farholme.

Additional searches for useful goods turn up a crashed pallet of Preserved Food, which the Rover team happily hauls back to base, as well as what appears to be a fallen Cultivar biosecurity unit. The biosecurity unit is not accessible, however, having landed in what seems to be an area of particularly high alien activity and miasmatic concentration. Even modest attempts to approach the salvage have seen obvious threat displays from the local sea-green lifeforms, mostly of a species roughly equivalent in size and shape to Terran dogs, if those dogs were the height of a man's chest and in possession of scaled armor. Without orders to engage, the Recon team returns to base to consider their options.

Phoenix Landing:
The people are working hard at establishing a basic command and control center under Fawzia's direction, the scrap-metal pyramid designed to keep off rain and snow and maybe even resist alien attack rising swiftly. The Scouts dispatched to diligently search the surrounding area have returned quickly, with truly good news; a cryobay has been spotted landed not far away nearby. Hundreds of ready hands, only waiting their chance to contribute to the colony's wellbeing. There is, however, a snag. The force of the landing appears to have produced a sort of immune system response in the local fungal life-forms, who have all but entombed the cryobay in immense purple-and-red mycelial growths, and appear to be in a state of foment about the crash site. The Scouts did not get too close, fearing aggression. Some means will need to be found of either clearing out or placating the native life before the riches of the cryobay are available to the Phoenixes.

Crimson Base:
With ten of the colonists thawed out, Tiffany has stumbled upon a problem - the military men who are expecting to be waking up under the Captain's command seem much less inclined to follow her orders than the other survivors who have taken naturally enough to her leadership. Thus far they have been unwilling to disclose even so much as their identities, using codenames to refer to eachother, a development which is very suspicious in the eyes of the other colonists. Still, given the circumstances, they seem willing enough to work to ensure their own survival, and even put in longer hours than the rest of the settlers in the colonial endeavor...
Section Gained: Military Colonists - Military Colonists produce -1 Harmony, but add 1 a resource of the output of basic Land types. They are also definitely loyal. Definitely.

Thankfully these newcomers will be balanced out by the normal settlers which the Scouts have returned with, a section of men and women from cryopods that ended up scattered around the northern bay of the island and had set up a makeshift camp not far from Crimson. They are not difficult to convince to work with the other survivors, and are added to the numbers of Tiffany's followers.
+Section

Perseverance:
The labors of Kwan's men are long and ultimately successful - a sturdy Workshop has had her foundations laid by hook and by crook, months of work patching together scrap from landing pods and local biomaterials and stone where they could slowly producing a small building's nascency after they are run through fabrication units to make the omnipresent construction-slurry which Kwan had become far too familiar with in the last month. His men have been untroubled by the native life, though they do sight several creatures akin to large dung-beetles appearing to watch their progress from the underbrush upon occasion. Appearing to watch, thankfully. Certainly these were just curious animals, nothing more.

Adelian Commonwealth
Conditions at the site of first landing Nishikawa has arranged are less than optimal - which is not her fault in the least, but a consequence of the many souls she saved from the wreck of the Harmony. Many of the biologists, researchers, petroleum engineers, and security personnel would have been happy enough in emergency tents and essentially camping for a week or two. Hell, maybe even a month. But as seasons turn, men start to grumble.

It is natural enough. They would just have to put up with it, at least until they could get a proper Workshop online and begin turning out concrete and rebar for constructions made out of anything aside from cellulose pulp and sweat.

At least there would be more hands now to make light the work. Between the dozen men and women thawed out of cryo, and the other tranche that the Scouts had found out in the hinterlands, the number of workers was swelling precipitously. More people had escaped the wreck of the Harmony than Nishikawa had estimated, which was all to the best in establishing a new colony here.

The first year passes, and another year dawns bright and cold. Adelia's rhythms are still strange indeed to her new denizens, but they are coming to be more comfortable with the alien skies and unknown constellations. Every Base gains +2 Harmony next year.

Perseverance Colony
March 14th, 2221

The year's labors had finally borne fruit for the fledgling Perseverance Colony. Commander Kwan allowed himself a rare moment of satisfaction as he surveyed the newly completed workshop. Though little more than a sturdy structure, it represented a crucial milestone - a first step towards true self-sufficiency on this alien world.

It had been a prolonged effort getting the facility operational, with every able colonist pressed into construction duties. Kwan's engineers had to be innovative, piecing together components from the depleted landing pods and whatever biomaterials and raw stone they could acquire locally. Running it all through the fabricators produced the ubiquitous construction slurry that now coated Kwan's hands more than he cared to admit.

But they had succeeded. This simple workshop would be the first of many things to come. Tools to master the wild. Weapons to defend their borders. Production of goods, to get these damned colonists off his back.

Throughout the tedious process, the colonists had remained unbothered and unharmed by the various dangers of Adelia's ecology. Though Kwan's work details occasionally spotted curious lifeforms akin to massive dung beetles observing them from the alien underbrush. Just watching, he hoped. Just curious bugs, rather than a looming threat requiring mitigation. Because at this time, he was not ready to divert resources towards defense. Not yet. Not when there was so much to be done.

With the workshop's completion, Kwan had opted to rebalance his people's workloads. One team would continue gathering vital nutrients from the fertile black soil region, while a separate detail began scouting the surrounding area - mapping topography, surveying for advantageous resources to exploit next. Finding survivors, he dared hope?

The change of routine did little to improve souring morale, however. Crowded into makeshift ramshackle dwellings under Adelia's eerie maroon sky, murmurs of discontent and complaints of long work-shifts grew more audible. Kwan tried rallying them by expounding their noble mission, humanity's perseverance on this new world no matter the struggle. But words can only suffice to do so much when sleeping under the sky for months on end and chewing on tasteless nutrient mush.

Still, they pressed onwards, awakening another ten colonists from cryostasis - ten more minds and skillsets to leverage. Callused hands pulled the newly-roused men into their work schedules without delay. There could be no rest. Survival first, and foremost - no matter how much they would complain.

The Phoenixes
Planetfall + 1 Year, 2 Months

It was a crude shelter, but it was, nonetheless, a shelter. A far cry from the enviromental domes that Fawzia had once called home, not similar even in shape for a pyramid was far more easily built than a dome out of scrap metal welded together, but it was still something. A reminder of home. A pale imitation of what had once stood on an Earth that for all she knew, was now long since dead and buried. They'd put the most vital systems in the middle, a crude water purifier, a cobbled-together reactor, a food processor. Crude tools, but effective enough. The pyramid would be finished sooner rather than later, as much effort as it had taken.

Fawzia's current dilemma lay several miles distant, where an entire cryobay had seemingly landed, but been swiftly covered up by the native flora. The cryobay was practically entombed by mmense purple-and-red mycelial growths, and although fire and steel might have been an option, Fawzia knew that they lacked for both. The scouts had been unwilling to approach too closely, fearing aggression, and Fawzia would prefer to simply... Mollify the native life into releasing its prize. How to do that was a matter that required mulling over. Perhaps simply feeding it might work? An offering.

How very primitive and superstitious. But if it worked... It was worth a try, wasn't it?

She'd set the scouts to continue exploring. The more they knew about the planet, the more of a chance they might have of learning a way to get their prize released.

Adelia Research Commission
18 Months After Planetfall

Things were starting to come together, and yet the Commission remained an eternity away from their goal - at least that was how it seemed to Director Quinn.

The Base Core had taken nearly two years to assemble, which was only natural for a crew of ten workers with no specialized equipment - but it stung. Doubtless there were half a dozen factions of officers sprawled across this new planet, equipped with tech they had looted from Engineering or Docking, and already industrializing this untapped land. Not so, for the Commission. All they could do was keep assembling scraps and praying for the success of the scouts in the mean time.

"We set out in the morning, gents. No time to waste." Nods all around from the exploration crew. There was hardly anything to do at the base aside from manual labor, hauling of materials for the base core and gathering of food for sustenance. Caitriona had long since made herself more useful with the scout team, having a keen eye for the abnormal in the already strange landscape of Adelia. In years to come, she would almost certainly be stuck back at base managing things, hopefully with some research time on the side, but she'd be damned if she wasn't going to take advantage of her license to roam while she could.

Maybe the current situation wasn't all bad.

Eironic Consumer Protectorate
Mission Year 2

"The new colonists I've had awoken from Cryosleep seem to be far less enthusiastic about my leadership than the rest. They call each other by code names, reluctant, for whatever reason, to use their real names. its quite a nuisance, to say the least. They must be upset that I found their operation & killed their leader. Though luck for them, perhaps he should have done a better job dooming the ship. Hopefully they either tell me their plans or give up on them. I'm unlikely to be able to wake up too many of their peers any time soon any way."

Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Grand Strategists' Private Logs

"Our scouts first exploration attempts happened to bring back a section of men & women of Harmony that had built up an encampent nearby. Unsurprisingly, they were happy to join us & live in clean safe habitation instead of trying to rough it out in the wildness. It is difficult enough to survive on this planet alone, what we need is unity if we are to thrive. Not only of those immediately around us, but of all of Adelia, too. Around the same time, we also managed to rescue 10 colonists from the cryoframe from the clutches of cryosleep. Here, we entered a period of friction, but we were certain it didn't appear to be anything that couldn't be overcome."

Grand Strategist Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Consumption of Adelia

"Having three sections to work with has greatly improved our prospects in the near future for catch up to & perhaps surpassing the traitors to humanity crawling across the planet. There was no doubt in my mind the very first thing I needed to do was command two of our sections to get to work building a mine in the hills we'd recently gathered from. Which any luck, another year of exploration may net us another lost section, allowing us to complete its construction in two years. If not, I'll have to settle with three, which is less than ideal, but not worse than to be expected. Hopefuly the mine strikes coal & will be able to put up an athracite furnace next. Its a shame that we have to return to the use of carbon-based energy, but all of this is ultimately the fault of the fact fats that arrivied on this planet with equipment to spare."

Tiffany Abdelmassih

The Grand Strategists' Private Logs

"Crimson Base rather quickly came to a concensus that the correct course action was to commit labor to the construction of a mine in the hills nearby the colony. Our Scouts will again head out again, looking potentially for more lost sections, or a equipment we could put to work improving the base. We considered for instead, engaging in a survey of the local area, But we decided that sincee it'd be easier before even the mine was complete that there was no reason to concern ourselves too much with what we'd build next. Even then, we did discuss how we felt about the possiblity of making use of furnaces for power generation. We came to a consensus that if it made since for us, we would. given our resources limitaions."

Near Farholme, Northern Continent
May 4th, 2220

He wasn't entirely sure he endorsed this plan. Their two rovers really weren't built for combat, possessing barely more than a door gun meant for scaring off wildlife, and their frames mostly open to the elements - or to teeth, claws, spines, acid... whatever the local creatures happened to be packing.

But the logic was sound. Dmitri had talked it through with the lead of the animal studies division, Fidelity Gritens, and she was convinced a bit of loud noise and some bullets fired overhead could scare off the xenobiologicals which had chosen the crater where the cultivar containment unit had fallen as their new home. It would be a novel experience, and the creatures weren't in particularly large numbers. With only a few margins of luck, and not too many predator pheromones, they would be back to base in no time with a new treasure in tow.

The crew was nervous as they rattled along over the mostly-barren moors which composed much of the countryside on the way to the landing site. Geological surveys hadn't turned up anything conclusive, but the engineering chief was becoming increasingly convinced that Adelia was a young world in exoplanetary terms. There wasn't much soil built up on the rocks, and groves of what passed for canopy plants and ground-cover were middling rare by his comparison to even the harsher environments on Earth. Maybe that was just this part of the planet. He couldn't be sure.

At any rate, it made pulling mineral-laden rocks out of the ground less than difficult. They hadn't stumbled upon anything interesting, like surface ferrous ore deposits, but it was only a matter of time. Certainly the fabbers hadn't had any trouble turning the trace deposits into a bit of rebar for construction and some scrap alloys that they were considering making into a Type-17 All-Terrain Cargo Vehicle. The gluey rock-residue of the extraction process had proven a useful binding agent for the small manufacturing yard that would hold the Industrial Lathe.

As they bounced across a field of volcanic debris, Dmitri looked up, contemplating the strange stars. After weeks of seeing them at night, he could appreciate the beauty they gave to this colony, no cityglow to drown out the tiniest lights and the backgrounds radiation of the Milky Way. He couldn't see Sol with his naked eyes, but he knew where he pinprick would be. This would have to be home now. That was the whole reason he was out here.

And yet he couldn't stop gazing at the night sky occasionally.

Dafnan + Joseph Kalibronsky, Year 2
Obviously, food was top priority. In Joseph's head, priority went: Food, Energy, Upgraded housing, than they could begin to relax a little, while working on research and industry. With a small amount of energy already almost finished, food was what needed to happen. Of course, Joseph toiled away at the work Just like anyone else, and Joked around with his Factionmates in his spare time. Even with so much labor, Dafnan was pretty happy as of now.

Not Surviving, Thriving.

Joseph was already making friends, despite the challenges this planet had laid out for him and his faction. The Rough Terrain was not hospitable, but they could make it work. After all, how could Joseph not with the love of his mom always cheering him on. Joseph Began tell his faction to start looking out for other factions, for if they were to truly survive, COOPERATION IS KEY

Year 2
Renewable Array → Finished!!!
Started Building Exterior Growbed on Salish Coast → 0.5 Industry from Terraformer, one From tools → 1.5/2 Industry

Everyone Fed → -2 Food, 5 Left
-2 Harmony from Ramshackle Housing

YEARLY MISSION LOG, YEAR 2: Nishikawa Kameko

I’m fucking tired. Typing in the mission log is already draining my energy. I want to sleep, but there’s no shelter or even a decent pillow to lay my head on. At least we’re not starving, but eating nutrient mush day-in-and-day-out is not all too enjoyable. The rest of the colony is just as miserable as me: tired and complaining. Progress is awfully slow, and it’ll be a few years before we get everyone full housing. Promises of a better tomorrow are the only thing keeping us forward alongside full stomachs, but having bad digestion is not something I like. The colony is growing nicely, albeit it’ll increase the demand for amenities. The scouts were sent off on another exploration; I don’t know what they’ll find. It might be another bunch of colonists or something else…I can’t be bothered to speculate, nor can I be bothered to type anymore. I’m going to sleep.

Automation Specialist Takeda Kamatari

In time it was hoped, more colonists could be brought out of their frozen state- though this process of thawing and animation without all of the inbuilt safety precautions when the crypods were integrated with the Harmony would surely be an energy-intensive process. This would be a problem for a latter time however. For now, Takeda and the near-dozen survivors who were working together had finished establishing- utilising the resources from the Lifepod, elements of scrap which were manually handled into position, and ramshakle improvisations which passed for shelter- a Base core. From here, they could generate a small amount of energy, and some essential nutrients.

The coming priorities were thus food, and sophisticated engineering. It was only so good to eat recycled nutrients, and diminish the small emergency stockpile of food- quite another to experiment with local fauna and flora- a more reliable method of securing sustenance and nutrition was required. Furthermore, there was only so much that could be done with jury-rigging, and hodge-podge engineering- they had to set up some form of basic workshop. This would be a priority, utilising salvaged materials and tools- and it was these that the explorers would look to secure first.

The Redeemed Cult

As the eyes of the cultists opened, they were met with a bright shine too strong for them to resist. An alien sky, a marvellous creation of god, for them and for only them to utilize. As they just sat there, paralyzed and unable to shake off the beautiful aura surrounding their mind. For their initial reaction would be shaken off soon, these first moments of the cult would be something they would write down. For this was something truly distant. They noticed that the surrounding land was suitable to human condition, in the distant they could see a swirling and squirming ocean, and the land while made up of a composition they could neither understand, they neither wanted to, as it righteously clicked in their mind that god had proven to them, that they were indeed blessed, yet again, with this starting landing. The cult was hopeful and dedicated at the absolute start and perhaps pinnacle of their grand journey.

The Holy Diary - Entry 1

I am just-this is unparalleled with our modest expectations, like truly, fellow cultists thought that this would be a harsh battle for survival and a duke out to prove to god our standing and forever dedicated devotion. But it is already much MUCH better then I, we, thought. I have had our followers tirelessly work day and night on and we managed to complete our base of operations, it will produce goods of great value over the coming... decades, centuries? We're not sure about the end of the rapture exactly but we're ready to wait to whenever! But enough about that, we send scouts on exploration, will they find new land? Cryptic-pods?-or whatever they call them, look I am not the technical dude of these new operations. But I am the most loyal one, I know!

Beneath the alien sky, the many disparate factions of mankind are, if not exactly flourishing, surviving. As long days with diffident food and harsh labor narrow the minds of many, others look to the world around them for inspiration. This is, after all, a world virgin and new, with ten thousand possibilities and a hundred thousand hidden secrets. Most of the crew of the Harmony are scientists, engineers, men and women naturally curious about their surroundings. And the most humble advancements can come from observation, not merely work in a storied laboratory.

For the next two years, each Faction receives one Research.

Volcano View:
The cold ocean laps against the beach of grinding rock and sand, buffeting the newly laid foundations of concrete beneath the headquarters that the people with Takeda had chosen to erect here, within sight of the endless sea. There was a primal rhythm to the push and pull of the tides which calms men even in the strangest of circumstances - and this is not to be despised. From this humble beginning, great things may unfold.

News from the scouts is excellent - they have located another cryoframe, resting place of brothers and sisters, lodged upon the slopes of the great mountain in a perilous crevasse. With some effort the area around the immense edifice could be stabilized, so workers can extract it without overmuch danger. There is good news about this also, for the leader of the explorers believes, with sweat and primitive log rollers drawn from the local flora, they might even be able to convey the cryoframe to Volcano View without the use of a Cargo Hauler. It will be much labor, however, and likely upset the local ecology.
Retrieve Cryoframe [0/4 Labor]

Adelia Research Commission
With more hands, and more familiar faces, it is not long before the final systems are installed in the Base Core and it hums to life. Relief spreads throughout the workers; they may still have to shelter in tents and primitive dwellings for now, but the simple firearms integrated in the headquarters structure mean they can slumber in relatively security for a time.

Sweeps of the local terrain soon sight smoke signals, signs of a campfire or campfires in the open terrain. Investigation reveals another group of survivors with an informal encampment in the lee of a harsh rock bluff, where they have been ekeing out an existence off of the terrain. Negotiations take longer this time, as the other colonists are more settled; but the excitement about what can be done with many hands eventually wins over the other members of the crew, and they agree to join forces with the Commission.
+Section

Dafnan:
In the shadows of the mighty mountains the solar array gleams, newly-bred silicon wafers drinking in the sunlight and filling the energy banks to bursting, an investment for the future. There is much to be proud of here, placing the first pieces of industrial infrastructure on this new world. Work on the exterior growbed, however, has not proceeded as swiftly as was hoped; the machine tools brought from the Harmony, having seen heavy use, are now essentially worthless pieces of junk, more fit for recycling than labor. Only one Industry has been contributed in total to the growbed itself.

There is good news however from the Recon teams - a group of survivors has been located in the lee of the peaks, sheltering in riparian crags, and they are all too eager to find better accommodations for themselves. They are quite numerous, and the Recon rover is detained almost the entire year ferrying them and their goods back to Dafnan. But with this many eager hands, much will be accomplished in the years to come, this is certain.
+2 Sections

Farholme:
In the familiar stamping chambers of the Industrial Lathe, workers of the Sons of Hephaestus might now live up to their names - with the smelting crucibles online and the pouring machines prepared, now all that remains to be decided is to what end the valuable output of this facility will be allocated.

There is fortune in the first expeditions of the scouting teams near Farholme - the aliens which had been infesting the landing site of the Cultivar containment unit appear to have lost interest in the impervious cube of perspex in the intervening months, and the valuable specimen is retrieved without any conflict. Local surveying also maps out a region of thickly forested chill heights, a Boreal Ridgeline which no doubt will be of great use to the colony in years to come.
+Cultivar (Oilleaf, +1 Food, +1 Energy from Exterior Growbeds)

If there is fortune in the first sweeps, Providence smiles warmly on the second team dispatched into the hinterlands - as they move through low grassy plains they stumble upon the towering edifice of a Cryopod in her entirety, launched from the Harmony with hundreds of souls onboard. It appears to have fallen into a region of thick miasmatic influence, and will likely involve clearance efforts before it can be hauled back to the base. But here is opportunity, eventually. In their second sweep the Recon Rover comes upon a small detachment of survivors migrating across a region of frozen tundra. They are overjoyed to be offered a place of refuge, and return with the explorers to Farholme.

Phoenix Landing:
On the cool banks of the sea the Base Core has risen, a headquarters from which the Phoenixes can now pursue the rebirth of mankind in truth. The short range scouting has come upon a useful thing indeed - they have sighted the telltale glass glint of a Cultivar containment unit not far into a nearby fungal vortex. With a bit of work, it could be cut free of the immense mycelial growths that enfold it, as there do not appear to be any motile creatures in this area.
Free Cultivar [0/2 Labor]

Crimson Base:
Down into the earth the workers of the Eironic are delving, cutting the slipways, cargo-channels, and air vents necessary for the humble working to begin extracting valuable ore from the shallow skin of Adelia. The scouts dispatched to the hinterlands have not, unfortunately, stumbled upon anything of value this year in their grid searches; instead they take the time to map and categorize a nearby region of the bay, an area of chill rugged Alpine Heights with excellent potential for resource extraction.

Perseverance:
A workshop, humble hand tools and laborious manual fabrication facilities - it is not much, but it is a doorway to the future. A doorway through which the men and women who follow Kwan's mandate can now step, to their joy. The scout team has returned with something of great value; a portable scanning unit, which it appears another group of survivors must have carried down to the surface with them. If it can be brought online, it should be able to provide the people of Perseverance with a wealth of local topographic and geological data which will no doubt be of great use to their work...
Activate Scanning Unit [0/2 Energy] (can be incrementally invested)

Adelian Commonwealth:
There is much to be thankful for this year - with the first Workshop now functional, the steps toward resilient industrial production are proceeding apace. All, however, is not well. The men and women of the Commonwealth have grown dissatisfied with their harsh living conditions, and the relentless drive toward industrialization while dozens sit in ramshackle dwellings.

A general strike is threatened by representatives of the laborers. Your advisors opine that bribing some of the ringleaders with increased rations may be sufficient to break up the industrial action. You may either:
Allow the Strike: 3 Sections will not work next year
Approve Increased Rations: 2 Sections will now consume 2 Food every Year

Out away from the troubles of the colony the Scouts regrettably have little of value to report in their sojourning; they have sighted nothing of great importance, and so instead return with surveys of the nearby landscape. A region of warm and abundant native life has been mapped out, Fungal Hotlands which have great potential for food growing if the xenobiological predators can be cleared out.

The Redeemed Cult:
There is good news from the blessed headquarters; local harvesting has managed to defray calorie budgets that the commanders anticipated, resulting in the consumption of only one of the stockpiled ratio silos. The Scouts dispatched to gather information about the local region return quickly, a strange man with them. He claims to be a representative of a faction that calls themselves the True Hearts of the Enclave, and is amicable toward the doctrine the Cult espouses. It is not hard to convince these True Hearts to join the mission, for together they stand a better chance of surviving than alone...

The Phoenixes
Planetfall + 2 Year, 7 Months

Fawzia was starting to wonder if anyone else had actually survived to see planetfall. It had been three years since they'd made planetfall and finally, finally, the center of their new home was actually finished. It wasn't much to look at, a scrap pyramid of weathered grey metal crudely welded together, and it leaked badly whenever there was a bit too much rain, but it was something. A sign of progress. The inside was a big, hollow space but for the internal support pillars, and they'd pitched everything they needed to survive. A water filter, a scratch-built reactor and a food synthesiser sat proudly in the middle, ringed by tents and crude tables.

The scouting team was still out, so the small empty area set aside for them was empty. The labourers had returned for the night from a day spent hacking away with crude tools and the walker at a mass of nearby fungal growths, attempting to free a seemingly still intact glass container embedded into the biological mass. Perhaps their time might have been better used elsewhere, for now, but with such few people, and their current living situation seemingly stable enough in terms of food... There was little they could actually do themselves, currently. Perhaps the exobiologist furiously working away at a crude table in the corner logging the scouts and workers observations of the ecology might yield some way of coaxing the wildlife to yield up the cryobay, if they were lucky.

OOC Note: Brief one due to RL

Automation Specialist Takeda Kamatari

Takeda sat himself down, his back leaning against a rock whose edges were not perhaps the friendliest to his back. Ignoring his discomfort, he clenched his eyes shut. For a fleeting few seconds, he could imagine that waves lapping against the shore were exactly like those back in his original Japan. Each time he had to force himself to imagine it it seemed to last for a few seconds less. In time, he was sure he wouldn't even think of earth as his homeland anymore. Adelia was there's. In a weird way, the eleven of them, not counting the handful of adventuresome survivors who spent most of their time wondering and occaisonally coming back to rest and recuperate- were like one large clan. That said, three couples had formed.

Two weeks ago, Takeda had actually presided over a marriage, officiating the ceremony, and blessing the couple on behalf of the survivors of Volcano View. It was, in all truth, actually quite a picturesque little area- though the fungal, overgrown hills were still very much a no-go zone- they simply couldn't trust the local flora and fauna and know that it is safe. He supposed that being asked by the couple to lead the fledgling colony through the marraige was a recognition of his informal status as an almost father figure for them- even though one of them was actually a bit older than him, and most of them were only a handful years younger- it was more a matter of him having a large and impactful story in terms of why he had evacuated teh vessel alone in an escape pod- he had after all selflessly tried to save the ship.

He closed his eyes again, this time remembering the drifting exosuit which was slipping away into the void, blue light shining vibrantly from the Reactor Deck section he had turned away from. He thought of Fawzia insisting on staying to carry on with her desperate repairs. He had chosen to take his leave- he had justified it as looking to help others on the vessel, but perhaps, in all truth, he had given up, and he was scared.

Maybe he was a coward? Fawzia certainly wasn't.

He thought of her: frozen, breathless, her corpse unable to decompose- it had probably burned up in the atmosphere after the exosuit had been pulled in.

Fully leant against the rocks apathetic edges, the pain of his body nothing to that of his heart, Takeda began to weep.

Farholme, Northern Continent
December 25th, 2222

The date was wrong. Dmitri smiled anyway, hands carefully unwrapping the gift as men and women crowded close, the hubbub of the occasion meaning more than what had actually been given by far. Inside of the diffident brown cellulose packing material was... a new razor. The bearded Russian grinned now not merely out of social obligation, but genuine delight.

It was frivolous. Somebody in fabrication had wasted good steel on this mirror-bright implement, and no doubt had the cooperation of all of the conspirators.

"Merry Christmas!"

The burbling exclamation came in a ragged chorus from those closest to the commander, and he warmly returned their greeting. There had only been a smattering of snow on the moors overlooking the encampment, but it made him feel positively nostalgic. Even if the yuletide tree wasn't actually a conifer, but instead a construction of paper and mache, it meant a lot. Little rituals like this were integral in ensuring the cohesion of the colony in these hard times.

They had had to start housing some of the newcomers in the headquarters, with little prefab sheds outside for personal space. It was very much less than optimal. But there wasn't much to be done - the slick polymers and machined alloys of the habitation pods from the Harmony weren't even in their technological horizon to replicate, and convincing the oldest colonists to keep on eating cram just so some joiners could hang out elsewhere than the tents wasn't a viable solution.

It was unfortunate that the best machine tools had worn out quicker than he anticipated. The rocks were hard here, and even well-conceived instruments designed for theoretical conditions on Earth couldn't function forever without maintenance. Still, with the pressing and extrusion engines online, they could at least make more humble copies to supply the needs of the workers in the field.

Zakharov returned from his wool-gathering to hug Tanya and chat amicably with some of the other men, before excusing himself to the communal washrooms with his new present in tow. His beard, ruddy copper with flecks of white, had grown long and wild since their arrival on Adelia. When he returned to the celebration, just in time to carve the hot roast that Stella had pulled together out of reconstituted proteins, his face now bore the neat moustache and trim beard which he had been unable to favor for months now.

He felt better now. More human. And in his guise as human, he looked out the windows of headquarters toward the untamed wilderness beyond.

AUDIO LOG, MISSON-YEAR 3: Nishikawa Kameko & Callum Young

Nishikawa Kameko: I can’t blame them. Conditions are awfully…terrible, and that’s putting it lightly. I sympathize with them, but progress can’t be done without burden. Let’s hear them out, at least. Bring them in.

Callum Young, Strike Leader: Ms. Kameko, good to meet you. I’m sorry that we have to meet at these unfriendly times. As you know, my workers are unhappy with their work situation. Our demand is simple enough; either you grant us extra food rations, or we continue to strike.

Nishikawa Kameko: How much food, and if we don’t?

Callum Young: We require double the amount of rations; if you don’t comply, we won’t work.

Nishikawa Kameko: I can’t argue with that thinking…I’ll budget the leftover nutrition mush to your workers.

Callum Young: Wonderful. A simple deal was made in a few seconds. Efficiency, I like it. And if you could, assign the new housing units to some of our workers.

Nishikawa Kameko: I’ll think about it, but thank you for your cooperation.

Callum Young: Hhm.

Eironic Consumer Protectorate
Mission Year 3

"Exploration efforts this year have been a disapppointment, not a complete one, but a disappointment none the less. Nothing new from the Harmony has been found at all, the only 'good' that's come from these efforrs is a survey of some alpine heights, which is unlikely to be worth much to us any time. We have no need for a second mine, yet it'd be a waste to build anything but a mine there. I've sent military colonists out there to gather rubble for us, but the honest truth is I am having stockpiling this merely because w have nothing better to do, but this material will only be any use for us years from now we have more than one industrial lathe to work, or if we unfortunately have to waste time with the construction of a more primative. The situation is poor, but at least we have food."

"Our scouts exploration of the nearby region in the second mission year provided us mixed blessing. We unfortunately failed in finding new colonists to bring into the fold or industrial equipment to put to work to build up our manufacturing capacity, but we did manage to survey nearby alpine heights that had proven to be an excellent location for a second mine for Crimson Base to be built, we decided some time after the conclusion of the first. We noted the additional resources that had been gatheed by our military trained peers in that location would also give us the flexibility to operate a workshop for a few years withour having to worry about working to suppy it, which certainly gave us more options."
