I'd play it safe and just ditch the track moving mechanism altogether. Even if it's a nice concept, it isn't really mechanically feasible, especially for something that weighs about seventy-five tons or so.

APS and the MBT 70 is dead in the water. That is the reason why I say it is a failed design according to me for modern times.

The "massive" HEAT round had very poor penetration tbh. An ideal late MBT-70 would either be:

1) M1A2
2) L/44, Rheinmetall autoloader, German transmission/engine, integrated NERA/BDD-style armour.

It would probably end up being comparable to T-72B.

Isn't this the route that the Germans were wanting to go? I seem to recall that the KPz-70 was to armed with the 120mm. Don't remember if it was to be autoloaded, though.

Speaking of which, ATGM launching methods. I know it's been covered before, in a way, but what if I took, say, a :NOT:Marder/M113/Puma bastard, what would the advantages and/or disadvantages of fitting a turret capable of launching, say, TOW-2A missiles as its primary weapon?

All countries converted APCs and IFVs into ATGM carriers so they could have tank destroyers with a high ammunition capacity. if you mean an IFV that carries out its normal duties but with an ATGM rather than any other weapon, that's dumb.

What I mean is basically what the IT1/Jaguar 2 was, but mid-Seventies, properly enclosed turret, with a healthy blend of the Puma's lines. Idea was to get a conventional manned turret, with the basket holding the cases in a revolver-style autoloader, holding sixteen missiles or so. It'd be a GLATGM-like system, except it'd only launch TOW missiles.
