Political Parties
Leaders: Sarah Carmel
Background: Former Minister of Justice, Sarah Carmel has until recently also served as Ambassador to the Republic of Adiron. She is 39 years old, is married to Dr. Stephen Carmel, former conductor of the Fineberg Philharmonic Orchestra and currently a private composer, focusing mostly on soundtracks. They have two children, a son Gareth and a daughter Rayanne.
Sarah Carmel is known to be tough and blunt in spite of being a short woman. She is descended from a famous President of the Council, and renounced her titles to join the Free Congress. She is a fanatical Edenist. Sarah Carmel is a good friend to former Presidents Finnhald and Touchstone.)
General Policies: Sarah Carmel emphasized the need for the Edomite nation to do things the Edomite way. She laid out a different recovery plan for troubled areas like Peregrino and northern Bara, and an over-all program of incremental upgrades to the nation's water supply and hydroelectric power generators. There would be a rational forest management plan and upgrades to schools and public buildings. There would be educational reform and a huge push for health and drug-awareness education. There would be some road improvements, but no major construction of new roads, because she vowed to outlaw private cars and emphasize purchasing or building more trains for inter-city travel and freight. She argued passionately to keep New Edom's justice system intact and rejected the idea of building prisons or having entirely non-ecclesiastic judges.
In matters of defense, Sarah Carmel proposed scaling back the massive build ups of the Touchstone and Pahath-Moab governments. Overseas commitments would have a time limit on them, protectorates and arrangements such as with Callaban or the CPO being exceptions. Damoclea and Delvian States would have a limit on military involvement though alliances would be maintained.
She proposed recognition of Gloria Regis' independence following negotiation, not national elections, and that they could obtain their navy by purchase, the mutineers granted 'Christian clemency'. "We are, i think, jointly disapproving of Monarchist bullying" she said with a grin.
While she approved of some economic changes to the country, she wanted to remove interest rates, avoid the prospect of cash crops, which she accused Count Lalery as discreetly encouraging through the deal he had made with the companies from Callaban, and yet promised to keep the Compulsory Nudity Act off the books--instead promoting the idea of healthy Christian nudism as a public awareness campaign.
In Foreign Policy, she proposed that she would support the Shrailleeni Empire in its terms for recognition of Unified Macureus, would pursue detente and ultimate peace with Deadora following a more concrete agreement about Dengali and Magna Lacuna.

Leader: Livius Glaber
Background: Livius Glaber was brought up in an Intellectual Party communal home in the 1970s, and went to a public school at the age of six, where he worked hard at school, studying politics and sociology obsessively. He graduated with many qualification and entered Uxbridgeley University in Beinai to study Psychology, Politics and Social Science.
After graduation, he worked at the University of Fineberg as a professor of political science, earning him the title of Doctor. In 1990, he returned to Gloria Regis to pursue his dream political career, largely focusing on infrastructure reform following the fall of the Corrupt New Day Party.
Policy: The party, as a whole seeks no interest in a monarch, nor a religious leader. All party members have great support for the President to be head of state as they feel it's more democratic and direct. It is an eco-socialism party which is softly republican. The policies are liberal to people but slightly harsher on big corporations. Generally there is support for entrance into the World Assembly, semi-national banking and carefully controlled investment. It does not support independence from Gloria Regis. General lifestyle views promote vegetarianism, naturism and green living.
The Intellectual Party supports universal emancipation and total gender equality, and has announced support for LGBT rights.
Representative democratic government (which is free and fair) must be established first and foremost for the equal participation of the people of New Edom.
Equality: that all peoples are deserving of the same treatment, and policies to ensure that treatment must be in place.
Federalism: The nation is of utmost importance and must be supported by its citizens. However, national government must be balanced by a three-tier system of provincial and then township control.
Secularism: That religion should be uninfluenced by the machinations of politics, which can only lead to their mutual corruption.
Education: Education should be generally free and should be aimed towards encouragement of developing careers and jobs.
The Monarchy: The Intellectual Party would prefer the Monarch to have a more symbolic role in government, and for religious freedoms to be stronger, for no church or denomination to dominate national spiritual life.
