I used to like walkers and mechs.

Granted, there are situations where I still do but for the most part anything that's taller than wide, easy to topple over and difficult to right up are a crime. It means I can tolerate low-profile four+ legged walkers. Not three-legged because only Martians use tripods.

A mixture of all three, really.

Generic run-of-the-mill guns tend to be mass drivers, railguns and other kinetic weaponry; missiles and torpedoes are normally the more common heavy-hitters and longer-distance strike craft deterrence things. Directed energy weapons of all kinds are either piss-weak point defense guns or fuckhuge rape rays.

This is pretty much my approach in every Space 4X that has the holy Kinetic-Missile-Laser trinity, customizable ship designs and different types of shield/armor. Through my boundless paranoia of meeting an enemy that cockblocks me if I specialize in lasers I aim for mediocrity in all three so that I don't have to completely restructure everything the moment I plant my face into an obstacle.
