New Criminal Punishments

Postby Kalasparata » Wed Nov 24, 2010 5:03 am

What new criminal punishments is your nation trying to introduce against your criminals?
We have had a brainwave which we turned into an idea. If legislation passes, we will tie crims to the road and pay moterists to drive over them!

Torture or extra brutal executions are stupid and never reduce crime. Reasonable punishments are in the form of a (temporary) reduction of a persons rights. Obviously taking away the freedom of movement is basically your average prison sentence, but there are other thinks that may or may not be appropriate, depending on the crime.

One of the latest punishments in that direction here, is the complete disarming of a person, the taking away of all weapon rights. Now, the usual way was, that a criminal got his military status reduced and certain limits to weapons came with this (a private of the reserve is not allowed to have full automatic armor-penetrating weapons), but a baseline of deadly weapons is universally available.
Taking the rights to bear these weapons away, too, is a serious punishment and makes people feel defenseless the whole day, however, this form of punishment is under heavy attack, since the police clearly does not have enough manpower to make sure, the criminal does not simply buy a new uncontrolled weapon (and enforcing control of even the common weapons would be real bad, economically, too).

There's an idea being kicked around in Congress, tentatively titled "Monetary Restitution in Lieu of Other Sanctions Act of 2010." It would allow for a victim of non property crimes to receive monetary compensation he or she agrees to, from the criminal, within certain guidelines. Both the criminal and victim must agree to the monetary compensation. In cases of murder, the victim's executor of will or heir will decide.

We would like to praise the Kalasparatan government's bold attempt to reduce crime! We shall be looking up to the nation as having model punishments that ALL states should follow!

To be honest, we have one independent MP that's suggesting that criminals play the Scary Maze game, be exposed to the Screen Gems "S from Hell" or the Viacom "V of Doom", and the Bushtucker Trials. However the Wachi government has said it would be silly to implement.

I hate seeing it, but ^This.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)

Our current punishments work fine however after a long debate, cabinet has just passed a bill which allowing one of leading technology company to test their new nanobots on prisoners in Arabia Camp. The nanobot claims to be able to change the way people think and also treat Psychosis. It was been tested on rabbits and the results were successful.
However most of ministers agree that it is only temporary and is more for technological and Health advantage than just for shake of punishment.

Apart from that we dont have any plans fro new punishments.
