First of all Pith helmets are superior to all headwear, Pith can hold you when you are sad, cure you when you are sick, it can babysit your kids, drive you to the grocery store, and held you to be a better person. No other piece of headwear... or anything in general will ever top the Pith helmet, if you fire it at an enemy it penetrates heavy armor, if you throw it at your wife, she will stop arguing and have a seat, if you put it under your car it'll help you change your tires.

EDIT: So are the British, the British Military has over 30 Aircraft Carriers and 20,000 Main Battle Tanks.

I must admit that I adore landsknecht hats, they are awesome as can be. However... the rest of their clothes just keep rubbing me the wrong way, not entirely sure why because they are flamboyant, bright and ornate, everything you should love about uniforms! But still there is just something about them....

Is it the assymetry? Perhaps the lack of uniformity? They dress like they're walking battle standards, it's just such a pity they chop up the fine, luxurious silks they wear to expose the layers beneath.

Yeah those are all good reasons, I would actually think the pattern of them and the lack assymetry might be the biggest issues.

Besides, it is especially obvious when you know that us Swedes looked much cooler.

There is. The buttstock has provisions to slide the cover plate right above the 203 breech onto it, turning it into an E-tool. Granted, it can't be fired while being dug with, but...

Good to see CYOE back

Postby Gear 1 » Wed Jul 23, 2014 3:07 am

Welcome back CYOE, like a long lost friend of sorts... or maybe a vicious taskmaster.

Rejoining the thread with an example of equipment in use by the Military Transportation Service, a U-10 Fusion Drive railyard switcher.

Due to the far reaches of territory GEAR 1 needs to defend, a network of government owned railroads operates with and beyond the central network used for civilian and commercial purposes. Many far-flung frontier posts can be reached by rail, enabling rapid re-supply and deployment of combat assets to their GDP's (General Deployment Positions) upon the issue of an alert. The U-10 is among the fleet of small locomotives that assemble military (or civilian) consists in the Zone of the Interior prior to military movement along the MSR's (Main Supply Routes) and Frontier Routes.

(Example U-10 includes a member of the GEAR 1 Air Force Special Operations Command, a Joint Terminal Attack Controller, hitching a short ride.)

Also, projects in the works:

GEAR 1 Brigade Combat Team Of The Line units:

BCT Special Troops Battalion (Includes BCT HQ & HQ Company)
BCT Support Battalion
BSB HQ & HQ Company
Supply & Distribution Co
Level II Maintenance Co
Brigade Medical Co
3 x Forward Support Co (Tactical BN)
1 x Forward Support Co (Cavalry RSTA Sqn)
1 x Forward Support Co (Fires BN)

Armored Battalion, Heavy BCT
BN HQ & HQ Company
2 x Armored Infantry Company
2 x Main Battle Tank Company
1 x Armored Sapper Company

Armored Cavalry RSTA (Recon, Surveillance & Target Acquisition) Squadron
SQ HQ & HQ Troop
LRRP Company
NBC Recon Platoon
3 x Armored Cavalry Troop
1 x UGRV Troop
1 x UCAV Troop

Armored Fires Battalion, Heavy BCT
BN HQ & HQ Battery
Targeting Platoon
Ammunition Battery
3 x Direct Support (M-109A7G1 Paladin II) Battery
1 x General Support (M-270A3G1 MLRS) Battery
1 x Air Defense (M-7A1G1 Linebacker) Battery

"Medium" Infantry Brigade Combat Team
Marine Infantry Brigade Combat Team
"Light" Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (Light/Reserve, Airborne, Air Assault)
etc. etc.

Considering this is the first CYOE as it's acronym does not stand for the first three iterations of Creating You - Make Your Own Everything, this is a first of it's kind and actually an entirely different thread.

Anyway, very nice art, I had been following your stuff on Paper Soldiers forum, I would like for Paper Soldiers to make a comeback, it still has it's place as a dedicated place for any spillover, RPs, long developing threads, oversized images etc.

On an Armored Battalion only having 2 Tank Companies: I hope they have 6 Platoons each.

On your Cavalry units being Recon, Surveillance, and Target Acquisition: I posted two links and paragraphs of words to explain to the people on here that that is the purpose of Cavalry and they thought I was crazy.

I'm sure the perceived "closeness" to the old stuff only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Actually, I've been working off the recent doctrine of the American brigade combat teams, with some modifications to fit my personal school of battle tactics. Rather than creating battalion task forces in which an Infantry outfit would swap a company with an Armored outfit, the new thought process in the Heavy Brigades is to put equal amounts of infantry and armor under one command. Sources include U.S. Army FKSM 71 series and manuals on the HBCT. And oddly enough, the BCT is not new. It's organized in concept like the Regimental Combat Teams of WWII - combined arms under one command. The idea of armored units being a mixed bag also supports its primary mission of fire, maneuver and shock effect. You don't have lines of tanks slugging it out anymore. Instead you have highly mobile running combat tactics like Thunder Runs through occupied Baghdad. (There's a book called "Thunder Run" about the 3rd ID tank-infantry operations around Baghdad. It's a good read.)

I like how the U.S. Army likes to have fancy acronyms like RSTA, when the Cav is still the Cav. Just happens to be what they do.

And so I don't post discourse without art... fresh from the armed forces research and development directorate: Mark 7 A3G1 Linebacker II Unmanned Ground Vehicle

Designed to replace older M-7A1G1 Linebacker manned air defense vehicles in armored units, and selected to incorporate multiple Universal Weapons System launcher pods, the Linebacker II has four UWS Common Launcher A pods (4 large artillery SSM, 8 medium range SAM, 8 medium range precision artillery rockets, 16 short-range SAM or combinations) and a 40mm squeezebore railgun, useful against air and ground targets. The Linebacker II can be programmed to self-deploy, log into the BCT Integrated Air Defense System, and be remotely controlled from the brigade's Air Defense Operations Cell. When expended, it can self-navigate to a FARP (Forward Arming and Refueling Point) or use a coded beacon to guide a supply team to its position.
