Law Enforcement in Saurisia is generally organized on a federalized basis, with most cities, towns, and villages having at least a form of law enforcement ranging from a Police Department which has employees in the thousands to only a single police officer in a tiny village. Individual Counties maintain Sheriff Departments, which handle criminal cases outside of cities and towns. Even Riot Police and SWPU units are organized on a community basis, often being maintained by a particular town or city.

Private security firms do handle tasks of law enforcement, mostly by providing security to politicians, corporate executives, or companies. A few do provide their services to the general public, of course. The exception to the general rule about local law enforcement are the specialized divisions which concern national matters, such as the Special Counter-Terrorism Directorate. They're organized more Federally, though they do have State and Territorial Branches.

For when the Police are unavailable or unable to help in any way, concerned citizens step in to take the law into their own claws and deliver their own brand of justice. After all, Saurisians know that the Police won't always be there to help you and it is best to deal with a situation yourself, despite protests from self-righteous foreigners opposing such a tradition. Of course, vigilantes are supposed to not go overboard in their actions, which might result in innocent people getting harmed or overly brutal methods of apprehension or elimination of the suspect are employed.

Ruskarkand itself has no strict police force to speak of, outside of the Knights posted around the landscape - Soulless Husks of Human Challengers stripped of their humanity and made to otherwise guard regions from future interlopers, as they once were. Likewise; there are also devoted Humans which have metamorphosed into a form similar to the Draan. Whilst they lack physique and the ability of flight, their compliment of perception and their honed ability to breathe fire is used to ward off trespassers and 'keep the peace' in the Dragonlands secure.

As you might note, their arsenal consists of a Bladed Weapon and a Shield; atypical of the usual arsenal that Ruskarkand has to offer when it comes to the various Knights which serve. Although, such variation does exist in what might be used; shields may be forgone in order to wield a two-handed weapon, and a bladed weapon might not be used at all in favour of something with crushing or splitting power. Likewise, they're typically adorned with a relatively protective plated cuirass, greaves, cuisses, tassets, gauntlets, pauldrons and helmets in order to ensure that they're protected.

Actual Draan Knights are used to keep the peace in order among the Dragons. They're perhaps the closest thing to a Policing Force in Ruskarkand as it gets, although they're considered to be above the pitiful work that the Humans and the Devoted undertake. Instead, they answer directly to work which is to do with the Dragons which inhabit Ruskarkand; eliminating or putting that which is unruly into its respectful place, should it be decreed necessary (a rather rare occurance, indeed).

The police force is handled on a local level. In some states, like Yeuriar, they are a full-on military force with tanks, APCs, fighter planes, and artillery. In others, like the Himpari Plains, they are far and few in between. Most states have a nominal police force, but leave street justice (gang warfare) to settle disputes.

Each planet has its own police forces that enforce both local and Imperial laws whilst star systems draw the crews for their stations and vessels from each planetary bodies police forces to enforce the laws of the solar system. Garmillan worlds however are policed by the elite and often brutal Imperial Guard.

City and prefecture police are organized and given equipment as that particular city or prefecture sees fit. Unless they do anything in a way that goes against the Dagnian constitution, the federal government does not intervene. There is a federal police force that handles crimes that go across prefecture borders. There are no uniforms as they are expected to blend in with the public. There is a standard issue pistol, but they are welcome to bring their own weapon.

The Aurinsulan police are divided into four groups, easily-differentiated by the color of their uniforms. The common Sky Police (named for their sky-blue shirts) are carefully trained to be approachable and non-threatening. Their uniforms do not feature neckties, and the only weapon they carry is pepper spray - which they carry not on a special belt, but just inside their pockets. The only remotely-martial feature about them is that they don't ever wear hats - they either wear plastic helmets (hard-hats, really) or go bare-headed. Their job is to enforce traffic laws, take statements, assist the elderly across the street, and get yelled at by unhappy citizens.

The Sea Police (dark blue uniforms) are a little more ready-for-action. They wear dark-blue T-shirts and cargo pants, and jump-boots. They carry side-arms as a matter of course, and their vans have shotguns in them. They also have bullet-proof vests and ballistic helmets. The Sea Police do not patrol, either on the sea or otherwise - they hang out at headquarters until somebody needs them. They are actually an integrated part of the regular Sky Police, and the precinct head - himself a Sky Police - can give them orders. One does not simply encounter the Sea Police; they come for you.

The Green Police belong to the Strategic Intelligence Bureau; their job is to guard sensitive installations and VIPs. They themselves are bifurcated into two groups - the dress-uniform-wearing 'go away' police, and the full-tactical-wearing 'ready for action' police. An entire district of the Capital - the so-called "Government Suburb" is under their direct jurisdiction. In any case, all of them have both side-arms and assault rifles.

Finally, the capital district of Xinjing has at its disposal the fearsome Black Police. Famous for briefly adopting steel face-masks (which they have since stopped using), the Special Armed Response Group is a highly-trained hostage-rescue and counter-terrorism force. Thankfully, with Xinjing being relatively safe, the Black Police have very little to do. They answer directly to the Capital District Superior Police Inspector, who sub-lets them to different precincts depending on on-the-ground need. They are armed comparably to most such forces.

Traekunian police organizations are a subset of the Auxilia, the umbrella organization encompassing all armed state organizations outside the autonomous Legions. It is joined in the Auxilia by the Militia, which serves as both a reserve force and a gendarmerie, and the Royal Traekunian Army, the secondary military of Traekun which serves as support to the more heavily elite Legions. The police are the most populous but also most divided of the Auxilia organizations, with one police organization for each settlement rather than one per each territory (equivalent to a state or province) like the Militia or one single entity like the RTA. In the instance of an invasion of Traekun, all police organizations within the invaded region will be put under the control of and folded into the Militia.

The standard Traekunii police officer is equipped with a protective vest, a (burst fire or automatic) machine pistol, a cutlass, and an electric convulsion-inducing rune (called Spasm) painted or branded onto their arm. Police vehicles are primarily armored vehicles equipped with a small armory containing rifles, shotguns, anti-ballistic shields and body armor. This armory is accessed when dealing with an armed threat.

Specialist functions are provided by the Militia or RTA. Most Militias maintain special units trained for hostage situations and general SWAT tactics, while the RTA may be called in to annihilate a rebellion or put down a riot.

There are also the White Censors, the secret police of Traekun. They primarily deal with matters of treason and government corruption, removing those who are judged to be traitors. Government corruption in this case is considered treason, specifically abuse of power. Most of their work is within the higher levels of society, dealing with aristocrats and bureaucrats. The average citizen is simply not important enough for the White Censors to care about them.
