The style for the Emperor, as one can tell, is "His Imperial Majesty, may he live forever." Some of these titles are ceremonial due to his House, family, and the location of the Imperial Dominion. Some of the titles are due to areas of the Empire which he controls. Others are the occasionally honorary (it depends on the Emperor to take up duties regarding them) titles that place the Emperor at the highest positions across all parts of the Imperial government. Then the title of "the Once and Future Pumpkin King" changes depending on the season in the Imperial Seat and becomes "Pumpkin King of the Twilight Harvest" when the first pumpkins of autumn are harvested.

Informally he's called Emperor, Lord Longweather, Magus Supreme, Lord Chairman, High Mediator, Speaker, Supreme Justice, and Pumpkin King depending on the situation.

It is highly improper to refer to the Chancellor on a first-name basis when he or she is on official government duties <the style is intended as "Chancellor Cahill" if brevity is preferred, and the aforementioned proper styling otherwise>. "Madame Chancellor" < or "Sir Chancellor" in the case of male Chancellors > is acceptable.

Our current leader rules under the title Grand Chancellor. The title is usually following the term "His Excellency", which is what he would be called for official purposes. The title and term were both adopted from the previous Grand Chancellor, the fascist leader who was instrumental in the assassination of the royal family, and the installation of his own fascist government. Of course, this was all under the pretense that the Captain of the Royal Guards had been the assassination, a lie of course, but the only way the fascists could succeed in making themselves look like heroes in the eyes of the people.

Previous titles held by the Grand Chancellor include Captain of the Royal Guard (which he was promoted to upon the execution of his predecessor) and Head of the Dalcarian Intelligence Services. He also would have obtained the title of "Lord" over a portion of land his family held the noble titles for. However, his family was murdered by House Black troopers, and he was essentially erased from history in that area. Now that he is in charge of the country however, the title is unnecessary, so he's given it to another loyalist who will look after the lands in his stead.

One unofficial title Grand Chancellor James holds is "The Most Powerful Man in the World", because in practice, he essentially is. The parliament may be able to remove him from power (through a number of political moves), but as long as he is in power, he essentially holds the reigns of Dalcaria's economy, legislature, and even the military (not excluding the vast network of spies he has, as well as the Royal Guards who still serve a purpose as his body guard now).

Historical titles have existed in the Empire before as well (and before it) that I will cover. King and Queen represented the Clarion family, who ruled the nation for the past 1500 years, and also applied while they were in charge of only the province of Tavastia. The title also existed before Tavastia was united, and after it was, the royal family died off, and Tavastia descended into civil war, with the Clarions coming out very triumphantly.

Before this, there had been the Dominium of Dalcaria (which existed a very long time ago, and was more or less flattened in a great disaster). At the time, Dalcaria was ruled by a council of mages, consisting of a few hundred expert mages in all, who governed nearly all political aspects of Dalcaria (while giving limited autonomy to the regions), but occasionally a Lord Archmage could be elected by the other Archmages. This was primarily a title given in times of war, or to leaders that showed the most promise for leading the Dominum. The last record of someone holding this title was Lord Archmage Durel (for whom Durelieus has been named).

Before the Dominium had been an assortment of smaller nations, all waging war, but the earliest legends we have for a "ruler" of Dalcaria was King Dalcaria himself, often times called the "Wild King" as he did not preside over the continent of Dalcaria in any official way. He collected no taxes, passed no laws, and controlled no one. He did, however, protect the people and did uphold some basic laws and justice. The name Wild King was given to him by his people, and some outsiders as well. Names like "Dragon Slayer" or "Butcher of Dragons" also were applied to him, because legend says the planet had been invaded by dragons, and he killed nearly all of them.
