Protection is the one big downside. But I like the price tag on the TAM a lot better. Also the fact that it's chassis can be used for just about every other combat vehicle type you could need.

Leo 2, 140mm ETC, thicker glacis, EuroPowerPack II (EPP but with way more kW of power), and an upgraded version of whatever sight is on there now.

I need to keep my MBT-70's relevant for that same RP.

The last time I asked for modernization tips the responses were add an unmanned turret and/or chobham.

I'm not entirely sure that I can just slap chobham on the design as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for it (I remember there being heated discussion on the tanknet forum about the impossibility of adding chobham to the design).

Here are the current modifications:

It includes air conditioning, fiber optic wiring, digital FCS, new IR sights for all crew members, a turret reference system for the driver, deletion of the 20mm cannon, addition of a .50 cal RWS, additional space turret armor, a fully armored bustle for ammunition stowage, NERA track skirts, slat armor across the rear, a muzzle reference system, and new munitions

At that point you should just consider using M1A2 SEP. Literally better in every way.

MBT-70 is broadly comparable to T-72 but worse in most ways except automotive, where it was superb.

How would you add an unmanned turret to a tank whose hull was literally too small to fit even the driver in the first place? That's why they're in the turret to begin with.

While on tanks with unmanned hulls, I tanksharp'd one like that once, ended up with a cubic decimetre of useable volume outside the (admittedly massive) turret basket.

Speaking of which, ATGM launching methods. I know it's been covered before, in a way, but what if I took, say, a :NOT:Marder/M113/Puma bastard, what would the advantages and/or disadvantages of fitting a turret capable of launching, say, TOW-2A missiles as its primary weapon?
