Exploring what a non-Western nation would look like if it were 'modern' in the sense of technology at least somewhat familiar to us without having gotten there through a process of Westernization.

Basically asking 'what would a culture which developed to the "level" of the modern day via an alternate route that lacked Western influences look like".

It's not the first time I've done this project, but this one is likely to be a bit more reserved and with more attention spent towards actually making the underlying culture believable. Plus, this time, the conlang is going to be less ambitious and easier to work with. All those diacriticals last time... eurgh.

A colony of the Portuguese, British, Spanish, and Chinese Empires that gained independence and turned into a socialist state. Which is why there are many influences from those cultures, seen in many Chinese style temples, our capitals likeness to London, the language Carabanian is based off of Spanish, and our Portuguese cuisine.

[Greater Nevadian Empire]

I came up with this idea a couple years ago with some friends (not on NS, we just created our countries). They have probably all forgotten about this now, but I stumbled across NS a few months ago and decided to base my nation on the Great Socialist Nevadan Empire I had created back in 2013. Back then, it was socialist (obviously not that now) and it was centered around Nevada, the capital being Reno. Over time that name evolved into "Greater Nevadian Empire" and I completely forgot about those nations we created in 2013 until February 2, 2015. I remember that the Greater Nevadian Emperor (I hadn't named him yet back then) had some lavish palace of solid gold that took up about 100 acres and the original map had us claiming territory (I got most of North America, North Africa, and Asia, and all one of my friends got was Ukraine).

Think Nazi Germany in Wolfenstein: The New Order, only with less Aryanism, Scandinavian rather than continental Germanic, and with much more Dark Germanic Heathendom and associated esoterica and mysticism.
