HMG vs GMG for APC armament?

I get that bow guns are an all around bad idea, but doesn't the BMP-3 have them?

On paper, a Strker rifle platoon has 3 HMGs (one on each of the rifle squad ICVs) and a GMG (on the ICV of the weapons squad).

There are some RWS that combine a machine gun and grenade launcher.

You could also go for a 20mm (or larger) system. These are on the heavier end of APC armament.

I really like that. How large is that system, in terms of dimensions and weight? Looks quite small to many of the auto cannon RWS I've seen (which are usually almost like a full turret in terms of size)

The bulk of the machinery is hidden behind the big ammo can - it's probably not all that different to the ARX 20's ~270kg.

Bit heavier for the one on the MA11, which is installed as a full unit with the cupola.

One is presumably cheaper and easier (one lorry can carry a full platoon in marching load whereas it would need probably 7 TUMs to carry a platoon in marching load), but the other provides more mobility b/c a land rover can go more places, faster than a lorry.

In part it depends on the type of movement I would imagine.

If you are just driving them across the country, the truck/lorry would be better. You use less vehicles, so less gas usage, fewer drivers, etc.

If your moving them towards an engagement the utility vehicles (Land Rover/HUMVEE) would be better. More vehicles but better tactical flexibility, less lost if one of the vehicles is hit.

Can double barreled SPGs halve the number of vehicles needed, or would there be some other problems for effects in fire?
I was thinking that if you've half number of double barreled SPGs you wouldn't notice difference when firing a small target are, but might be problematic, if you've to cover larger area at expense of density of fire.
Or not.
