The S 35s gave a good account of themselves, proving to be indeed superior to the German tanks in direct combat, but they were rather hesitantly deployed as the French High Command mistakenly supposed the gap was the German Schwerpunkt and tried to preserve their best tanks to block subsequent attacks by the rest of the Panzerwaffe.

This was fighting Pzr IIIs.

The Panzer III/IV wasn't even being developed at that time.

That's not what it was. It was designed to take the best elements of both tanks and combine them together while using sloped armor and a long-barreled 75 mm gun.

HE probably has never heard of the panzer III/IV tank development.
As for the somua it went against the 3.7 cm gun of the panzer 3. I doubt it would have fared ok against the 50 mm L 60 gun of the panzer 3.

actually, if he's talking about extremely dense, muddy, umid tropical jungles, then yeah, there might be some problems.

that's one of the reasons the brazilian army uses the Leopard 1A5 instead of a proper MBT. brazil did have a proprietary MBT design - see EE-T1 and EE-T2 "Osório".

it was created specially for a saudi competition. it kicked the Abram's ass, but as always the US resorted to politic intervention and stuff, and the saudi army ultimately chose the Abrams for this very reason. it was then rejected by the brazilian army as well, since it'd be hard to use such a tank in the amazonic forest. without funds, the company that designed the Osório broke down. surely a shame - with proper upgrades, it could be easily on par, if not above, other modern tanks such as the Abrams and T-90.

If you can use a Leopard 1A5 there, you can use a Leopard 2 there. That argument is not plausible.

If you can use a Leopard 1A5 there, you can use a Leopard 2 there. That argument is not plausible.

Light Tanks (better to say, lighter tanks) has definitely advantages to be light. Stingray or STRV would kick-assed every hi-tech main battle tank in city ruins, in jungle or in forested mountains.
That's why Republic of China (Tchaj-Wan) is more or less fine with modernized M60 - most advanced PRC tanks would had problems with their mountainous and urban Total Defense anyway.
