I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

Manifesto

Postby Regnum Dominae » Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:18 pm

Image

The LFP believes that the attainment of absolute liberty in all areas of society must be the ultimate goal of a free society.

Economics
Libertarians believe in economic freedom and non-intervention in the economy. Leftists want to make the rich poorer through punitive tax rates; we want to make the poor richer by allowing the free market to take its course.
Laissez-Faire Capitalism
Libertarians believe that economic freedom must be the guiding principle of all economic policy; as such, we support laissez-faire ("free market") capitalism. We believe that this system is the freest, as well as being the most successful system for creating the most wealth for the most people.
Energy
Libertarians believe in an "all of the above" energy policy. We recognize the need to further develop renewable energy technologies; however, at the same time, we feel that it would it would be a waste to let the world's vast remaining fossil fuel reserves to go unused. We oppose any plan to reduce the overall energy consumption over time. We support the increased use of nuclear energy, and reject anti-nuclear sentiment as irrational, psuedoscientific, and technophobic.
Taxes
Libertarians see taxes as a necessary evil, as something that is unfortunately necessary but should be kept to the lowest level possible. We support a flat tax with a standard deduction regionally adjusted for cost of living. We oppose excessive property tax as an attempt to punish success, and we are strongly opposed to a death tax. We support a moderate sales tax. We are opposed to any attempts to "spread the wealth" through punitive tax rates on high income earners.
Environment
Libertarians acknowledge protection of the environment as a worthy goal, but we believe that the environmental movement has gone too far. We are uncompromisingly opposed to any "cap and trade" program. We support a removal of the various environmental obstacles to new development that have slowed growth in recent years; we are especially opposed to the "environmental impact reports" that can often drag out new development projects for years or even decades. We support the continued existence of a national park system, but believe that some parks should privatized through sale of parklands to private owners who pledge to sustainably use the land.
Free Trade
Libertarians support unrestricted free trade between the nations of the world. We are uncompromisingly opposed to tariffs, and to any so-called "fair trade" restrictions.

Personal Liberty

The LFP supports immediate legalization of cannabis.

We do not support government involvement in marriage. However, as long as the government continues to involve itself in marital affairs, we demand equal recognition of all marriages, without regard to gender, number, or any other factor.

We believe that a woman has the right to terminate a pregnancy, as dictated by the principle of bodily sovereignty.

International Liberty

We support a well-funded, well-trained military for the purposes of national defense. However, we are staunchly opposed to imperialism and acting as the world's policemen.

Political Liberty

We support the right to vote for all.

Party Rules and Procedure

Postby Regnum Dominae » Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:19 pm

Image
Party Leader: This is Gaveo, who created the LFP. The founder is granted these powers:
To kick members from the party
To ban Senators from posting in the party headquarters
In the event of the founder becoming completely inactive, the current chairman shall take over as the de facto founder for the time being. All Founder actions may be overturned by a majority vote or by the chairman.

Chairman: Runs the day-to-day affairs of the party. The chairman is granted these powers:
To kick members from the party, with the support of a majority vote
To ban Senators from posting in the party headquarters
To appoint and remove the vice chairman
To appoint and remove the senior whip
To notify the senior whip of the party's stance on a bill being voted on
All Chairman actions may be overturned by a majority vote or by the vice chairman.

Vice Chairman: Assists the chairman in the management of party affairs. The vice chairman is granted these powers:
To appoint and remove junior whips
To overturn chairman actions
To direct the election of the party chairman, which shall take place every two months

It is the Chairman and Vice Chairman's duties to keep party members aware of party affairs, organize changes in party policy, and other actions necessary to the successful running of the party.

Senior Whip: It is the duty of the senior whip to ensure that party members actively vote on Senate bills, and (in the event of a two or three line whip) vote according to the party line. The whip (or lack thereof) for a specific bill will be told to the senior whip by the chairman. It is then the whip's responsibility to inform all party members of the vote and ensure that their votes reflect the party platform.
NOTE: I plan on issuing less whips than I was before. I will, however, still issue three line whips on things that go directly counter to everything we stand for, such as establishing socialism or a state religion.

Junior Whip: Assist the senior whip in his/her duties. I don't intend on adding these until we grow a bit more.

Recruiter: It is the recruiter's job to monitor applications of new Senators, and investigate to see whether the new prospective Senator is a good match for the LFP. If so, the recruiter will send them a telegram encouraging them to join the LFP.

Party Members: Party members have a critical role in the party: they can call for a vote to change party policy, and they vote for the Chairman.

Some of the other parties are working on tax proposals in their own threads, so maybe we should start working on one...

Here's a super quick tax proposal I just did to maybe get something started...

5%: $0-$10,00
10%: $10,000-$35,000
12%: $35,000-$82,000
16%: $82,000-$180,000
20%: $180,000-$320,000
22.5%: $320,000+

A flat tax of 10% would be better and easier in my opinion though.

Then yours is very similar to the US tax code then d:

Because that one is just some number shifting of the US income tax and minus all of the other crap that came with it.

Just one thing I was wondering. Our manifesto says we support a flat tax. So, is this proposal say, in line with compromising with other parties?

I agree. I mean later it doesn't get as bad but from less than 10,000[*] to greater than the percentage doubles.

Of course. And a flat tax of 0% would be even better and easier.

But we can't push that though.

If you really want a flat tax rate though, perhaps try a higher rate with 1 large deduction. That way it will be progressive, and possibly (although unlikely) have a shot of actually going through.

I'm starting to think that initially we should start by pushing a pure flat tax. If we start out standing our ground instead of compromising from the beginning.

(Vast oversimplification) If we start at 50% and the other side starts at 100%, we will end up around 75%. If they start at 100% and we start at 0%, we will end up around 50%.
Those percentages don't refer to tax rates, they refer to a scale of ideology with 0 being us and 100 being them.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

I would say 10%. Of course that won't pass the senate, but we shouldn't begin negotiations already having compromised away our position.
