The katana was alright for what it did, that being slashing unarmed peasants. The fact that it was constructed of folded pig iron didn't help it a lot.

Katana edges rate somewhere above prison shanks, but not a lot more.

I figured that much.

It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to issue all your M16A1's wood furniture.

why do these 1950s soldiers have plate armour?
Hello humans. I am Sporekin, specifically a European Umber-Brown Puffball (or more formally, Lycoperdon umbrinum). Ask me anything.
And yet they came out to the stars not just with their lusts and their hatred and their fears, but with their technology and their medicine, their heroes as well as their villains. Most of the races of the galaxy had been painted by the Creator in pastels; Men were primaries.

They had decent iron and enough good steel to give them the edges they had. Is was a good cutter. Disputing that makes you just as bad as the fanatics who think it was magic.

Getting away from the katana. Sabre stomps bro

Was browsing the Army website and saw this in the FAQ. Dunno why but it kinda amuses me that those questions are common enough to be in the FAQ.

Wiki says:
"The M1 carbine was used with the M8 grenade launcher, which was developed in early 1944. It was fired with the .30 Carbine M6 Grenade Blank cartridge to launch 22 mm rifle grenades. Stress from firing rifle grenades would eventually crack the carbine's stock. It also couldn't use the M8 launcher with a M7 auxiliary "booster" charge (to extend its range) without breaking the stock. This made it a type of emergency-issue weapon."

Fancy that. I'd have thought the ,30 Carbine too small to effectively launch grenades.

I once worked a recruiting event where a guy came up to me and asked what the army was. I thought he was taking the piss, till I realised he actually did not know what the Army was, and hadn't heard of it before. I was impressed.

Hey,
Does anyone know what became of the VBR-PDW? It was a fairly decent looking concept, but you never see or hear of it outside CoD these days. I checked the sight, but everything but for a few pictures had been pulled "To comply with Belgian weapons laws."

Interesting funfact: My phone is fairly insistent on converting VBR-PDW to CBRN, despite there being nearly no similarity.

.30 Carbine and .357 Magnum are very, very similar out of an 18" barrel.
