Party politics in Formicashig is sometimes a little bit complex as, until recently, it was not split along traditional left-right lines. Until the late 1990s, the two main political parties were the Republican Party and the National Party, both centre-right parties who would often govern in coalitions with other parties (such as the Republican-Labour government, and the National-Liberal government.) The split between the National Party and the Republican Party occurred in the 1930s over the issue of segregation, with the former in favour and the latter opposed - although since 1965 the National Party has repudiated its pro-segregationist stance and arguably become more socially liberal than the Republicans.

However Formic politics has recently begun to take a more left-right divide, following the partial merger between the Farmer Party and the Labour Party to form a unified left-wing party. Although often referred to as a unified party, due to sharing a common leader, the Farmer-Labour Party actually consists of two separate political parties.

Republican Party:
Ideology: Formic Republicanism, Populism, Social Conservatism
Political position: Centre to centre-right
Leader: The Rt. Hon. Barry Phillips MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 78/150

The Republican Party is currently the largest party in the House of Representatives and is led by Prime Minister Barry Phillips. The party was formed in 1936, following the schism of the National Republican Party over the issue of racial segregation, with the Republicans favouring equal citizenship for black people.

The party is usually seen as a catch-all populist party, with members and support coming from all sections of society and all social classes. The party has led both centre-left governments (in coalition with Labour) and centre-right governments (in coalition with the Liberals), and itself ranges from centre to centre-right in its own ideology. The party strongly supports direct democracy.

The current Republican government was elected in 2008, originally in coalition with the right-wing Liberal Party and indigenous rights based Sukuma-Ashig Party. In 2011 it was elected to a majority in its own right, and then re-elected with a majority in 2014.

Labour Party
Ideology: Social democracy, Progressivism
Political position: Centre-left
Leader: Matthew Chuka MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 38/150

The Labour Party is currently the largest opposition party, and since 1999 has been partially merged with the Farmer Party. As such it is seldom referred to separately from the Farmer Party, with most commentators using the term "Farmer-Labour Party" to refer to the coalition even though this is technically incorrect.

The party was formed in 1912, before independence, to represent the interests of working class people and trade unions. It has been part of several coalition governments throughout its history. Two Labour leaders have served as Prime Minister - Jeffrey Mathers who served from 1976-1978 during the Republican-Labour government following the death of Republican Prime Minister George Morrison and Mary McQuillan who served from 2002 - 2008 as leader of a Farmer-Labour-National coalition.

As a coalition, the Farmer-Labour Party surpassed the National Party for the first time in 1999 but ultimately did not enter government. The Labour Party surpassed the National Party in its own right for the first time in 2005.

National Party:
Ideology: Liberal-Conservatism, National Conservatism, Economic liberalism
Political position: Centre-right
Leader: The Hon. James MacGuire MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 20/150

The National Party are the traditional rival of the Republican Party, having formed from the National Republican Party schism with the party originally taking a pro-segregationist stance on the issue of race. Since 1965 the party has repudiated racism and has arguably become more socially liberal than the Republican Party.

The party is usually seen as being economically further right than the Republican Party, actively promoting free enterprise, business and market economics. However it has on occasion governed in coalition with the Labour Party and never with the Republican Party despite ostensibly sharing more similarities with it.

Support for the National Party has been in decline since 1996, mainly due to the rise of the Farmer-Labour Party. In 2002 it unexpectedly agreed to support the Farmer-Labour Party on confidence and supply, mainly due to its support for their immigration and trade policies but was for the first time ever a junior coalition partner. The Farmer-Labour-National government was seen as being more 'centrist' or 'third way' as a result of National's influence.

National last governed in its own right from 1990 until 1996, being elected to a majority in 1990 and then returning for a second term as part of a coalition with the Liberal Party.

Farmer Party:
Ideology: Agrarianism, Social democracy
Political position: Centre-left
Leader: Matthew Chuka MP (as leader of the Farmer-Labour Party)
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 9/150

The Farmer Party was founded in 1913, prior to independence, as a party to represent rural interests. Although originally the party opposed economic intervention and the policies of the Labour Party, the party later evolved to support policies such as subsidies for farmers, tariffs and price controls.

The party was also originally socially conservative, but has become closer with the Labour Party since the mid 20th century as a result of an increasingly similar economic philosophy. In 1999 the two parties finally merged, although the Farmer Party officially attains a separate identity and runs in rural constituencies as the Farmer Party, rather than as the Farmer-Labour Party.

The party had actually served in coalition with both the Republicans and the National Party prior to merging with the Labour Party, and most recently governed in the Farmer-Labour-National government of 2002-2008.

Liberal Party:
Ideology: Classical liberalism, Laissez Faire, Libertarianism
Political position: Right-wing
Leader: The Hon. Maria Baker MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 2/150

The Liberal Party is a right-wing political party which promotes free market economics and limited government intervention. Throughout its history it has occasionally trumped Labour as the third party of Formic politics, although it gained only three seats in the 2014 election.

The party was actually formed in 1897, long before independence and could arguably be considered Formicashig's oldest surviving political party (not including the National Republican Party, which split in 1936). Prior to independence the Liberals opposed violent resistance and briefly served as the main opposition party to the National Republicans immediately after independence.

Sukuma-Ashig:
Ideology: Indigenous Rights, Progressivism
Political position: Centre
Leader: The Hon. Jelani Chinedu MP, Lerato Afolayan MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 2/150

Sukuma-Ashig (which translates as "Arise, Ashig", with 'Ashig' being the native name for Formicashig) is an indigenous rights party founded in 1959 to oppose segregation and support the interests of Formicashig's native black population.

Much of the party's platform centres around addressing the grievances of the native population and reducing economic and social inequality between blacks and whites. The party has two co-leaders - one male, one female, currently Jelani Chinedu (who served as Minister of Native Affairs) and Lerato Afolayan. Currently the party has no MPs other than its two leaders.

The party was in coalition with the Republicans from 2008 - 2011, and continues to support the present government on confidence and supply.

Green Party:
Ideology: Green politics, environmentalism
Political position: Left-wing
Leader: Tessa Johnson MP
Number of seats in the House of Representatives: 1/150

The Green Party is the newest political party in Formicashig, formed in 1990, and has one MP. Its main policies include environmentalism and pacifism.

The party was in confidence and supply with the Farmer-Labour Party from 2002 until 2005, but was never on the Executive Council and as such never in government.

The Middle Party: The Middle Party is the only legal party in Aldinainia. They have coexisted and worked with the Aldinainian Free Army (Aldinainian National Army before 2004) and has held power for over five decades. They formed as a response to the failed post WWII republican government that failed to bring the nation out of debt and to repair the damage the Japanese occupation government left behind. They formed as a revolutionary movement against the right and left wing political groups that enriched themselves in the national savings. On May 17th, the group initiated a "Revolution"(a term used to victimize and blame left wing and right wing political groups to keep them out of the political process) that was backed by the military and abolished the government and the legislature for over five decades and enacted General Gavostanis Sodor as Despot of Aldinainia. The party was divided during the Third Aldinainian Civil War since there were reformists seeking to end the war while conservatives sought to hold their power for profit. After the war, the "old warriors" we're all sentenced to death for corruption, acceptance of bribes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. The party was reformed after the trials of all the officials in the war and has been continuing to hold power ever since. All other political parties are not allowed in the political system, however, it is currently being discussed on whether the Council and the revived Aldinainian People's Assembly would allow other parties to hold seats.

There's only one big party in Arioslavia - the Communist Party of Arioslavia. It's a ruling Party since 1994 (earlier it was part of less-democratic Communist Party of the Socialist Union, when Arioslavia was a dominant nation in the SU). The Party in 90s allowed limited economic and serious political reforms, allowing opposition to act legally.

There are minor parties: United Agrarian Socialist Party and Arioslavian Social Democratic Party (both created in 1995 as an offspring parties from the CPA, they usually support the CPA), Just Arioslavia (quite new liberal-leftist party, created in 2010, stands for economic reforms), Liberal Party of Arioslavia, National Communist Party, Democratic Bloc of Reforms. Their support as a whole is 15-25%.

Illegal parties: far right, religious-based (Islamists, Orthodox Traditionalists), separatists, monarchists, fascists, racists.
Based on Russia - 240 million people - Superpower (do not anger, we have nukes and 5 million army!) - Post-communist, socially liberal gov
Pro: Pragmatic Socialism, Social Liberalism, Leftist Nationalism, Secularism, Women rights, Progressivism, Russia (not always, but sorry - Crimea is Russian), Kemalist Turkey (Glory to Ataturk!), Israel (it's always better than another Islamist dictatorship!)
Neutral: USA, UK (I'm hardline republican but not in the UK case - keep the Monarchy!), EU, China
Anti: Christian Conservatism, Islamism, Erdogan, Clericalism, Saudi Arabia, Current Polish Gov
Male - 22 - straight - Polish - disabled - Russophile - body-positive fat admirer

The Social Democrat Party More left-wing than the Left Libertarian party, generally disagree on economic issues

The Left Liberatrian Party The primary party, generally aligns with left-wing doctrines but is more wary of things such as income redistribution and gun control

The National Labor Party A Neo-Nazi party that combines nationalist elements of fascism with left-wing economics and LGBT rights

The Social Justice Party Focus mostly on social issues, including human rights, LGBT, anti-racism, animals rights, feminism, meninism and the like

The Meninist Party The newest major party, created only in 2006. Their principle focus is men's rights and father's rights but also support anti-racism, anti-homophobia and animal rights. In a country that's 57.9% male, they have garnered a few seat in the Parliamentary Diet.

The Rightist Coalition A declining center right party that generally aligns with the American Republican party or British Tories, the RC was borne out of the declining Conservative Party and a few other religious, right-wing splinter parties, consolidated in 2008. For the past fifty years, NSAL has been bleeding conservative and religious types into our neighbor, The Imperial Kingdom of South Iberia

Royalist Party Formed in 1860 as an opposition to the farmers party, they now clash with the Pirate Party
Patriotic Party

Constitutional Party
founded in 2000 by people thinking that the nation had fallen away from constitutional ideas and haven't won a single election, but their support has grown and in the 2015 election, 3 out of every 30 voters picked constitutional, this is up from 1 in every 90 voters the last election in 2011.

Cathalic Party
funded in 2009 to try and bring back the religious monarchy of King Morzo
Christian Party
mainly a peaceful organization, with the exception of the CLM (Christian Liberation Movement)and the GUF ( God's United Front) who actively bomb muslim meeting and harass the mormons and catholics who don't agree with their message, this has brought them down in the polls because of this stereotype that "all Christians are terrorists"
Revolutionary Party
founded in 2013, they have not won a single election and their numbers are around 23,000- 25,000 strong. they are trying to win a local election and to get several Revolutionary party friendly mayors in office, though...
Catholic Party
again, Mainly a peaceful organization, but with several Exceptions including the HCWA ( Holy Catholic Worker's Army) and GUCF ( God's United Catholic Front) they have won onlya haundful of local elections and the last times they sent a delegate to congress was in 2009 and 2011.

There are three political parties in our nation, the Catholic Party, the Conservative Party, and the Democratic Party. All three parties are right-wing parties dedicated to social conservatism and free-market principles.

The Catholic Party is the only party permitted to rule and the ruler of our nation, as well as the entirety of the unelected House of Priests, are all required to be members of said party.

The Democratic Party and Conservative Party may have seats in the House of the Commoners (along with the Catholic Party), where the seats are elected.

Currently the Ministry of Ktathrya is majority-controlled by the Sovereign Independence Party, which polled 41.0% of the popular vote in the 1879 election, winning 135 seats out of 200.

In opposition is the League of Workers and Peasants, which polled 27.3% and won 53 seats.

The third party is the House of the Gentry, having polled 17.1% to win 9 seats.

The Greenshield Guild of Democrats polled 12.8% and won 3 seats.

Also standing at the election but failing to win seats were the Communist Union (1.6%) and the One Nation Freedom Party (0.1%).

The three other national political parties, not standing at that election, are the Earth Alliance, the People's Chamber of Catholicism and Druidism and the Republican Movement.

There are minor single-issue and local campaign groups registered as political parties as well, but the above are considered to be the 'main' ones.
