2a. General Information for Democratic Republic of Matternic States
A Republic of 32 states, most of whom are located on the continent of Matterna (also known as Matterna Major), with a few outlying states on Goius Island, and Matterna Minor. The Largest state (w/o Satrua) land wise is Deisa, but the most populated state (w/o Satrua) is Foyo.

The Democratic Republic's economy is very random, with states like Deisa and Ditic producing mostly agriculture. While states such as Foyo and Golu completely industrial. Satrua, a semi-autonomous state, is the largest and most populated state. Until recently, however, Satrua was not part of the Federation. After a series of on and off wars lasting for 135 years, Satrua signed a treaty with the Federation, giving up large portions of conquered lands, as well as some independence. Whether or not the Matternic States should have continued the war until Satrua was broken is a hotly debated subject within the original 25 states.

3. History of the Republic

The alliance which would evolve into the Republic, was between the Kingdom of Wios, and the Confederation of Golu. This alliance at first was disregarded, both sides were at war with each other again within 100 years. However in 542, the Confederation of Golu was losing a war to the Empire of Wassa. Golu, desperate for support, asked Wios for military support, pointing to the 'alliance' between the two. Wios, for unknown reasons, decided to honor that alliance and within 10 years Wassa was defeated. From then on the Wios-Golu alliance only grew stronger.

In 762 the Kingdom of Jur asked for admission into the alliance between Wios and Golu, followed shortly by Foyo, Desia, and Ditic. By 1003, the Wios-Golu alliance had become' The Union '

The Union now had 6 members, with Wios and Foyo being the most powerful but both had conflicting agendas. Wios wanted The Union to become a single state, with a royal family. Foyo wanted The Union to acknowledge only one legitimate government, which would represent all the members of The Union and the people who lived in them, not just one family. Wios and Foyo regularly clashed about this issue until 1287, when a assassin (of Wios nationaility) killed the Minister of Foyo. Outraged, Foyo sent a assassin to kill the King of Wios. When this attempt failed, Wios and Foyo declared war upon each other, with other states in The Union choosing sides. After 15 years of warfare, Foyo emerged the victor. The Royal family of Wios was executed and Wios was renamed Yotia. Foyo, however had lost a large amount of people. With the end of the war, so did The Union. In its place A new order was established, The Confederacy of Matterna.

In 1321 the United Kingdoms of Soai and Hioya declared war upon The Confederacy. For 20 years it was a stalemate as the United Kingdoms slowly eroded against the Confederacy. It is notable as the first time gunpowder was used in a war on Matterna. In 1345, the United Kingdoms sued for peace and admission into the Confederacy. However, in order to do so the Kingdoms of Soai and Hioya united fully, and became Soioya. In 1365 the Confederacy suffered a major blow, as the Blood Plague (named after the blood color the skin took when you were infected) hit. Until 1371 the plague came and went with the seasons, until a united effort by the Confederacy improved public hygine. Seeing how much damage was caused by the plague, and how when they all worked together they stopped it. The Confederacy was abolished, a Declaration of Intents and Structure was written up by the 7 members and signed. With it,both the Council and the Federation were born

For the next four hundred years the Federation continued to grow members at a steady pace, by 1642 15 members were in the Federation, with 3 more in application. Now it became harder for converstion rates to be known, soon scam artists went from town to town buying goods for half the price because townsfolk didn't know how much of a certain currency equaled another.

In 1643 the Council passed the Currency Standardization Act. The currency which came from this became known as simply the Federal Standard. The act made it illegal to buy or sell goods with any of the former currencies, and also outlawed members from creating their own Standards. In response a new state was made which was to be the only place authorized to mint Standards, this state and city were named Douglai. By 1792 all government activities took place in Douglai.

In 1682 the Federation first met Satrua. However it wasn't until 1800 that the first of the wars began between the two. For the next 135 years both sides fought each other. The last of these conflicts, The Seventh Goius War, began in 1912 when, in a surprise assault, the Federation landed 500,000 troops on the beaches of Soisoia, a stronghold of Satrua, and took it with ease. In response to this Satrua invaded Gouyaii, almost capturing Fouic, however they failed due to a communications error. By the time the Satruian's had been pushed back across the lake, they were spent. 90% of Goius Island was now under Federal juristiction, with the last 10% falling fast. Satrua sued for peace and The Unity Wars were over.

[spoiler=1935-] Following the Unity Wars a time of peace and prosperity engufled the Matternic States. In 2010, the Federal Republic was offically changed to the Democratic Republic.
