Joseph Daskalov of the EU to propose merger with the EC
Image
Joseph Daskalov

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - With a renewed effort for Pexit and a Kaxit referendum to happen in the next year, Speaker Joseph Daskalov of the Esquarian Union has proposed a merger with the Esquarian Community, on the grounds of reducing redundancy and increasing co-operation between liberal democratic nations in Esquarium.

Daskalov told the press that "the Esquarian Union and the Esquarian Community will inevitably have to merge: especially in these darkening times, it is fundamental that the EU and the EC be united into one organization. And with the Pexit being tabled, and the Queen of Katranjiev seeking for Katranjiev to leave the EU, presumably so they can join the EC."

"The EC and the EU fulfil mostly similar functions," he explained, "so it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for there to be two separate and conflicting organizations, when it could be simpler to just combine the two organizations and form a united organization that fulfils the same functions. In these times, it is clear that greater economic unity among the liberal democratic forces is a good idea, as well as increased co-operation among liberal and democratic nations that exist within Esquarium. The fact that we continue to have two separate organizations for the same purpose does not really make a lot of sense at the end of the day."

"Thus," he concluded, "we need to reduce redundancy and join in the global community."

His proposal would suggest negotiations with the Esquarian Community for them to absorb the current members of the EU into the EC, and to absorb their institutions. It is very likely in practice that the EC will simply absorb the EU and leave it with no identity. Once an agreement is reached, all operations in the EU will be winded down until by Dec. 31, 2016 (or 2017 if negotiations take it close to October 2016), the EU will officially cease to exist as a separate entity from the EC.

In Luziyca, outgoing President Breuvi Shjoraski has criticized the proposal, explaining that "the EC is far too intrusive compared to the EU," citing the fact that the EC requires all members to use a proportional system to elect their MEPs. He also stated that "the fact that the EU is more rightist compared to the EC is concerning, especially to the leftist members in the EC."

However, president-elect Sera Svensson was more accepting of Daskalov's proposal, saying that "for too long, the EU has been seen globally as an organization of Luziycan imperialism and puppetry. No more. The EU and the EC will need to merge sooner, rather than later, and should Daskalov's proposal get approved in the Esquarian Congress, Luziyca shall begin the process of joining the EC, regardless of whether an agreement has officially been made or not."

Huan An announced New Democratic presidential nominee
"I will fight the Popular Front to the last voter," says party's insurgent figurehead
January 15, NMR 2378

Image64 DAYS
until NMR 2378
presidential election
NGHENH NGHENH, ANTELOPIA - Having kicked off its national convention in Nghenh Nghenh, capital of the Antelopia AR, the New Democrats officially nominated Deputy Huan An as the party's candidate in the NMR 2378 presidential election.
Image
Huan An said he will put up a relentless fight against the Popular Front
nominee, whoever he may be

Jiang Hua, Speaker of the Central Council and parliamentary leader of the New Democrats, revealed the results of the latest official poll released by the party that would determine the nominee. According to the poll, an overwhelming 70 percent of New Democratic voters prefer Huan An as the candidate. 30 percent say Antelopian deputy Tuyet An is their favorite candidate.

To many, Huan's nomination was a foregone conclusion - the deputy who is the face of the New Democrats' libertarian wing has been ahead in the polls since the primary season began, leaving Tuyet An - considered a moderate rightist candidate preferred by the party's establishment - trailing behind by a margin of around 40 percentage points.

Following the announcement of Huan's nomination, thousands of supporters at the convention cheered. Huan An gleefully greeted his supporters and shook the hands of President-General Fu Wen, Vice President Derrick Lee and rival Tuyet An, who were all in attendance during the announcement in spite of controversy caused by leaked phone calls in which President-General Fu purportedly expressed his disapproval of Deputy Huan.

Huan subsequently took the stage and vowed to wage a strong campaign against the Popular Front candidate, who will be announced in less than a week.

"This is a time for all voters, New Democrats or not, to unite," he said. "As I start my campaign on behalf of the whole party, I will continue listening to the people. I will listen to fellow comrades in this party. This is not a time for rancor. This a time to come together and vote for the party that knows what's best for the Namorese people, because the Popular Front is unfit to rule Namor. Whoever runs on behalf of the Popular Front, be it Shohai Antelope or Tao James, I am ready to confront him. I will fight the Popular Front to the last voter."

President-General Fu also spoke at the convention, urging Namorese to stand behind Huan An, all while downplaying the struggle between the party's establishment and libertarian insurgency.

"Polls show this is the man who we want to run for us, so let's all have Deputy Huan's back. I don't want anyone to talk trash about this guy, do you understand?" he said, eliciting laughter.

Tuyet An congratulated Huan An for his nomination.

"Yes there are disagreements, but in the end of the day we have less disagreements with each other than we do with the left. In the end of the day, we must face the left and its angry rhetoric," she said.

The New Democrats are expected to name a vice presidential nominee by January 18, when the convention will reach its third day before adjourning.

THE BATTLE FOR HUAN AN'S RUNNING MATE
The New Democratic establishment may have lost the battle for presidential nominee, but there's a second battle they're likely to win

Image
Reports suggest that former Hoy Phong mayor Gang Yuching, an establishment favorite, may accompany Huan An in his race for the presidency

By the Editorial Board | ON THE SURFACE, all the New Democrats were in a festive mood after Deputy Huan An was announced the presidential nominee. Both President-General Fu and Vice President Lee - members of the party's establishment faction - congratulated Huan and urged the party's supporters to stand behind him, as did the unsuccessful establishment candidate Tuyet An. But behind the scenes, the New Democratic establishment is frustrated, and it's likely to assuage its anger by selecting one of its own to accompany Huan in his campaign.

The Mojing Sibo was able to get in touch with several establishment-leaning party insiders who are at the party convention in Nghenh Nghenh. Almost all of them warned us that even as an insurgent libertarian will run on the behalf of an increasingly fragmented party, the establishment will not back down.

"They're letting Huan have it," one insider said, referring to the nomination. "Now they're going to settle on the vice presidential nominee and there's nothing Huan can do about that."

Harsh words, but the insiders may very well be right. Unlike the presidential nominee, who is decided by poll, the vice presidential nominee is selected by a low-profile committee of party bosses. As "party bosses" may suggest, this committee is mostly made up of establishment New Democrats who weren't amused by Huan's nomination. Regular party supporters have little say in who becomes the VP nominee, although the presidential nominee himself does have somewhat of a leverage over who is selected.

As for Huan, he hasn't decided on who he wants to run alongside him, at least not publicly. Sources close to Huan say the libertarian nominee prefers Quý Minh, a Central Council deputy from Antelopia who played an pivotal role in diverting ethnic Antelopian New Democrats away from Tuyet An. Other viable candidates in Huan's mind include retired businessman Tu Jung, lawyer Tzo Chiang and talk radio show host Shun Chaomin, although neither of the three say they were contacted by Huan's campaign.

Meanwhile, the establishment's minds may already be made up. Despite initial speculations that it may name Tuyet An as the vice presidential nominee, recently insiders say it's settling for Gang Yuching, mayor of Hoy Phong from NMR 2360 to NMR 2375. Mayor Gang's tenure was marked by loosened government control over local businesses and lower taxes, translating to an economic boom that lasted well after he stepped down. But Gang's success in becoming the ideal New Democratic local ruler is only part of the reason why the establishment wants him - Gang is a close friend of President-General Fu Wen, having said back in NMR 2368 that Namor needs "someone who is not a politician" to lead. Insiders say Fu trusts Gang in keeping Huan's overt hard rightism in check.

And Huan may as well think about that. If he expresses dissatisfaction with the vice presidential nominee - be it Gang or any other pro-establishment figure - he will basically confirm that the New Democratic Party is in the midst of a growing power struggle. This will neither serve his supporters nor his own agenda well. Currently, the New Democrats, in spite of recent gains, are still trailing behind the Popular Front, who will announce its candidate in less than a week. There is a time for either Huan or the establishment to tear the party apart, and it's not now.

Stock market drops once again after months of slow stabilization

The Esquarian City Stock Exchange
ESQUARIAN CITY, SOUTHERN NAMOR - Volatility is returning to the Namorese economy after stocks took a hit once more, with the Esquarian City Stock Exchange dropping by 370.61 points, its worst performance since the start of the year so far.

The stocks dropped after months of what some called a period of slow stabilization of the market. Since the free fall of September, President-General Fu vowed a "quick return to stability," although the public remains divided over whether his plan to save the market by encouraging brokers to buy more shares and discouraging significant shareholders from selling their stocks, which he coined "encouragement and discouragement," is working.

Analysts say the latest drop in Esquarian City will dilute public confidence in President-General Fu's policy and the Namorese economy at large. It remains to be seen where the stock market will go from here, and how a return to instability may affect the ruling party's standing in the coming general election.

Gang Yuching named vice presidential nominee of New Democrats, Lee named new party leader
New Democratic Party calls Gang "an unifying figure"

Gang Yuching is Huan An's running mate

NGHENH NGHENH, ANTELOPIA - It is official: former Hoy Phong mayor Gang Yuching will run alongside New Democratic presidential candidate Huan An as the vice presidential nominee.

The announcement was made this morning, as the fourth and last day of the New Democratic National Convention in Nghenh Nghenh opened. The 82 year-old mayor was seen alongside Huan An and President-General Fu, who announced yesterday that Vice President Derrick Lee will replace him as party chairman.

"After lengthy consideration, we decided that Mayor Gang is the man for the job and will run for Vice President on behalf of our party," the President-General said. "I've known Gang for many years, and not only is he a friend of mine, he is a competent person who gets things done and gets this party together. That is exactly the kind of personality our party needs, and that the position of Vice President requires."

Huan said he is supportive of the party's nomination of Gang, brushing aside rumors that he is at odds with the party establishment's decision.

"The party has made a wise decision, and I will stick with it. I look forward to working with Mayor Gang throughout the remainder of my campaign," he said.

Gang reciprocated and said he is ready to serve as Namor's next vice president and is anticipating a win for Huan An and the New Democrats.

In regards to Derrick Lee's ascension to party chairmanship, President-General Fu Wen says he does not plan on leading the party after leaving office in April, expressing his hopes that Lee can "lead the party in the right direction."

Ur-Ninturta Street after the attack.

BREAKING NEWS: Bombing on Ur-Ninturta Street leaves 12 dead, 20 injured
Earlier today, at roughly 12 PM, a bomb exploded on the southern end of Ur-Ninturta Street in downtown Ashuragar. The bomb, hidden in a food cart outside a clothing store, killed twelve bystanders, as well as injuring twenty more. Authorities were alerted of the attack a few minutes after the bomb went off. Police at the scene are still unsure of the culprit’s identity, although they suspect the culprit was connected with the Pisdari Front for Islamic Values (PFIV), a Salafist and separatist political party campaigning in the current election.

“Of course, that can change the more we have on the suspect” Said police deputy Mathias Getsen. “We don’t know the attacker’s motivations and influences, although we have informed the PFIV that we suspect a member or supporter may be involved”. Getsen also stated that the police does not currently know the attacker’s motivation. More information as the situation continues.

"I Don't Know Our Party Anymore"
Editorial by Jacob Connors, Former State Premier

The recent attempts at so-called "reform" by the current State administration is a complete and utter disgrace to the Revolutionary ideals of Jarrod Thuman Thought.

There, I said it.

I'm honestly surprised more people didn't say it. Premier Zheng Zhuli used his bloc within the Central Committee of the Party itself to steamroll over all sorts of Revolutionary Tradition, morals, rights, and history committed by the All-Union Libertarian Party in the course of almost twenty years. Now, de facto, the Party means nothing. This is less than three years when the Great Leader, suffering in what turned out to be the last of illness, declared the Party as an "eternal vanguard of the Revolution and the People".

And it's gone. Zheng Zhuli says it will be gone only "temporarily" and we will, one day, restore the Party to its former glory, but we all know that is a lie.

Today, as a matter of fact, Zheng is going to get in bed with the Namorese government and endorse Huan An for President-General.

The Great Leader would've never tolerated this.

That's why myself, and fifty-three others in the Assembly of the People are going to tender our resignations from the AULP, effective midnight, tonight (20 January). We will form a new party out of the ashes of the AULP, until Premier Zheng can convince me that the Party will not exist as a hollow shell of itself, subservient to the State government.

We will strive for true Jahisticism, not this watered down Statist Libertarianism you're currently seeing peddled. We will be a true Party of the People, and I hope the world will join us.

All hail the Chief: the new President takes office
Image
The new President, Sera Svensson

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Today, the second female President in national history, and the first non-Whig President since 1988, Sera Svensson has officially taken office, becoming the leader of the free world. After Svensson swore the Presidential Oath in her native Swedish language, she embarked on her inauguration speech, which is based on the theme of "A New Birth of Freedom," to symbolize her commitment to not only change the country's negative reputation in the international community, but to ensure that Luziyca will become less imperialistic.

The new President, Sera Svensson began her speech after swearing the oath by saying these words: "For decades, Luziyca has had a negative reputation in international affairs. We were considered to be warmongers, imperialists, and hostile. We made a lot of mistakes when it comes to foreign relations, and it is clear that the title, this Leader of the Free World title, is completely and utterly hollow in the face of it, especially over the past several decades."

"We need a new birth of freedom," she explained, "one that will ensure that the age-old title will actually have legitimate meaning. We need to ensure that our country becomes what we preach. We need to help the poor, end all vestiges of racial discrimination, implement stronger environmental protections, and to end the death penalty for all but the most serious offenses. We need to make it a country for all Luziycans, not just the 1%. We want to ensure that every Luziycan, whether they are Slavic, Swedish, Lombardian, Geadish, Namorese, or anyone else... every person in our country will be equal under the law, no matter where they are in our country."

"However, we cannot expect change to happen instantly," Svensson warned. "It will take a lot of time, and it will take a lot of effort. We will face plenty of challenges along the way, but God willing, we shall succeed in our goal to ensure that Luziyca by 2020, will become a responsible power, a responsible global power which can be trusted all across the globe." She then concluded, "Thus, over the next four years, we will experience a lot of changes to ensure that our country shall become better off in the long term, not just domestically, but internationally as well. Let's face it: the whig and the mask... they are... OFF."

The inauguration ceremony was attended by 3 million people, and it was estimated that 55% of viewers tuned in to witness the inauguration of Sera Svensson as the thirtieth President of the Christian Republic of Luziyca, succeeding Breuvi Shjoraski. The world's eyes will be turned upon her, and what she will do next. She has a lot of pressure, both from the international community, and from other countries to live up to her role in the global community.

Before Shjoraski left Bethlehem for Danzig, he stated to reporters at the airport terminal that, "I wish her the best of luck in the Presidential Palace, and I hope that Luziyca may be more friendlier and amiable to other countries in four years."

Recession "Progressing Less Seriously than Expected", Says Economics Minister
Image
Minister of Economics Carlos Xavier, pictured early January 2016
In light of the recent 370.61 point decline in the Esquarian City Stock Exchange and revived economic woes in Pavonistade, Minister of Economics Carlos Xavier states that Pavonistade is on a far road to economic recovery.

More than two weeks have passed since the Q4 2015 report was publicized. It documented that the Pavonistadian economy contracted by 0.3%, compared to a 0.4% decline of Q3 2015 and a 0.2% decline of Q2 2015. In addition a net loss of 26,200 jobs is recorded, though less than the projected loss of 32,000. However Minister Xavier announced, "Recession statistics were nevertheless indicative of improvements as it [the recession] is progressing less seriously than expected."

His announcement also comes in spite of the Vadopolitan Stock Exchange dropping by 310.48 points to 10,648.75. Minister Xavier said he has confidence that "the overall economy will be in better shape this year, through various approaches and improving policies."

Ocelotians Mark One Year After the January Coup
Image
Governor-President Howard Miten speaking
of post-coup recovery
Less than two months before Ocelotians celebrate the second anniversary of their country's formal independence, they will first mark the grim anniversary of the Ocelotian coup that took place on January 19, 2015.

Starting in the dawn of January 19, the Ocelotian armed police under control of Alexei Spalin and then-Police Commissioner Frederick Vive seized federal institutions and nearly all government offices in a matter of hours. Spalin and Vive, both having planned the coup for some time, replaced the civilian government with a military junta. In the days to follow, the junta suppressed demonstrators and managed to alienate even Ocelotian independence supporters, before it was dismantled by an invading international coalition.

At least 2400 casualties were recorded in the course of the war. Although the junta was eliminated in over a week, further damages were made to Ocelotian infrastructure and the economy (best-case estimates put damages at $750 million). The coup and the war changed post-independence Ocelot Isles, such as affecting the creation of Sinhako and hopes in rebuilding the economy. Ocelotians would undeniably need to look back at those that perished before looking forward to their independence.

New President of Luziyca and Liberal Party to Take Power
Image
President-elect Sera Svensson. Her replacement of Breuvi
Shjoraski is now imminent.
The Christian Republic of Luziyca is close to swearing in a new president. As Breuvi Shjoraski prepares to leave office, the inauguration will allow many to remember some important marks that would be made this year.

When Sera Svensson takes her oath of office and commences her presidency, she will be the second female president in Luziycan history, following the steps of Phoebe Wilhelm. She will also be the first non-Whig president since 1988 and the first Liberal president since 1976. The replacement of 28 years of Whig rule already led to many predictions about her presidential moves and effects of her policies. Svensson will also have to face economic challenges as many Esquarian countries report recessions, stock market plunges, or downturns.

After the Luziycan election revealed Svensson and the Liberal Party to be victors, Pavonistadian President Yksteldehs Oppenheim phoned the former President-elect on their victories and phoned Shjoraski to offer condolences. It is expected that President Oppenheim will repeat his message while Ocelotian Governor-President Howard Miten will speak in regards to the Luziycan inauguration. This election already has noticeable effects in Pavonistade, as support for the Pavonistadian Liberal Party gradually increased.

-DEVELOPING- PAVONISTADE TO LIMIT TRADE WITH NEVANMAA
"Decent consideration must be done," Oppenheim proclaimed

Date: January 20, 2016

Image
President Yksteldehs Oppenheim confirms that Pavonistade
will "not hestitate to sanction countries with severely
questionable policies and motions."
There is increased worry for the country's economy and foreign relations after President Yksteldehs Oppenheim promulgated an act to impose trade restrictions on Nevanmaa. This would begin the process to reinstate restrictions that were abolished on January 1, 2002.

The Nevan Trade Restrictions Act was tabled by Minister of Economics Carlos Xavier on December 28 of 2015. Under the bill, capital investment and trading of arms, luxury goods, and other certain items are would be restricted. Minister Xavier did not deny the possibility of negative economic consequences.

He nevertheless stated, "These consequences mean little when compared to Nevan abuses, discrimination, and negligence to change them. [...] indeed we must take action instead of simply using words, even if there are risks of retaliation."

The Parliament voted on the Nevan Trade Restrictions Act on Monday January 18. The bill was passed 329 to 90, not including 17 abstentions. Opposition primarily came from the Republican, Conservative, and Domination Parties as they criticized possible damage on trade opportunities and diplomatic relations. The necessity of economic sanctions was also questioned, but the bill passed the third reading and was transferred to the President for the executive decision.

President Oppenheim promulgated the act at 12:00 noon in Eastern Pavonistadian Time, leading to the first sanctions against Nevanmaa in over a decade. In regards to the promulgation, the President mentioned, "In the face of persistent degrading prejudice and unfair democracy, Pavonistade will be a country that will not hestitate to sanction countries with severely-questionable policies and motions, while remaining within reason. Decent consideration must be done by a civilized country."

Pavonistade currently maintains trade restrictions on several states, though establishing such restrictions after a period of embargo-less trade is something rather new in contemporary Pavonistadian history.

Harcourt Eban served as Ambassador to Francilie in the 1990s. He currently practices trade law in Wrycova. Among his clients are Cedarbrookese grain exporters and construction companies,
and Francilien and Sandhelm corportations. He is a frequent contributor to The Bexley Review of Conitian Affairs

Events surrounding the future of the Esquarian Union, both before and after the recent election of Sera Sevensson to the Luziycan Presidency have raised many questions in The Kramden as to what a potential merger of the EU and EC would hold for the nation. Although the main focus of Cedarbrookese interest and trade remains on the continent and in the South Central basin, a review of these developments is in order. EU Speaker Joseph Daskalov startled many in and around External Affairs with his merger with the Esquarian Community, on the grounds of reducing redundancy and increasing co-operation between liberal democratic nations in Esquarium. In Luziyca, outgoing President Breuvi Shjoraski criticized the proposal, explaining that "the EC is far too intrusive compared to the EU," and cited the fact that the EC requires all members to use a proportional system to elect their MEPs. He also stated that "the fact that the EU is more rightist compared to the EC is concerning, especially to the leftist members in the EC." Luziyca's newly inaugurated Sera Svensson was more accepting of Daskalov's proposal, saying that "for too long, the EU has been seen globally as an organization of Luziycan imperialism and puppetry. No more. The EU and the EC will need to merge sooner, rather than later, and should Daskalov's proposal get approved in the Esquarian Congress, Luziyca shall begin the process of joining the EC, regardless of whether an agreement has officially been made or not." This followed on the heels of Pavonistade President Oppenheim's veto of a proposed Pavonistadian exit (or Pexit) from the Esquarian Union. President Oppenheim cited such an exit as being a "slap in the face" to Luziycan foreign policy. Some at External Affairs view the Daskalov proposal as pulling the rug out from under Oppenheim, since Oppenheim went to bat to save EU membership in general support of Luziycan policy, a policy which may be undergoing metamorphosis as President Sevensson takes the helm in Bethlehem.

The main drivers in the EU and EC, Ainin and Luziyca respectively, are among the most important off-continent trade partners of the Kramden. Ainin is the 4th largest trade partner for West Cedarbrook, and this has developed over the years through normal commerce, and in the absence of multilateral agreements between the two nations, with the exception of both being members of the OEN. Luziyca weighs in at 9th among Cedarbrookese trade partners, a position that has improved since Cedarbrookese membership in the Greenwich Area and the multilateral South Central security pact inked last year. Overall though, such a merger will not have much change with respect to relations with our on-continent partners. The top three, The United Republics, Montezelo, and Masseau have close cooperation in the financial, transportation, and communications realms. All are members of the SOE. The Kramden and The United Republics share a mutual defense agreement. The Kramden and Montezelo's transportation networks are closely integrated, free trade with our western neighbor dates to the 1961 agreement, and both Montezelo and Masseau are members of the Antarctic Treaty Commission. Cedarbrookese consumers are also used to seeing Vitorian, East Cortoguayan, and Osonian goods in our stores, distrubtion centers and
factories, and these neighbors also make up a significant amount of trade.

What would a merged EU/EC look like given the balance of power in Western Esquarium, and what impact would this have on life in the Kramden? I don't think there would be a noticable change in the Cedarbrookese way of life if there were to be such a merger. It is not incumbent that The Kramden join an expanded EC, given it's EU obserer status by dint of Greenwich Area membership. At this time the benefits of Greenwich accession have been baked into policy among the member states: visa requiements have been abolished and they would not be reinstated for Greenwich signatories, in my opinion, and members of the Greenwich Area do not have tariffs applied to products in member countries. Given current sentiment in the business community here and in the other Greenwich members, it is doubtfull that tariffs would be reinstated. Greenwich membership has been a solid benefit to Cedarbrookese consumers and businesses, and that has become common knowledge at External Affairs, in the Senate, and with a large segment of public opinion. The supranational organs of the EU, namely the International Criminal Court, Supreme Court of the Esquarian Union, and the Esquarian Commission have no bearing on Cedarbrookese jurisprudence outside of singular requests, and it is expected that their successors in a merged EC would continue such status. For the sake of argument it will be interesting to see how the merger of these and their EC counterparts takes place, and I'm sure this will be a large part of any merger negotiations. Looking at the possibilities of this merger, it is hard to imagine how such an organization would move forward with a coherent policy. The recent turn in Luziycan policy may be attributed to the CIA fiasco in Ocidenia. There were indications late in the Breuvi Shjoraski of a turn away from the more agressive adventures of the CIA. Observers here have pointed out that last year's South Central security pact was a tentative step forward toward a more open engagement with Eastern Esquarian market oriented democracies. Whether this move was done with the assent or in the face of CIA hard liners has been open to debate, but with the election of Ms. Sevensson it appears that Bethlehem is turning toward an opening with Eastern Esquarian democracies, among others. Yet, within Ainin there remains deep suspicion of Luziycan motives. Recent polling, before last year's Luziycan presidential elections showed the Aininian public having a 63% negaive opinion of Luziyca, compared to only 11% positive. Such differences are not easily overcome, and such suspicions would be a factor in the direction of a combined EC. I would expect that the expansion of the EC would do litle to change the military balance of power in the West: Ainin has the means to project it's power, and although it is used sparingly, it is almost always decisive and overwhelming. It has a reputation for dependability, as contrasted to what is seen by many in the diplomatic community to Luzyican fickleness, given the example of it's recent activities in the complicated Qianrongese situation. Indeed, it could be said that at this time, any meaningful combined EC action would be dependent on Aininian direction. It would be up to President Sevensson to put forth an effort to dispel such a view. At this time, other developments in the West share the attention of the business community and External Affairs. The precipitous drop in the stock market in Esquarian City is being watched closely all across Esquarium, as Namor continues deeper into the election season to pick a successor to President-General Fu Wen. The President-General has been viewed favorably by the Feld administraion, particularly by Vice President Paula Davidoff, and trade with Namor has improved in the wake of Fu-Wen's policy of detente with Luziyca. A concern of exporters is that the falling stock market in Namor will trigger a depression there, reducing opportunities in the developing nation, and possibly causing it to turn inward. This has caused analysts to take a closer look at changes announced in Uniola, where a more open policy by that nation's leader, Zheng Zhuli, may be a portent of investment and sales opportunities in a region largely untapped by Cedarbrookese business. Mr. Zhuli, speaking to the Assembly of the People, said "Ever since the death of the Great Leader, we are in a power vacuum. We have gone through three paramount leaders in the span of two years. So, to consolidate power until the Union can get on its feet, I am executing a plan to reform the system of government over the next couple of months. I will not do anything without the permission of this body and I will not do anything without the consent of the People. We, as a country and as a movement, need to get back on its feet." The scope of Mr. Zhuli's plans, both in domestic and foreign policy are as yet unkonwn, but his pronouncements have received significant pushback from supporters of Jacob Connors. He accused Connors of "being against (Voluntarism-Capitalism-Jarrod Thuman Thought)." Zheng promoted ideas like a collective Head of State and multi-party elections in his Twitter opine. The most significant activity of a Western power as of late has been the frayed relations with Nevanmaa in the wake of last year's anarchy and subsequent Cedarbrookese police action in Lecistan. The Kramden has maintained formal relations with the Neval Realm, but they have been cooling since the Lecistan crisis, and the subsequent Nevan announcement of stationing a nuclear arsenal in Filimons. Many here are still perplexed regarding Nevan ambitions in Conitia, and were dismayed as the Nevan monarch presided over Lecistan falling into anarchy last year. The concerns have been contained to the diplomatic and military domains, with no fall of in trade with Nevanmaa since last year's crisis.

With regard to Cedarbrookese membership in an expanded EC, there is little doubt that this is not an issue. Few in External Affairs can forget the firestorm in 1993 when the Leibowitz Administration floated a trial baloon to the Senate Liberal Conference. Then Secretary of External Affairs Arnold Cohen recalls not leaving his office for 48 hours, having to answer complaints from the Senate External Affairs Committee. The case for Cedarbrookese membership in such a supranational organization has been welded shut ever since. Constitutional experts have to a man agreed that such accession would require a massive rewrite of the Basic Laws of the Kramden under the Constitution, a change where even the legal procedure for raising such a proposal is murky. Any such proposition would find the nation engulfed in a tidal wave of isolationism, which all responsible parties agree is not practical or prudent in this age. Instead, both Conservative and Libertarian leaders point to positive relations with both Luziyca and Ainin, the leading powers of an expanded EC, as refuting the need for membership. Relations with Conitian democracies are solid, and The Kramden is a major contributor to the SOE. I believe that the long term bipartisan doctrine of a policy in concert with the Latin bloc, and recognition of The United Republics as "Rosh HaLatinim", the Chief of the Latins, has served The Kramden well since it's inception in the mid-1950's, and will continue to deliver benefits throughout the continent and in the South Central, guiding friendly relations with EC members on both a bilateral and multilateral basis, without the restriction of EC membership.

Shohai Antelope wins nomination as moderates prevail in battle for Popular Front
January 22, NMR 2378

presidential election

Shohai Antelope will run for President-General on behalf of the
Popular Front
PO'AI, WEST NAMOR - The results of the latest nationwide poll taken by the Popular Front are out - Liberationist Party Secretary-General Shohai Antelope won the Popular Front presidential primary with 45 percentage points.

Antelope was closely followed by the Socialist Party's Tao James with 41 percentage points. Democratic Socialist candidate Namsa Singho ended last with only 14 percentage points.

When it was founded last October, the Popular Front agreed to determine its presidential nominee by conducting a nationwide poll among registered supporters of the Front. Polling began in January 10 and lasted ten days before ending in January 20, when the Popular Front's national convention in Po'ai began.

The primary initially began as a four-way race between Shohai Antelope, Namsa Singho, Tao James and Gongchan Zhushi. But in a move that boosted support for Tao, Gongchan - a fellow Socialist - dropped out of the race, allowing Socialist Party supporters to stand behind the 72 year-old defector from occupied Nantai.

For months, Shohai Antelope had to reckon with Tao James' surging popularity. From November to December, Tao was the Popular Front frontrunner, sometimes leading the polls by a 10 point margin. But support for Tao eventually declined as the new year began in what some analysts said was the anticipated shift away from more radical candidates to moderate ones. This shift benefited Antelope, a member of what some call Namor's most powerful political family and a candidate in the NMR 2373 election.

in a bitter concession to Shohai Antelope.

Long Jiao-che, No.2 in the Liberationist Politburo Standing
Committee, was named Shohai Antelope's running mate

But Namsa Singho, who was Vice President during Kaitlyn Khan's presidency and is a veteran politician, did not benefit from the shift. His campaign was marked with various difficulties, from finance problems to low support even among supporters of the DemSoc Party, many of whom view him as uninspiring.

Antelope's victory was celebrated by supporters who shouted slogans while parading the streets of Po'ai. The nominee himself was present at the celebrations.

"The primary is over. Let's focus on the actual election. There are many challenges that lie ahead," Antelope said in his first speech as nominee. "Let every one of us - Liberationists, Socialists and Democratic Socialists alike - join hands and fight this battle together. A little unity can go a long way in getting the New Democrats out of Namo."

Both Tao James and Namsa Singho conceded defeat. "This is not a loss, but a victory for all the Popular Front, regardless of party. We may not agree one hundred percent with Deputy Antelope, but I tell you he's the alternative that Namor needs," said Tao.

Namsa Singho looked very bitter as he faced supporters following Antelope's victory, having performed poorly in almost every single poll.

"I would like to congratulate Deputy Antelope for winning the Popular Front nomination. May he lead voters in the right direction. As for us, the Democratic Socialists are a resilient party and I am a resilient person. As we pledge to have Shohai's back, let's focus on winning big in the legislative election."

Despite the convention's contentious location near occupied territory, authorities reported that no major incidents occurred before or after Antelope's nomination. However, Po'ai police did arrest a heckler who identified himself as a conspiracy theorist and attended a rally of Namsa Singho supporters, stating there that Namsa does not do well in "real life elections" either.

Developing Police Investigates Beating Death of Woman in Aubergine Town

Image
Kongeuvia police investigate reports of a
deadly beating of a woman, several blocks
away from the Raksaka outpost.
Panic arises in an otherwise-undisturbed neighbourhood of the town of Aubergine, after local police received reports of a beating of a woman. After responding to the calls, officers began investigating the corpse of a woman found east of the Dasta Andolana outpost of Raksaka, believed to be the same beating victim. There is additional worry because some witnesses report the suspects to be Shudri.

Chief Constable James Garriger of the Aubergine Police Department reported that the suspects have yet to be arrested, although multiple witnesses were present. Garriger stated that the woman, in her early 20s, was simultaneously beaten and dragged, and her body was left in a front lawn two blocks northwest of the beating scene.

Several 9/11 calls were received at around 2:38 pm, all of which detail two "colored men beating a young woman with wooden baseball bats" and asked for emergency services. The scene supposedly occurred near the intersection of Ridgecastle Avenue and Matteryork Street. The calls to emergency services were delayed as the witnesses, in the open at the time of the beating, feared reprisals for any kind of intervention.

Fifteen minutes after police and paramedics arrived, they were notified of the discovery of a body two blocks northwest of Ridgecastle & Matteryork. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at scene, while the police called in a homicide investigation team. The police then proceeded with interviewing witnesses and speaking with bystanders around the scene.

Among the first witnesses to speak to the police was Aubergine resident Tom Sagro, who said, "What basically happened was that two Shudris repeatedly beat the woman and dragged her by the collar, letting her to brutally suffer from the beating. [...] They [the suspects] were armed with weapons, yet I'm shameful to let these criminals get away." Other than Sagros was Marta Wilson who recalled "her [the woman] crying out in agony as she was relentlessly attacked" and that everyone "was too terrified to immediately contact the authorities." All witnesses agree that the suspects did not show much humanity for the victim.

Despite reports and witness acounts identifying the suspects as Shudri, Chief Constable Garriger and the Aubergine Police Department have not yet confirmed such details. They did however state that the suspects were not Caucasian and would soon be cooperating with the Internal Ministry due to "special interests in the Aubergine case." But for now Garriger announced, "The Aubergine Police Department believes it is best not to disclose further information until there is thorough confirmation."

Should speculations be correct that the suspects are Shudri, this would be the first time in Ocelotian-Sinhakese history that a Shudri-perpetrated wrongdoing has resulted in death. Police stated that the identity of the woman will not be released until family members are contacted.

The Commoner Mandate
(Тонгджин Дарен)

24th Day of the 1st Month
2,378th year of the Namorese Calendar

Opinion: Our future is in continental integration
In a time of crisis, the Popular Front wants Namor to look inward. I want the opposite.

As a New Democrat, I would love to indulge in the optimism displayed by our President-General during his last State of the People's Republic address. Fu said Namor is headed in the right direction, and the recent economic disturbance is just a passing moment in history. He is mostly right, but deep inside me I know that we are still in a dire situation. At any time, what happened back in September may happen again. And if it happens, it will undeniably affect the outcome of the March election.
Image
Huan An, New Democratic presidential
candidate

No one regardless of political affiliation can deny that our economy has slowed. No one can deny that if Namor's economy is not adjusted for the better, the rest of the world will share the burden that befalls all of us. Instead of spending our time discussing how our economy's been in the past months, we should be spending time engaging in constructive dialogue about what Namor can do to change the situation for the better. We've already examined the problems - now let's examine the solutions.

The Popular Front's dangerous isolationist mindset

The Popular Front left thinks it has a solution. Nominee Shohai Antelope said he wants to "protect national industries and workers" and reduce Namor's dependency on other countries. The left is assuming, of course, that increased trade with other countries will make Namor more vulnerable during a time of economic crisis.

This reasoning is faulty, and is an example of the left's dangerous isolationist mindset. Protectionism may, as the name suggests, protect Namor's industries, but it will not protect Namorese consumers from crisis. All economists agree that trade barriers are anathema to trade, and the only way to bring the world out of recession is by encouraging people to buy and countries to trade. If you introduce protectionist policies, then you are reducing our chances of mitigating economic troubles.

Continental integration is the answer

Back in the November debate, I proposed that Namor and all the other countries in the Velkias unite together and form an economic union. All the countries would reduce all trade barriers with each other, allowing the free movement of people and goods between countries.

I am increasingly convinced that this continental integration is the answer to our current economic woes. Namor isn't the only country that needs a route out of this crisis; other countries like Chorea, Luziyca and Scotia are struggling to recover as soon as possible. Countries in this continent need each other more than ever, and it's about time they reach a hand out to each other if they're genuinely interested in putting a stop to economic turbulence.

Namor is not a loser in this free trade scheme by any stretch of the imagination. It will be easier for Namorese workers to find jobs, be it here or overseas. Namorese businesses can freely operate in other countries, benefiting other countries as well as ours'. Foreign businesses can do the same. In the end of the day, everyone wins.

Obviously, my plan for continental economic integration has unsettled the Popular Front, from which screams of endangering Namorese sovereignty and industries can be heard. But I suspect the left is more interested in viewing other countries with suspicion than actually finding solutions to bring us out of the precarious situation we are in right now. Regardless, it's clear that our future lies in continental integration, and if there's one thing Namor doesn't do in a time like this, it's looking inward.

Huan An's views do not represent those of the Commoner Mandate.

Svensson to extradite Anisim to Namor
Image
Valeriy Anisim at a speech in Frontiersburg

FRONTIERSBURG, UPPER YORK - After being arrested on November 29th for "tax evasion" it has become clear that Valeriy Anisim, as well as his predecessor, OGIE President Yorskov Lhego, have orchestrated terrorism within Namor since 1970. Therefore, it was decided to extradite them, as well as some high-level officials implicated in orchestrating terrorist attacks in Namor.

The new President, Sera Svensson explained that "As I promised to the Namorese when I took office, the OGIE will no longer be a thorn in the side of Namo-Luziycan relations. To that end, we have decided to extradite Lhego, Anisim, and several other high-ranking OGIE officials to Namor so they can be tried for terrorism. For too long, we have tolerated terrorism against our neighbors, especially within the northwestern region. Now that I have taken over, it is clear that to further advance detente, we need to transfer those who have orchestrated the attacks to Namor, so that they can be tried and punished there."

She also told reporters that "Luziyca will no longer support the cause of 'Otekian independence,' especially in the manner that the OGIE had promoted it for many generations. The only separatism we will support will be one that involves the will of the people, that involves bilateral negotiations, and one that is non-violent, and therefore, we will provide moral support to the ONC, but only moral support."

The decision to extradite Lhego and Anisim was widely controversial, with acting leader of the Whig Party, Mary Sokolova saying that "At the very least, we should try them ourselves. In Namor, it is clear that it will be rigged to ensure that they will be imprisoned for the rest of their lives. But it is clear that this action will alienate the Otekians from us, and it may be possible that the remnants of the OGIE might declare holy war against us."

In Gijirokastra, 285,000 protesters converged at the Square of Nations, demanding that Sera Svensson reconsider her "ill-thought decision." Among the protesters was National Luziycan Party leader, Narsete La Via, who said, "The fact that we are treating Lhego and Anisim like dogs is a travesty against our country. To toss them aside because they outlived their usefulness is completely inhuman, and I am ashamed of Svensson for extraditing them to Namor."

In Frontiersburg, there have been protests, primarily by older Otekian refugees, but some who are younger as well, criticizing the decision to extradite them and accusing Svensson of "strangling Otekian independence," and accusing her of being pro-Namor, with even Natasha Roman stating that "while they deserve to be tried for what they have done in Namor, our government seems to have stabbed us in the back. But we must continue to go to the table, we must continue to negotiate, and hopefully, a suitable outcome can be reached."

More as the story develops.

Developing Aubergine Police Arrest Suspects, Reveal Identities of Victim and Suspects

Image Image Image
The Aubergine Police Department released the identity of the victim as well as the two suspects.
From left to right: Andrea Mirski, Yakuba Cora, Yuhanna Cora
The Aubergine Police Department announced that they have arrested two suspects that are possibly responsible for beating a woman to death yesterday. Chief Constable James Garriger stated that police forces apprehended two Shudri men in the Jaituna outpost after they were tipped off about their behaviour.

After the suspects were arrested, the Aubergine Police Department revealed the identity of the woman and the two suspects. The homicide investigation team identified the woman as Andrea Mirski, an age-21 college student regarded to have relatives in Aubergine. The two suspects are Yakuba Cora, 37, and Yuhanna Cora, 36, both of which are cousins that lived in Lombardia before immigrating to Sinhako. Mirski's identity was not disclosed until family members and relatives were notified of her death.

Several Shudris and Ocelotians in Jaituna and neighbouring Aubergine tipped off the police about two Shudri men of similar height, according to the Aubergine Police Department. The tips reported of "strange moves" as the Shudris crossed from Raksaka into Jaituna. It is noted that one of the men was carrying a baseball bat and believed there was a "potential for aggression" involving the men. At approximately 11 am, dispatched police cruisers located the Coras.

Police officers claimed that the two Coras began sprinting in an attempt to escape. However it was only around five minutes later that the suspects were trapped two blocks northwest of their original position and then apprehended. As the men were handcuffed, both police and bystanders said that Yakuba Cora shouted, "It was merely self-defense!"

During early interrogation, Chief Constable Garriger announced that the Coras claimed they were pursued, harassed, and abused by the woman due to their Shudri backgrounds. The Coras also claimed that they brought their baseball bats for a planned game in the afternoon, and were used "as a last resort for personal defense." Many witness accounts however claimed that there was no significant harassment perpetrated by the woman and that the violence was not self-defense.

Garriger stated that both Yakuba and Yuhanna Cora may be charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon, but the former charge may be replaced with first-degree murder if further interrogation makes it necessary.

Vehement condemnation of murder of Andrea Mirski

The angel that departed us too soon

PRASANTA, SINHAKO - With the murder of Andrea Mirski by Yakuba Cora and Yuhanna Cora, social media has been abuzz with details of the crime. Rightists have advocated #NoToShudri, and demanding that the government take action against the Shudri who have migrated to Sinhako due to these criminals. A very furious Helga Duta spoke in a televised speech condemning the murder.

Helga Duta said, "Words do not describe how furious I am with this brutal killing of Andrea Mirski. Andrea Mirski was a person with a future, a person who had high hopes before those two gyps decided to take away her life. I do not care if she brought it upon herself, or if she did not, but those two men savagely beat her to death. Yakuba Cora and Yuhanna Cora, you two are a disgrace to Sinhako. You, polluted scum, you bring upon this community a bad name, and you give those who oppose Sinhako every reason to take revenge against you. You must pay for what you have done to her!"

"On behalf of Sinhako," she explained, tears flowing from her eyes, "we send our condolences to the friends and relatives of Andrea Mirski, and we have high hopes that this inhuman crime does not happen again. If you come to Sinhako, you need to co-operate with your Ocelotian neighbors! If you want to bring hostility and discord, you can stay where you are because Sinhako shall not tolerate hostility and discord!"

Throughout Sinhako, many Shudri residents have condemned the brutal murder, with flags being at half-staff in many areas of the country. Even leader Johannes Sikari of the Dasta Andolana condemned it, saying that "this brutal murder is never a good sign, and we hope that the Cora's are brought to justice." However, the dasta and the border crossings are at a state of emergency readiness, due to concerns for a potential revenge attack on them.

LUZIYCA EXTRADITES OGIE LEADERS
New president Sera Svensson banishes Valeriy Anisim, who was detained in November for alleged tax evasion
Some say extradition meant to affect upcoming elections

Front convention nominated the Liberationist Party leader and fourth-generation

By Yu Vang | IT IS CLEAR Luziyca no longer welcomes the "Otekian government-in-exile" (OGIE). A few days after taking office, the newly-elected president, Sera Svensson, ordered the extradition of OGIE's "president," Valeriy Anisim, former "president" Yorskov Lhego and other "high-level officials implicated in orchestrating terrorist attacks in Namor," according to the Constitution.

Some saw it coming; last year in November, outgoing Luziycan president Breuvi Shjoraski and president-elect Svensson agreed to arrest OGIE's leadership. Anisim and several other leaders of the group were charged with tax evasion - an accusation that met widespread skepticism. Anisim's arrest led to speculations that Luziyca may intensify its campaign against Txotai separatists once Svensson take office. But even then, few thought an extradition was likely due to Luziyca's historically close ties with the ethnic Otekians in the country.

Svensson promptly defended the extradition, acknowledging Luziyca's role in propping up anti-Namor separatists.

"For too long, we have tolerated terrorism against our neighbors, especially within the northwestern region. Now that I have taken over, it is clear that to further advance detente, we need to transfer those who have orchestrated the attacks to Namor, so that they can be tried and punished there," she said.

The president said Luziyca will no longer support the Txotai separatists, but added that her administration will continue to provide "only moral support" to the "Otekian National Coalition (ONC)," OGIE's rival.

News of the extradition is received positively in Namor. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the extradition is a "victory for the Namorese people." Both presidential candidates Huan An and Shohai Antelope praised the extradition, with Huan noting that the extradition "shows détente [with Luziyca] is working." Txotai's Head of State Wei Siang said the extradition is "good news for Txotai: the beginning of the end of the separatist forces."

"Our policies are working + Our laws are working," Wei tweeted, referring to Namor's laws restricting separatist activities.

More than just an extradition?

As Namor is up in celebration, analysts say Luziyca's extradition of OGIE leaders is more than just an extradition of separatist criminals.

The extradition was announced less than two months before the upcoming general election in March 20, when millions of Namorese will elect a new President-General and Central Council. As things stand now, the Popular Front - a coalition of left-wing parties led by nominee Shohai Antelope - is expected to win both the presidency and legislature according to most polls. Parties in the Popular Front are critics of outgoing President-General Fu Wen's support for Namo-Luziycan detente. Antelope himself attended a mass anti-detente rally in east Po'ai in May NMR 2375, where he accused Fu of turning Namor into a Luziycan constituent republic and said Namor "had enough" of the detente process.

Namorese media was abuzz with speculations of a Luziycan effort to placate Namorese voters when Anisim was arrested in November; the The Liberator called the move a "last-ditch effort to save detente." Namo University professor Kiang Pi said "Luziyca is showing that it's willing to do anything to keep the relationship alive as it is, even if it means putting longtime Luziycan proxies behind bars."

But if Luziyca did indeed arrest Anisim to weaken Namorese detractors of detente, the effects were limited - the pro-detente New Democrats improved in the polls, but still trailed behind the Popular Front parties a month after the arrests. It remains to be seen whether Svensson's extradition of OGIE's leaders will produce the alleged desired effect: a win for the New Democrats.

"It might work, it might not, but it's certainly going to have a greater effect than simply arresting Anisim and the other leaders did," said Po'ai mayor Hai Min. "But obviously Luziyca is doing everything it can to improve its reputation among the Namorese electorate, particularly leftist voters who are less inclined to sympathize with Bethlehem."

Administration officials are already citing the extradition as an example of where improved relations with Luziyca may lead.

"None of this would have been possible if we didn't have open communication with the Luziycans," a spokesperson for the Executive House told a press junket. "It's a testament to what diplomacy can do."

But former President-General Alicia Wolf, in an interview with PTH, said the extradition will not prevent a Popular Front victory in the March election.

"The economy is the core issue in this election. Most Namorese are satisfied with the current course of Namo-Luziycan relations, but they are fed up with where the economy's headed. That's why they are supporting the Popular Front and not the New Democrats, whom they hold responsible for the September stock market crash and the ensuing turbulence," she said.

"To say the Popular Front and Shohai Antelope are 'anti-detente' or 'anti-Luziyca' is inaccurate. I'm sure the Popular Front understands the importance of diplomacy as much as the New Democrats do. They can and will adopt a pragmatic policy."

West Cedarbrook 1 Evening News
With David Haber

Finally tonight, in an unexpected move, Civil Supreme Court Justice Malka Leturneau's announcement of early retirement yesterday was met with a swift, and surprising nomination for the 89 year old jurist's replacement by President Feld this afternoon at Kramden House. In a late press briefing, President Feld disclosed his choice as successor for Justice Leturneau to be the General Solicitor of Counsel for Aleph UVD Software Development ie., Yosef Piast, 60 years her junior.

Image

The speed of the announcement and Piast's youth were a surprise to many in the Civil Supreme Court bar, and some Senators. It appears that President Feld and Solicior General Carlovsky had minimal contact with Senate committee members that will interview Mr. Piast. At this time no committee members had been reached for comment. There has been some grumbling among Libertarian and Independent List Senators about the second consecutive nomination of a corporate attorney without judicial experience to the high court under President Feld. Libertarian and Civic Alliance party leaders had no comment at this time, but there is some sentiment that the nominationof Mr. Piast could become an issue for the opposition parties, giving credence to their claims that the administration tilts too far toward large corporate interests. Others see it as a bid to fast track much needed expertise to the court in matters of intellectual property, possibly in response to criticism from the tech sector that the court is shy about taking up appeals on software litigation and patent infringement.

Mr. Piast is seen as somewhat of a wunderkind in the legal function of the tech sector, having graduated with dual B.A. and Masters in Civil Law from Salk University at the age of 19, after foregoing high school at 15 to pursue his legal studies. His personal pleading before the Port Yehoshua Civil Bar permitted him to sit for the Civil Bar Exam after graduation, two years earlier than the required age of 21. His energy and tireless efforts at negotiating and enforcing software patents at Aleph UVD propelled him to department manager for Litigation and Appeals five years ago, then taking over the entire legal operation three years ago. Mr. Piast comes from one of the most distinguised lines of Civil Jurists, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather Seeley Piast who served on the high court from 1946 to 1961, and his great-great-great Granfather Herschel Piast, who also served on the court from 1897 to 1916. In a brief statement at his Kramden House introduction, Mr. Piast told the press "I am deeply humbled by the opportunity presented to me by President Feld on behalf of the Cedarbrookese people to serve the Kramden. My wife and I discussed this intensely over the weekend, and decided together to accept the heavy responsibility of serving on the highest court of Civil Law in the land. Of course, we won't be in Wrycova overnight, her being in her 7th month, and we will miss the beach in Port Yehoshua. But she indicated that she'd expect to see more of me once I start serving at court." Aleph UVD CEO Nicole Stevens told West Cedarbrook 1 "We're sorry to lose such a brilliant legal mind to the Civil Supreme Court, but we're confident that President Feldmade the right choice. Yosef's had a rocket career, and it will be hard to fill his shoes. Still, the Kramden will be better off having him judge the most difficult and meaningful appeals"

Svensson must go! Svensson must go!

Protesters against Sera Svensson

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Days after LibeSera Svensson took the presidency, she is facing threats of impeachment following her decision to extradite top leaders of the Otekian government-in-exile to Namor. Despite attempts to placate Namorese voters to try and continue detente, Luziycans are already beginning to lose support for her leftist policies following the decision to extradite top OGIE leaders to Namor.

All across the country, Luziycans have been joining in protests demanding that Sera Svensson resign or investigate the accusations that the charges of tax evasion against the OGIE were fabricated. In Gijirokastra, it is estimated that one million people have converged onto the Square of Nations demanding that Sera Svensson admit that the charges are fabricated, and to resign from the Presidency.

A protester in Gijirokastra, aged 28 said that "Sera Svensson wants to turn our back on our Otekian brethren. We must send the world a message that no matter what she does, we will always support Otekian rights!"
An Otekian protester, wearing traditional Otekian dress and waving a flag, who appeared to be in his sixties said "Her policies seek to destroy our chances of returning home to Oteki, and for what? For the sake of having Luziyca lose its jobs to Namor and becoming a new AR? I want no part in that."

In Bethlehem, 250,000 people have gathered outside the Presidential palace, reiterating the same demands made in Gijirokastra. Similar solidarity protests have broken out in many cities throughout the country, but none so huge as in Frontiersburg, where the city has essentially stalled.

At protests in Frontiersburg, the Mayor, Delcho Uvarov said that "As residents of the cultural capital of the Otekian diaspora, both Otekians and Luziycans will stand side by side and proclaim that we oppose Svensson's plans to grow closer to Namor at the expense of Oteki. She has no right to violate our constitution and use the Otekians as sacrificial lambs for the idol of detente."
An elder protester chanted "DETENTE IS A FAILURE! END DETENTE NOW!"

The sentiments made by that protester in Frontiersburg have echoed throughout the nation, as more and more people criticized Luziyca's growing dependence on Namorese goods, and believing that detente has damaged Luziyca's ties to their Otekian community. Pressure is now growing on Sera Svensson to address it, leading her to make a televised speech.

On national television, and on the radio waves, Sera Svensson said that "It has come to the attention that there have been accusations, not just from Otekians, but Qianrongese and other nations that we have fabricated the charges against Anisim and the rest of the OGIE. While we have quietly dropped the tax evasion charges, we kept them in custody while we investigated the links to terrorist attacks in Namor. And... and it is clear that there is evidence that they have played a major role in terrorist attacks in Namor. This was why we have decided to send Anisim and Lhego to Namor to be tried there."

"However, we pledge to conduct a full investigation on the accusations that our government has fabricated charges on the OGIE," Svensson announced. "We want to ensure that we are more accountable to our people, as well as the rest of the world. Thus, we plan to ensure that every step of this process shall be released to the public, so to ensure that this is free and fair. We also invite the Esquarian Human Rights Monitor and the National Rights and Liberties Index to observe the process so to help reassure the public that we are being fair and transparent in the process. This should ideally restore confidence in our government when it comes to this extradition case."

Whether her announcement will be received positively remains to be seen.

Shudriphobic Protesters Gather Outside Ocelotian Parliament, Sinhako, Dastas

Image
Anti-Shudri protesters march down an
asphalt road near downtown Kongeuvia.
This exemplifies Shudriphobia around
Kongeuvia, Sinhako, and dastas.
In light of the beating death of Andrea Mirski and the arrest of Shudri suspects Yakuba and Yuhanna Cora, people have emerged to protest the presence of Shudri outside of the Ocelotian Parliament. Similar demonstrations, which focused on marches, were held around the borders of Sinhako and Dasta Andolana outposts.

Mirski's beating is the latest incident in a series of Ocelotian-Sinhakese violence, garnering condemnation from interim president Helga Duta, many Shudri, and many Ocelotians. Soon after the commencement of the Sinhako Project, there were widespread allegations of Ocelotian abuses against the Shudri before several notorious Shudriphobic terrorist attacks occurred. Starting in November 2015 there was a spike in Shudri-perpetrated incidents as well as Ocelotian-Sinhakese violence. The most notable issue prior to Mirski's death happened in the city of Sauva, where an Ocelotian gang beat two Shudri men and a Shudri boy.

The three main Shudriphobic demonstrations are currently estimated to have at least 1200 participants, many of which are concentrated in protests around the Ocelotian Parliament while it was in session. Protest coordinator Xavier Zaduuk, operating in Aubergine (where Andrea Mirski was beaten to death), believed that "[p]eople are now realizing that the presence of Sinhako and the Shudri are doing more damage than good to the Ocelot Isles." Zaduuk's protests is part of the congregation of demonstrators targeting the dasta district of Gadha.

Many protesters stood on the Ocelotian side at the Sinhakese borders. Numerous signs were held to attack what was perceived as improper control of Shudri criminality and Ocelotian-Sinhakese travel, but the slogan "Stop dumping of the dirty Shudri" appeared mroe frequently than others. One of the leading protest coordinators was William Uleton who stood 50 metres from where a border checkpoint bombing occurred almost a year ago. He said that "there will be prejudicial feelings among our protests, but they are unavoidable in the greater opposition to the demeaning nature of the Shudri."

Conservative Party chairperson Joe Tagge supported the demonstrations against the Shudri, stating, "The Ocelotians are finally fed up with the Shudri problem and are calling upon their federal government to act further [...] it is time that we must listen to our citizens." Tagge however said that "the beating of Mirski, however gruesome and disgusting, must not be used to justify racism and discrimination." Coalitionist Party chairperson Alan Langen and Alternative for Ocelotians chairperson Patrick Duke were less forgiving, each respectively calling the Shudri "unruly civilians" and "drugged criminals."

This is a sign of growing momentum for Shudriphobia and the right-wing coalition that seemingly aims to marginalize Shudris. However there are also evidence of opposition to such momentum. Governor-President Howard Miten offered condolences to the Mirski family before condemning the Coras and the Shudriphobes. "The Coras have committed a terrible wrong, but so did the Shudriphobes who seek to paint every Shudri with the same deeds," stated Governor-President Miten. Activist Tomas Evuasgka also condemned the Shudriphobic demonstrations, calling them "damaging, misguided cries of racism." Prominent analyst Josef Hammock and the Ocelotian organization Rainbow Alliance were among the many people and entities that denounced the rapidly-mounting Shudriphobia that followed the death of Andrea Mirski.

Local law enforcement agencies, including the Aubergine Police Department, have dispatched officers to oversee peaceful passage of all demonstrations regardless of their nature. The Mirski family had requested on social media that they be given "time for privacy and mourning" before they comment publicly on Mirski's beating.

Andrea Mirski was a 21-year-old student enrolled in the Matteryork College in Kongeuvia. Details regarding Mirski are limited but it is posited that she was born in Oxen City in 1993 and she was aiming to major in human sciences.

Perpetrator of Ashuragar bombing arrested, set to go on trial within the month
Late yesterday, a police raid on a house in Kibkar were able to finally arrest 23-year old Ur Zizna, who is, according to police, to blame for the bombing in Ashuragar that killed 12 and injured 20 last week. Police stated that Zizna will be on trail hopefully by the end of the month.

Ur Zizna was a supporter of the separatist Pisdari Front for Islamic Values, although Zizna has stated he worked alone on the attack. Maybe believe Zizna will either be sentenced to a life in prison without parole, or execution for his actions.

Just two days from the territorial election, many in the campaign have expressed relief at Zizna’s capture. “Now we can campaign in peace, and don’t have to worry of anymore random attacks”, said Independence Party leader Babum Ishhi-Addu.

or deal with another split from the party.

Blaming the disastrous polling and loss of support on Governor Blank and his administration, a group of deputies for the National Party have called for Blank to resign as leader of the party after election.

“How can we go from almost forty percent in last year’s election to ten percent in polls? I can tell you!” Stated deputy Enmerkar Ibnatum. “Governor Blank has moved from gaffe to bad decision, and if he isn’t willing to relinquish power after Thursday’s election, me and my colleagues will have no choice but to leave the party and form a new grouping”.

The ruling right-wing National Party has seemed to unsuccessfully challenge both a rising Independence Party, and the new right-wing Movement for an Islamic Pisdara.

OGIE LEADERS ARRESTED UPON ARRIVAL IN NAMOR
Charged with terrorism and treason, trial date to be determined

Image
Valeriy Anisim taken into custody by police upon arriving in Namor
Txotai - This morning, top leaders of the so-called "Otekian government-in-exile" (OGIE), among them Valeriy Anisim and Yorskov Lhego, arrived at Kusef International Airport. Upon arrival, they were arrested at the order of the regional prosecutor for committing acts of terrorism and treason against the People's Republic of Namor.

Regional prosecutor Zang Vupei awaited the separatists as they stepped from the plane.

"On behalf of the government of the People's Republic of Namor and the Autonomous Republic of Txotai, and in the enforcement of Article 15 of the Regional Constitution, I place you under arrest for violating the Article Three of the Anti-Secession Law. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you," said Zang to the separatist leaders.

Police then handcuffed the separatists and led them to a line of police vans waiting nearby. Neither Anisim - the incumbent "president" of OGIE - or Lhego, Anisim's predecessor, resisted. The arrests were broadcast by national and regional television.

The separatists had been extradited by Luziycan President Sera Svensson, who said her country will no longer support the organization. The decision was met with some protests domestically over allegations that the Luziycan government fabricated charges of tax evasion in order to arrest the separatists and keep them in custody. Svensson has since pledged to investigate these allegations.

Nevertheless, the Namorese Foreign Ministry praised the extradition. When asked about the protests against the extradition in Luziyca, Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong said the protests are against an allegedly fabricated charge, but the fact that OGIE has been involved in terrorism against the Namorese people for decades in indisputable.

"The separatists waged a thoroughly documented campaign of terror against Namor. In regards to the charges levied against them in Luziyca, this is Luziyca's internal manner and does not concern us. What matters to us is that these separatists have been brought to our country where they will stand trial for their crimes against us," Shen said. "Yes, Luziyca is rather late in recognizing the threat posed by OGIE, but it's better than not recognizing the threat at all. Both our countries should be proud for this."

As the separatists were arrested in Txotai, Shen said Txotai may exercise its rights as an autonomous republic and try the separatists.

In Kusef, Head of State Wei Siang said Txotai will ensure that the separatists are tried in a fair and transparent manner in accordance with existing laws.

"I've directed the regional court to be as impartial as possible in dealing with this case," he said. "This shouldn't be a concern as Txotai has been successful in ensuring rule of law."

Executive Order to ensure that Luziyca complies with the Three Conditions
Image
Sera Svensson at a campaign rally

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Just a day after the leaders of the OGIE arrived in Gusev where they were arrested by Namorese police for terrorist attacks against Namor, Sera Svensson signed an executive order regarding the "Three Conditions" that were a prerequisite for normalization relations with Namor from the end of the Third Namo-Luziycan War. Her order would formally ensure Luziycan compliance with the Three Conditions.

The Three Conditions were agreed by the Namorese Central Council to be like this:

  1. Luziyca ceases all recognition towards the regime in Peitoa (Republic of Namor) and recognizes the People's Republic of Namor as the sole, legitimate government of the Namorese nation and people.
  2. Luziyca acknowledges that Nantai is Namorese "culturally, politically and legally." It must agree that Namor should restore sovereignty over Nantai sometime soon (although Su didn't specify when) and prepare for reunification. It must recognize Namor's stance that although Namo supports a peaceful reunification, Namo can resort to unilateral moves whenever it sees fit.
  3. Luziyca apologizes and compensates for all harm inflicted by it on the Namorese people. Luziyca should compensate no less than £200,000 to the descendants of Namorese soldiers recognized to have fought in the First Namo-Luziycan War, no less than £400,000 to the relatives of those who died during the Txotai rebellion, and no less than £800,000 to the families of the 16 Namorese civilians killed in the Vulan Incident. As for the Vulan Incident, Luziyca must acknowledge that it deliberately perpetrated the massacre and either hand all responsible officers to Namor so that they can be tried, or try them domestically.

The executive order issued by Sera Svensson formally stated in response to the Three Conditions that:

  1. Noting the ceasing of operations of the Republic of Namor, and the decision to sever ties with the RoN prior to the Namorese liberation of Peitoa and its associated islands
  2. Declaring that the October Consensus adequately ensures the compliance of the Second Condition
  3. Formally acknowledges that it has committed significant grievances, and apologizes for what it has done to the Namorese people in the First Namo-Luziycan War, the Txotai War, and the Third Namo-Luziycan War.
    1. The government also takes full responsibility for the Vulan incident, and shall formally charge all those responsible for committing a breach of the laws of war
    2. Also shall provide adequate compensation as listed in the demands of the Three Conditions to all these parties, and to provide the necessary funds to transfer these funds to the Namorese government so to distribute them

When asked about this order by reporters, she says, "Our main priority for the first while is to acknowledge that we are no longer in a detente stage. In many ways, we are forming a close partnership, and my hope is that over the course of my presidency, we will no longer have detente: instead, we will become close regional partners, and as the economies of these two south Velkian nations become intertwined, I have high hopes that there shall be no stumbling blocks towards this lofty goal."

But her decision to support the Three Conditions has seen significant opposition: Paul Nikolovich condemned Sera Svensson, saying that "she is taking detente too far," and adding that "she is placing the interests of Namor over that of our people and our country. Had the people known that she would implement such a dangerous path, we would have kept Shjoraski in office!"

Approval ratings of Sera Svensson have fallen to 27% since she decided to extradite Yorskov Lhego and Valeriy Anisim to Namor for terrorism, as well as the recent decision to sign the executive order that would ensure that Luziyca fully complies with the Three Conditions had been set out by Namor nearly twenty years ago as a precondition to normalize relations with Namor.

In Gijirokastra, protesters sympathizing with the Otekians began to demand that Svensson leave, chanting "CARE FOR US, NOT THE NAMORIAN!" and "SVENSSON WILL BANKRUPT OUR COUNTRY AND ENRICH THE NAMORESE!" Banners demonstrated opposition to her plan to expand detente and help forge closer ties to Namor.

There, the new NLP leader, ethnic Otekian Dorothy Vasiliev stated at the rally that "There is a clear line between improving relations between Namor and Luziyca, and then there is just becoming a Namorese colony. And we ran past that line, and running towards Namo," much to critical acclaim and cheers from the crowd.

This protest, as well as others all across the country, indicates that it is clear that detente is starting to reach its political limits in Luziyca, like it already has within Namor.

Vice-President Colin Hardage told reporters that "Svensson ran on a platform to promise that we will get better services. While we are starting to see some of that policy with universal healthcare beginning to be put into place nationwide, her recent decisions to pander to the Namorese on such a huge scale is too much for many Luziycans to handle. We need to slow things down a smidge, and take it gradually, not just have these changes thrust upon us."
