It gives me great honour to be standing here on this day on which we celebrate a golden fifty years as an independent nation. In fifty years we have risen from a small and relatively quiet colony to a strong and proud regional power. Our goals set on the day of secession from Britain have been met and new heights have been reached. However it goes without saying that in order to reach and attain those goals we have had to endure some hardships together, and it could be said indeed that "together" is an appropriate word to describe how we, as a nation, have handled those problems and hardships.

The Yakusan people have proved themselves to be strong, willing, brave and courageous in the face of the challenges that they meet, and will meet in the future. It can be assumed that as a country, our next goal is to manage another fifty years of freedom, and then another one hundred after that. In order to achieve that goal we must be prepared for everything we face. We must expect trouble and strife along the path to glory, but as we face the challenges of the future, we must also remember the past.

We must remember the goals achieved by out ancestors in the generations before us. We must remember the sacrifices made in the interests of liberty and freedom and democracy that are real today in this country. We must remember the sacrifices made for our own lives and to preserve our own culture and way of living. That is why we are here today to celebrate an important, defining event in our national outlook. Independence is an important feature of any sovereign state that is not to be taken for granted. To achieve that dream of an independent Yakus, our ancestors had to fight and dream and hope whilst remaining strong in the face of failure. And in doing so, they managed to make true the dream we are living today. By celebrating today with parties and feasts and fireworks an military parades we say thank you to those who made it possible, whether or not they are with us today. I personally would like to thank every good, hard working citizen of our great country for doing what you do, doing what you did and doing what you will do in the name of progress, through spirit and passion.
