Where Did Your Country Stand During World War One?

To commemorate a century passing since the initiation of the Great War, we have created this thread for your country to inform us of your position then.

Divine Aphrodite, initially, supported the Allies from a pacifist standpoint, though troops were moved in to support Greece during the Battle of Struma. Whenever Greece entered the Balkans Campaign, our soldiers joined the Army Of The Orient, officially allying us with the Entente powers.

Our country isn't a country yet but we do consider our selves a Caliphate like the Ottomans so we where with the Central Powers.

We stood with the British and thus with the Etente powers and declared war on the Ottoman Empire, capturing territory in Eastern Arabia in the process. This happened in 1914-1915, 15 years after we declared our British-backed independence from the Ottoman Empire due to the increase of Turkish nationalists in the Ottoman government and the isolation of the Empire's Arabs and other non-Turkish ethnic groups.

We started off as a noncombatant giving Germany economic support, but our trade ships were sank indiscriminately by both sides. Britain negotiated a deal where they would lend their navy's protection if we broke off ties with Germany. We agreed, as the UKNS military most mostly a land force at the time and all our available ships were protecting our shores. Germany violated our sovereignty by building mines in Danish lands, so we entered against Germany very late in the war.

This led to a number of changes in the country postwar. We reduced our reliance on foreign trade, and we built up our navy to operate outside of Nordic territory.

We are not aware of any "world wars". However, about a hundred years ago we did experience an influx of German immigrants at about the same time as the German influence in the rest of the Pacific declined. Historians have no solid explanation for the relatively sudden concentration of Germans in the region.

Columbians Joined WW1 on February 4th 1915 Under the leadership of General Edward Sanders GOA. The Original Strategy was to deploy troops in Southern France to establish a ground HQ. then to send the soldiers North to assist the French fending off the German Army. Columbia actually suffered more casualties than the USA losing 176,943 soldiers.

Important Columbian battles of the first world war

Battle of Bosun Wood, April 16th 1915 - Columbian Defeat. A poor strategical operation in which Columbian Command attempted to march troops to the Western front through passage of Bosun Wood. The germans saw through this tactic and the troops ambushed and massacred, leaving very few survivors.

Battle of Seltz, July 3rd 1915 - Columbian Victory. Bombarding the German Army outpost at the River Seltz with heavy Artillery Fire, The Columbians managed to gain a foothold in the North East by taking many German Prisoners of war and securing a huge train of weapons and ammunition meant for the Germans in the Western Front

Battle of Browning, March 12th 1916- Columbian Defeat. Columbian Soldiers fought alongside the French to destroy a large naval blockade. The battle was a disaster for the French and Columbian forces. Columbia had no established navy and therefore had to rely on France's own naval defences which were already destroyed and the Germans forced a retreat for the Columbians.

Operation Gernard, November 30th 1916- Columbian Victory. Considered by many to be the greatest Columbian Military Victory in history, the original Operation was to secure ammunition to the British front. but a huge German army was sent to destroy the Ammunition supply. A total of 563,700 Germans marched on the 75,082 Columbian troops stationed. The Columbian's lost 36,499 men. The Germans lost 400,046.

Operation Stag Beetle, January 9th 1917- Columbian Victory. The Columbians were sent to take the occupied town of Dijon but the Commander of the operation Major William Hewlett decided to send in an aerial strike to route out the German defences. The tactic worked and the German defences were soon destroyed by Columbian Airforce allowing the Columbian Army to move in and secure the town.

Battle of Zeppelin, January 30th 1917- Columbian Victory. The germans now aware of Columbia's Air capabilities sent the bulk of the Zepplin fleet to destroy the Columbian Air Field set up in Orleans. But Columbia had excellent Anti Aircraft weapons as well as a Air force. The german zeppelin feet was destroyed and is the battle was one of the biggest aerial battles in history.

The Council stood with the Entente against the oppression of the Central Powers. However, the Council were unhappy with the Entente's support of the repressive and old-fashioned Russian Tsardom. It can truthfully be said that when the Russian Revolution occurred, none in the Council mourned Russia's loss from the Entente.

This war was taking place several hundred lightyears from us, so only a few long-range radio buffs even knew it was happening, and fewer yet were interested enough to continue to tune their radios to those specific frequencies to follow the entire conflict.

Bets were placed among those 100 or so space radio buffs who did track it as to who would win, but even they didn't really "side with" any of the combatants. They simply bet with each other according to their analyses of who they thought would come out victorious.

The Decepticon government had no official interest at all, but did assign one military person to listen to the radio broadcasts picked up from the far-off world on the off-chance that our species ever met. It believed that gathering this intelligence would give it a better understanding of the mysterious "humans" and what they might do in case of hostilities...or in case they ever became the targets of less-violent Decepticon activity, such as scams or smuggling.

Interestingly, this war did have a very good result for one particular person. One of the radio buffs, upon picking up a news broadcast about the Treaty of Versailles, accurately predicted that Germany would "renegotiate" that settlement within the next 30 years. (In our culture, "renegotiating" a settlement is usually a euphemism for a violent rematch.) This was very good for the one who made the prediction because it enabled him to get a well-respected position in long-term military strategy with the Decepticon Military's Tactics and Strategy Division. Such a prediction might not seem so outstanding to someone who lived on that far-off world, but to accurately nail it just from radio broadcasts picked up hundreds of light-years away - without ever yet having even seen a human - was quite another matter.
