The dry heat of summer barged through the open windows like an open oven. The conference room was filled with a silence that hung upon a dry twig. Calm composures made an obvious show of worry and unease. President Sema could feel herself sliding off her chair as she wiped a drop of sweat on her forehead, nervously clicking a pen with her other hand.

'An interplanetary threat?'

General Ui Jia wasn't fond of the thought of alien invasions. He leaned forward to give his voice on the table. 'Our military isn't exactly composed to defend against vertical attacks, much less a presumably technologically advanced civilisation!'

The whole table was hopeless. The ministers blended awe and fear with disbelief. The generals could only think of no more than desperation. Silence fell upon the room once again. Of the threat, they knew none and nothing.

'An advanced civilisation...' President Sema broke the silence, her eyes set upon the table's surface of polished wood. A bare reflection of her nervous face could be seen through the wooden patterns. 'Surely being civilised, they know how to talk peace and reason with us? Give diplomacy a chance? There... There must be a misunderstanding!'
