It doesn't really worry me, realistically speaking, though it would at least get on my bad side of practicality, but nonetheless, Approved.

Dominant Ideology: Regulated Capitalism, Environmentalism, Moderate Socialism GDP (PPP) and Nominal: Unknown *Brief History of Nation:* Animaria was formed when explorers discovered an ancient empire (think the Spanish encountering the Maya). The explorers lived among the natives, and discovered that their way of life led to an overall happier existence than their homelands offered. Overtime, these explorers and natives intermarried, shared their languages, religion, technologies and philosophies. By the time other explorers had found the civilization, they had become powerful enough to fight them back. *Brief Overview of Culture of Nation:* The Free Land of the Animaria puts emphasis on preserving nature and its creatures. Almost all parts of the culture reflect this. They emphasize small-scale farming, as well as using every bit of an animal when it is hunted. Applications to Taranos Brief Overview of Nation Full Nation Name: The Democratic People's Republic of the Platte River (will create upon approval) Short Nation Name: The Platte Republic Population: 1 875 000 Military Size: 9 000 Government Type: Presidential Dominant-Party CommunistFederation Dominant Ideology: The Communist Party is the sole legal and dominant party, though independent candidates are permitted to compete in elections for the Supreme Soviet. The Party, however, is not above rigging elections to maintain its supremacy. GDP [strike(PPP) and[/strike] Nominal: $7 000 000 000 ($3 734 per capita) *Brief History of Nation:* In the beginning, there was nothing. Then, around 20 000 BC, the first hunter-gatherers in the region emerged. These peoples, forming what would be later known as "Platte Natives" or simply "the Natives," kept to their nomadic lifestyle, hunting the big game of the open prairie and fishing in the eponymous river and the ocean it flowed into. The first foreign interactions did not come until 1872, when a group of perhaps 100 foreign explorers from the western regions arrived. With them, they brought disease and tragedy. Originally, it was estimated as many as 600 000 natives lived in an area of about 78 000 square miles. By 1900, this had fallen to under 50 000 due to disease, war, and famine brought on by foreign colonization and settlement. While some native groups did fight back, the superior weaponry of the colonizers defeated them time and again. By 1930, all natives had been forced onto reservations or eliminated. Meanwhile, developments in the 'developed' part of the country began to take place. Exploitation of farmers led to great richness, but also great poverty, and resentment began growing between the rich and powerful upper class and the weaker lower classes. A new 'democratic' political system that favored landowners over tenants didn't help. The last straw came in 1931, when an economic slump caused the grain market to crash, and eliminated the bank accounts of many a poor farmer. Hard-up, foreclosures on their properties and the flight of the wealthy led to further disasters. Finally, in 1936, at the peak of the crisis, the Communist Party began rallying support for its radical ideas, despite repression, and the fire of revolution quickly spread. In 1937, a coup d'etat by the Party in the capital of Lancaster installed them as the new government, under General Secretary James Thomas. The coup, however, seemed to make things worse. No nation would trade with the Platte Republic, the Red Guard was unable to keep order among the various now-armed political factions, and the country devolved into civil war. Secretary Thomas, however, played his cards well, and, with the support of native groups and the draft-eligible populations of Lancaster and Douglas (which made up half the country's population), was able to suppress all dissent, and the last opposition insurgents surrendered in 1943. Secretary Thomas then reneged on his promises of more land and recognition for the Natives, and ordered his substantially-larger Red Army to corral them into even smaller reservations. The Natives, however, were unwilling to give up so easily, and resorted to guerrilla warfare in the western Badlands and raids on frontier farming towns. Despite allocating much of his resources to this problem, the Party was unable to put down the rebellion, and, exasperated, the government agreed to (and provided) expanded reservations and designated seats in the Supreme Soviet for native tribes in 1955, the same year that Secretary Thomas died. With its period of turmoil behind it, the single-party state, lead by new Secretary Wilfred, opted to expand agricultural output under the "New Economic Plan" (NEP). Under this system, the transportation, finance, energy, and mining sectors were fully nationalized by the government, while smaller businesses and farms were given leeway and allowed to sell their goods in a free market. The result was economic expansion and growth. However, this growth was not indefinite, and, by the 1970s, the Party was struggling to prop up the economy and maintain a 0% unemployment rate. In addition, growing dissent against the totalitarian regime emerged. Originally, under Wilfred, the Party refused to budge, and continued its involvement. However, in 1982, Wilfred died, and a revolution leader, Secretary George Fisher, assumed the reigns. Fisher was revolutionary in no way seen before. In 1983, he announced a new plan for industrialization, which largely consisted of funneling the unemployed into factory jobs, instituted new regulations and requirements to increase the competition and incentives of state-owned companies, and, perhaps most importantly, ended the Party's 50-year monopoly on power in 1988, allowing independent candidates to contest elections for both local and the Supreme Soviet. With this new invigoration, the country's development sped up. However, new problems were to occur. To provide for a growing population, hundreds of acres of Native land were seized by the government, to be turned into farmland. Infuriated, the native tribes banded together and declared war on the Platte Republic. This guerilla was has been going on since 1995. Otherwise, the country has remained stable. Fisher's son, Nathaniel, assumed the position of Secretary General in 2000, upon his father's death. *Brief Overview of Culture of Nation:* The country is mostly farmers, a polite and generous bunch, who are hospitable always and kind most of the time. Despite the suffering and authoritarian government, most consider themselves lucky for life as it is, with the events in Lancaster and the cities going on the in background, largely ignored.

I'm going to pass this off to Meriad for approval, and abstain from reviewing this app for now, but I need to see where Meriad stands on this.

Applications to Taranos Brief Overview of Nation Full Nation Name: The Grand Duchy of Vaikujar Short Nation Name: Vaikujar Population: 33,405,000 Military Size: 1,002,150 (conscription is my justification for an army that's 3% of my population) Government Type: Semi-Constitutional Monarchy with some Feudalist aspects. Dominant Ideology: Monarchism. GDP (PPP) and Nominal: $22,765 / $760,464,825,000 *Brief History of Nation:* It all starts with House Inioth founding the Duchy of Inioth (their imagination got better over the years) in 778 AD. Then they conquered some stuff and renamed the Duchy of Vaikujar in 934 AD. Then House Inioth took over even more shit and established the Grand Duchy of Vaikujar in 1365 AD, future conquests waxed and weaned over the ages with little difference in Vaikujar's territory. The nation has been through a paradox of modernizing reforms and at the same time maintains many archaic institutions. Such as Grand Duke Ivan II who led the religious reformation of Vaikujar's Pagan faiths in the mid-1600s, resulting in it's current Orthodox Christian themes. Or, Grand Duke Constance "The Liberator," who passed many reforms to industrialize and modernize Vaikujar in the early-1800s. One of these reforms abolished serfdom in Vaikujar, but the trade-off was the legalization of slavery and the purchase of many foreign slaves to maintain the finances and holdings of serf-dependant noble Houses in Vaikujar's Eastern Plains. There's also been the odd 'domestic dispute' (violent conflict between the four remaining Great Noble Houses of Vaikujar) sprinkled here and there in Vaikujar's history that the Ruling House (Inioth) has had to resolve every damn time (usually through force of arms). The region of Vaikujar used to be made of varied ethnic groups, but centuries under the Grand Duchy and efforts of some Grand Dukes and nobility in parts of Vaikujun history has melded the peoples under one (mostly) homogeneous culture. In short, a Feudal nation-state that has managed to modernize yet preserve archaic traits here and there over its existence. *Brief Overview of Culture of Nation:* Divided and united. Vaikujar is divided between the commoners and the nobility, it is divided between the industrialized west and the rural east and it is divided between the regional governments of the Great Noble Houses. Yet, it is united under the faith of the Penielian Pantheon and united before the ruling House of Inioth which has managed to maintain its existence and domain for ages. Conflict between the nobles and commoners, the Old Money and New Money, the Great Houses themselves and the peoples of the west against the east? That is to be expected. Conflict against the Grand Duke and his family or against the Priesthood of the Vaikujun Gods? Almost unthinkable. A great importance is put upon three virtues in Vaikujar, which are, unsurprisingly, found in the Grand Duchy's motto. Family is revered above all, every commoner and noble is expected to support their family and their family expected to support them. Faith in the Gods is a given, the divines shaped the universe and one would be foolish to oppose their will. Loyalty, to the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchy which has protected and guided the people of Vaikujar for centuries before and, hopefully, for centuries to come. OOC Information Do you have any moderation history? Nope. If so, how long ago, and how severe? N/A Do you have a wiki page/factbook for your nation? Yes, it's not much, but it exists. Link if so: http://www.nationstates.net/nation=vaik ... ok/id=main (To be heavily edited, eventually. More like this). If not, would you like one? Already have one and will likely make more. *Do you have an OOC nation(s) your sympathies lie with?* Canada, I apologise in advance, it is the country I was born in. Roleplaying Information How much have you RPed? do alts count? Because in that case, since 2013 (well, 2012, but it was late December, so it was practically since 2013). Although, in that amount of time I'll admit I have posted relatively little in actual RPs and I have yet to properly finish a single one. As such, despite my time spent here and (I like to think) decent quality of posts, I can understand if I am rejected due to a lack of experience.
