1. History

Beginnings

The Principality of Daliusia came into being in 1576, when Duke George of Mithras united the various Duchies and Counties of the area following the Great War of Daliusia. He proclaimed himself George I, first Prince of a United Principality and all princes since have been descended from him. In the first hundred years of the nation’s existence there was a great struggle for power between the princes and their unhappy vassal lords, however following the first Civil War, Prince Jullian II was able to take full, undisputed power of the Principality and into what is now known as ‘The Golden Age of Daliusia’

The Golden Age

One of the first things Jullian II did following the war in 1689 was to officially sever ties with Rome and to create an independent Church of Daliusia which would follow the ideas of Martin Luther. This may seem to have been a foolish, isolating move, bringing the wrath of many of the Principality’s Catholic neighbours, however it was overall a good thing for the nation as Daliusia was able to build itself a small but rich empire, which peaked under Nicholas VIII ‘The Empire Builder’, in the mid 1700s only one of his possessions, the Patram Isles, are in Daliusian hands today. Culture, particularly literature flourished also during this period, but died out by the early 1800s, along with the loss of the empire under the rule of the inept Prince James I ‘The Useless’ and his equally unsuccessful son James II, in the final days of his reign there was a revolution of politics as the people demanded democracy, a right to vote for their parliament and their Chancellor, James finally gave in on his death bed in 1815.

Democracy and Martial Law

The first elected Chancellor of Daliusia was Chancellor Mikeel Yave, who helped pave the way for all the powers of the monarchy to be transferred to the Chancellor, making him Head of Government and the Prince a mere figurehead. By the first decade of the 1900s the Principality had caught up with the rest of the world once again, though still a shadow of its former self, with industry being important around the nation. The nation went through a succession of Chancellors, in what is known as ‘The Quiet Times’ which lasted until the early 2000s. In 2006, General William Garin announced the implication of martial law in Daliusia following some large riots in the north that was feared may be the beginnings of a revolution, making him, in effect a dictator, however in 2008 he was convinced to end Martial law and William Harlos was elected Chancellor.

2. Geography

Climate, Terrain and Natural Resources

Throughout Daliusia there is a moderate climate. There is a fair amount of rain, especially in the north. The land is mostly flat, with the exception of a mountain range in the east, the Set Mountains, where Mount St. Louis Mount, the highest peak, is situated. The nation’s main natural resources are lead and iron which are in abundance throughout the nation, but particularly the centre. The Province of Bassou contains a lot of Sandstone, the nation’s main building material.

The whole east side of Daliusia is coast. However on its north and west borders the it has the Republic of Genalia and the South the Kingdom of Hiebeland and the Federal Republic of Goballand. In the Eastern Sea the group of islands, the Patram Isles, is a Crown Dependency.

3. Political System

Central Government

Daliusia is a Constitutional Monarchy. The Prince (Currently Jullian VI) is the head of state, but has no powers whatsoever; he is merely a figurehead who represents the nation internationally. The Head of Government is the Chancellor, who is chosen out of five candidates every four years, chosen by the Party who has the most seats in Daliusia’s Lower House of Parliament: The Chamber of Masters, he can hold the office only three times, he leads and appoints the Cabinet of Ministers. The Chamber of Masters is elected by all those over sixteen via proportional representation every four years. The current leading Party in the Chamber is the Social Democrats. There is also an upper chamber, who assess the Chamber of Masters and have to approve all acts passed by that chamber called the Chamber of High Chancery, members of this chamber are chosen by the government and must have an equal amount of representatives from every major party.

Local Government

Every two years there is a Council Government, there are Councils for each county (see below) the council then elects a Mayor, who is figurehead of the council. He or she then gets a vote every four years to decide the Lord Provincial, who oversees all of the Provinces (a group of counties) local policies with the help of the Provincial Assembly, elected via proportional representation by all those in the province over the age of sixteen The Provincices and Counties are Divided like so:
