When I initially went onto NS I did it because a friend had asked me to join; they had been playing as a Greater France. I wanted a nation that was reasonably far away, could have plenty of territory, and was different. At the time I was into Japan so I stole the name of one of their puppet states in Asia and based it on that. However, over time it has mutated rather heavily, the current idea of it is a sort of French-Asia themed nation with a tad bit of British theming in one section(mostly because they speak English, I might actually compare that area most closely to Quebec). I've tried to make it rather different though, and minimize parallels where possible.

Canada for the welfare state.

Also for NS purposes we are a combination of Imperial China and Feudal Japan in social structure, Government Working, Culture, and Architecture.

A concatenation of the Smooze (from the first My Little Pony movie, back in the 80's) and numerous science fiction concepts pertaining to nanorobotic "grey goo"; The Smooze is basically a description of the "magical" being in the context of modern (and future) science rather than fantastical "magic".

It helps that - due to the limitations of cinematography in the 1980's, or perhaps due to deliberate design - the original Smooze's violet color takes on a bit of a greyish appearance, mimicking that of the archetypal "grey goo"; their shared behavior of enveloping their prey in an amorphous mass made it simple to extend those similarities to actual consumption of their prey, breaking the "sentient lumps of organic matter" into their constituent carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms (among others) for recycling and eventual creation of more Smooze.

Well, first I decided that NationStates deserves a better class of slaver. I also decided that 'better class of slaver' should have tentacles and flying eyeballs. In other words, RIFTS's Splugorth. Except not exactly because I don't like having my tricks already known. So more distant cousin to the Splugorth.
There are also dark elves, cultists, demons, and fallen angels running about.
