Our main religion (Classic Egyptian Paganism (not the greek influenced)) survived the Muslim and Christian conquests, however unlikely it would seem in reality. Although the Pharaonic Royal Family would be more closely related to those of the Ptolmaic Dynasty, they see themselves as the direct descendants of the last great Pharoah Ramesses II. Egypt would fall to Arab and Byzantine conquests, but it would never follow the monotheistic religions.

It seems interesting and the name "New World" really caught me, because it was overly simplistic for a region to have. My nation is modeled after a union of the Balkan states, along with the Republic of Austria-Hungary joining it. The union was formed anywhere from 1940 - 1970, I haven't really decided yet and depending on the climate / history of the region, that might influence my choice.
