All thoughtform colonies strive to increase their numbers, their territory, and their sphere of influence.

Individual thoughtforms strive to follow protocol, which is a set of inborn instincts and desires roughly analogous to a legal code. While protocol includes a number of different commands and covers a wide variety of situations, it is primarily focused around making sure that each thoughtform plays the role of its caste well. The roles of the castes, incidentally, all contribute to increasing the colony's numbers, territory, and influence.

Brellachi are driven by their desire to please their Goddess. In practice, this typically means looking after 'Her Creation' (that being the environment and everything in it, and indeed their own bodies too), not distancing oneself too far from 'Her Creation' (immersing oneself in nature is considered to be the ultimate form of worship), and showing compassion to one's fellows. They typically live healthy lives (as per the exercise and nutritional guidelines laid out in their holy texts), spending great deals of time outdoors, and rarely pursue great wealth. Large donations to the Church of Her Divine Glory are common, for the Church tends to operate much like a charity and help the poor.

The desire to immerse themselves in nature is seen as the primary reason for the persistence of so many nomadic, hunter-gatherer tribes in Brellach; members of these tribes consider themselves to be the 'purest' members of society, being as they are the most immersed in the creation of the Goddess.
