Halloween in your nation?

Postby Davinhia » Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:13 am

Yes, halloween may not be in all nations, but why not ask this question? Many nations may or may not have halloween, but if you don't, do you have anything similar? Explain it, if it's similar.

In Davinhia, Halloween is the most celebrated holliday. It is loved by all, as it celebrates free candy for kids, teens, and adults. Everyone will dress up, and go trick or treating... Many game websites will have halloween events.

It is not native to Soledan culture, and due to decades of self-imposed isolation we do not celebrate it.

A couple of companies will have dress-up parties at the end of October, but other than that Halloween has gradually fallen into obscurity over the centuries, and only a few communities practice it. However, Pony immigrants have brought over "Nightmare Night" which has many similarities to Trick-or-Treat, except that the children will "sacrifice" some of their candy in a bonfire at the end of the night to keep an entity known as "Nightmare Moon" from eating them, and this has become increasingly popular among non-Ponies in Neue Bayreuth and the state of Cwithers where Ponies are most common.
I’m mostly here for... something to do, I suppose.

Well Aravea was actually founded on Halloween, so the typical Halloween celebrations go hand in hand with our independence celebrations. Although the Halloween celebrations normally take place in the evening after the conclusion of our independence commerations.

Halloween is considered as a Bank and Royal Holiday and it means a big celebration for those people who are descended from the Scots and English as they have some big Halloween parties and trick or treats for anyone not just for the kids

Hallowe'en - which we call Samhain - is celebrated 30 OCT in our nation (all of our months have 30 days), and is one of five official National Holidays.

Halloween has been illegal since the creation of the "Halloween Ban Act 1989". It was created because of the abuse of the traditions.

萬聖節 or Wànshèngjié is celebrated every-year because we believe Wànshèngjié isn't a bad Holiday but it may be BAD if you each to much candy! Also, Wànshèngjié was brought from Planet Terra in 2321 adapted from the American Galactic Empire as we are allies with them and I like the idea that kids can get free candy once every year.

Halloween is one of our holidays, however it is declining in popularity and some areas of the nation don't celebrate it, like New Istanbul. People prefer Eid, or as we call it Şeker Bayramı (Feast of Candy), or Ramazan Bayramı (Feast of Ramadan), where kids dress up neat and kiss their elder's hand in return for candy or money.

It's the most important Tyrinthian holiday. As it is around the time when the veil between worlds is at its weakest, there are frequently festivals and summoning contests held. Though, in Tyrinth it's more of a week-long celebration than a single day.

Fatatatutians will use any excuse for a holiday. It isn't unusual to see people walking around in costume any day of the year. Of course on Halloween itself costumes are virtually universal. Last year the Prime Minister rose in Parliament dressed as Alphonse and caused some confusion among misinformed Members who thought he had been elected President.

This year Alphonse is expected to be a popular costume again among children, along with the submarine Goldfish. Many will also dress up as President Fish as well. "Scary" costumes are always common, with droves of miniature zombies roaming the streets. Hula girls and whales are also perennial favorites.

All Hallow's Eve is fairly widely observed in the Federacy albeit in different forms. It is an official labour holiday in the states of Enscirya, Kiravia Scotia, Nerthalia, Priþera, New Ardmore, and the Intærmec Islands, and an early-closure day for the Federal government and many businesses.

Kiravians belonging to the Ĥeldican ethnic groups, because of their partial Celtic ancestry, observe the holiday in a similar fashion to Western Hallowe'en, decorating their homes with gourds, folk art, carved pumpkins, and other charms traditionally intended to ward off marauding spirits, and wearing dark hoods and cloaks. Though trick-or-treating is not practiced, most celebrants will generally convene at the homes of friends for the consumption of hard cider and pumpkin stout, often moving from one host to another throughout the night.

In addition, in non-intercalated years, the Coscivian New Year often begins on the Gregorian date of 1 November, so for two out of every three years All Hallow's Eve is also Coscivian New Year's Eve. Because most businesses are closed on New Year's Day, All Hallow's Eve for non-Ĥeldicans is an evening often spent out dining and drinking.

Halloween, while not widely celebrated in Saurisia, has two forms: the secular form with costumes, candy, and partying and the religious form referred to as All Hallows Eve (as the 31st of October is the day before the Christian holiday All Saints' Day on November 1). There are two other holidays celebrated on the 31st which are similar in form to Halloween: the first is Blachtdrak Nacht or Black Dragon Night in English. Its origins stretch back thousands of years to an ancient Drakònian legend concerning the rise of the great and terrible Blachtis, Night Lord of Darkness and Shadow.

According to the legend, in his time, Blachtis was a powerful Dragon lord who commanded great respect and ruled over a sizable portion of the Drakraele (Dragonrealms). In addition, he commanded immense physical power and excelled in the magic arts. Unfortunately, he was also a cruel being, ruling over his subjects with an iron claw while his ever-loyal priests carried out his terrible rule amongst the Civlæ.

He was eventually challenged by the great Civlæ hero and demigod Spiro Fæìa. By this time, Blachtis himself had become a demigod in all his power and lust for wealth and destruction. The two did battle atop High Hothàr, then the highest mountain in all of the Dragonrealms. The duel was great and terrible, so much that the mountain was shattered from the immense powers summoned by the two during their fighting. At last, Spiro had succeeded in defeating his enemy, the great dragon plummeting to his death atop the ridges of the mountain, shattering them from his immense size and power, though at the cost of his own life.

Unfortunately, he had only succeeded in destroying his physical body, his soul surviving. Unable to take physical form, he only deals out death and destruction indirectly and he has his ever-loyal servants, who had dispersed after their Lord was defeated, to carry on his terrible will ever after.

It is from this legend that sprung the popular story that on certain nights every year, Blachtis' soul comes down to wreak havoc and steal the souls of those unfortunate enough to come within his path. It is from this story that the popular custom of donning costumes on those special nights every year appeared, in order to fool Blachtis and ensure that he would move on and not steal individuals' souls. A popular tradition among Drakònians is to don masks reminiscent of the Spiro in order to drive off Blachtis and his servants, fearful of the return of the ancient hero. In addition to candy, youth collect other sweets, including pastries, spiced drinks, and various forms of small pieces of meat that had been selectively packaged so as to ensure they wouldn't make too much of a mess. The Saurians have, over the centuries, begun to celebrate Blachdrak Nacht in much the same way as some humans celebrate the secular form of Halloween though there are some sects of Saurism who celebrate it in a different way by collecting various treats and gathering before gathering them before an effigy of the much-feared-and-loathed Didelphus the Plague-Bearer. Then, in a ceremony with much chanting, the effigy is set ablaze and the participants celebrate by dancing, singing, and passing the treats around; some have theorized that this may have been an allusion to some ancient period of Saurian history that is largely lost to record and is only remembered in myth and legend.

And, of course, the second holiday similar to Halloween in Saurisia is Nightmare Night, which is celebrated by the equines of both New Equestria and Poneria.

Halloween is very popular in Nord Amour, and over the decades has become just as popular as Easter and Christmas, partly due to a decline in religion and partly due to the mass commercialization of the holiday. However, due to large, dark, wooded areas, the tradition of "trick or treating" is mostly confined to major cities and larger suburbs, to prevent children from getting lost in the forests.

There are also restrictions on handing out candy. When the economy was especially bad, people would attempt to sell children and even adults small packs of candy for absurd prices, and laws had to be made against this after a long list of complaints.

Halloween is growing in popularity every year in Silila. It was initially dismissed as a distraction and a waste of time by Sililans, but over the years has gained popularity with younger citizens. A typical Halloween celebration usually involves trick or treating for the children followed by a community costume party. It is frequently treated as a part of the Harvest Festival which is celebrated on November 1.
