South State Auditor Freezes Education Budget Amidst Middle School Language Controversy
Image
This is Hillary Nantes, speaking to you from the Board of Education building in Holon, South State. Amidst the controversy surrounding South State governor James Prenevaou's proposal to eliminate local language instruction in the 4th grade, State Auditor Helene Tuwin announced earlier today a freeze on the state's education budget until the controversy is resolved. Following the Governor's proposal, the Libertarian leadership in the state assembly has refused to draft a law reflecting the proposal, and has not acted to make any change regarding language instruction. In South, as well as across West Cedarbrook, local language instruction switched from the pirmary local language to the secondary, depending on the ethnic makeup of the district. Observers at the state assembly believe that assemblymen have been waiting for a reaction from West Cedarbrook Treasurer Nina Silver regarding the legality of such a change in appropriations before introducing legislation. But since the announcement of the proposal, the issue has remained in limbo. At this time there has been no statement from the governor's office, or the state treasurer or solicitor general challenging Tuwin's announcement. Tuwin bolted the Libertarian ticket to win election last September, has asked the Assembly to forestall passage of the budget until she can ascertain
the legality of the Governor's proposal, and obtain answers from him about keeping the secondary local language line at the same level as last year. In an interview this morning with 9SEE reporters, Tuwin explained "This issue has remained in legal contention for too long. Further indecision by the Governor and the Assembly will result in sever discrepancies in the financial management of school districts across the state. I am taking this action as a preventative measure, so that school budgeting can proceed with certainty, now that we are one month into the school year. From my perspective, any changes desired by the Governor or the Assembly will need to be instituted in the 2016 school year."

Also in Holon, last year's Conservative candidate for Governor, Linda Dautrieve gave her support for Tuwin's action. "Once again we have seen this governor take rash action, with little thought given to the financial consequences that will have to be borne by the people of South State. I applaud the Auditor's action, and encourage the State Assembly to bury the latest stupidity coming from the Governor's Residence."

Ocidenia: Brozhav Commits Military Against Protestors
James Sinkewicz reports from embatteled Paradisa, where the Ocidenian strongman Simeon Brozhav has announced the deployment of the Ocidenian military against secession minded rebels in that nations north and south.
Image

In an official statement, the administration of Prime Minister Simeon Brozhav has decided to launch full scale military operations against secessionist rebels in the north and south of the country. The Ocidenian Commonwealth Armed Forces will be responsible for launching an assault on the secessionist territories in the north and south in accordance to the government orders and the parliament’s approval.

This decision was not taken immediately as the administration has been debating on this issue for weeks, before coming to the final decision today. In fact, the most recent attempts by the government to handle the crisis purely consisted of diplomatic efforts as the administration consistently attempted to renew dialog with the leaderships of both secessionist movements to no effect. The latest attempt to do so has been carried out even after the recent declaration of “total war” against the government of Ocidenia by the secessionists. After the National Security Committee and the Department of Defense had taken this decision, Prime Minister Simeon Brozhav addressed the parliament requesting that a resolution approving the authorization of anti-terrorist military operations in northern and southern Ocidenia be passed. This morning, the parliament had officially passed the resolution with a unanimous vote approving military action against the secessionists in the north and south. In accordance to the terms of the resolution, the Ocidenian Commonwealth Armed Forces will now be responsible for carrying out said operations in northern and southern Ocidenia. The nation's regular army has also received approval to launch an incursion into the secessionist-held territories.

Sources close to the Ocidenian military report the assault would not be divided into stages as the Ocidenian Commonwealth Armed Forces plan to strike the secessionist-held northern and southern Ocidenia on land and from the air all at once, while the Ocidenian Naval Forces even plan to launch strikes at northern Ocidenia from the country’s territorial waters.

In Wrycova, the Department of External Affairs has been monitoring the situation closely. The turmoil in Ocidenia is viewed with concern, mainly due to the possibility of spill over into neighboring countries, any signs of efforts by Western powers to prop up the controversial Brozhav administration, and increasing risk to markets and investments in western South Conitia. One source close to External Affairs commented, off the record, "We can't realistically expect anything but turmoil as long as this coup installed government holds power in Paradisa. Of course, it is for the people of Ocidenia to decide what they want, but as long as democratic elections and rights are squelched by their administration, there's going to be trouble."

The turmoil in Ocidenia is rumored to be on the agenda at ongoing meetings of the Southeast Oriental Entente, in Wiley, Masseau.

Esquarian Cup IV - The Luziycans' Unhappy Easter

Image

that sends them home

SCOTIAN RESULTS
29 March - Luziyca 3-5 Scotia
31 March - Scotia 1-0 Qianrong
2 April - Arkiasis 1-0 Scotia
CHRISTIANA, MICHILLIES - After suffering a huge loss to the Royal Stewarts, followed by a disappointing tie to Banija, Luziyca's team is heading back to Bethlehem empty-handed. This comes after yet another disappointing tie, this time to their Qianrongese counterparts, who have plenty of reasons to celebrate.
SCOTIAN SCHEDULE

6 April - v. Banija

The match comes with plenty of emotions as Qianrongese fans saw the match as a chance to avenge both the Luziycan "betrayal" of Qianrong's government during its recent ASQ crisis (which ultimately help drive the country into Scotia and New Zepuha's sphere), and the Firebirds' humiliating loss to the Emperors and the Francillians at the last Cup. One fan told reporters after the match that he feels that "We've made up for last year. We kept the Luziycans from scoring, and we eliminated them. Even if we don't advance, I feel like this was a good season."

A Facebook post sent out by Scotian head coach Alastair Armstrong has congratulated the Firebirds for playing a very good match, saying that "We wish the Qianrongese team all the best as they hope that they make it to the Round of 16 with us. After what happened last year, and seeing them take on the silver medallists, they deserve it." Qianrong's chances of making it to the knockout rounds will depend on the Scotians scoring a goal against Banija on Monday, as well as the Luziycans pulling off a surprise win over Arkiasis that same day. No matter what happens in Carthage though, the Emperors' chances of making it into the Round of 16, let alone carting off with the trophy, is as good as dead.

Esquarian Cup IV - Armstrong confident Scotia will win over Banija

Image
The Scotian team before their first game with the
Luziycan team, which they won 5-3

SCOTIAN RESULTS
29 March - Luziyca 3-5 Scotia
31 March - Scotia 1-0 Qianrong
2 April - Arkiasis 1-0 Scotia
CHRISTIANA, MICHILLIES - Head coach of the Scotian team Alasdair Armstrong has stated that he's confident that the Scotian team will triumph over the Banijans in the Royal Stewarts' final group match in Carthage today.

SCOTIAN SCHEDULE

6 April - v. Banija
Speaking to reporters in a press briefing before the match, Mr. Armstrong told the Scotia Times that "After seeing us dominate the field, first by taking on the second-place champs and winning, and then tying with the Qianrongese team, I am absoutely confident that the team can pull through, especially after they had a long rest." When asked about whether both the Scotian loss to Arkiasis or said Arkiasian loss to Banija would factor into the team, he stated that "we have looked into those two matches, and we've certainly improved from our last match. While we've lost, it's important to know it could have been worse. We've managed to get by an succeed, and I don't see why it might be different this time."

If Scotia wins this match, it will no doubt ensure their lead and their place in the Round of 16, along with whoever wins in the other Group C match between the already-eliminated Luziycans and Arkiasis. All bets are pointing to Scotia and either Qianrong or Arkiasis entering into the knockout rounds.

A Look at Oteki's army-in-exile with Valeriy Anisim
How is the present Holy Defense Forces faring?
Image
New recruits from the Holy Defense Forces during their first day of training
After an era of disarmament of Otekian exiles, the "army-in-exile" is back in the form of the Holy Defense Forces (HDF) with president Valeriy Anisim as its commander-in-chief. The establishment of the HDF was welcomed by many Otekians and shunned by others, mainly the Namorese government, over fears that the rebooting of the armed resistance will bring back violence. Commander-in-chief Anisim met The Otekian in an exclusive interview, where he answered some of the questions the world might have for the new Otekian army-in-exile.

What's the purpose of the HDF?
"The Holy Defense Forces is the self-defense force of the Otekian government. Its goal is to defend the Otekian people from all sorts of threats that encounter them and protect our cause through lethal means if necessary. In essence, the HDF was formed to protect Otekian people."

What is its command structure?
"Our headquarters is in Frontiersburg, the 'capital' of the Otekian exile community. But we have offices in other places where there are Otekians so we can extend our reach. As commander-in-chief, I approve all of the operations to make sure the group doesn't get out of hand. Fedya Milan and John Vlasi, who were formerly leaders of their own militia groups, are co-ministers of defense of the Otekian government. They report to me about the status of our forces in the diaspora. Their job is to make sure the orders are executed. Then there are the generals who lead the individual units. They report to the co-ministers."

Who can join the HDF? How many are in the HDF as of now?
"Anyone who is above the age of 18 and is a member of the exile community and possesses a blue book, which gives them the right to vote in elections, may join the HDF. Although we have a bunch of people who know how to fight, we don't expect every recruit to have some firsthand experience in fighting. Provided that they have the adequate qualities, they can join the HDF and receive weeks of training where they are taught how to use firearms, grenades and most automatic weapons. A selected few may become part of our special forces, who engage in high-level intensity operations.

"But I'm afraid I can't tell you how many are currently in the HDF. This is a security issue that, if exposed, may benefit our enemies. But while I can't provide you an exact number, I can tell you that a lot of people have signed up for the HDF, a lot. In fact, more people than we expected."

Does the HDF comply with Luziycan law?
"Absolutely. We are sheltered in Luziyca and we are obliged to follow the laws of our hosts. In accordance to local laws, semi-automatic rifles, pistols and rifles are not regulated. These are the weapons all HDF members may carry with them. Everyone in the HDF who uses magazine-fed machine guns received background checks or are properly registered, and all those who possess flamethrowers are properly licensed. To show that we follow the law, we allow officials from the Luziycan government check our weapons and their owners. They have found no violations so far.

"Upon joining the HDF, members pledge to use their firearms for defensive purposes only, and they must show that they have had a record of using arms responsibly. If a HDF member commits a crime in Luziyca, we will fully cooperate with local authorities."

The Namorese occupation authorities are worried that the HDF is a reincarnation of the former Knights. How do you see this?
"The Namorese regime treats Otekians inhumanely, and their occupation of Oteki is everything but right. We are a resistance group, we don't care if they're worried or not. It's only wrong if they're not concerned about us."

But there are some in the ONC who disapprove of this army, including Natasha Roman who says she prefers a peaceful solution with the Namorese. Are they wrong?
"I never said the government-in-exile doesn't want a peaceful solution. Everyone here wants the occupation by Namor to end without bloodshed. It's a miracle if the Namorese retreat from Oteki without a single shot fired, but the probability of that is very low, so I'm not counting on it.

"People like Roman should realize that it's them who we are protecting. We are their guns, we are their bodyguards. When the time comes, we'll defend Otekian opponents of this army. Like I said before, this army was formed to protect the Otekian people. Something needs to protect the Otekian people regardless of whether there is a peaceful solution or not."

The HDF is now involved in Qianrong. How much are they involved there, and will they ever get involved directly in Oteki and places surrounding it?
"Right now, the Holy Defense Forces sent a group of advisers to Qianrong to aid local Otekian militias in fighting the ASQ terrorists. The advisers are professionally-trained people who at one point in time were involved in armed resistance against Namorese rule. Their experience will prove invaluable in the war against the terrorists who harass our people who live within their grasp.

"And of course Oteki is not without the limits of our operations, for our priority is the defense of our oppressed brethren living under Namorese occupation."

Is the Luziycan government supplying your group with weapons, money or anything?
"So far we've received only monetary aid. Only a few Luziycans in private identity volunteered to support us. A few Geads too. I don't think that's enough, though. My representatives are asking Bethlehem to supply us with better weapons that are normally restricted."

You mentioned Geads. What role do they play in the HDF? And where do they come from - are they Geads from occupied Oteki or Geadland?

"They're just helping out. Some of them may be officials, but I can't say. We welcome any support."

According to sources close to the Luziycan government, however, Bethlehem does not regard the HDF in a positive light. Could it be because the Luziycans fear any possible HDF attacks on the Namorese may ruin relations with Namor?
"The Holy Defense Forces will never attack its hosts, no, never. Whatever we do against the Namorese, we do it in our name only, not in the name of the Luziycan government. We do not wish to implicate the Luziycans in this regard, so they have no need to worry. We will take responsibility for our own actions. What we do has nothing to do with detente, and detente has nothing to do with what we're doing. So in the end there is no need for concern."

What do you want to say to those who claim the HDF is a terrorist group?
"How can we be terrorists if we're fighting terrorists in Qianrong? I think when [Knights commander] Breuvi Chikmurdof - may he rest in peace - was asked that same question about his group, he replied that he was just doing what any oppressed people would do when they are oppressed to the extent that they have no choice. The oppressed resist. We resist."

[/floateft]AUBURN CITY, CAROLINA. After several lenghty battles, Rebel forces captured the cities of Auburn city, Houston, Montgomery, and several other cities. At 5:24 AM, artillery fire could be heard. After a 2 hour battle, Government forces were forced to retreat from the city. As Nationalist Commander Jonathan Delgado put it, the government forces "recieved bullets for breakfast". The government troops were forced to retreat to the other cities and recover. However do to the fact that the government forces were thinly spread as well as being very tired and having terrible leadership, the Nationalist rebels easily overran the government controlled areas. Now, the government forces have relocated to Miami, and the areas surrounding Austin, hoping that they can stand their ground there. A similar situation in the Conch Islands when Rebel Mahacan forces landed on the shores of the southern Conch islands. Do to the fact that the Southern portion was not very well guarded, government troops were handily defeated, and driven into the Northern part of the isles.

Anyway, it appears the government is bound for defeat. Carrie Miller, Auburn City, CNN News.

CdE IV PAVONISTADE KNOCKS OUT CAUSENIA 3-1, WILL ADVANCE TO KNOCKOUTS
First knockout opponent would be Group H runnerup Kraq

Date: April 6, 2015

Midfielder Evan Samntona being interviewed

The Ocelot Isles is in a national shock as they lost to Namor's Liberators 2-3. The Purrs, as a result of this loss, are barred fron entering the Round of 16 and are headed only for home. But for the Triple Colors, they continue their streak of defeatless success. The opposing Causenian Region was unable to end the match in its favor and are sent out of the Coupe like the Ocelot Isles.

You may have noticed in the title that the scores say "3-1" instead of "3-0". This is because Causenia contaminated Pavonistade's clean record and scored a goal past the goalkeeper. That's right - Causenia became the first to do such a thing against the Triple Colors, something that Walminghaven, Ionland, and Vjaarland were unable to do. This goal was made in the 20th minute, and despite the efforts of midfielders and then the centre-backs, a Causenian player defied the skills of Sean Johansen and net the ball past him.

Causenia's spectacle seemed not to make a dent in the Triple Colors, and they went to score three times as much as their opponents. At 35', Donald Barbetou volleyed the ball past the opposing goalkeeper. After he managed to create a temporary tie, captain Frederik Kamef repeated a similar feat in the 60th minute. The captain received the ball after Alecsandeur Iatouqua intercepted an attempt to breach the defenses and transferred the ball to Lessac Periof, who in turn sent it to Kamef. The final goal (in the 86th minute) was made by Barbetou again, after Evan Samntona protected the ball from the Causenians. As the second half came to an end, it was clear that Pavonistade will advance to the Round of 16.

Samntona, having contributed to the Triple Color's third goal, commented, "it is such a great moment to see that you won just another match, that you stay alive and remain standing in front of your opponents [...] but what's even greater is that we are given the chance to advance beyond the groups and face more teams that come not from our group. The fun builds up, but so does the risk; once you lose a match by even one point, it's no question that you are eliminated for good."

Meanwhile, Nathen Sacherisen described the Causenian team. "The Causenians did put up good resistance, to start off. Look at the previous matches and you'll see that they weren't so beat up, like what we saw in the Iglesiantis-Lyonsland match. It's because they are a considerable team to us despite their defeats and ties. [...] Up in our match, they tried vigorously to break our defenses open and get a goal in. They managed to do just that twenty minutes into the game. Another evidence that they put out a vigorous effort is that our successful attempts have been limited to three [...] it can't be that our teammates are slacking off, but it can be the fact that Causenia - or any country - can't be underestimated like coach Dawn said."
Image
The sixteen advancing teams

Pavonistade remained first place in the final group stages match, with overall ten points and a goal difference of +9. Vjaarland, which is traditionally associated with ice or winter sports, has made it to second place and just below us. The country was able to defeat and force elimination of Walminghaven. Joining Causenia and Walminghaven in the elimination is Ionland, which sits at bottom place of Group G and has only one point.

Former team member Harold Sarkodel reminded that this is Pavonistade's debut in Coupe d'Esquarium, and he "congratulate[d] the squad abroad for making such an excellent debut in the international tournament [...] it can be a surprise when debuting countries like Pavonistade perform so well."

Now that Pavonistade's the winner (or at the top place) of Group G, the answer to the question about who Pavonistade will face next has been given. The runner-up country in Group H is Kraq, known for auspiciously holding out against nevanmaa, and since a Group G winner is to face a Group H runner-up, it would be the Kraqis that the Triple Colors will play next. In a very recent interview with Johansen, he went over what could be expected from the next country. "If [Kraq] tied with two countries, and if it knocks out Nevanmaa and Magane, then its records suggest that the players we'll face in two day's time should be able to put up resistance against us [...] and that can be quite a bit of a problem."'

Aside from Vjaarland, Kraq, and us, the other teams that survived the group stages include those of Michillies, Britanno, Derman Iles, Francilie, Scotia, Qianrong, Vyvland, Lyonsland, Ainin, Vozergovnia, North Cortoguay, Namor, and Nevanmaa. The matches that come after Kraq are uncertain. Pavonistade, if it defeats its next opponent, will have to face either Ainin or Namor. Following either Ainin or Namor would come Michillies, Francilie, Scotia, or Lyonsland, all of which are listed as Threat Level Two countries in the updated Sporofi Lists.

For the current point of time, fans are joyed that Pavonistade has survived the group stages.

Vozergovnian National Football Team Defeat Koyro 1-0 to Enter Round of 16 at the Coupe d’Esquarium in Michillies; Vozergovnia Erupts in Utter Happiness

The King has personally called the members of the Vozergovnian men's national football team currently playing at the Coupe d’Esquarium in Michillies to congratulate them on their exceptional performance at the football competition widely-regarded as the most prestigious, difficult and fierce in Esquarium. This comes after the Vozergovnian team, our boys, defeated Koyro 0-1 with a goal by Tomas Yurinski thereby entering the Round of 16 at the aforementioned competition.

Although doubts were cast on their ability to continue in the cup after the culmination of the group following a defeat a four-goal defeat to the Aininian national football team the Red-and-Blues managed to finish the second in their group (only behind Ainin) with a record of two victories, one draw and one defeat in a total of four games.

The Vozergovnians are now scheduled to meet North Cortoguay, an autonomous republic of the Michillian Republic, later today. An emergency increase in commerical flights to the Michillian Republic and polls conducted at Vozergovnian international airports seem to suggest Vozergovnian fans are heading to Michillies en masse in order to support their national team; many did not believe they would qualify for the knock-out stages at the cup and therefore did not depart for Michillies earlier on in the competition.

Meanwhile, the capital, Belgrev, came to a standstill as fans poured onto the streets once again (they had done the same thing for Vozergovnia's first victory in the group stage). Flags were waved incessantly and celebrations extended late into the night.

Our boys remain in the competition; they are still able to achieve the most glorious position in Esquarian football. Will they do it? Probably not but our story (that of our footballers at an international level) is a brilliant underdog tale which will be remembered for years to come. One can only imagine what would happen if they emerged victorious!

Pustinia to ban plastic bag bans
Image
Watch out: Pustinian cities cannot ban plastic bags!

FENIKSGRAD, PUSTINIA - Today, the State Legislature of Pustinia voted 72 ayes to 18 nays to implement a ban on bans on plastic bags within the state, citing consumer choice, and over-regulation. The bill, titled the "State Environmental Regulation Act, 2015" also will restrict the rights of the municipalities to putting any restrictions on cans, bottles, and boxes within the state.

The person who first proposed the bill, MLA Artur Victorovich (Whig) from the riding of Feniksgrad-Northeast said, "The reason why I've tabled this bill is because we believe that continued over-regulations will stifle the future economic growth of this free state. It also stifles the choices of consumers, who are forced to obtain paper bags, pay extra for plastic bags, or buy a reusable bag. In addition, because of concerns that our economic activity could be stifled, this bill shall end the ability of the municipalities to restrict bottles, cans, and boxes, to ensure that consumer choice shall not be violated."
In stunning contrast, MLA Mary Pelagayov of Semen said, "This bill only hurts the choices of the communities that reside within the state to decide whether to ban these or not: you may cite individual freedoms, or over-regulation, when quite frankly, this state does not have a lot in the way of environmental regulations. I shall encourage my constituents to not use plastic bags, even if this bill gets passed."

Currently, only one city, Semen, with 37,500 people has banned plastic bags, outlawing them in 2011. Elsewhere in the country, at least fifty cities have implemented plastic bag bans, or at least restricted them: many states have imposed taxes on plastic bags, leaving Pustinia, Shenitsa, Tungista, Kashui, and Ubezha as the only areas to not have taxes on plastic bans. In recent months, Pelagaya and Palmyra have talked about implementing plastic bag bans as well.

With a Whig supermajority in the state legislature of Pustinia, all of the Whig members voted yes to outlaw bans on plastic bags, while the official opposition, the Liberal Party voted no. They are the only two parties in the state legislature of Pustinia.

Following the vote, Governor Ted Vorokovich announced to the press, "I fully intend to sign this act into law, because I care for the best interests of this state, and the people who reside in the state." When the press attempted to ask him questions, he had no comment upon them.

Despite this, there was a lot of criticism, especially among environmentalists, who criticized the act as "a step backwards and only promotes greater environmental damage." Some people have even argued that "the retail industry is completely behind this act," though there has been no comment from the top retail chains.

Namor advances to Round of 16 after beating Ocelot Isles
What's next for the Liberators?
April 8, NMR 2375

MICHILLIES - Namorese found themselves to be one of the few astonished people in Esquarium after finding out that the Liberators defeated the Ocelot Isles and are consequently entering the Round of 16.

Prior to the Namor-Ocelot Isles match, there were great expectations for the Ocelotian team to defeat the Namorese. Ocelotian football player Yanick Schmitt called Namor the "next stop" in his tweet and used the hashtag "#stomptheliberators," referring to the Liberators, the nickname of the Namorese team.

But come matchday five, the Liberators stunned the Ocelotians with their "preemptive strikes." An Yanlin scored a goal past the Ocelotians at the 15th and 24th minutes. The Ocelotians retaliated by scoring two goals, but it was not enough to deter the Namorese. Attacker Dong Ling snuck past Ocelotian lines at the 83rd minute and scored the third goal for the Namorese, decisively disappointing the Ocelotians with a 3-2 victory for Namor. The victory over the Ocelotians earned the Liberators their third victory in the Coupe D'Esquarium, making them a step behind the North Cortoguayans, who are leading Group F. Nonetheless, Namor is advancing to the Round of 16.

While the Ocelotians are in a state of "national shock" as reported by the Pavonistade Agency of News, Namor prevails. Few jeers were made at the Ocelotians on Twitter since Namor and the Ocelot Isles enjoy friendly relations, and the match was considered a decisive, but a friendly one. Yet many Namorese also took time to celebrate the Liberators' achievements, their entry into the Round of 16 and hoping that they will fight all the way.

Namor's entry into the Round of 16 bolstered Namorese fans' confidence in the Liberators' performance. Contrary to Namor's devastating loss to North Cortoguay in its first CdE game, many Namorese say the team does have a chance to make it to the very top - even if its next adversary - Ainin - shouldn't be overlooked.

Which brings the Liberators to their first Round of 16 match against the Aininian "Coyotes." In spite of the renewed optimism, some believe Namor is going to have a rough time when it faces Ainin - who almost made it in CdE2 in a phenomenon that forced many Aininians to reconsider the role football plays in their culture. "We're probably going to be eliminated [from the CdE] after playing Ainin," a resident of Namo said when asked what he thought about the Liberators' future in the CdE.

But others are warning that the Liberators should not be disparaged with. "We did defeat the Aininians [in the CdE] at several occasions, when the two teams were at the same group," said Tinjan Ancha of Team Namor. "Who knows, we could beat the Aininians or tie with them. It isn't impossible."

CAN THE FIREBIRDS UPSET THE WORLD?
Some are skeptical of Qianrong's future in the Coupe after it was announced they would face Vyvland in the Round of 16-
Many in Qianrong, however, believe that the champion of the second Coupe may be no more of a threat than the champion of the first.

Qianrongese fans celebrate Qianrong's advance to the Round of 16 on the streets of Yucheng earlier this week.

VILLOBA, MICHILLIES- APRIL 8th, 2015 - There have been many doubts about the future of the Firebirds in this fourth Coupe d'Esquarium. They drew into a tough group and ran close to the edge of elimination for the entire knockout stage; this news site itself dismissed the Coupe d'Esquarium IV as "the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Coupe". Yet somehow the Qianrongese team forced the elimination of the once-champions Luziyca and advanced to the Round of 16. Later today, however, the Firebirds- having lived through it all and made it to the knockout stage- will have the face the Vyvlander team, which won the second Coupe. Some are skeptical of Qianrong's chances against the Vyvlander team- but others supporters hope that Qianrong can eliminate a second Coupe champion, using the hashtag #UpsetTheWorld.

Qianrong's fates in the group stage don't exactly make many optimistic about its future in the knockout stage. Qianrong only has one win, with two ties and a loss in the group stage. The Qianrongese offense has only scored twice, both times against newcomers Banija. For the entirety of the group stage, Qianrong has been playing fast and dangerous with its chances for advancement; had Arkiasis or Banija pulled off a victory in their final matches, then Qianrong would have fallen into third or fourth place. The ties and loss that Qianrong suffered from Arkiasis, Scotia, and Luziyca made Qianrong's position very risky. In essence, Qianrong's advancement depended on other teams suffering comparable misfortunes. After such a dangerous group stage, there are understandable doubts about the possibilities Qianrong has in the much tougher and riskier knockout stages.

Vyvland, however, has had an easy group stage. They were undefeated in group play, beating Ziegenhain, Lyonsland, Vojkaria, and Iglesiantis. They have not yet been scored on by any team, and have scored seven points themselves. Not to mention that they are also holders of a Coupe championship title, which they won in the second edition of the soccer tournament. As such, the Vyvlander team appears almost invincible in this year's Coupe. Vyvland's record against Qianrong's have made many view the chances for the Firebirds as bleak. As such, some are already attempting to brace themselves for the bitter sting of a loss.

For some, however, the same history is a source of optimism, not pessimism. The primary focus here is on the elimination of soccer behemoth Luziyca, which won the inaugural Coupe d'Esquarium and was silver medalist in the third, but was eliminated following a zero-zero tie to Qianrong in the group stage. Qianrong forced a tie against the Luziycans, eliminating them from the Coupe d'Esquarium. Though the Vyvlanders are not the demoralized and incompetent Luziycans, the fact that Qianrong eliminated a globally-famous soccer team has made many more confident about the Firebirds' chances in the knockout stage. It also means that Vyvland's past accolades carry less weight to Qianrongese fans.

Furthermore, the QIanrongese team is both skilled and rested. Qianrong's defense is one of the best in the region, having let by only a single goal in the entire Coupe d'Esquarium- and that was in the rather friendly match against the Scotian Royal Stewards. Furthermore, Qianrong has had several days to rest and to train, having last competed on April 2nd in the game against Luziyca; April 6th was a bye day for the Firebirds, meaning they have had five days to build themselves up and prepare themselves for the knockout stage. The Firebirds undoubtedly took advantage of this time to practice and train. By contrast, Vyvland had a hotly-contested match with Lyonsland on the 6th, only winning by one point against the team that came second in Vyvland's group. This means that Vyvland has not had as much time to rest and repair.

Because of these reasons, many devoted Firebirds supporters have said that they are confident Qianrong can pull off an upset victory against Vyvland, eliminating a second Coupe d'Esquarium champion and advancing into the quarterfinals. In fact, this line of thought even has some prominent supporters:

Ultimately, though, only one thing can determine who will win the Vyvland-Qianrong game- the game itself. Until those ninety minutes of soccer are played, it is unclear if the Firebirds will upset the world and defeat Vyvland, or if the Vyvlander team will send the Qianrongese marching back to Yucheng. After all, when played out on paper, many expected easy successes for the Luziycan team in Group C, and we all know how wrong that was. Regardless of how the game goes, though, this Coupe has been a massive success for Qianrong: Luziyca was eliminated by Qianrong and the Frebirds avenged past humiliation, and for the first time Qianrong made it to the knockout stage in the Coupe. Even if their Coupe ends here, the Qianrongese team and people will undoubtedly look back on this Coupe with pride.

We here at Radio Free Qianrong wish the Firebirds the best of luck today in their match against Vyvland, and hope that Qianrong does continue in this Coupe. The Qianrongese team is skilled, and the people of Qianrong stand behind them today regardless of whether or not they expect them to win or lose.

TORBJÖRNSEN: FREE NATIONS SHOULD SUPPORT OCIDENIA
Says that the Brozhav regime is preferable to separatist rebels

8 April 2015 Last updated 17:43 Geadish Standard Time
Jaan Torbjörnsen, a former Leader of the Opposition who now serves as Commissioner of Solned, has called for "free nations" to support the Ocidenia government in a civil war against separatist rebels. He said that this should be done in return for concessions, including free and fair elections. He argued that the regime of Ocidenian strongman Simeon Brozhav was preferable to allowing separatist rebels to gain ground.
Let me make one thing clear: I don't condone many of the things that Simeon Brozhav has done. The current regime came to power in a coup d'etat that was backed by foreign powers, overthrowing a government with far more democratic credibility. But with two armies of separatist rebels threatening to run amok across the entire country, we need to ask ourselves this question: what's the least worst option? Prolonging the Brozhav regime or letting the rebels go on a hunting trip? So we should offer our support to the Ocidenian government. We should also demand concessions in return for our support, such as free and fair elections and a restoration of civil liberties.

He said that the rebels were a much bigger threat than the government to the well-being of ordinary Ocidenians.
We don't quite know what the separatist rebels are planning, but we know that they intend to make incursions outside of their respective territories. They can't possibly support freedom and democracy. There is a real risk that we could be seeing war crimes and atrocities being committed here. Even if they don't allowing them to run amok would be disastrous for Ocidenia. The whole country would just fall into chaos. A prolongued civil war in Ocidenia would not only leave the country in a mess but it would also threaten the stability of surrounding countries.

He also denied that this move would be seen as supporting Luziyca:
There was a cartoon in a Namorese newspaper in a which Brozhav says to Shjoraski "Boss, what do we do now?" and Shjoraski replies back "That's up for you to decide." Luziyca seems to have abandoned Ocidenia, so other nations should pick up the pieces. By demanding political reforms, we could give the Ocidenian people a chance to change their government.

The current Leader of the Opposition, Samuel Stefansen, said that "Jaan Torbjörnsen isn't completely wrong here. Yes, separatist rebels going on the loose in Ocidenia would benefit no-one. But I don't think that providing support for the Brozhav regime is going to help make Ocidenia freer, and he can't exactly be trusted to hold free and fair elections. The separatist rebels are doomed anyway, because no-one outside supports them." The government has not commented on Torbjörnsen's statement; Nordland is currently on leave due to the death of her father last week.

OP-ED: What the match with Lyonsland means for our chances?
By: Michael Abercrombie

Image
The Scotian team just before their tie with Banija that confirms their lead into Group C

The world is full of surprises. And if you've been watching the latest coverage of the 4th Esquarian Cup on RTA, I tell you there's plenty of it. From the great Luziycan collapse to the surprise win by Kraq over the Nevans. Or of course, our own team's debut in the greatest (international) football tournament in Esquarium. We helped send the Emperors packing with the 5-3 opener, then confirmed our rise with a 1-0 win against Qianrong's Firebirds (no offense to our allies). Sure we lost to the Arkiasians, and we saw many doubt that we would actually make it into the knockout rounds after seeing the late surge by the other non-Luziyca teams in our group. Ultimately, our tie with Banija confirmed our lead would go on into the Round of 16.

So what's next? Our opponents today are our fellow Gaelic friends: Lyonsland. If you've ever seen the Lyonese trounce the dominant Iglesians 7-1, you'd probably blanch over our chances. After all, if they could take down a giant like Iglesiantis, then they can surely take us out, right? Well, you have to remember, we took down a giant too (Luziyca). We've gotten out of this group strong (only the loss to Arkiasis was our black mark). So we'll probably survive this match, as well. Whatever the outcome, no doubt every fan of the Royal Stewarts would be watching the match, either in La Stellata's Arena Campostella or on TV screens across Scotia, to see whether we make it to the quarter-finals.

Kraq Advances Into Knockout Stages; Will Face Pavonistade in The Round of 16

22nd February, 2015
Villoba, Michillies- If you were to tell any fan of the beatiful game that Kraq would finish the group stage of this year's Coupe d'Esquarium unbeaten, with eight points in the bag, while Luziyca, one of the tournament's most successful teams, would fail to advance beyond the group stage and failed to earn a single win. That fan would probably laugh at you and call you a retard. However, with the group stage coming to a close, the sand dragons have pulled what only can be described as a miracle and advanced into the Round of 16.
Image
Kraqi football fans celebrate advancing
into the Round of 16.

Going into Kraq's match against Rasskovy, the sand dragons would have to win or a draw to advance while North Daecon to had to win and Kraq had to lose, for the North Daeconese to advance. Under this thinking, Kraqi Head Coach Mohammed, abandoned his offensive minded 4-6-0, for a defensive 4-5-1 but kept his favourite starting eleven.

The match started slow, with nether side controlling the game throughout the first 30 minutes of the first half. A scoring chance finally came late in the 41th minute, when a perfect ball from Brevui Themvakok found Anwar El-Mofty in some space, but superb goalkeeping from Tiago Cabral prevented the chance from being converted into a goal. The Rasskovy struck back a just before half time, with a superbly struck free kick going narrowly wide, ending the first half scoreless.

At halftime Head Coach Mohammed brought on Atiya Ajam in replacement of Hikmat Hussain, shifting the Kraqi formation to a 4-3-3. The sand dragons entered the second half attacking, pushing the Rasskovy deep into their own half, for most of the early stages of the second half. During the Kraqi spell of domination, they created several good chances, but the Rasskovy was equal too each attempt. As frustration buildup, the Rasskovy national side fought their way back into the game; going on to dominate the inexperienced Kraqi side for the rest of the latter stages of the second half until the final whistle.

The failure to defeat Rasskovy, left Kraq in second, just a point from Nevanmaa, whom play their ally Vjaarland next in the Round of 16. Kraq however, will play Pavonistade on the 8th of April, in what will be the biggest test of this Kraqi side, who's defence has been proved to be one of the most erratic in the tournament.

"You don't finish top of your group with a GD of +9 and remain undefeated because your lucky," Kraqi Head Coach Iman Mohammed told reporters during a recent interview. "No, it proves the Triple Colors are a good side and we [Kraq] will need to play out of are skins to get beat them and move on into the Quarterfinals."

Kraq's chances of defeating Pavonistade remain uncertain for many football fans. Whether the sand dragons will pull a major upset, like they did in the past against Nevanmaa, will all depend on Kraq's inconsistent defence and whether it will finally tighten up. The Kraqi defence has been the achilles heel of this team, allowing North Daecon to tie things up at 2-2 during Kraq's opening match. If history is any indicator, the Kraqi back four will lose or win Kraq's next match against Pavonistade. Nevertheless, simply making it this far and defeating the Nevans is more than enough to Kraqi fans happy and celebrating for weeks to come.

Lyonsland vs. Scotia - Who will advance to the Quarter Finals?
Lyonsland has advanced beyond the group stages for the first time and will face Scotia tonight

The Warriors took Group D by surprise with scores expected from the likes of Luziyca, but a last game defeat to
Image
The Lyonese team following their win over Ziegenhain last Saturday.
Vyvland cut short Lyonsland's supremeness in Group D, relegating the team to second place on head to head scores. However, Lyonsland has still qualified to the group stages for the first time ever. We've been drawn to face Scotia, the winners of Group C, in the Round of 16 in the city of La Stellata. Tonight's match can be seen live on TVL 2 with coverage beginning at 22:20, with the match beginning at 23:00.

Lyonsland have arguably been one of the best teams in the tournament. Most people expected Lyonsland to qualify only via scraping into second place or otherwise settling for third, however it was clear early on in the group that Lyonsland would guarantee itself a place in the next round. The Warriors launched their offensive-based campaign with a 7-1 hammering of Iglesiantis, much to the shock and celebration of football fans across the nation. Lyonsland continued its fantastic run with a 4-0 win over newcomers Vojkaria and preceded to beat the unisex Ziegenhain team 4-1. By this point, both Vyvland and Lyonsland has guaranteed their places in the Round of 16, however it was the final match that determined who would take the top spot of the group and more importantly: who would be facing who in the knockouts. Vyvland's main star Li Pikok scored early on in the game, securing a Vyvlander win and leaving Lyonsland into second place. Vyvland will now play Qianrong, which has spawned a race row at the country's national broadcaster; resident sports commentator Iywe Ert has been suspended by VNB after allegedly making racist remarks against the Qianrongese team.

How has Scotia fared, you might wonder? The answer is quite well indeed, They won an incredibly tight Group C and kicked off their campaign by beating the despised Luziycan team 5-3, signalling the early beginning of the end for the Emperors. Scotia also managed a 1-0 win over both Qianrong as well as a rather exciting 3-3 draw with Banija. Their only loss was to Arkiasis: our Nordanian neighbours beat the Scotians 1-0 last Thursday. It is safe to say that they won't be easy to beat, but one little hint of optimism for the Warriors is that Scotia managed to get seven points in their group as opposed to Lyonsland's nine. Many might argue that Lyonsland had easier opponents in Group D while Scotia had to battle many strong teams to qualify from their group.

Tune in tonight to see Lyonsland take on Scotia, available live and free on TVL 2, TVL 2 HD and TVL International with coverage and analysis beginning at 22:20 LST, with the match starting at 23:00 LST.. Use #SCOvLYO on Twitter and your tweet may be featured on-screen during the match!

Government inquiry accuses ionland of being behind the 'Christian State'

This article takes the government stance of "terra nullius" between Sakatian and ionland and 'ionland' will be used to refer to it.
Plavagrad, SAKATIA - Minister of Justice Stepan Anikin announced the findings of the investigation into the President Andrei Ansonov assassination as well as a update on the investigation into the 'Christian State'. Minister Anikin announced that the "government and security services of the so-called 'republic of ionland' assisted the 'Christian State' terrorist group in the assassination of the acting President.". The government of Sakatia does not recognize ionland as a legitimate nation state and relations are officially "terra nullius". The Sakatian government announced that they would request Eastern Cooperation Organization member states to issue warrants against ionland leader Nicholas Huntleigh.

President Komarov said that the Sakatian government will continue its embargo against the "Huntleigh gang" and against the land of ionland for "criminal acts". Komarov said that the fact Salkov cooperated with the ionland authorities was "not surprising".

The 'Christian State' insurgency was revealed to be a large scale plan by the "Huntleigh gang" to destabilize Sakatia and prevent Sakatia from becoming a stable state, according to the Justice Ministry. The Sakatian government said they will ask the international community to support them in banning ionland from all international aspects until they cease hostile acts against Sakatia and its neighbors. Last week the Sakatian military announced that a series of military bases were to be opened in Vozergovnia to deter ionland aggression.

An opinion poll released last week showed that 83% of Sakatian had a negative view of ionland and the ionland people in general. A further 98% opposed any form of reconciliation with ionland. 100% supported the overthrow of the Huntleigh gang. Another 84% wished for war with ionland.

CdE IV TRIPLE COLORS SURVIVE AND OVERCOME THE EARTHKRAQ, TO FACE OFF WITH AININ NEXT
Initial 1-1 deadline broken with extra time, resulting in 2-1

Date: April 10, 2015

Image
Midfielder Evan Samntona being interviewed

In its first Round of 16 match, Pavonistade confronted Kraq in Stadio d’Arènas in Puntarenas. The match between the two teams were intense and both were unable to supersede the other. It was the extra time that allowed the Triple Colors to score again and have them prevailing over what many people are calling the "earthKraq" (earthquake).

In the two halves, the Triple Colors landed their score in the 33rd minute. Midfielder Lessac Periof was able to pass the ball (with a push kick) to Oliver Peques, who shot it past goalkeeper Habibullah El-Hashem. However, the Kraqis were able to compensate for this in the second half. Their progress was unable to be stopped by both the Triple Colors barrier and goalkeeper Sean Johansen. Both teams were then stuck in a deadlock for the remainder of the second half, and the draw led to extra time. In the extra time, Evan Samntona slipped the ball past the Kraqis but neither teams could score against each other in the additional time given. The match ended up with a score of 2-1, making the Triple Colors a survivor of the Round of 16.

Lessac Periof commented that "it was a seriously bewildering situation when we skirmished with the Kraqis [...] we were warned early not to underestimate any team, and this principle helped us not to be overconfident as in previous matches, CdE or not." Manager Lawrense Dawn admired the opponents, having said "the Kraqis [...] played the match with splendid tactics and strategies, and I can only admire at how they were able to keep the Triple Colors at bay for prolonged periods." Assistant manager Marek Arankan stated "the efforts that we are putting out are working for us and are creating fortunate results, and they are results of the small, friendly community that our team built up."

Pavonistade's victory grants it the ability to advance to the quarterfinals. The next team to stand in Pavonistade's way are the Aininian Coyotes, who have defeated the Namorese Liberators in today's match. Nathen Sacherisen believed, "if our lake of luck is going to dry up, it has to be when we face Ainin. Considering their progress in the group stages, [...] it looks like we will have to plan extensively and engage in a battle of wits to run over the Coyotes, or at the very least losing without much embarassment. Two things are certain for sure: our morale and unity have to be kept at the highest; and either we win, or we lose."

Fans back in Pavonistade were celebrating over the first victory in the Round of 16, and even more celebrations came from the fact that all of this progress was done by a debuting player. Vice President Teringtor Jehvore gave a short compliment for the Triple Colors by saying that "the enduring team played with straightforward determination and extraordinary courage." He and governmental adviser Vanessa Adeodatus soon offered the team good luck for the match with Ainin, which is scheduled for April 10. "Every step of the Triple Colors comes with ever-increasing support from every Pavonistadian," Adeodatus declared.

In other matches today, the surprising loss of Michillies and North Cortoguay is expected to temporarily ripple through the football world.

Disappointment for the Liberators after 0-1 loss to Ainin
Despite hard fought match that made Aininians sweat, the Namorese are going home
April 9, NMR 2375

MICHILLIES - A disappointing day for the Namorese Liberators as they lost 0-1 to the Aininians, ending all hopes of advancing beyond the Round of 16 and the Liberators' arduous journey in the fourth Coupe D'Esquarium (CdE).
Image
The Namorese team bows to their fans following the eliminating 0-1
loss to Ainin

An Yanlin, the most successful attacker in the team, was unable to score past the Aininians, who were initially unsuccessful in breaking past the Namorese defense. But the defense wore down and Dalin Gaten scored the only goal in the match, provoking frenzy across the stadium.

Upon realization that Namor is out of the CdE, Namorese fans hung their heads in disappointment. Some even cried. An Yanlin was seen collapsing on the ground, sobbing. He later said it was an outpour of grief and joy.

"We went far. It's a shame we couldn't go any further," he said. "I'm sad. But we did our best, we worked together, and we think we've done great. Next year, we're going to prevail all the way. At least we didn't get eliminated trying to get eliminated."

It is clear that many Namorese are looking at the bright side of things. Optimists say for Namor - a country where football isn't "the thing" - to get much farther in the Coupe than the football superpower Luziyca is good enough. Others point at how the Liberators faced more competition in their group than did the Aininians. Of course, it remains a pity that the Liberators must go this far and yet have this opportunity to cut the semifinals stolen from them. But An's looking forward to an end to the trend.

"The Namorese people are known to find a way around the norms, so some say."

Back home, President-General Fu Wen gave the Namorese team a pat on the back in an Executive House video. He said the team showed "excellence and dignity" since the beginning of the Coupe before wishing advancing countries the best of luck in the remainder of the CdE.

Besides Namor, national shock engulfs Michillies after the Michillian team lost 0-1 to Francilie, eliminating Michillies from the Coupe. This was unexpected because the Michillians entered the Coupe with high expectations. Also out of the Coupe is Qianrong, which lost 0-1 also to longtime CdE champ Vyvland. But not many Qianrongese are saddened by this, as they were prepared for a Qianrongese loss in this match. Qianrongese fans say that because they were able to play some role in eliminating Luziyca from the Coupe, they are satisfied with the results.

Alawite militias, supported by Sakatian airstrikes, capture crucial city from Caliphate terrorists

Sala'a, SAHA - Shia and Alawite militias, supported by the Sakatian Air Force, capture the crucial city of Kharji from the Caliphate terrorist group. The city lies along the main road between Attahbad and Jiddah and is a crucial supply line for the Caliphate. The Caliphate, however, has been reported to have used aircraft to supply certain areas under their control. A Sakatian built T-82 transport aircraft was used to supply fighters inside the city of al-Arkub last week, following the advance by the Caliphate into the city. The Caliphate successfully captured the city on Wednesday after 4 days of fighting. The aircraft was supplied to Saha in 1989 by North Sakatia and was captured at Jiddah airport by the Caliphate. The Sakatian Air Force conducted their first airstrikes against the Caliphate on Tuesday, following the arrival of a squadron of JA-29 attack aircraft.

The Sakatian Armed Force Group Saha (Sak Forces Saha) first arrived last week with two companies of paratroopers arriving in Salaa. They were followed by additional equipment and supplies. On April 4, a squadron of JA-39 attack aircraft arrived at Salaa Regional Airport and began preparing for strikes against the Caliphate.

Following the Caliphate's sweeping advance through Saha, the Sahagi government collapsed when the Caliphate seized Attahbad and beheaded the Sahagi leader Asoud al-Abahi. On April 5th, the majority of former government soldiers and allied militia arrived in Salaa. A new administration was formed, primarily around Badri al-Basmati. Basmati is a influential alawite government official. He served on the 'Council', the Saha Arab Republic's chief decision body and close advisers to the Leader of Saha, from 2004 to 2012. He formed the Alawite National Army last week and many of its personnel are former Sahagi Republican Guards Force soldiers and officers.

According to the Eastern Cooperation Organization's Cultural Affairs Chief Mikhail Yushenko, the situation in Saha threatens to devolve into a sectarian conflict, pitting Sunni versus Shia. The Sakatian government is being accused by human rights organisations of supporting Alawite and Shi'ite Militias in Saha. The conflict mirrors Saha's neighbors, Irvadistan and Kraq, where all three were run by Shia governments. The only difference is that Saha has a Shi'ite majority. Influential Shi'ite clerics have ordered all able bodied men to fight the Caliphate, only worsening the sectarian conflict. The Free Sahagi Army, dispite being overwhelmingly Sunni, is seen as weak and is expected to collapse if the Caliphate launches a major offensive on their territory.

On Tuesday, a disgruntled Caliphate commander seized a string of villages outside Fak, declaring the Caliphate to be "evil" and vowing "jihad" against the Caliphate.

Reaction to football losses: a new yardstick in measuring civilization?
Luzzies, Michillians, civilization and football
Opinion piece by Kuo Zhang
In this world where civilizations clash, people always slam each other for declaring one's culture to be superior than the other without proper evidence to back it up. Well, perhaps there is now a legit way to distinguish the uncivilized peoples from civilized nations - by looking at how they react when their football team loses in the Coupe D'Esquarium.
Image
Kuo Zhang

Many Namorese paid attention to the ongoing Coupe D'Esquarium in Michillies. All Esquarians were shocked when two of the top contenders who were considered to most likely make it to the very top - the Luziycan "Emperors" and the Michillians - were eliminated at some point in the Coupe. The Luziycans, as we know, fared hilariously bad, and ended up dead last in their group which prevented them from making the Round of 16. The Constitution reported riots in Luziyca following the "Emperors"' loss. Their headlines for the article which announced the unfortunate event was this: "PERKELE! PERKELE! PERKELE!" They decried the loss, cursed at the team for not doing well and then went on to call the Qianrongese "team" [sic] "subhumans." We get it, the Luziycans totally freaked out.

The Michillians did slightly better and, like the Namorese, made it to the Ro16. But in an unexpected turn of events, the Michillians lost to Francilie in their own game. What followed was a series of bloody rioting unprecedented in the country's history that left a few people dead. Nobody, not even I who knew of Michillies as a country that values football, expected Michillians to react to their loss in such a way that's deplorable, to say the least.

Compare the Luzzies' and Michillians' reaction to their respective CdE eliminations to how we Namorese reacted to when our own Liberators were kicked out of the Coupe after losing to the Aininians - gracefully - in our first Ro16 match. There was no rioting in Namor. No Molotov cocktails. No riot police was summoned. People simply bowed their heads in disappointment, gave our boys in Michillies an encouraging pat in the back and shook the Aininians' hands.

That can't make sense, right? The score for the Namor-Ainin match was 1-0, Ainin. The Michillies-Francilie match ended in a 1-0 victory for Francilie. The scores are exactly the same. So you may be asking: why can't the Michillians just suck it up and move on like we do? Same for the Luziycans, although they weren't in the exact same situation. Still though: the Luzzies can't win the CdE. Alright, we get it. Now go home, stop crying, and do something productive for all humankind. Nobody wants to see you breaking into stores to express your anger over how a stupid football game ended up, let alone hear you whining about it. The more you riot and loot, the more evidence others have - evidence I have - to bluntly assert that Luziycans and Michillians are pathetically uncivilized. Come on, there's got to be more important stuff worth looting over, and the sport of kicking stuff around is not one of them.

Just a note that if you think I'm alone in holding this opinion, I'm not. Take a look at what one Pavonistadian said in reaction to the news that four - four lives were lost in Michillian football violence: "What sort of idiot would go wild over a CdEIV loss, cause nationwide distress, and kill four people?" Hat tip to the guy who summed up everything.

So from now on, I propose that the entire world adopts one single method in determining whether one civilization is civilized or not - examine how one people reacts to a loss their team suffers in a football match. I think we'll get results that are clear and indisputable. Someone's inevitably going to not like what I just said, but that's only because some humans are unwilling to get over the sensitivity.

Kibbeh Soldiers Preparing for National Day Celebrations in Rabul
10 April 2015
Referendum on Conscription to be Held in June According to the Prime Minister's Office

Rabul, Kibbehstan -- The Prime Minister's Office has announced a referendum will be held in June on whether to abolish or maintain the National Service (conscription) in Kibbehstan where all eighteen-year-old male citizens not attending university are expected to serve in the Kibbeh Defence Forces for two years in a permanent position while university students only serve as reservists but for five years instead of two.

The announcement comes only five days after the President of the Kibbeh Republic, Émile Tibi, claimed the government had commissioned a report on the feasibility of a professional military which did not rely on conscripts of any form to function.

Mr Tibi, a vocal opponent of conscription in its current state an consequently the National Service, has long called for reforms to be made by the Ministry of Defence in order to reduce the Kibbeh Defence Forces' budget while increasing the national military's efficiency and efficacy in times where the popular opinion seems to be against the current state-of-affairs. Recent polls have shown nearly 60% of all Kibbeh males believe it [conscription] is an ''unnecessary waste of their time'' while also being a ''terrible and expensive form of showing one's patriotism, nationalism and dedication to the country''. Nearly 30% believe it is ''unfair'' that women are not required to serve in the Kibbeh Defence Forces at all allowing them to enter the labour market earlier-on while also having more time to study and relax during weekends and holidays when male university students are typically expected to report to their nearest military base.

Meanwhile, the Kibbeh Defence Forces say it is opposed to the abolition of conscription claiming it is not yet capable of maintaining military made-up solely of volunteers. Instead, it calls for the inclusion of women in the National Service while making-room for more exemptions and the abolition of the ''compulsory reserve service'' for males in institutions of higher education.

Only time will tell but it seems the National Service in Kibbehstan is living on borrowed time; the men will almost certainly vote against it to liberate themselves from the ''shackles'' of conscription while the women will do the same but only to prevent the Ministry of Defence from conscripting them too!

Editorial: Why the home crowd will be supporting Lyonsland tonight
Francilie gave Michillies and the rest of the world a shock when they defeated the home crowd, leading to riots and even deaths. Now it seems as if the Warriors will have plenty more support tonight

Lyonsland is in the quarter finals. of the Coupe d'Esquarium. The final eight.
Image
Scenes like this have been a common sight since Wednesday night.
I know, I can't believe it either. However, Lyonsland's shocking success is no longer the focus point of the competition for many. On Wednesday, while Lyonsland were playing their tight game against Scotia, Francilie shocked everyone including themselves by knocking out the hosts and fan favourite Michillies of the Coupe. What followed was an unprecedented explosion of rioting, looting, hooliganism and mass chaos on the streets of the Serene Republic's cities. The world looked in shock as cameras showed the unbelievable scenes on our TV's, laptops and smartphones. If you're a footy fan or know a bit about Michillians then you'll know they love the game of football, but no one could expect how they'd show their love for it in the way they did. The actions of thousands of enraged nationalists have resulted in four deaths, hundreds of injuries, thousands of arrests and millions of florins worth in damage.

Why should we, the Lyonese, care about this, especially tonight? Well, Lyonsland will have to play the now-hated Francilian Coqs in tonight's quarter final in Palmarro. It is believed that the arena may be a good bit empty, whether that be Michillians who had tickets that are now in police custody or Francilians petrified that they will be shot on sight for dawning their team's jersey. Whatever will happen to the how many seats that won't be occupied for tonight's bout, it hasn't stopped the Lyonese fans' excitement for the match. It seems as if tonight, every Michillian will put aside their anger to become Lyonese for 90 minutes, at least. Every team, international observer and broadcasting crew have been granted police protection travelling to and from Palmarro today, but it didn't seem like the Lyonese needed it. As we drove by in our car, clearly marked in the TVL logo and Lyonese flag, we were cheered and honoured by several Michillian passers-by as we headed for Stadio das Angèlas in the heart of the city. Once we had arrived, we took the opportunity to interview some Michillians on their thoughts. Keep in mind, this is a very nationalist country and are very proud and patriotic, so if there's any team that can knock out their enemies - or in this case the team that knocked them out, then they will cheer them on 100%. When we came up to some of them and told them we were from the Lyonese media, they were more then happy to speak to us. Some began shouting basic Lyonese phrases as well as the patriotic phrase "Ull Lejonsland" ("Up Lyonsland", a term to show one's support for Lyonsland). They weren't the only ones shouting it: #UllLejonsland was top trending in Michillies earlier today.

We must keep in mind that this isn't Francilie's fault at all. The Coqs played as they were supposed to, no team comes into this tournament just to purposely lose to the hosts so they'll be happy. That isn't how football works. I without a doubt do not condone any violence relating to sport, especially when the lives of people are lost in the process. TVL and most sensible people share these views on the riots, too. Of course I want my team to win, and if I'm brutally honest I think we will beat them. If we don't win this match, not only will the rioting continue, but it will get worse and we will be to blame. It's a shame, really. The actions of 11 Francilian football players playing a game like any determined team would have been demonised by Michillians who have blamed it on the 70 million or so inhabitants of Francilie. However, it's also noted that the actions of a couple thousand hooligans have also been blamed on a nation of 80 million. To be fair to the Michillian police and government, they have done a great job in dealing with these people bringing shame upon a very beautiful nation. I just hope that whatever the outcome tonight, no one has to pay for their life for it.

Tonight's quarter final match between Francilie and Lyonsland airs live on TVL 1, TVL 1 HD and TVL International with coverage starting at 20:30 (Lyonese Time), with the match starting at 21:00.

CdE IV AININIAN COYOTES NARROWLY DEFEATED, PAVONISTADE MOVES TO SEMIFINALS
Triple Colors end match 3-2, will encounter Lyonsland in semifinals

Date: April 10, 2015

Image
Manager Lawrense Dawn in celebration

Nathen Sacherisen believed that "if our lake of luck is going to dry up, it has to be when we face Ainin." He have alerted Pavonistadians that the Triple Colors "have to plan extensively and engage in a battle of wits to run over the Coyotes", and that "either we win, or we lose." The former was the result of today's match, although the Aininians could have easily won the day. A score coming soon before the end of the second half gave Pavonistade the chance to move to the semifinals.

Throughout the game, numerous attempts by both sides to score have been denied. The Triple Colors' first goal was netted in the 29th minute, when captain Frederik Kamef bypassed Aininian barriers and Yves Fontaine's tactics. In retaliation, the Coyotes volleyed past Sean Johansen in the 43rd minute. Donald Barbetou scored the second goal for the Pavonistadians at 65', soon after receiving the ball from Evan Samntona (who, in turn, got a successful pass from assistant captain Nelsen Vanadie). Again, Ainin was compensated when Emmanuel Victor booted the ball into the Pavonistadian goal at the 83rd minute.

This tie was broken by our team as Sacherisen successfully attacked in the 89th minute. This 3-2 victory for the Triple Colors would prevent the Aininians from advancing. Besides from a narrow Pavonistadian victory, the match was notable in that Nathen Sacherisen tripped one of the Aininian players. This gave him the reward of a yellow card. Donald Barbetou faced the same fate because he repeated Sacherisen's mistake with another player.

Despite the possibility that the Coyotes could have prevailed instead, manager Lawrense Dawn celebrated tremendously after the Pavonistadians won the match. He claimed "the fear and speculation by both our team and our supporters back home were confirmed: the Aininians formed a fierce team, and we would have to use some neat strategies to gain a victory. [...] and whatever we used in the match against the Coyotes seemed to have given us the upper edge. I am indeed in a mixture of excitement and surprise."

"I feared that the Triple Colors would lose to the Coyotes if that is what destiny awaited," said Sacherisen. "The fear that our lake of luck would completely dry up escalated as the match progressed and as we originally tied on two different occasions. We could have given up and thrown the towel, but as usual we kept everything together and we stayed to confront the Coyotes as one. That's how we scored that one goal in the 89th minute."

Centre-back Keith Parsonis gave high expectations for the Triple Colors. "Now that we have won our quarterfinals, we will go up one step further and win our semifinals. Then after that, we will go one step further again and win the fourth Coupe d'Esquarium. [...] the risk never stops building itself up, but so does the endurance and the courage that our team is known for at home. The next stop would be Lyonsland, and you probably know what's going to happen in that match."

As Parsonis mentioned, the semifinal player that will encounter Pavonistade would be Lyonsland. It became the victor of its own quarterfinal match after defeating Michillies' killer (Francilie) 3-1. Considering Lyonsland's crushing victories in the group stages, some people believed that the Lyonnese will put an end to Pavonistade's path to the Coupe. Others rejected that prediction and believed that the Triple Colors will be able to play the finals with either Vyvland or luck-endowed Vjaarland.

"To be one of the quarterfinalists would be a great move," Dawn declared. "To defeat Lyonsland would be a greater move, and to finish off the other finalist would be a greater move. That's right, a greater move. We can only improve from everything that we take part in."

Supreme People's Court rules against Peitoa
Ministry of Education's "gradual immersion" must be carried out: SPC
April 10, NMR 2375

NAMO - The Supreme People's Court ruled against Peitoa in the case regarding the Ministry of Education's "gradual immersion" program. It stated that the Ministry has every right to carry out the program to Peitoa, and that Peitoa has no legislative authority to prevent the action.
Image
Usually busy streets of Novi Namor, Peitoa are being occupied by protesters
rallying against the Ministry of Education's program that seeks to introduce
the Tzishin script into Peitoa

Peitoa sued Minister of Education Ming Huan after he introduced a program known as "gradual immersion" which will introduce Tzishin script into schools across the district, as well as promote use of the script until it becomes the official script of the archipelago as it is in the rest of Namor. The program has been met with protests from ultra-nationalist and localist groups who prefer to keep the Tziroma script which is currently used. Peitoa sued on the grounds that the Ministry of Education is curtailing freedom of expression through "gradual immersion."

Chief Justice Shou Falu delivered the ruling. In a statement, he rejected Peitoa's claims that introducing Tzishin stifles freedom of expression.

"Upon examining the Ministry of Education's policy, the court cannot find any evidence whatsoever that indicates the Ministry has an intention to prevent Peitoa's residents from using the old script. The program is introducing a widely used popular script into Peitoa, but that does not equate to forcing citizens to use the script immediately. During the ministry's outlined 'transition period' and after said period, Peitoans are still allowed to use the old script without facing penalties."

The court added that as a district which comprises almost entirely of ethnic Kannei who speak Standard Namorese, Peitoa does not have legislative authority to prevent the Ministry of Education from executing "gradual immersion."

"This is not a case where one ethnic minority group or an autonomous republic is facing pressure to abandon its heritage. The old script, although vastly different from the new script, is a part of the Namorese language. It is not a property of the district government of Peitoa or the preceding regime. The district of Peitoa does not have the legislative authority to prevent the Ministry of Education from introducing a script which has already been accepted by most Namorese as the legitimate script of the Namorese language."

Peitoa's governor Yong Kang (PF) expressed disappointment at the court's ruling but said "because the court said so, we have no choice but to move on and accept the Ministry [of Education]'s policy." But out in the streets, Republican loyalist and "localist" protesters who are camping out on public property say they are standing their ground until "gradual immersion" is dropped. Police estimate that 50,000 protesters have so far gathered around the district legislature building, while protest organizers say 130,000 people turned out. PTH will provide continued coverage of the ongoing protests.

Namorese Minister of Education Ming Huan introduced what he called the "gradual immersion" plan for Peitoa. According to Ming, Tzishin will be taught alongside Tziroma in Peitoa's schools. The Tzishin script will be widely promoted across the archipelago, and it will become the official script of Peitoa when Peitoans are comfortable with using it. There is no set time frame for when this program is supposed to be complete, as Ming said Peitoans can learn Tzishin at their own pace so long as they learn it in the end.
