Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cypras

Cypras has historically followed a non-aligned foreign policy, although it increasingly identifies with the West in its cultural affinities and trade patterns, and maintains close relations with numerous nations. The island nation currently has a booming tourist industry with around 5 million people a year visiting the island for its beautiful weather, stunning views and inspiring culture. The nation also has a world renowned wine industry and it is thought that the seabed around the island may contain reserves of crude oil and natural gas.

The nation is also a retirement destination for thousands of people from all over the world and as such the property market has soared over the past few years and is still set to climb. Cypras also has a very highly developed infrastruture which has attracted many offshore companies to set up base on the island.

Cypras maintains the doctrine of armed neautrality and all men are conscripted into the army at 18 for 24 months. The nation was brought to international attention when it gained independance in 1960 and then following a turbalant political history involving coups the split of the Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

The split occured after massive ethnic tensions and turmoil and as such the Turkish Cypriots claimed independance from Cypras and formed the Turkish Republic of Northern Cypras which occupies the top 3rd of the island. However, this state is generally unrecognised by the international community and the Republic of Cypras has de jure soveringty over the island despite the Northern part having its own seperate political system. The island is effectively split into two with the capital of Nicosia being split also.

The international community has tried for decades to reconcile the peoples and unify the island but so far this has all failed. The nation does contain numerous foreign peace keeping forces and also has two foreign military bases on its soil at Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

However, the current President of Cypras, Dimitris Christofias, and his administration have decided to expand diplomatically to ensure further internation cooperation and to gain further political, economic and social advantages as well as allowing foreign investment to flood into the nation.

All Embassies shall be placed in one of 4 cities:Nicosia in the government sector on the Republic of Cypras side, Limassol, Larnaca or Paphos.

Nicosia: The largest city in Cypras and the nations capital. It is the seat of government and the center of business as it is located virtually centrally on the island. Nicosia is important commercially with many shops, two modern shopping malls, restaurants and entertainment. The city is a trade centre and manufactures textiles, leather, pottery, plastic, and other products. Copper mines are nearby. Nicosia is the seat of the University of Cyprus (UCY) and four other universities.

The Cyprus Museum in Nicosia is the biggest archaeological museum in the country. It is home to the richest and largest collection of Cypriot antiques in the world. These consist exclusively of objects discovered on the island. The exhibits have been stored in the same building outside the city walls of Nicosia ever since the establishment of the museum in 1882 by the British administration reigning the island at that time. Ethnographic Museum of Nicosia hosts the largest collection of ethnographic artifacts in the country which includes costumes, pottery, lace, metalwork, woodcarving and paintings. Nicosia hosts a number of art galleries. The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre associated with the Pierides Museum of Contemporary Art was opened in January 1994 and is situated at the Old Electric House building generously donated to the Nicosia Municipality by the Cyprus Electricity Authority. The city hosted the competition of Miss Universe 2000 in the Eleftheria Indoor Hall.

The city also contains numerous sporting teams and stadiums as well as theatres, great hospitals and a great infrastructure.

Limmassol: Second largest city in Cypras and the largest port. Limassol is renowned for its long cultural tradition, and is home to the Cyprus University of Technology. A wide spectrum of activities and a number of museums and archaeological sites are available to the interested visitor. Consequently, Limassol attracts a wide range of tourists mostly during an extended summer season to be accommodated in a wide range of hotels and apartments. There are also plans to build a large marina in Limassol.

Larnaca: Larnaca is the third largest city on the southern coast of Cyprus after Nicosia and Limassol. It has a population of 72,000 (2010) and is the island's second largest commercial port and an important tourist resort. The island's largest airport, Larnaca International Airport is located on the outskirts of the city and it is the only airport to have a VIP Terminal. To the north of the city lies the island's former oil refinery, which was reduced to a storage facility after the refinery itself was sold in 2008. To the south is the Larnaca International Airport. The city of Larnaka is well-known for its picturesque seafront which includes rows of palm trees. Larnaca Marina is one of the four official entry points, by sea, to Cyprus.

Paphos: The birthplace of Aphrodite, Paphos is a cultural beauty. On a beautiful stretch of coastline, surronded by traditional villages and vineyards. A truely relaxing place with 5 star hotels and beautiful cuisine. Contains an international airport, schools and hospital. Unfortuntly it is not known for being a political hub.

We do not recognise Northern Cypras. All flights shall go through Larnaca International Airport (VIP Terminal) and recieve armed escort to location by the Cypriot National Guard.

- Number and Type of Weapons: Our weaponry has changed from embassy to embassy, and now we have reduced our firepower from previous embassies. Each member of our security detachment will carry: A Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol (with 3 additional magazines), pepper spray, taser, security baton, and an M9 knife. If allowed, sufficient stock of M4A1 Carbines and Remington 870's will be kept in a secure weapons locker room in our embassy in case of any catastrophic events or rebellion. Also, in the locker room will be a sufficient stock of M14 rifles used only for ceremonial purposes (state visits, parades, holidays, celebration days, etc.) Only the Glocks will be carried outside the embassy in a concealed manner.

- Number and Type of Vehicles: All land vehicles will be armored (civilian armor, not military armor). Two (2) Cadillac DTS (Ambassador's Vehicle+Backup), two (2) Chevrolet Suburban's (Security Vehicles/Multipurpose), and four (4) Ford E-150 (2008 model) Vans.

In regards to schools we have drawn up a list and we believe that the best school for you is the American Academy of Nicosia, it is a private, Christian school which is well known for its excellent teaching facilities and has a reputation of being one of the best schools in Cypras, it is also known to get most of its students into prestigous universities. As for a house we don't feel this necessery as the school is not to far from your embassy plot.

Your dogs are allowed in but will have to undergo a quick health check by Cypriot officials. In regards to slavary I must say that you have raised a good issue on which Cypras must take a stand and unfortunately Cypras does not approve of the act of slavery. We believe in the freedom of all men and that all are born free and equal and that certain rights are God given to people and slavery goes against that. We therefore ask that you do not bring slaves into Cypras but you have seen a loophole in that within the embassy walls Cypriot legislation does not extend so as long as they remain within the embassy we can see no reason how we can stop you but we ask in the name of freindship not to bring slaves.

Public Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cypras

Subject: The Cypras Split

Today saw a violent and barbaric act carried out by the Turks in the north. Four motor shells were fired from the North over the Green Line and into the South killing at least 4 people. I can respond now and state that retalatory attacks were carried out by te Cypriot National Guard and that the army has been mobilised and is currently on high alert in preparation of an invasion by the Turkish aggressors in the north.

The North has been occupied by foreign forces for over 30 years and in that time they have failed to even try and discuss reunion. The government of Northern Cypras is a flase state and one that should remain unrecognised in the eyes of the world. They promote ethnic differences despite our political system fully accepting and respecting the rights of Turkish Cypriots.

I therefore ask all nations of the world, in the interest of peace and good friendship, to condemn the attacks and to support Cypras in its claim of having soveriegnty over the North. I ask that you do not recognise the North as doing so will only further problems and you will be spitting in the face of the Cypriot government which has a god given right to rule over the lands of the North.

We ask that pressure be applied to Turkey to withdraw its troops and its support for the North as well as opening up the Green Line to allow intergration and free passage to all of Cypras. Further action by the North will result in action by the Republic.
