OoC: This is the factbook for a Past Tech RP I'm no longer involved in.

Name: The Zamynian Sultanate
Population: 1 million
Race: Middle-Eastern
Religion: Ancestor Worship
Language: The people of Zamynia speak a mongrelized version of the language of their old Itharan conquerers.
Natural Resources: Salt, iron ingots, coal, etc.
Imports: Lumber, precious stones, slaves, etc.

Territory:

Not coming.

History:
According to local folklore, the arid valleys and dusty mountains the Zamynian Sultanate straddles was once part of an empire all its own.
The Itharan Empire, while in its infancy, tore its mighty cities to the ground however, and smashed the armies of Old Zamynia. Several outlying colonies survived this destruction though, and were conquered in turn by the Itharans. Luckily, the world turns, and what was may come again. With the fall of their Itharan overlords, the people of the Zamynian Sultanate are as fierce and independent as anyone.

Military:

Desert Archers
Image
Armed with a bow and knife, these troops are made up of lower class city dwellers called up to defend their homes in time of need. They are mostly used as garrison troops, and rarely pressed into service in the field. Although given some training with the bow, they cannot be classed as either effective or enthusiastic soldiers. [Classification: Archers.]

Hûlegu Spearmen
Image
The Hûlegu are fierce and independent camel-herding nomads from the southern steppes. They tend to wear a distinctive blue or indigo veil that covers most of their face, and are frequently levvied into service as spearmen by the Zamynian Sultanate. Although brave and resilient, they are lightly armed with only short spears, and won't hold up in a prolonged melee. [Classification: Spearmen, no shields.]

Zamynian Infantry
Image
Hailed as the lockstep legions of Old Zamynia come again, these men are bought as slaves from the hardy Hûlegu steppe peoples. They are then trained from boyhood in the ways of the warrior, and, when their training is finished, promptly enrolled in the army. Their equipment consists of 5m long pikes against cavalry attacks and with maces and shields for close combat. [Classification: Pikemen.]

Akinjis
Image
Akinjis, a word which means 'raiders' in Old Itharan, are mounted bowmen serving the Zamynian Sultan. They are lightly armoured for speed and mobility, and are armed with a bow. Able to adopt a shooting circle formation which provides constant fire against the enemy, they are useful for harassing flanks and enemy archers but will quickly dissolve in melee combat. [Classification: Cavalry archers.]

Court Cavalry
Image
Court cavalry are, as their name indicates, household cavalry regiments loyal to the Sultan. Formed from the sons of lesser nobles trained from a young age, the young men must pass strict entry examinations before joning. They are equipped with lances and maces, with both man and horse being armoured. Court cavalry are a match for any other cavalry in hand to hand combat. [Classification: Heavy cavalry.]
