The 2012 Zanannian Parliament elections are upon us! This poll is open to anyone who wishes to partake in this election. Please, I ask you to do the honorable thing and not stack elections. When you vote, I would appreciate it if you would state who you vote for/support. Thank you. Here are the parties running for office:
1. The current ruling party is the National Conservative Party, or NCP for short. They have been the majority party for over 25 years now, as their strong nationalistic tendencies have made Zanannia a regional powerhouse, and most problems are blamed on the World Assembly. Despite being very right of center economically, they manage to appease the people by being social moderates. In the 2010 national elections, Anne-Thérèse Challoner, the chairman of the NCP from 2001-2005, and a member of Parliament for several years, was elected Prime Minister. She is the first female to ever serve as PM. She is considered the head of the party. The NCP currently holds 70 of Parliament's 135 seats.
2. The leading opposition party is the Progressive Party of Zanannia, or PP for short. Despite not holding power in Parliament since their landslide defeat in the 1990 elections, they've made progress, and from 2005-2010 Augustin Thibaud served as Prime Minister. Thibaud, who is the current head chairman of the PP and by far the most influential member of the party, ran as a moderate Progressive in the 2005 campaign, and had a fairly successful tenure as PM. The PP is more left-wing than the NCP, but on an international scale is only slightly left of center. The PP currently holds 59 of Parliament's 135 seats.
3. The dark horse party is the recently formed National Socialist Party of Zanannia, or NSPZ for short. They broke off from the NCP due to their radical far right-wing ideology. The NCP is informally known as the Zanannian Nazi Party. Founded in 2001, they were not taken seriously nationally until the 2010 elections, when they won 15 seats in Parliament. The head of the NSPZ is Lionel Paquet.
4. Zanannia has a "joke" party: The Meat Comes First Party is a party that vouches for a compulsory meat-only dietary lifestyle. It also demands total suffrage for guinea pigs and miniature ponies and the legalization of prostitution. The party made national headlines the day after the 2010 election day, when Cécile Clavet, the leader of the MCFP, actually won a seat in Parliament.
