Of course, any language is allowed, but people think Japanese makes a good language for "official" purposes despite the apparent lack of a government body, being a Libertarian Police State Anarchy.

There is archeological evidence to suggest that at one point, Japanese was the native language of the core Sakana ethnic group, but they were unintentionally silenced in a freak mining truck accident.

It's worth noting that the native currency's name is not native to the Sakana people. Actually, no one's really sure where "Shmagrawassiya" came from. This is less of a mystery though compared to why there's a currency in this society to begin with.

Despite being distinct and unrelated to Anglo-Saxon nations, the primary language of the Carcorodine Realm is in fact English. This originated because English was considered a non-threatening language, as it was not associated with any of the native factions of the Carcorodine Realm. In time, it would essentially replace many of the native languages. Indeed, most native languages exist only in a few culturally specific terms that didn't have clear translations in English. Such terms are found mostly in cultural aspects of society, such as media, literature, prostitution, and the theatre.

High Terelain is a complex, nuanced language common to scientists, poets, philosophers, the nobility and similar groups. Grammatically similar to Sanskrit, it is the language within which metaphysical and abstract concepts are more developed. For instance, there are four different ways of saying the High Terelain word for 'hope' each with a different shade of meaning.

Low Terelain is a simpler language and whilst meanings for varying words are also complex, for example the different ways of saying 'water' might mean hot water, cold water, still water or mirror, the words are shorter and easier to use in everyday conversation. Because of this Low Terelain is the language of the masses and is far better at describing concrete everyday processes and objects than its High counterpart.

The secondary languages were brought over from the Old Lands and are the trade languages utilised on the continent of Jalaeda prior to the Exodus. These languages are not used by the majority of the population, though there are enough speakers of these languages to make them de facto is not acknowledged languages within the Exilic Regency.

Due to efforts to preserve the language, culture and history of the Eastern Terelains, it is forbidden to teach any foreign, non-Terelain language to an individual until they have learned both High and Low Terelain. Because of this, and because there has been no contact with the West for three centuries, multilingualism is at a historic all time low within the Isles and many have stopped using the old Common languages entirely. The only reason they've even been preserved as they have is because they will be needed to aid in the translation of the Common of Jaleda during the return due to three centuries of linguistic drift.
