Simon "Yupanqui" Almagro, 1961-2015. - LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
Image

Account Name: Ikania
Occupation: Senator and Journalist
Positions in Government:
Senator of the Calaverdean Legislatory

Constituency: Perdido-Orgullo, Rideau (Former)
Political Ideology: Democratic Socialism. Federalist. Supporter of LGBT and women's rights.
Family: Single. His parents died in the mid 90s, his mother by liver failure and his father by heart attack.
Background: Half Peruvian, half-Chilean, he was born in Uruguay on July 11th, 1961. He left Uruguay with his family at an early age after their new house was damaged in a battle between government forces and the Tupamaros. He was named after Latin American hero Simon Bolivar, but was often called "Yupanqui" by his family and friends. Yupanqui is a suffix for Incan Emperors, most notably Sapa Inca Pachacuti Yupanqui. He grew up in the capital of Calaverde, and was witness to the Black Sabbath of 1984. He was working a part time job at a local fast food store when the attack commenced, and helped herd customers to the meat locker, where they hid until the massacre was over. After this, he took to campaigns and activism until he was forced into hiding after speaking out openly against the government. In 1989, he founded the newspaper Contrafuerza as a means of rebelling against the government through speeches and propaganda. This highly influential newspaper was banned officially only weeks after its first issue was published, but people continued to read the paper in secret, especially from the late 90s onwards when the internet was invented. Though little people actually had access to the internet, it made spreading news much easier. Starting with the 2006 revolution/civil war, Contrafuerza became the de facto newspaper of the rebellion. In 2008, Almagro signed on with the paramilitary organization El Ejército Republicano de Liberación and fought as a soldier until he was wounded in a 2011 firefight in the southwestern jungles. He was shot twice, one just below the knee and the other grazing his wrist. He recovered fairly quickly and entered back into active service, but never saw any action due to the Loyalist forces being all but wiped out. After the war was won, Contrafuerza published one final issue, with over 100 pages that detailed all the lives lost in the war. Simon was elected to the constituent seat of Perdido-Orgullo in downtown Rideau, and was assassinated near the Calaverdean News Corporation headquarters in San Cristobal on February 5th, 2015.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
"Do you support independence for the Adrianer Dutch?"

Personally, no. I don't think Adrius is economically stable enough to survive as a country. They are an integral part of our culture and country, and I think it would be best for them to stay with us. But all people deserve the right to self-determination, which is why I'm going to push for a referendum on Adrian independence.

"How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics?"
Well, the Tupamaros in Uruguay certainly inspired me to fight against the government during the civil war, but my main motive for becoming an activist and politician was the events of the Black Sabbath. I was a witness to the event, working at a McDonalds in the capital. The ensuing oppression was enough to make me stand up and fight for my rights.
"What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia?"
Russia's actions are in clear violation of international law, specifically the Budapest memorandum. Their continual denial of proven support to armed rebels in Ukraine is only further fueling the conflict. Calaverde should impose heavy sanctions on Russia, and if this behavior persists, a full-on embargo. I support bringing peace to the East and holding an internationally-observed vote in Crimea as to whether it belongs to Ukraine or Russia. As well, Russia's treatment of homosexuals is downright inhumane, and we should not be doing trade with other countries that violate human rights such as China or Saudi Arabia unless it is clearly the best solution to a problem we have. Thankfully, Russia's economy is crumbling and the ruble has drastically decreased in value. Perhaps this crash is a foreshadowing of events to come for the Russian Federation.
"How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices?"
We must not become completely dependent on foreign sources; we should instead seek more renewable forms of energy than gasoline. However, it would be a profitable option to make the best out of this situation.
"What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast?"
We should have heavier regulation of the logging industry to ensure that Calaverde's amazing variety of plant and animal life can remain unharmed in the future. We should be taking further steps to prevent the destruction of our forests and coastline, and put more protection on the marine and tropical life that inhabits our great nation.
"What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join?"
I can't name them all, because there are too many. Many of the organizations for Caribbean nations would beneficial to our country, but I think the two highest priorities would be the United Nations as well as all associated programs, and NATO, for the security of our nation and to counter outside aggression.

Sr. Vera Cruz, there is no need to call me "Senator." Please, call me Agustín. The secret is very simple. The love of my wife, prayer three times a day, and plenty of Finca Tejeda coffee.

OOC: My intent was for him to be 62, but got it mixed up. Bio has been edited accordingly.

  1. How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics? -I saw my father, a small landholder, struggle to feed our family. I knew that I had to do something to help out. Later, when I returned to work the farm on my own, I was disgusted by the ill treatment that small farmers and especially our indigenous brothers and sisters received at the hands of large landowners and the junta. My friends told me that I was the man for the job, to make the voices of the rural people heard all the way here in our great capital.
  2. What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia? -I think that caution is required on all sides. I am not pleased that Ukraine has elected an oligarch as its president, but neither am I a friend to the kleptocracy that is Russia. I hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
  3. How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices? -I believe that alternative fuels are the way forward so that the swings of the global oil market do not have an undue effect on our nation.
  4. What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast? -I think that our best environmental scientists should consult with fishermen and farmers to figure out the best way to preserve our wonderful home without damaging the livelihood of those most vulnerable.
  5. What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join? -We should certainly join the OAS and the OEI. I would be in favor of exploring the possibility of joining the Commonwealth of Nations, La Francophonie, and CARICOM. We should also apply for observer membership in Mercosur, to make cooperation with our South American brothers and sisters more easy.

Account Name: Ubouhu Unguani Ahingichuni, United Provinces of Atlantica
Objective: Adrian independence
Political Affiliations:
Libertarian Socialism, Garifuna ethnic nationalism, Garifunism (Zapatismo), Communalism

Location: Calaverde, though primarily in Ubouhu/Adrius.
Size: 2,500 (military members only)
Typical Uniform/Attire: Standard jungle camouflage, but with three distinctive yellow, white, and black stripes diagonally on the shirt (the Garifuna flag).
Background: 16/5/66 - UUA founded with the support of the USSR, Cuba, and China.
13/7/66 - UUA officially declares Adrius an "independent socialist and Marxist-Leninist state, to be until world revolution known as the Democratic People's Socialist Republic of Ubouhu" and declares war against Calaverde, starting a guerrilla campaign.
17/4/73 - The UUA launches a terrorist attack, bombing a military base and several businesses. This begins the "Dark Days" in which the UUA continuously bombs businesses, schools, the military, and homes, as well as aircraft hijackings, leading to extreme fear among settlers in Adrius and the Adrianer Dutch.
29/2/80 - The "Dark Days" officially end, as the UUA decides to "completely focus its attempts on the war of national liberation."
11/9/86 - The UUA devotes all its resources to removing the junta from power, instead of Adrian independence, as they see it as a short-term goal.
3/12/91 - The UUA officially abandons Marxism-Leninism in favor of Libertarian Socialism. They also abolish the DPSRU and instead establish the "Ubouhan Communal Federation".
2007 - With civil war in Calaverde, the UUA successfully achieves Adrian independence. However, the proposed state isn't a federation of communes, but rather a parliamentary democracy with libertarian socialist elements.
2012 - The UUA tries to defend Adrius from annexation, but to no avail. It continues its struggle in the jungle.
Supports: Adrian indepndence, Libertarian socialism, EZLN, ethnic nationalism, indigenous rights, Communalism, Social ecology.
Does not Support: Calaverde, colonists, the former junta.

Jean-Luc Martin is still open to all questions.

  1. How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics?
My upbringing, living under the junta, having my father and so many others close to me murdered, truly changed me. And after being shown an alternative in Paris by the PCF, and then reading Kropotkin, all before the age of twenty, it made me a crusader.
  2. What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia?
Since I've held views on politics, I've been against Imperialism, whether that be here in Calavede and all of Latin America, in Palestine, or in Ukraine. I fully express solidarity with the Ukrainian people and thus I'm strongly against Russian imperialism in Ukraine.
  3. How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices?
I feel that we should fully transition to green energy, like wind and solar, in order to not be subject to the whims of the oil market.
  4. What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast?
As a botanist, I'm proud to say I'm an environmentalist. I strongly support following our neighbor, Costa Rica and its example by banning recreational hunting and attempting to become a carbon-neutral county. I also support very strict nature reserves in most of our rainforests, islands, and also our water. As an incredibly biodiverse and beautiful nation, I support legislation to keep it that way.
  5. What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join?
I advocate joining CARICOM, the OAS, the UN, the OEI, La Francophonie and the Commonwealth of Nations. It is important to connect ourselves with our region, our roots, and our world

Laurent d'Aunis - Democratic Left
Image

Account Name: Olerand.
Occupation: Senator.
Party Position(s):
N/A.
Positions in Government:
N/A (Possible in the future).
Constituency: N/A (French language majority constituency).
Political Ideology: Social-Democrat.
Family: Spouse: Christiane; children: Thierry, Marianne, Ségolène.
Background: Born to the d'Aunis, a wealthy family from {French-majority area} with a long, if somewhat sordid history in the nation. The d'Aunis, from minor noble stock in western France, immigrated to Calaverde during its French colonial days, quickly rising to become one of the foremost plantation-slavery owning dynasties in the colony. After the island's transfer to the Spanish empire following the French defeat in the Seven Years' War, the d'Aunis scrambled to protect their fortunes, establishing strong relations with the Spanish colonial administrators, and providing at least two wives to the Captaincy-General of Guatemala. The family weathered independence with its fortunes relatively intact, and survived the abolition of slavery by establishing a system of mostly-benevolent servitude vis-à-vis its newly freed workers. The d'Aunis established strong contacts with the political establishment of the republic, without ever entering politics directly for about a century. Their first contact with direct political power came during the election of Senator Laurent's father, Senator Louis-Philippe, to the Senate as a member of the Socialist Workers' Party, representing the "gauche-bourgeoisie or burguesía-izquierda" faction. The resulting coup and rise of the Generalissimo distrubed the nation greatly, but did not endanger the d'Aunis family, who survived, despite their political affiliation, due to shared blood between them and the new leader's family. Senator Louis-Philippe became a close adviser of the Generalissimo, representing the regime's "left-wing" and social aspects. Senator Louis-Philippe died in the early 2000s, a few years before the fall of his friend from power.
Senator Laurent, a dual Calaverdian-French citizen as all his ancestors before him, attended Sciences Po Paris, then ENA. He was elected Senator in the late 1980s, a few years after the rise of the Generalissimo. He shared his father's convictions and his family's tenacity to survive. His rise to prominence occurred in 2006, during the revelation of the true origins of the fall of the republic. Aware of the coming tide, the Senator broke ranks and became a prominent opponent of his father's friend. He survived the fall of the previous leader, and maintained his prominence and power amongst the nation's French community. Recurring calls for investigations to be held concerning the exact relationship between the d'Aunis family and the regime resurface every now and then, only to be quickly silenced by the Senator and the family's political machinations.

  1. How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics? Well, my adoptive father was well boss and taught me lots of shit about how to pirate. But he also taught me that sometimes the system can be subverted against itself to provide an opening.
  2. What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia? Russia should be Hostis Humani Generis.
  3. How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices? Procure additional stocks of oil by seizing in-transit tankers.
  4. What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast? Kill any American developers who come in. Unless they've got a lot of money they are willing to provide me with, in which case I'll stab the f*cking parrots to death myself.
  5. What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join? The British Empire.

Any more questions for The Dread Pirate Roberts Senator Kourie?

Calaverdean News Corporation wrote:How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics?

I didn't enter the political stage to play party politics and superficial favouritism on a governmental level. No, I entered politics to represent my home community in Calaverde, because they are those that matter and after years of junta rule we are all grateful of our chance at democracy. I suppose you could say that the restrictive rule I succumbed to in my youth greatly influenced by positions on government, but it is the community of Calaverde that influenced me to enter politics for them.

Calaverdean News Corporation wrote:What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia?

I condone the actions undertaken by Putin, labeling them as misguided and foolish. I would like to see diplomatic action resolving the issue. Nevertheless, this event is not a top priority for the people of Calaverde.

Calaverdean News Corporation wrote:How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices?

The decline in petrol prices will mean that a smaller proportion of our people's wallets goes to transport costs, indicating a boom in consumer spending on other utilities. I believe that we should ride this wave for as long as possible, rejecting the tempting tax hike to counter the growth, but we should implement benefits to taking ecologically-friendly alternatives to petrol and petrol-using vehicles as well. It is also important for the Central Bank to keep track of inflation, as to not create a bubble so early in the stages of Calaverde's new life. We have to keep credit under control primordially.

How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices? - Calaverde should open up coal mines again, in traditional coal mining areas.

What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast? - We should stop fat cats building on 'em, unless they're buildin' a coal mine for honest, 'ard workin' men to get their livins from.

What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join? - Our nation should be isolationist, 'cept for tha' UN.

Senator Miguel Aracruz

  1. How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics?

I grew up in our capital for one, so I was constantly exposed to politics via the news and daily life. My parents were poor, uneducated laborers, but they took every opportunity they could to learn about the world and its situation, and they frequently discussed politics, so growing up, I was very interested in politics.

  2. What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia?

It is absolutely despicable what Russia is doing. Crimea belongs to Ukraine, as established by international law, and Russia is not complying, and in the process hurting Europe and its economy as well. We should strongly condemn their actions and show our support for Ukraine; however, intervention is taking it too far.

  3. How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices?

Well, oil as a commodity can be very unstable, which is why we should never fully rely on it. Instead, we should invest in renewables and thorium research, and protect our environment as well.

  4. What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast?

I think we should, firstly, ban hunting of endangered species, and ones in harm of becoming endangered. We should expand and create nature reserves as well. Calaverde should also try to be carbon neutral, and lastly, we should teach children about the importance of conservation in schools, and build zoos with the purpose of educating the populace.

  5. What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join?

I believe we should join CARICOM, the UN, the OAS, the OEI, La Francophonie, and possibly NATO. It is important to be connected to the world, so we can flourish in peace.

Senator Laurent d'Aunis

  1. How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics?
I entered politics in the late 1980s, so as to serve the interests of our nation and its many different demographic groups. My family has held influence amongst Calaverde's French community for centuries now, and we believe it is in the best interest of all of the ethnic groups of our nation for us to be involved in ameliorating our conditions.
  2. What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia?
I believe in moderation. The opposing parties must meet, and resolve this issue in a way that best protects the rights of all involved. The sovereignty of Ukraine must be maintained, but the rights of its Russian ethnic minority must also be respected.
  3. How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices?
Take advantage of it to encourage a move to more sustainable sources of energy. Our nation has a magnificent natural order, and we have much potential to develop a significant renewable energy sector.
  4. What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast?
Encourage the growth of the phenomenon of "eco-tourism", as in our Costa Rican neighbor. Our nation is gifted with its natural beauty, and we must ensure that this beauty remains for those who will follow us, as for all of humanity, to enjoy.
  5. What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join?
The UN, of course. Along with la Francophonie. I am open to joining regional development organizations and the like, and other international organizations that our fellow Senators would like to join.

I trust that this gentleman is in fact purely hypothetical, of course?

Of course, Mr González. Now, in the alleyway over there away from the security cameras I think I noticed the Calaverdian (sp?) football team and, uh, Led Zeppelin and a conspicuous lack of Nickelback. You should go over there and check it out.

Do you like rum?

Have you ever watched a man die before you?

Have you ever stabbed a nosey customs inspector with a naval dirk?

I'm afraid I don't support the national team.
And it's Mr Iglesias González, thank you very much.

Pytor Aminev - N/A
Image

Account Name: Murkwood
Occupation: Journalist
Political Ideology: Tradtionalism, Liberalism, Anti-Socialism
Family: Maria Aminev (Wife), Wilhelm Aminev (Son)
Background: Pytor Aminev was born to a Polish family living in exile in Sweden. After the Solidarity movement, he opted not to go back to Poland, rather finishing his Masters in Journalism at the University of Stockholm. While there, he got married to his Calaverdean wife, Maria, who was an exchange student. He also got a job at one of Sweden's largest right-wing papers, a job he holds to this day. In 1996, he won a seat in the Swedish government as an Independent, which he held until 2002. Later, he moved back to Poland and joined the Polish Congress of the New Right, further radicalizing his views. While back in Poland, he and his wife Maria had their first child, Wilhelm. In October of 2014, after much prodding from Maria, the Aminev family moved to Calaverde. He continues to advise the Congress of The New Right. His newspaper column, The Way I See It, has four versions, a Polish, Swedish, Calaverdean, and International version, and is syndicated in over 150 newspapers worldwide.
Faith: Catholicism
Likes: Tradtionalism, Money, Asian Food, Poland, Polish Nationalism, Carl Gustav XVI
Dislikes: Socialism, Communism, "Centrism", Calaverdean Food, Sweden
Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • Mr. Aminev, you are very disliked by many people and are called, and I quote, "a lying hatemongerer" and "a fraud", amongst other things. How do you respond to these criticisms?
Well, those people are probably far-left Socialists working with the WA and DemLeft to undermine our nation. True Calaverdean patriots know that I only tell the truth.
