[DRAFT] Repeal "Condemn DEN"

Postby Wallenburg » Fri Mar 18, 2016 6:57 am

Since the condemnation of DEN is winning in the general vote, I've taken it upon myself to prepare a repeal. Suggestions and advice are, as always, greatly appreciated. Snark is not.
Repeal "Condemn DEN"
Category: Repeal || Resolution: SC#192 || Proposed by: Wallenburg

Recognizing the international impact and historical infamy of DEN;

Committed to the condemnation of raiders whenever necessary;

Observing this condemnation's awful and rushed construction, which has contributed to a wide variety of basic grammar and spelling errors;

Irate that these flaws were intentionally inserted into this condemnation, disgracing the World Assembly;

Aghast that this condemnation trivializes DEN's actions as mere "sport";

Disturbed that SC#192 fails to mention many major regions raided by DEN;

Amused by the ridiculous and inaccurate claim that DEN conquered the West Pacific;

Greatly disappointed that the author of this condemnation failed to publish the proposed resolution as a draft, instead bypassing a critical process of review and improvement, and even obstructing a prepared, well-written condemnation of DEN from going to vote;

Remembering that a previous condemnation of DEN was repealed for the same issues that plague this condemnation;

Knowing that the raiders of DEN and many other raiding regions consider condemnations medals of honor rather than any sort of punishment for their actions, a reality that this condemnation recognizes but ultimately chooses to ignore;

Aware that DEN and many other raiders have suffered greatly for their misdeeds and have been reduced to fragments of their former strength, in a manner far more effective in curtailing the most despicable practices in the raiding community than any World Assembly resolution could ever be;

The World Assembly hereby repeals SC#192, "Condemn DEN".

Co-authored by Nohbdy.

EDIT 1: Edited eighth clause to replace "his" with "the".

No dice. It is a snarky, crappy written resolution, and is exactly what DEN deserves in a condemnation.

Edit: My little eye also spots me a 4(D) violation.

How on Earth and heaven is this not written from the WA's perspective?

"His" refers to the mysterious individual from the nation that wrote the condemnation. Nevertheless, I'll tweak it.

this second clause does not make any sense

Committed to the condemnation of raiders whenever necessary...

maybe change it to

THINKING that DEN has worked to get the condemnation for their actions

i think it just doesn't add up grammar-wise in my mind ;)

It's pretty straightforward. The World Assembly states, through this proposal, that it condemns raiders when necessary to do so. There are no grammar problems in that clause.

This is embarrassing. I wrote a rough draft of a repeal a few days ago, but my internet was cut off again before I could submit. :blush:

I think it's unfortunate that regions like DEN can do this kind of thing, but at the end of the day, it's survival of the fittest and if a region can't protect itself, then it's tough crap. As noted, a condemnation is seen by these kinds of regions as a goal to work towards, and I think it would have just been more appropriate to ignore them, or possibly send aid from some WA regions to protect victims of DEN and similar such regions.

"Conquered" is too strong of a word for it. Come to think of it, "took over" is too strong as well, but it's the closest thing to an explanation of what happened that we have that does not require a paragraph to explain. I guess "tagged" would work as well. Just not conquered.
