Just some quick math, BTW: saving $300 per active-duty soldier would be roughly 420 million dollars in savings for the US (1.4 million active duty personnel). The actual cost of a M16A2 (When I last looked it up, anyway) was nearly 600 dollars, so replacing your M16/M4 with an AK-101 would actually halve the cost of your rifles.

Yea but 420 million dollars is nothing to the US Army, it is only like 70 M1A1s.

It's enough money to fund the entire US military for about sixteen hours of 2013.

1. This is however not a good comparison. An assault rifle once purchased can serve a country's military for years and even decades (the IDF uses some M16s that have been made originally for the US military and have been banging around since the 1970s). Whether you spend $300 or $600 for a product that you'll be using for 10 years is frankly not a big deal.

2. The US expends literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to train and prepare a single soldier. If a soldier with an M16A2 is 0.5% more effective than a soldier with an AK-101, the extra spending is worth it. (As it will save you at least $200 for each soldier that ends up using the rifle).
