What did you base your nation on?

A minor country in the Cyperpunk MOO Sindome, which itself is based off of the western Canadian provinces (Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, Yukon) and the US states of Alaska, Oregon, and Washington.

I based mine on a bunch of Warsaw Pact nations. I took most of it from East Germany, and the flag has changed over time. First it was kind of like Yugoslavia's Flag, and then it became almost an exact recolored copy of East Germany's, and now it has Romania's coat of arms on it. Earlier on the nation itself more like Czechoslovakia, but now it is what it is. Even now, I take ideas from a lot of different communist nations.

The Empire comes from a book that I'm writing, it's culture, backstory, nobility etcetera etcetera are detailed greatly in my notes. ie: It's an original creation without influence from outside resources.

An empire of gold-blooded meta-humans who have dabbled in slavery, and who's biology features quite excessive sexual dimorphism which is reflected upon the society. Not the best of morals, but decent enough people.

The ideas of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, John Stuart Mill, and some influence from Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Other real-life inspirations include the US from 1850-1950, the post-revolution USSR, the Spanish Republicans, and the European Union.

Fictional inspirations include Rapture, the Vox, Andrew Ryan, and Columbia (Bioshock), City 17 (Half-Life), Big Brother and Oceana (1984), and innumerous others.

Braberbourg is based on the model of the many German States before the German Unification. However, the culture in Braberbourg is a mixture of French-Swiss-German, the laws and constitution are based on that of the Netherlands and it's government form is based on Liechtenstein's Direct Democracy constitutional monarchy before the Prince's powers were expanded in march 2003.

Of course, most choices made are based on my own evil pro-gay socialist European views, as Americans would call it.

Mine is based off of the Byzantine Empire. In short Elysia was established by groups of Byzantines who fled the Muslim invasion and established their own country on an island out on the Atlantic. Their culture is still largely Byzantine.
