Why does sketchup render everything with cell-shading, to make it look like a cartoon or a Borderlands vehicle? Why does sketchup render everything like that?

Oh, that depends on the settings. I like the cartoon-ish look myself. You can display it in a lot of different ways.

Image The first five are different Sketchup settings. The bottom right one I have messed around with a bit with Paint.net which I sometimes do, although usually with more effort.

Thanx. :) I use Paint.net most of the time to give a model more of a 3D look but sometimes I have tried to make models look like they are real. Like here with these Welgian Carmen tanks:

:)

I like the Carmen tank myself. It is a rather early tank model of mine but it is still one of my favorites.

It is a very simple and basic design. Steampunk and inspired by the Grant/Lee tank.

General shape, armament, cut down on it's massive size.

If I do remake it, it will probably be when I'm more efficient with scaling.
This stupid thing still isn't finished:

Allanea wrote:Guys, how much penetration can a modern day 100mm rocket-propelled grenade (similar in principle to those shot from anti-tank rocket launchers, but in a vehicle mounted setup) reasonably have?
It depends. There are many types of shaped charge liners, some of which have incendiary effects. There are also a variety of targets, like concrete, steel, ERA, and ceramics.

http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2011ballistics/12056.pdf

Glass is very ductile, if possible, I would use depleted uranium glass. Otherwise, for garden variety shaped charge warhead, I'd say 500mm for a multipurpose shaped charge that could be carried by infantry, 600mm for a multipurpose shaped charge that uses a confined target, and 800mm for a tandem shaped charge which is purpose designed to defeat tank targets.

I'm just guessing really. I'm not a ballistics expert by any means.

I like them massive like that. It gives them a unique quality. But I suppose they would look more realistic if you did scale them down a bit.

Yeah they were made when my nation was in a more 40k-like universe where size and raw power is a good thing. I have been planning to retcon the entirety of Fordorsia's history, so I'll have to remake and/or recycle many vehicles.

I am in the same process. :D

I wasn't trying to do 40k but my nation was a lot more fantastic before I started working on the reboots.
It is also because I try to fit in more with NationStates and probably because I know a lot more about tanks now than I did back then.

My approach to roleplaying has changed as well. At first I didn't consider Stahn to be on Earth but in some sort of paralel universe. I wondered that with so many huge new nations how there could be room for the USA, Russia, China and so on on this planet as well.

But a lot of people I RP with do consider their nations to be on Earth and made that part of the roleplays. I decided to give in and try to make Stahn a bit more realistic. Welgium is still my neighbour to the south and it is still a steampunk nation but they never get involved with roleplays outside of my continent/island.

Okay, I made the changes and am ready to be humiliated again...all for the sake of getting this design to "reasonable" status.

Find what is wrong
I use this old account for FT, Pentaga Giudici and Vadia are for MT.

"Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening"

Construction is taking forever, but Prole Confederation will be paying millions of Trade Units for embassies and merchants that show up at the SBTH

I tried sticking the MA9A3's low-profile turret onto the MA11, which one looks better?

What soldier is going to put the effort in coloring one roadwheel differently than the other roadwheels?

besides, roadwheels aren't usually visible on a battlefield.

Truth be told, there's not a lot of change in there.

Offer the MA9's turret to customers who operate the MA9, maybe.
Rich and Corporations wrote:notice the roadwheels aren't colored in the right order?

And? The road wheels are painted in solid, varying colours. Which was the point.

Oooh, wait, it's almost as though your first point got run into the ground and you're scrabbling to find something else.

Pray tell - if uneven paint is going to be applied to the roadwheels anyway - why is it that colour can't be applied in the right order? Hmm...

no but seriously

these objections don't seem to have much substance to them for some reason

Rich and Corporations wrote:but seriously, 45mm CTA autocannons to achieve ammunition commonality with AA guns and IFVs?

Oh, you were referring to me? I'm not trying to achieve ammunition commonality - 45mm CTA is only for the IFVs, I'll use something a tad smaller for my SPAAGs.

Amastol manufactures an AFV version of the automatic cannon I use on my fighter aircraft, so I might trying installing those.
