AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF NAMOR
Regarding the treatment of the Otekian people

4 February 2015 Last updated 18:37 Geadish Standard Time
Dagposten publishes a letter signed by 100 politicians and celebrities in Geadland to protest the Namorese government's treatment of the Otekian people.

To Your Excellency, the President-General of the People's Republic of Namor,

We, the undersigned, write this letter to you to petition for a fairer treatment of the Otekian people. We hope that our concerns are also heeded by the government of the People's Republic, and by the Namorese people.

Firstly, we must state with emphasis that we condemn all violent and cruel actions that have been carried out in the name of Otekian separatism. We condemn any group that condones, assists or carries out atrocities to this end. We condemn any attempt to establish an Otekian state that is neither free nor democratic. It is understandable that the Namorese government has had to make difficult moral decisions when dealing with the threats posed by such groups. Nevertheless, it is important that certain rights are respected at all times.

We recognise that many Otekian people consider themselves to be a nation with a separate identity to the Namorese nation, and that they should have a right to self-determination. We say this in the interest of democracy. After all, it is not democratic if a nation is forced to endure a domestic government that its citizens do not want to have in the long run. For the same reason, we believe that no nation should be forced to remain part of another country if its citizens do not, in the long run, wish to remain part of it.

All of us below have many varied political convictions, but we all have a common belief that freedom of speech is inalienable. We therefore are united opposing all Namorese laws and policies, including the Anti-Secession Law, that prevent Otekian separatists from operating peacefully within a democratic system. We deplore the fact that some Otekians have been harassed or punished for stating their views. This includes Manya Valerija and Csedomir Pantejmonov. It also includes many others who did not make the headlines.

We further criticise government policies in Namor that have worked to undermine the national identity of the Otekian people. These have permitted and (in some cases) encouraged a large influx of outsider Namorese into the region, leaving people who identify themselves with the Otekian nation as a minority in their own homeland. Doing so has complicated the dispute and made it impossible to solve with a simple referendum. Other government policies have also targeted the culture and religion of the Otekian people. No democracy should exert this type of compulsion on any citizens.

We call for the government to listen to the genuine grievances of the Otekian people and to implement policies that better respect their human rights.

We wish your nation a free, peaceful and prosperous future.

OOC: I couldn’t come up with 100 names, but they included:
  • 22 members of the House of Representatives, including Georgus den Holm, Silfja Milena, Jüte Rosengard, Johan Smid and Sergei Taganski*. Only one (Den Holm) is a party leader; no cabinet ministers signed the letter.
  • Martin Hammerschöld, Commissioner of Leghel and leader of the Swedish People’s Party
  • Jaan Torbjörnsen, Commissioner of Solned
  • Emilia Brokmann, President of the National Federation of Labour Unions
  • Former prime ministers Edvard Johansen and Gunnhild Måssendal.
  • Political commentators, including Alek Bloom, Simon Josef Bloom and Arvid Kulmo.
  • A few religious leaders, including Sornov Meskorov*, Lutheran Catholic patriarch.
  • Musicians, including Dirk Andersen and Karl Lyngstein.
  • Actors, including Alison Kesia*, Jakob Litten* and Dafid Mauritsen.
  • A few academics, including Johan-Peter Blumendal and (already mentioned) Arvid Kulmo.
  • Various other celebrities and public figures.
Signatories with Luziycan or Otekian ethnicity/connections are marked with an asterisk (*). Karl Lyngstein was the only one to offer his signature in Namor, where he is currently on tour.

BREAKING: King Rikard has "cancerous illness"
Image

Last updated 00:18 LWT, 5 February 2015

Ettsten House has just announced that King Rikard IV of Lyonsland, the Lyonese Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth has a "cancerous illness" and that he will be "refraining from most public events for some time". The announcement follows some months of confusion and worry among the public over the King, who has been notably absent from most public appearances over the past few months. He was last seen in October, attending a special ceremony marking 785 years since the Battle of Ettsten, in which the Kingdom of Ettsten assumed full control of Lyonsland.

King Rikard became King of the Commonwealth following the death of King Bhillem in January 2004, who died himself just a day after Rikard's mother, Princess Margaret. Rikard was 45 when he was officially coronated in May that year, and will turn 56 this day next month. He married Princess Dördrö (Deirdre) in 1986 in a lavish ceremony and later the couple welcomed two children into the House: Prince Ericc (born 1992) and Princess Aʃlinn (Ashling, born 1995). Both children, now adults, have been noted as the "Selfie Royals" for using social media to interact with their subjects and for their "connection" to young people.

The House has declined to comment further on the type of cancer or the seriousness of the King's health. No word on a possible abdication of the throne to Prince Ericc was mentioned by the house either.

QIANRONGESE POLITICIANS AND CELEBRITIES ADD THEIR NAMES TO GEADISH OPEN LETTER PROTESTING NAMORESE ACTIONS IN THE OTEKI REGION
by LANG ZHOU-MA - FEBRUARY 4 2015
YUCHENG, QIANRONG - Qianrongese political officials and celebrities are adding their names to an open letter directed at Namorese President-General Fu Wen, originally written and signed by numerous famous Geadish individuals, urging serious changes in the way that the People's Republic of Namor runs the Oteki region, which it calls the Txotai Autonomous Republic. The letter expresses a reaffirmation of the basic human rights of the Otekian nation, rejects the use of terrorism and hacktivism to achieve the goals of the Otekian people, and urges the repeal of undemocratic laws that repress Otekian independence activists.

The open letter's text ran:
To Your Excellency, the President-General of the People's Republic of Namor,

We, the undersigned, write this letter to you to petition for a fairer treatment of the Otekian people. We hope that our concerns are also heeded by the government of the People's Republic, and by the Namorese people.

Among the Geadish groups and individuals who have signed onto the list are Georgus den Holm, Silfja Milena, Jüte Rosengard, Johan Smid, Sergei Taganski, Martin Hammerschöld, Jaan Torbjörnsen, Emilia Brokmann, Gunnhild Måssendal, Edvard Johansen, Alek Bloom, Simon Josef Bloom, Arvid Kulmo, Sornov Meskorov, Dirk Andersen, Karl Lyngstein, Alison Kesia, Jakob Litten, Dafid Mauritsen, Johan-Peter Blumendal, and a selection of other prominent Geadish individuals from across Geadish society, including legislators, academics, musicians, and actors.

The letter quickly drew attention in Qianrong, which has Esquarium's third-largest Otekian community, behind the Otekian expat community in Luziyca and the Otekians living under Namorese occupation. Shortly after the letter was released, major Qianrongese individuals began adding their names to the list.

The Qianrongese individuals on the list include:
• Li Jian-Zheng, National Transitional Council Chairman, fmr. Acting Chancellor, fmr. National Assembly Speaker

• Siemyscza Vlasinov, Otekian Qianrongese Association leader
• other prominent OQA members, incl. Myhrodniv Klitishko, Mikhail Doneskov, Sobiemira Pavlovsky, Isayah Yekaterov, Arseniy Aleksandrov, Yulia Azarenko, & Yevgenia Tymarov
• Otekian community leaders, incl. • Teorino Pagsabwatan, University of Pangingisda professor
• Various Yinglidao figures incl. Patriarch Lian Tong-Pi, Cardinal Xiu Jung-Ming, 3 other cardinals, and 37 members of the College of Bishops

Numerous other local officials signed the list, as well as numerous other people. Many of the people on the list who were celebrities based around their presence in a band or orchestra or television show or film were left out for the sake of brevity. Several labor leaders and businessmen have also been left off. This is simply because the large numbers of Qianrongese political leaders on the list can actually have an effect on Namor, pressuring it into changing its ways and respecting the rights and liberties of the Otekian people and nation. The list may gain further support from the leaders of other countries that support the Otekian cause, and also from the leaders of other areas of the Otekian exile community. The Otekian government-in-exile and Otekian National Coalition have not yet responded.

The Namorese government and Txotai AR have also not yet responded to the original letter or to the added signatures. However, it is safe to assume that Fu Wen and Vang Jun will simply dismiss the letter as they have dismissed past complaints over the Namorese abuse of the Otekian people and its repressive Anti-Secession Act, which often were used as models for the techniques of the defunct Free Democratic Republic. However, this letter shows that people are realizing about the horrors of what is for all intents and purposes Namorese imperial rule over Oteki. International pressure towards Namor is obviously mounting, which may force Namor to treat Otekians as human beings with legitimate goals, not stereotyped caricatures worthy of little more than target practice.

The "Letter of Millions" signed by countless officials
BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Geadish and Qianrongese people have over the past few days been signing what has come to be known as the "Letter of Millions." Signed by a hundred Geads and about a thousand Qianrongese, this letter's release has been met with a strong reaction within Luziyca.

The "Letter of Millions" reads as follows:

To Your Excellency, the President-General of the People's Republic of Namor,

We, the undersigned, write this letter to you to petition for a fairer treatment of the Otekian people. We hope that our concerns are also heeded by the government of the People's Republic, and by the Namorese people.

Upon release, there has been a strong reaction: today, Chief Executives Kung Alicia of Nantai and Embla Borghild of Inleda, Governors Mitt Drugov of Gijirokastra, Diana Schmidt of Samaria, Lily Krovseen of Rutland, Nisyev Rasheed of Kashui, Adam Shudrov of Upper York, Hugo Glasov of Lower York, Sergei Hintonov of Trelawney, Justin Krovich of Southern Luziyca, William Makar of Lazar, Simon Kristenseen of Bethlehem, and Ted Vorokovich of Pustinia have signed this Letter of Millions. Also, Vice-President Nikolai Serhoskav has signed.

In addition, Pope Stephan V has signed, as well as 150 congressmen, 35 prominent CEOs including the CEO of Karshev's and PNK, about 3,500 Luziycan celebrities, and 1,500 state officials.

However, Mikhail Shumev, Natasha Roman, Valeriy Anisim, Yerskov Lhego, and Kolya Vitalik from the Otekian diaspora, as well as many prominent Otekian celebrities and CEOs within society, with many in the Otekian diaspora endorsing the letter, but highly doubts that much will change in Oteki.

Namorese on the move as the nationwide travel rush begins
NAMO, CAPITAL DISTRICT - To some, this is a time to return home and celebrate the New Year with family and friends; for others, it is a time of absolute chaos. Namor's 30-day "New Year Travel Rush" has begun.

Around this period, millions of people travel by air, rail and road. Many who have been working away from home are taking advantage of this moment to leave their workplaces, head home and reunite with their families. Because of the hectic nature of this period, many have pre-ordered train tickets, bus ride tickets and air tickets since the beginning of January - some ordered as early as mid-December.

Min Shui, 28, is working in an office in Namo. His family lives in Xhishin and he was one of the hundreds of passengers on board the first train headed for the Southern Namorese municipality, which is a four hour trip by rail. He pre-ordered his train tickets on New Years' Day, but hundreds had already ordered before he did.

"It doesn't matter. All that matters is that I have a ticket and I can go home," he said. "Time to go home and spend dinner with my parents."

The Ministry of Transportation said that this year will see 1.9 billion trips on road, 4.5 percent higher than trips on road made in last year's travel rush. National highways are packed with cars already, and this will inevitably cause problems on the road, including but not limited to vehicle accidents and highway congestion. Last year, three people were killed when a car was traveling on a road, slipping out of control and crashed into a wall. Hundreds of car accidents were reported in last year's travel rush.

"The possibility of incidents like these happening is certainly going to rise with all this movement," said Minister of Transportation Seng Zo. "So we are asking travelers to be cautious, look out for themselves and report anything suspicious to authorities."

The Ministry has called on all district and autonomous republic governments to better enforce drunk driving and distracted driving laws on the road. Signs that has creative slogans like "Put that phone down or you may not see your family again," "For Harmony, Drink Not" have been put up across the country.

"We're hoping the number of incidents will decrease this year," said Seng.

Namorese New Year, known universally as the Lunar New Year, begins on February 19. The New Year travel rush begins on February 4 and will last for 30 days before ending March 6. The Central Council has its last session of the month on February 17 before leaving for the three-week recess.

Scotian National Day celebrations across the country

ABERLEFEN, SCOTIA - Two hundred and twenty-four years have passed since the War of Independence that led to Scotia's freedom from Antelopian Namor, and the celebrations commemorating the struggle have gone on throughout the rest of the day. In Aberlefen, some slight showers didn't dampen the mood of the crowds, still celebrating the recent victory by Scotia and her partners in pacifying the (former) separatist-controlled Ocelot Isles, as they gather in the city's Royal Mile to watch the annual National Day Parade.

As the country continues its celebrations all through the night, here's a slideshow on all the festivities across Aberlefen and all across the country.

King John IX and his wife Grace make their way to the reviewing box near the esplanade before the parade starts at 10:00 Aberlefen time.

Soldiers of the 2nd Royal Scotian Dragoons stand at attention as the flag of Scotia is being raised atop Aberlefen Castle and the National Anthem is played

Image
Over 11,000 troops marched across the Royal Mile as part of the parade festivities, the largest since the accession of the King in 1976.

Image
Also setting new records is the mechanized portion of the parade, as over 149 military vehicle units, including tanks, mobile artillery, among others, et a record for the number of military vehicles taking part in the parade.

Image
The parade featured 110 Feà missile launchers driving across the Royal Mile. The parade also showcased Scotia's newest in ballistic missile technology, with 20 newly-upgraded Poibleog-M ICBMs in the parade.

Fighter jets of the Royal Ceremonial Air Guard perform above the Royal Mile. Some 224 planes and helicopters from the Royal Scotian Air Force took part in the parade, one for each year since Scotia's independence

Anna Sørensen will be Sworn in as PM Tommorow.

ImageSørensen at a recent press conference.

Boswald - Anna Sørensen, the Leader of the Christian Democratic Alliance, will be sworn in as Prime Minister of Greonterp and the Head of Parliament tomorrow.

This comes after PM Lily Van Boelle's resignation, who resigned weeks ago due to the possibility of a motion of no confidence. Lily Van Boelle had the option of allowing a snap election to happen or resignation.

Lily Van Boelle, who was once our most popular PM, hit approval ratings of less than 30% because of perceived failure in handling the Leeuwarden independence referendum.

However, Anna Sørensen has already garnered large amounts of popularity for her outspokenness, her promise to give Greonterp a "larger voice", and because of her liberal positions which appeal to Labour and Liberal Forum voters.

"I'm optimistic that Greonterp will continue to be united and strong under my premiership. In the last month, we've suffered from a lack of unity, uneasiness regarding a referendum, and protests against NOSDO membership and intervention in the Ocelot Isles. Our society is polarized, and I will change that," said Anna Sørensen.

She has also promised to deliver a controversial vote to change the name of the Christian Democratic Alliance, which is the largest party in parliament. A liberal member of the party, Sørensen thinks the name isn't "inclusive" to all.

Sørensen will take office tomorrow morning, becoming the third female Prime Minister of Greonterp. Though Van Boelle will be out of a job tomorrow, she will continue to be Greonterp's representative at the Esquarian summit.

Vestmarkic Corporation Pollutes International Water

Image
The largest environmental scandal to happen has the International community asking "why." Vestmark, a liberal nation with some of the least amounts of regulation on businesses in the world, has come under fire for allowing corporations to dump toxic nuclear waste in large containers into the ocean as an easy way to dispose of them. Yesterday it has been discovered by a private investigation that Geftig Ahfrending, a Vestmarkic corporation that specializes in the elimination of toxic substances, had been dumping radioactive waste into the Northern Sea. Investigators say that the company has been doing this for two weeks already after traditional methods of nuclear waste disposal have become too expensive to use. Geftig Ahfrending has justified their dumping on the basis that the radioactive material has been secured into a barrel where it cannot leak, however experts have doubted that the barrel would completely stop leakage in the long run, and many plants, fish, and even people could be put in danger by the toxic waste. Experts also say that the ocean currents would eventually cause some of the smaller, lighter barrels to shore on countries in or south of the Northern Sea, such as Nevanmaa, Geadland, and Namor.

Prime Minister Sven Edvardsson has expressed his concern over the matter directly, stating that "this shouldn't have ever happened," and "Vestmark should finally acknowledge that these 19th century laissez-faire policies do not work anymore in the 21st." However, liberal godhar have disagreed, blaming the scandal instead on defunct market forces caused by foreign governments and confidently believing that private companies and organizations will attempt to track down the barrels and retrieve them. Others are more blunt on the matter, particularly godhar in the Vestmark First party who do not consider toxic dumping a problem if it doesn't affect Vestmark's sovereignty or reputation. "Our people have the right to dump wherever we please" remarks one jingoistic Vestmarker. "And nobody else can deny our freedom otherwise."

Constitutional Court Approves Independence Referendum
Referendum to be held on 27 February

The Federal Constitutional Court in Leighton.

LEIGHTON - The Federal Constitutional Court affirmed the legality of the Vesperia independence referendum earlier today, setting out the final details of the referendum which will be held on the 27th of February.

The ballot will be a simple yes or no question, with the question being written as "Should Vesperia be an independent country?" which will required to be in both English and Vesperian, "Borde Vesperum vara ett självständigt land?" The ballots will be hand counted and polling stations will be open from 8:00 until 21:00. Eligibility for the referendum will include, Arkiasian citizen who are resident in Vesperia, members of Parliament who were resident in Vesperia and service personnel/government officials serving in Arkiasis or overseas with the Arkiasis Armed Forces or the Government of Arkiasis who are registered to vote in Vesperia. A clause allowing Vesperians who live outside of Vesperia (including the 400,000 Vesperians who reside in other area of Arkiasis) to vote was removed due to complexity and administrative issues. The voting age has also been reduced from 18 to 16, as it is VPP policy to reduce the voting age for all elections in Vesperia.

Both the federal government and the Vesperian government are now expected to sign an agreement finalizing the details of the referendum and authorizing the temporary transfer of legal authority to Vesperia to hold, organise and conduct the referendum.

Troy Brown promises further devolution powers for Vesperia

Prime Minister Troy Brown stated that in an event of a "no" vote, his government will work to grant further devolution powers to Vesperia, including mass reforms to the federal tax code that will "make sure that the people of Vesperia will pay their fair share, and not anymore than they have to."

The statement comes as recent polls have indicated that support for independence has grown in the past weeks to 49% supporting independence, 45% opposed, and 6% undecided. An unexpected downturn in the economy has also caused support for independence to rise.

Campaigning for the referendum is well underway with weekly rallies being held in multiple Vesperian cities both for and against independence. The "Yes Vesperia" campaign has so far received ₵1.5 million in donations while "Stronger United" has received ₵1.1 million.

Anti-referendum protest

After the conservative group Protect family collected enough signatures for a referendum to ban gay marriage, LGBT groups have organized protests on the streets of Dhomish cities. "We do not want 27 million people to decide how will our future look like" one of them said. "Marriage is the right of every human being, not a privilege of heterosexuals" he added.

The reactions of citizens are mostly negative. "These are anti-democratic protests. They are protesting against the referendum - the most direct form of democracy. Our homeland is a democratic country. The people have the right to decide what marriage is!" said one of the citizens.
"Traffic is stopped. I can not even get to the tram station because of these protesters. These fa*ots must be urgently removed" complained the 89 years old lady.

Anyway, next week voters will decide on the prohibition of gay marriage.
Gallup conducted a survey on all four issues required by conservatives and two questions required by trade unions. Here are the results:

Write Like PTH Week
Don't be alarmed! To mock the way that Namorese media writes Oteki as "Oteki", we will be taking a similar policy towards all references to Namor. Namor will be written as "Namor", Fu Wen will be "Namor's" "President General", and Namor will be under the "People's Republic". This will include the editing of direct quotes and text excerpts, because PTH has edited direct quotes and text excerpts that mention Oteki. This will continue from Wednesday February 4th to Wednesday February 11th, at which point everything will return to normal. Thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy Write Like PTH Week.

OSTRICH'S HEAD, MEET THE SAND
In an open letter being hailed as the Letter of Millions, Geadish, Qianrongese, Luziycan, and Otekian individuals put aside their political differences to urge that "Namor" end its abuse of the Otekian people.
"Namorese" state media company PTH, however, instead covered the possibility of traffic accidents on the "Namorese" New Year, pretending that the Letter of Millions didn't even exist.

Image
The flag of the Republic of Oteki, used by Otekian independence activists instead of the flag of the "Txotai AR".

YUCHENG, QIANRONG - FEBRUARY 5th, 2015 - While the Ministry of Information under the Free Democratic Republic of Qianrong was little more than a state media apparatus that fed carefully-written lies to the Qianrongese people, there were two good things that could be said for it: first, it would risk its bureaus being burnt down to report its version of the truth, as the Winter Rebellion proved. Second, even if it didn't want to report on an issue, it would at least technically make a report- albeit a vague, condemnatory one.

"Radiotelevision Namor"- the state media apparatus of the "People's Republic of Namor"- didn't even do as much as the Ministry of Information, though, after the "Namorese government" learned that hundreds of Otekian, Geadish, Luziycan, and Qianrongese politicians and celebrities had signed a letter urging an end to "Namorese" rule over Oteki(called the "Txotai Autonomous Republic" by the "Namorese government" that occupies the territory). The letter specifically attacked the Anti-Secession Act, a politically repressive act passed by the "Namorese Central Council" that allows the "Namorese" government to jail individuals who support Otekian independence. The Anti-Secession Act has been used as a model for similarly repressive laws in countries like Qianrong; the Free Democratic Republic's National Unity Act read so similarly to the Anti-Secession Act that some joked that the "People's Republic" could accuse the Free Democratic Republic of plagiarism. "Namorese" media didn't mention that either.

The text of the Letter of Millions ran as follows:
To Your Excellency, the "President-General" of the "People's Republic of Namor",

We, the undersigned, write this letter to you to petition for a fairer treatment of the Otekian people. We hope that our concerns are also heeded by the government of the "People's Republic", and by the "Namorese" people.

Firstly, we must state with emphasis that we condemn all violent and cruel actions that have been carried out in the name of Otekian separatism. We condemn any group that condones, assists or carries out atrocities to this end. We condemn any attempt to establish an Otekian state that is neither free nor democratic. It is understandable that the "Namorese government" has had to make difficult moral decisions when dealing with the threats posed by such groups. Nevertheless, it is important that certain rights are respected at all times.

We recognize that many Otekian people consider themselves to be a nation with a separate identity to the "Namorese nation", and that they should have a right to self-determination.

We therefore are united opposing all "Namorese" laws and policies, including the Anti-Secession Law, that prevent Otekian separatists from operating peacefully within a democratic system. We deplore the fact that some Otekians have been harassed or punished for stating their views. This includes Manya Valerija and Csedomir Pantejmonov. It also includes many others who did not make the headlines.

We further criticise "government" policies in "Namor" that have worked to undermine the national identity of the Otekian people. These have permitted and (in some cases) encouraged a large influx of outsider "Namorese" into the region, leaving people who identify themselves with the Otekian nation as a minority in their own homeland. Doing so has complicated the dispute and made it impossible to solve with a simple referendum. Other government policies have also targeted the culture and religion of the Otekian people. No democracy should exert this type of compulsion on any citizens.

We call for the "government" to listen to the genuine grievances of the Otekian people and to implement policies that better respect their human rights.

We wish your "nation" a free, peaceful and prosperous future.

Image
Is "Namorese President-General" Fu Wen more interested in traffic safety than in treating Otekians fairly?

Among the individuals who have signed the letter are Georgus den Holm, Martin Hammerschöld, Emilia Brokmann, Gunnhild Måssendal, Edvard Johansen, Sornov Meskorov, Li Jian-Zheng, Iligtas Katarungan, Zhong Fang-Ye, Seng Bu-Zhang, Wu Guo-Sun, Csedomir Pantejmonov, Siemyscza Vlasinov, Chang Wan-Hsiu, Lian Tong-Pi, Stephan V, Kung Alicia, Nikolai Serhoskav, Mikhail Shumev, Natasha Roman, Yorskov Lhego, Valeriy Anisim, and Kolya Vitalik. Many other individuals- politicians, actors, professors, singers, clergy, and businessmen among others- signed the letter. The letter has drawn massive support among the communities of the Otekians who were driven from their homeland by the "Namorese Liberation Army" when "Namor" invaded Oteki.

"Namor", however, has remained dead silent, as have its media sources. Luziycan newspaper the Constitution did conclude its article on the Letter of Millions by stating that "[Otekian exiles] highly doubt that much will change in Oteki," but this was undoubtedly quite more than the Otekian exile community expected. Generally "Namor" issues some dismissive and rude response and tries to justify its repressive policies. For example, the "Namorese Foreign Ministry" told devolution groups to- and we quote- "go hug Luziyca and leave us alone". Another good example is how the "Head of State" of the "Txotai Autonomous Republic", Vang Jun, said that he was "confident Valeriy Anisim will die of old age before his old dream is ever realized" on social media.

This time, however, they didn't even reject the letter out of hand or tell the Otekian people to kindly screw off. In fact, the "Namorese government" didn't say anything at all. They have issued no official response to the Letter of Millions. Even more astounding, "Namorese" media has refused to mention it. Instead of covering the fact that numerous prominent individuals had signed a letter urging that "Namor" treat Otekians as people, "Namorese" state media group Radiotelevision Namor- or PTH- covered the possibility of traffic accidents in this year's "Namorese" New Year travel rush. Because you know what's more important, more relevant, and more interesting that global geopolitics? Traffic PSAs.

Really? Really, PTH? You couldn't find anything less meaningful to cover? Has Fu Wen done nothing silly recently like run around on cars in a green suit, or spray whipped cream in his mouth, or have his followers play dress up, or take a photo in front of all his money? Is there no local news story in Namor about a dancing puppy or a father and daughter singing pop music together that you'd rather show? If you're going to ignore the news, PTH, at least make your replacement story interesting.

Unfortunately, "Namor" cannot just stick its head in the sand and wait for the grievances of the Otekian people to go away. As much as they might like to ignore the Letter of Millions, the Otekian government-in-exile, the Otekian National Coalition, the Otekian Qianrongese Association, and other such such groups and calls advocating for the peaceful creation of a truly democratic Oteki, this will prove to be a very harmful policy for the "Namorese government" in the long run. It damages its credibility and quite frankly makes it look scared to handle the issues. And this attempt to hide away by the "People's Republic" will likely only increase the calls of the Otekian people for liberty and justice in the Oteki region, exacerbating the issue. This strategy of ignoring the issues may reassure the "Namorese government" in the short term, it might have catastrophic consequences for them in a longer-term scenario. Then again, "Namor's" worst-case scenario may very well be the best-case scenario for the Otekian people when it comes to restoring their rights and their sovereignty, so the Otekians living in exile across Esquarium might see fit to encourage the "Namorese government" to just pretend they don't exist.

EDIT, 8:52 PM 2/5/15: Apparently we forgot to parenthesize "Namorese government" at one point in paragraph two. The error was pointed out by "Namorese" publication the Liberator, which acted as though that proved them right and us wrong. The error has since been fixed.

EDITORIAL Keep Calm And Carry On: The Letter Fu probably threw in the trash can
You probably heard of this publicity stunt Otekian separatists are pulling off right now. Well, we're going to get to the bottom of it
Наморайин | English

Time is running out for the forces sympathetic towards Otekian independence. Txotai's been in the embrace of the People's Republic for decades now - Breuvi Chikmurdof is but the past, the Knights have been disbanded, the "government-in-exile" is split in two, and the exiles living outside of Namor (we're talking about the generation of exiles who fled overseas when the rebellion was pacified) realize that there's a huge possibility they are going to die exiles. To them, this is definitely worrying, and they've tried every single tactic to steal Namorese territory - from bombing to putting up a crybaby show in front of the world for PR reasons - and yet here they are, not only unable to break into Namor, but broken themselves. They're so desperate, they're so worried...that they write a letter.
Image
People supportive of the Otekian independence movement hope that the
letter they wrote and signed will pressure Namor into submission

So about this letter - it was first seen on Geadland's National Daily Post, and was titled "An Open Letter to the President of Namor: Regarding Namorese policy towards the Otekian people." Apparently the letter mentioned that it does not condone separatist extremism, but alleges that Namor is responsible for a bunch of nasty things in post-rebellion Txotai, including the deprivation of certain rights from certain Otekians and doing things to destroy their culture. The letter urged President-General Fu to revisit the government's policy towards Otekian people (if there even is any) and concluded with signatures from a hundred or so Geadish individuals - some of them were religious clerics, others were ethnic Luziycans living in Geadland, while others are just people we never heard of.

It shouldn't be a big deal, considering there were many attempts by separatists and pro-separatists to write petitions and letters aimed at pressuring the government to stop doing something it never was. We at The Liberator initially declined to comment on this because we understand how babyish this is (some things are just not worth publicizing, as every journalist knows). But in the end we decided to, mainly because this letter managed to gain a significant number of signatures from two countries that historically have poor relations with Namor - Luziyca and Qianrong.

Not to mention Radio Free Qianrong (RFQ)'s recent attempt at mocking Namorese media's practice of putting quotation marks around certain words to express illegitimacy, which is merely an act of nagging Namo and, indirectly, someone in Namor to respond to this supposed public phenomenon that's gained steam over the past few hours. We realized that if PTH doesn't comment on this issue (and they certainly have the ethics not to because of, again, how immature this issue has become), someone from this country has to. And it's going to be us.

Our Take on the Letter

Basically, we think this letter is yet another publicity campaign, a smear offensive carried out by nosey-parker social (in)justice warriors who on the surface may seem they want to bring about change, but in reality they just want attention and tears running down the cheeks of deluded people.
Image
A peek at Radio Free Qianrong's "Write Like PTH Week:" It goes like this - everything that mentions Namor or Namorese is surrounded with quotation marks. Well, most things.

This paper can point out several flaws in the letter itself - the letter says that "it is not democratic if a nation is forced to endure a domestic government that its citizens do not want to have in the long run." This is by no means a false statement, but one flaw we just can't not point out is that there's no evidence (besides testimonies from exiles in their eighties or over) that ethnic Otekians - let alone any other ethnic minority group - don't like the administration of the Txotai Autonomous Republic. In the NMR 2355 Txotai referendum which paved the way for Txotai to become an autonomous republic, 82.3% of Otekians who took part voted "yes" in favor of Txotai becoming the autonomous republic it is today. And overall, 67.4% of referendum voters voted in favor of an autonomous republic. The referendum was commended by many governments (including Geadland where this letter originated from), and naturally the separatists weren't happy because they benefit from the image of an undemocratic Namorese administration.

The letter said "many Otekian people consider themselves to be a nation with a separate identity to the Namorese nation." That's not untrue - many Otekians living outside of Namor consider themselves to be this hypothetical "Otekian nation," and that's nearly 3-4 million people. But it's a one-sided truth - it's implying that every Otekian, including the 5 million Otekians living in Txotai or other places in Namor, don't consider themselves Namorese or favor independence. Once again, this is another dangerous generalization the separatists want to impose on world opinion - the generalization of all or most Otekians being supportive of separation. It's not true, and at most this is just an one-sided allegation one should study carefully before reaching a conclusion.

The letter went on and said "We further criticise government policies in Namor that have worked to undermine the national identity of the Otekian people...No democracy should exert this type of compulsion on any citizens." It basically criticized the influx of non-Otekians into the Txotai region, which did happen.

Except this happened in the rest of northern Namor, too. As part of Gelai Antelope's "Northern Development" plan, the government encouraged people down south to move north and do business there. This plan had nothing but economic motives, it wasn't some sinister conspiracy intended on intimidating ethnic minorities demographically. If it was, people would have moved into Txotai only - not Thalassa, not Arra (which was dominated by Kannei before the plan was initiated, by the way) - just Txotai, so the ethnic Otekian population would be clearly targeted and they would clearly know it. If the government did mean to diminish Otekians demographically, they would've done so on a smaller scale. No government ever overuses its own resources to accomplish something which could've been done with a few resources.

It's implied in the letter that such a movement of people from one place to another is unwarranted and illegal - but considering how most countries (except for some obvious ones) recognize Txotai as Namorese territory, people are allowed to move from one place to another. It's not like the government suddenly encouraged people to pack their bags, leave Namor and settle in...Chorea? Well, that's how the letter's portraying the situation as - a country sending its own people to move and dominate another country. Absurdity at its finest.

"We call for the government to listen to the genuine grievances of the Otekian people and to implement policies that better respect their human rights." Good news for the letter - Otekians make up around 70% of legislatures in prefectures of Txotai that are dominated by ethnic Otekians. Like all ethnic Otekians in Namor who bear Namorese citizenship, they are allowed to vote, run for office, and not only that, receive benefits they're entitled to as ethnic minorities (virtually everything a truly occupied population can't do). Kannei be envy, but Otekians' medical care costs are covered almost entirely by the government regardless of where the clinics they visit are. Some might say the benefits minority groups get are ridiculous, but if they were taken away another letter would've probably been written. It's one of these damned if you do, damned if you don't situations that one has to cope with from time to time.

And did the letter say "human rights?" Funny how they say that considering all Namorese citizens are entitled to all basic human rights written on the book; in fact, more rights than some of the countries whose people signed the letter.

Another note - it wasn't Namor that burned people at the stake as a form of capital punishment. Oh wait, that's not a human rights violation as it seems....

What should we do about the letter?

Trash it, throw it away, light it up with a match...there's a billion things we can do about this "Letter of Millions." But in some superhero comics, the protagonist cannot kill the antagonist because if he does, the antagonist wins because his point is proven. This is the situation we're having right now and here - if we discard the letter or ignore it, the separatists win because they're going to go all around and call us out for being "afraid" of facing them head-on.

But our point brought up in the very beginning of this editorial remains - why should we give this letter so much publicity? It's yet another publicity stunt that PTH rightfully didn't bring up in its headlines news because of its absurd motives. We're giving the separatists attention by giving attention to this letter, and if we give attention to this letter others will give attention to this letter, and the infection continues. And not before long, an issue that shouldn't really be so important is being regurgitated in a debate contest comprised of preschoolers.

The letter appears to be popular - but it's far from it. Most of the signatories are from the very few countries that still have relations with the so-called government-in-exile and have piss-poor relations with our country. In essence, it's a campaign belonging to a campaign that is led by our ideological enemies. We wouldn't be surprised if everyone in Luziyca (500 million people) and Qianrong (65 million people) signed this letter - it'll still be a "letter of millions" on the surface.

President-General Fu most likely threw the letter into the trash can, if he even saw the letter. Well, we did, and here's what we have to say - Keep Calm and Carry On.

Thus ends this editorial.

Opinion: The Liberator? More like the Lieberator.
Image
Sun Nicholas, a model

HIHANG, NANTAI - When I do not model in Gijirokastra or other major cities, I live in Hihang with my family, all Kannei Namorese in an old home, and I help my family out. And in recent days, the "Letter of Millions" has gotten the attention of many people within the region, and Namor ignored it. Thus, as I await for Namorese New Year, I've decided to contribute my 10c to rebut the lies that the Lieberator, the best generator of conspiracy theories everywhere had made regarding their response to the letter.

"Time is running out for the forces sympathetic towards Otekian independence," the Liberator writes. "Txotai's been in the embrace of the People's Republic for decades now - Breuvi Chikmurdof is but the past, the Knights have been disbanded, the 'government-in-exile' is split in two, and the exiles living outside of Namor (we're talking about the generation of exiles who fled overseas when the rebellion was pacified) realize that there's a huge possibility they are going to die exiles. They're so desperate, they're so worried...that they write a letter."

Yeah. The language right there seems downright unprofessional: sure, they have explained what has happened from the perspective of the Namorese, but they use the term 'crybaby.' It sounds quite childish, if you ask me, but I am not some pedantic person, so I shall move on to what they have to say.

"So about this letter - it was first seen on Geadland's National Daily Post," they continue, "[a]nd was titled 'An Open Letter to the President of Namor: Regarding Namorese policy towards the Otekian people.' Apparently the letter mentioned that it does not condone separatist extremism, but alleges that Namor is responsible for a bunch of nasty things in post-rebellion Txotai, including the deprivation of certain rights from certain Otekians and doing things to destroy their culture. The letter urged President-General Fu to revisit the government's policy towards Otekian people (if there even is any) and concluded with signatures from a hundred or so Geadish individuals - some of them were religious clerics, others were ethnic Luziycans living in Geadland, while others are just people we never heard of."

This is ridiculous. They seem to doubt that the claims of the Otekians, the people who have already and will sign it are true, and they claim that there is no policy against Otekians: just because there is no formal policy doesn't mean that de-facto, Otekians would be treated equally. I have a feeling that it isn't all paradise that the Liberator is portraying it as. Moving on.

"It shouldn't be a big deal," they state, "considering there were many attempts by separatists and pro-separatists to write petitions and letters aimed at pressuring the government to stop doing something it never was. We at The Liberator initially declined to comment on this because we understand how babyish this is (some things are just not worth publicizing, as every journalist knows). For God's sake: seriously? They deny the fact that demographic manipulation is going on in Oteki? Yeah, and Arnborg is the least racist state in all of Esquarium: oh wait. They are not. And demographic manipulation (which is when a bunch of well-educated people flee a conqueror, so the conquerors decide to encourage their own people to move to the homes and take the jobs they left behind, and ultimately make the conquered people a minority) is in fact, happening in Oteki. I know Simon Bloom can explain this better than I, but it certainly is happening.

The Liberator continues, "Not to mention Radio Free Qianrong (RFQ)'s recent attempt at mocking Namorese media's practice of putting quotation marks around certain words to express illegitimacy, which is merely an act of nagging Namo and, indirectly, someone in Namor to respond to this supposed public phenomenon that's gained steam over the past few hours. We realized that if PTH doesn't comment on this issue (and they certainly have the ethics not to because of, again, how immature this issue has become), someone from this country has to. And it's going to be us."
Okay, what does this have to do with the Letter of Millions? Is it something unrelated so to deliberately discredit Qianrongese people? Also, they claim that it is a "supposed public phenomenon" and that it is immature: I know for a fact that it is real, because I know Otekians outside of Oteki, who had fled from their homeland. I know it because across the West, people have been adding their signatures to the Letter.

They then show their take on the letter: "Basically, we think this letter is yet another publicity campaign, a smear offensive carried out by nosey-parker social (in)justice warriors who on the surface may seem they want to bring about change, but in reality they just want attention and tears running down the cheeks of deluded people."

Nosey-parker social injustice warriors? A smear offensive? Are you sure that they do not want to, I don't know, face the truth that is in Oteki? Then they show a picture showing where Radio Free Qianrong forgets to place the "Namorese government" in quotes, and tries to use it to discredit them. I think that it is a possible typo: I know from time to time when I read this very newspaper, I've seen typos, some more horrific than others.

"This paper can point out several flaws in the letter itself," the reporters of falsehood declare, "[t]he letter says that 'it is not democratic if a nation is forced to endure a domestic government that its citizens do not want to have in the long run.' This is by no means a false statement, but one flaw we just can't not point out is that there's no evidence (besides testimonies from exiles in their eighties or over) that ethnic Otekians - let alone any other ethnic minority group - don't like the administration of the Txotai Autonomous Republic. In the NMR 2355 Txotai referendum which paved the way for Txotai to become an autonomous republic, 82.3% of Otekians who took part voted 'yes' in favor of Txotai becoming the autonomous republic it is today. And overall, 67.4% of referendum voters voted in favor of an autonomous republic. The referendum was commended by many governments (including Geadland where this letter originated from), and naturally the separatists weren't happy because they benefit from the image of an undemocratic Namorese administration."

It may be fair, and they may have given autonomy, but a third did not vote in favor of becoming an autonomous republic. I highly suspect many of them were Namorese, and I feel the referenda in Pavonistade and the Ocelot Isles will be the same: rigged at worse, and biased at best.

But of course, the Lieberator reporters are at it: "The letter said 'many Otekian people consider themselves to be a nation with a separate identity to the Namorese nation.' That's not untrue - many Otekians living outside of Namor consider themselves to be this hypothetical 'Otekian nation,' and that's nearly 3-4 million people. It's not true, and at most this is just an one-sided allegation one should study carefully before reaching a conclusion."
Oh for goodness sake. That is ridiculous. Many does not mean all or most, it means at least a plurality, and I am quite certain that this is an attempt to discredit all Otekians. I know Inledans who consider themselves an Inledan nation, Lombardians who do the same, despite them being in Luziyca. But implying that all people identify as Namorese, whether Kannei or not within Namor is false: it is one-sided as well. They are quite hypocritical there.

"The letter went on and said 'We further criticise government policies in Namor that have worked to undermine the national identity of the Otekian people...No democracy should exert this type of compulsion on any citizens.' It basically criticized the influx of non-Otekians into the Txotai region, which did happen," the Lieberator stated. "Except this happened in the rest of northern Namor, too," it continues. "As part of Gelai Antelope's 'Northern Development' plan, the government encouraged people down south to move north and do business there. No government ever overuses its own resources to accomplish something which could've been done with a few resources."

So this is a side effect of the plan? Possibly. However, maybe they decided to encourage people to move to Thalassa and Arra so to distract the rest of the world from the influx of Otekians, so they can be targetted. And while I'm glad the Liberator did admit that non-Otekians moved to Oteki, it seems that this strategy played a role in demographic manipulation.

"It's implied in the letter that such a movement of people from one place to another is unwarranted and illegal," that paper said, "But considering how most countries (except for some obvious ones) recognize Txotai as Namorese territory, people are allowed to move from one place to another. It's not like the government suddenly encouraged people to pack their bags, leave Namor and settle in...Chorea? Well, that's how the letter's portraying the situation as - a country sending its own people to move and dominate another country. Absurdity at its finest."

The thing is, Oteki was a sovereign state in the 20th century, from 1901 to 1950, and from 1966 to 1970. Prior to 1720, it was part of the Duchy of York, which is Luziycan: the people have their own unique culture like Katranjians, they have their own cuisine and identity, and during their independence, they had a strong nation-state which was prosperous until the Great Depression hit: had it remained sovereign, Oteki may have recovered and today be a thriving nation. It may have been a product of war, but Luziyca was a product of war: a war of unification in the 1860s. Does that mean we have no right to sovereignty?

"'We call for the government to listen to the genuine grievances of the Otekian people and to implement policies that better respect their human rights,'" the Lieberator reports. "Good news for the letter - Otekians make up around 70% of legislatures in prefectures of Txotai that are dominated by ethnic Otekians. It's one of these damned if you do, damned if you don't situations that one has to cope with from time to time."

Propaganda portraying that life for Otekians in Namor is like paradise. Their medical costs are covered by the government, they can vote, run for office, yadda yadda yadda, but if I worked at say, a job where I get luxurious benefits like healthcare insurance that pays for everything, full meals every day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), but only earn a penny per hour and get treated as a slave, am I really treated nicely? Not at all.

"And did the letter say 'human rights?' Funny how they say that considering all Namorese citizens are entitled to all basic human rights written on the book; in fact, more rights than some of the countries whose people signed the letter," they report. "Another note - it wasn't Namor that burned people at the stake as a form of capital punishment. Oh wait, that's not a human rights violation as it seems...."
Implying that all people who criticize the human rights violations in Oteki want people to be burnt at the stake. To quote the "Letter of Millions," "We condemn any group that condones, assists or carries out atrocities to this end." This includes burning people at the stake that was done both in Luziyca and Oteki in the past, but no longer is done now. The Liberator is really hellbent on discrediting the complaints of many people.

Now, we need to see what the Lieberators want to do with this letter. Do they want it to be spread and inform the President-Gener... not at all.

"Trash it, throw it away, light it up with a match...there's a billion things we can do about this 'Letter of Millions,'" that paper remarks. "But in some superhero comics, the protagonist cannot kill the antagonist because if he does, the antagonist wins because his point is proven. This is the situation we're having right now and here - if we discard the letter or ignore it, the separatists win because they're going to go all around and call us out for being 'afraid' of facing them head-on."

Well, if that's the way you roll, don't be surprised when all of a sudden, people demanding devomax manage to protest and demand maximum autonomy from Namor.

They continue: "But our point brought up in the very beginning of this editorial remains - why should we give this letter so much publicity? It's yet another publicity stunt that PTH rightfully didn't bring up in its headlines news because of its absurd motives. We're giving the separatists attention by giving attention to this letter, and if we give attention to this letter others will give attention to this letter, and the infection continues. And not before long, an issue that shouldn't really be so important is being regurgitated in a debate contest comprised of preschoolers."

Seriously? You don't consider human rights important? Do you consider an issue that has been smoldering for decades with the occasional flare-up unimportant? I feel that if even if it bites you in the arse, you will ensure that you recover Oteki, like how you want to take Nantai, against the wishes of the people here in my region. And for Nushen's sake, if your preschoolers debate politics, I feel you may be brainwashing them.

It gets closer to the end: "The letter appears to be popular - but it's far from it. Most of the signatories are from the very few countries that still have relations with the so-called government-in-exile and have piss-poor relations with our country. In essence, it's a campaign belonging to a campaign that is led by our ideological enemies. We wouldn't be surprised if everyone in Luziyca (500 million people) and Qianrong (65 million people) signed this letter - it'll still be a 'letter of millions' on the surface."

Except, remember, this letter has originated in Geadland. It's about as far as you can get from an ideological enemy but also not a full ally either. This is really unsustainable, and to claim that everyone who signs it is against Namor itself is like saying that everyone who hates Luziyca hates freedom: it is foolish to insist on that.

"President-General Fu most likely threw the letter into the trash can, if he even saw the letter. Well, we did, and here's what we have to say - Keep Calm and Carry On."

And that will be what we shall do: we will keep calm and carry on with our campaign, so even if it never reaches Fu Wen's desk, it will be enough to force Namo to at the very least think about what they are doing.

To quote the Lieberator for one last time: "Thus ends this editorial."

Defense Minister Tatarintsev resigns, General Chief of Staff Andrei Yalkev appointed Acting Defense Minister

Recent reports say Tatarintsev had "severe disagreements"

February 5, 2015
Plavagrad, Sakatia - - President Salkov announced that Defense Minister Oleg Tatarintsev had resigned due to health issues, with the Ministry of Defense adding that "the state of his poor physical and mental health in recent weeks had affected his ability to perform his duties as Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Sakatia". Tatarintsev has had no major health issues in the past, however the MOD added that he had "issues with his liver" which "inhibited his efforts to perform his duties".

However it was found out that Tatarintsev had been conducting "unsanctioned side business". Major media networks were sent a anonymous email containing a video of Tatarintsev in bed with several women in a Plavagrad hotel. The video was sent a hour after the announcement of his resignation. The Ministry of Defense denies it leaked the video, however they did say "a video of that nature is circulating". When asked if there will be a investigation, the spokesman laughed off the question.

General of the Army Andrei Yalkev was appointed Minister of Defense on a acting basis, however it is widely speculated that he will be appointed as the new Minister of Defense, thanks to his close relationship with President Vladimir Salkov. Yalkev was a officer in the North Sakatian People's Liberation Army from 1982 to 1995 and in the Sakatian National Army from 1995 to present. Yalkev has attended the Plavagrad Federal Military Academy, the Gorezna Military College and the Tulsk State Academy of the Armed Forces. Yalkev was promoted to Deputy Defense MInister in 2013, following a 4 year tenure as Commander of the Sakatian Armed Forces in Simna.

Anna Sørensen is Prime Minister, Van Boelle is out of a job.

ImageSørensen giving her first parliamentary address as PM.

Boswald - Anna Sørensen, the Leader of the Christian Democratic Alliance, is now Prime Minister of Greonterp.

Lily Van Boelle, who was PM for four years, resigned two weeks ago, and announced that Anna Sørensen, the Deputy CDA leader, would take over the role of Prime Minister.

Anna Sørensen is the first of many things. She is the first lesbian Prime Minister, the youngest Prime Minister, and the first Prime Minister not born in Greonterp. It also seems that she may be one of the few Prime Ministers who is beginning their term with a high level of popularity.

Though she comes from the same political party as Lily Van Boelle, she has garnered a 59% approval rating for her outspokenness, liberalism, and appeal to Labour Party and Liberal Forum voters. Sørensen gave her first parliamentary address today, which outlined her vision for Greonterp and Esquarium.

"The main goal of my premiership will be unity. Not just unity in Greonterp, but in Esquarium. Esquarium has been increasingly polarized along the lines of ideological and cultural differences," said PM Anna Sørensen. "Through diplomacy and optimism, we can, and should change this. And, I see this same polarization in Greonterp. When half of Leeuwarden doesn't consider themselves Greonlian, and when the Greonterp National Union wins 7% of the vote, we know we need to restore unity."

In her address, she also outlined her immediate plans for domestic policy. A radical reformist program that sounded like classical liberalism was outlined. She stressed the need for further tax cuts, more labour market flexibility, "right to work laws", and the legalization of hard drugs. Some have said that Sørensen sounds "more economically liberal than Amber De Coos." Sørensen, however, has promised that she's a market liberal reformist. Whatever the case, The Boswald Times wishes her the best of luck.

ANTI-NEVANMAA PROTESTS IN DA HEGNER
Wide range of mainly left-wing groups protest Geadland’s controversial alliance

6 February 2015 Last updated 15:08 Geadish Standard Time
A crowd of 50,000 demonstrators marched down Den Linden Traie to protest against Geadland’s alliance with Nevanmaa. It was the largest demonstration in Geadland since the November 2013 anti-austerity protests.

The march had originally been organised by the WETO Instead, a group which aims to get Geadland to withdraw from NOSDO and join WETO instead. However, it quickly attracted participation from a variety of groups, many being left-wing. Not all the demonstrators shared WETO Instead’s goal; some instead supported neutrality, while others called for a ‘NOSDO without Nevanmaa’. Many held placards calling for a referendum on Geadland’s membership in the controversial alliance.

The groups participating included the Green Party, the Campaign for Neutrality, United Against Racism, the Black Nevan Exiles Association, the Red Party and Republic for Geadland. Most of the groups present were left-wing, but many were non-political; some right-wing groups like Conservatives for Neutrality and the Solned Group were also present.

WETO Instead decided to organise the protest two weeks ago when Sosjaltidens [a left-wing tabloid] leaked the news that the Cabinet was considering extending the NOSDO Referendum Act. As part of a deal for getting Geadland’s NOSDO membership ratified in 2000, Manfred Hägen agreed to pass that required a referendum on NOSDO membership to be held no later than the end of 2010 unless 2/3 of both chambers of Parliament voted against it. However, in 2010, the deadline was extended to 2015.

Sosjaltidens reported that the government were planning to extend it to 2017 so that it could be held alongside the next general election. Nordland said that the option was “discussed” but that the Cabinet had not agreed to it and that “we haven’t taken a position whether we should have a referendum on NOSDO membership and we are still reviewing our options”. In December, Nordland argued that Nevanmaa should be expelled from NOSDO, and was joined by the Britannoan Prime Minister, Marcus Browning. However, heads of government in Vjaarland and Vyvland argued against expelling Nevanmaa, effectively blocking it.

Polls show that the alliance with Nevanmaa is now deeply unpopular in Geadland, with 60% opposed and 32% supportive. But conversely, by a 44%-30% margin, public opinion wants Geadland to remain in NOSDO (although this is the lowest recorded level of support for NOSDO since 2001). Likewise, over 80% supported Geadland’s alliance with the other NOSDO nations, including Vyvland and Britanno.

In response to the protests, Nordland said “We recognise that many Geads have legitimate concerns about the direction our foreign and security policy has been headed in during the last 10 years. I promise to listen to the complaints that some of my opponents have made. But we have to consider the practical situation too.”

New Dawn - The new political party founded in Dhomland

Image
Photo from New Dawn Constituent Assembly

Yesterday in Ustron, the largest city in Dhomland was held founding assembly of a new political party - New Dawn. The party will focus on the fighting establishment, for more democracy, freedom of the Internet and against for less influence of banks and large corporations. The party leader is not elected, but the party will lead all of its members.
"Dhomland is ruled by evil bankers and major political parties are only servants of bank lobbies. We must change it!! We are not interested in upcoming referendum on gay marriage ban. It's just an ideological question imposed on us in order citizens not to think about really important issues. While we are thinking about gays, hundreds of eviction was carried out and hundreds of families were evicted into the street."

Political analyst Karlo Ivas said that previous government led by liberal DDA dragged us into a deep crisis in 2010 while the current conservative government led by DNS only partially managed to get out of the crisis. Therefore, a party like New Dawn has great potential to grow. Also, there are two more years until next general election, so New Dawn certainly have time to strengthen. But local elections will be held very soon this year so it will be a test for the new party.

Members of the New Dawn announced cooperation with other anti-establishment parties, not depending on whether they are the left or right. Our most natural partners would be left wing United Democratic Left, centrist Dhomish Pirate Party and right wing Dhomish Resistance Movement, said Teo Kovac, one of the members of the Party and added: "Along with them, we will break the political elites".

Political analyst Karlo Ivas said that it would be very difficult to form a government with both far-right xenophobic Dhomish Resistance Movement and far-left United Democratic Left due to the rivalry between the two parties. But, nothing is impossible.

New dawn is also looking for partners outside Dhomland, in other Esquarian countries.

Former President Leibowitz Dead at 81

Led Nation in the 1990s, Last Liberal to Serve in Kramden House
Image
Former President Nelson Leibowitz passed away early this morning at the Brickner Clinic in Charleroi, where he was being treated for a respiratory infection since last Wednesday. He had been suffering from the infection throughout the summer, and was admitted to the hospital as the infection took a turn for the worse. Leibowitz was an architect of the Liberal-Libertarian merger in 2001, and until four years ago was active as a legal adviser to several companies, including Abitra Electronics and NegBarla Grain and Produce. One of his grandchildren, Ed Dumarier, was called to the hospital at 2:31 AM, and he was pronounced dead at 5:16 AM. His daughter, Marie Dumarier, is reported en route from her family's home in rural Poznan Township, near Edwardsville, North Central State. His wife Denise preceded him in death in 2007.

Vice President Davidoff, speaking for President Feld, who is attending the Esquarian Summit issued this statement from Kramden House
I speak for the President, the Cabinet, and all the nation in mourning the loss of Nelson Leibowitz. Throughout his long career in public service, Nelson Leibowitz was known as a man of forthrightness and integrity. He served with distinction in the Senate. His presidency was marked with courage and vision. His farsighted leadership in the 1990s era has helped ever since to preserve peace and freedom.. Confronted during his Presidency with a momentous series of challenges, his strength and spirit never wavered, and his faith in West Cedarbrook never flagged.

President Leibowitz had a deep respect for the office he held and for the people he served. He gave himself unstintingly to the duties of the Presidency while he held it, and in the years afterwards he honorably supported and wisely counseled the nation.

The nation to which he gave so much will honor his memory in admiration and respect, and will remember his name with gratitude.

Acting in my capacity during Presient Feld's absence, in tribute to the memory of President Leibowitz, and as an expression of public sorrow, do hereby direct that the flag of the Kramedn of West Cedarbrook be displayed at half-staff at Kramden House and on all buildings, grounds, and naval vessels of the West Cedarbrook for a period of 30 days from the day of his death. I also direct that for the same length of time the Representatives of the Kramden in foreign countries shall make similar arrangements for the display of the flag at half-staff over their embassies, legations, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and stations. I hereby order that suitable honors be rendered by units of the armed forces under orders of the Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff on the day of the funeral.

I do further appoint Sunday, February 8, 2015, to be a national day of mourning throughout the Kramden of West Cedarbrook. I recommend that the people assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President Leibowitz and to seek God's continued blessing on our land. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance.

After leaving the Presidency following the 1997 election, Leibowitz devoted much of his time to teaching and travel. During the first two years of his successor, Conservative Gerald Markowitz, Leibowitz held back criticism of the President. But in 1999, concerned about the dwindling Liberal fortunes, Leibowitz actively sought the Liberal nomination for 2002. As he travelled the nation, however, Leibowitz became convinced with the futility of reviving the Liberals, and initiated a series of negotiations with the rising Libertarian Party, eventually successfully bringing about a merger in 2001. Former President Louis B. Steinberg, and other Libertarian senators at the time credited the merger with Steinberg's success in turning out Markowitz in the 2002 election. Later that year, Steinberg appointed him to the Solicitor General's Board of Review for Corporate Governance. Bitterness lingered between Leibowitz and Markowitz throughout the early 2000's, with each refusing to appear together at functions, even charitable ones. Although the two have met three times since 2006, sniping continued between the two. In an interview with Fox News Eretz in July 2007, Markowitz contended that "Leibowitz proved the through softness of the Liberals in recognizing the Communist threat. His diplomatic opening with West Cortoguay brought doubt on Cedarbrookese trustworthiness, and provoked a Conservative backlash. After the '96 Senate elections, he couldn't do a thing, here or abroad". Leibowitz commented acidly the next year, in his memoir "Challenge and Change", "Markowitz brought back the discredited Bernstein financial policy, serving the biggest commercial banks at the expense of small business, farmers, and the savings banks. His flabby review of mergers, if they can be called review at all, caused hundreds of thousands of lost jobs, and untold misery for average Cedarbrookese. I was, frankly, disgusted by many of these".

Former President Markowitz, on vacation at his summer home, said "The passing of President Leibowitz is a great loss to the Kramden. We disagreed greatly on most points, but never did I or anyone in my administration doubt this patriotism and kindness. The Kramden mourns his passing, and me and my family extend our deepest condolences to the Leibowitz family."

A Legal Life, Guided Merger with Libertarians
Nelson grew up in Amiens. He was considered bright, and likely to have a good future. In High School he was captain of the debate team, leading it to a statewide championship, and to second in the national finals in 1948. Following High School graduation he attended Salk University, where he met his wife. At Salk he worked part-time driving trucks for a local grocery, participated in student government as a Student Senator, and volunteered as a senior guidance counselor. Graduating in 1955 with a degree in Business, he continued studies in Civil Law at J. Robert Oppenheimer University, obtaining his degree and passing the bar in 1957. The firm of White, Rogers, Symansky and Ben-Ezekiel offered a staff position, and he accepted the offer and moved to Wrycova. He worked on staff from 1957 to 1976, also serving in the local Militia from 1959 to 1964. He made partner in 1968. In 1976 he was promoted to the head of the Mergers and Acquisitions department at the firm.

Business contacts brought him to the attention of Charleroi mayor Andrew Tromowitz in the 70's. When Tromowitz was looking for a replacement for Economic Development Director, he turned to Leibowitz in 1978. Leibowitz held that position until running for the senate at the urging of the Charleroi Liberal Party, winning easily in a safe district in 1988.

Leibowitz was sharply critical of President Bryan Bernstein from the start of his career in the Senate. He had frequent sharp arguments with Conservative Senators, and was viewed as the hatchet man for the Liberal Party. Easily winning re-election in 1990, his criticism of the Bernstein Administration caught traction in the early 90's during a period of flat growth and rising unemployment. During his senate tenure he served on the municipal affairs, education, and budget committees.

As the 1992 Liberal primaries approached, Leibowitz was the only candidate running. Liberals sensed Conservative vulnerability on employment and growth. Leibowitz campaigned hard, claiming that Bernstein and Conservative contributors had depleted the unemployment fund, and held back funding for roads, schools and hospitals. He claimed that Bernstein's tax changes in 1987 were a "rich man's plunder of the working people". Leibowitz's hard hitting tactics resonated in urban areas and towns, and blunted efforts of Socialist Senate candidates. He was elected that year by a margin of 61% to 29%, with 10% going to Socialist Wanda Bezalel.

Leibowitz immediately increased spending on social issues, upping the primary educational budget 14%, and hospital subsidies 9%. In foreign affairs he initiated closer relations with nearby liberal democracies, including Michillies and Masseau. However reaction to some liberal social policies, and to higher income tax rates caused Liberal losses in the 1994 Senate elections, causing a Conservative majority, and in the 1996 Senate elections. Also in the 1996 elections, the Socialist Party lost all it's Senate seats. The administration's attempt to open closer relations with Communist West Cortoguay was a constant source of disagreement with the Conservatives, and hamstrung all efforts at bipartisansip after the 1996 elections.

As Leibowitz installed massive social engineering programs, Conservative Senator Gerald Markowitz led strong opposition in the Senate. In 1994 he was elected Conservative Senate Leader, following the Conservative victory in the Senate elections that year. He was credited with a repeat of that victory in the 1996 elections, which saw the Socialists swept out of the Sentate

The 1997 Presidential election hinged on the stalemated domestic programs of Leibowitz. Despite the demise of the Socialists, Markowitz defeated Leibowitz 58% to 42%. Liberal support flagged in the cities, and was nearly non-existent in rural areas.

Scotian Government Signs "Letter of Millions"

Image
The Geadish embassy in Aberlefen Cty., where the signing took place

ABERLEFEN, SCOTIA - The entire Scotian Government has just announced it has signed the Letter of Millions, calling on the Namorese government to ensure better treatment of the ethnic Otekian population in Txotai, coming after numerous Qianrongese and Luziycan notables have signed the open letter from Geadland.

After signing their names to the letter in the Geadish Embassy in Aberlefen Cty. today, Tòiseach David MacLeod (together with the Cabinet) stated that "fifty years have passed since the reincorporation of Txotai-Oteki into the Peoples' Republic, and we've seen time and time again, the native Otekian popualtion has been constantly denied their rights to live out their lives as they choose to, especially in both the imposition of the draconian Anti-Secession Law, which by far led to many leaving their homes in search of a better life, and the experiment on 'demographic manipulation' in order to make them a minority in their own land. Much as we continue to criticize the Nevan government over its treatment of its Black Nevan and Outer Nevan population, we now call on the President-General to let them excercise their rights as granted under their Constitution."

The Letter of Millions has been signed by over 100 Geadish notables, as well as over 1,000 Qianrongese notables. The full letter (which was openly released in Geadland's Nazjonal Dagposten)reads . . .

So far, the Namorese government has not responded to the letter, but the Scotian Government has criticized the Liberator's "dismissive attitudes towards such an important issue."

"People in Txotai have rights too," PM Magarit Ogynan and King Apostol XV say

Image
Apostol XV at a press conference, 2004

KRASIMIR, DUCHY OF KRASIMIR - As notable people all across Esquarium have signed what Luziycan media calls the "Letter of Millions," which originated within Geadland and spread to Qianrong, Luziyca, Scotia, and potentially other countries; today, most of the National Assembly signed the "Letter of Millions," as well as all of the cabinet, the Royal Family, all the Dukes of the Duchies still in existence and countless Katranjian celebrities and other notables, including former PMs Viktor Kahut and Paul Grigoriev.

King Apostol XV said that "People within Txotai have rights. While we condemn the atrocities committed to achieve such ends, we need to realize that this is a deep problem. This letter is a start, to help give Namo a nudge and make them pay attention to what the Otekians have endured." When asked about the Liberator article, he stated that "it just increases tensions with this bald-faced denial. I think that Nicholas Sun from Nantai had a good idea to rebut what they say, but I am certain the truth is in the middle somewhere."

PM Magarit Ogynan said that "this attempt to hide the problem in Txotai cannot work in the long run: ultimately, it will come into the light, and by then, it'd be impossible to solve the issue within Txotai. It is better to solve it now than to ignore it and keep kicking the can down the road."

The only MPs to have refused to sign the letter were the Liberationist MPs, two from ridings in Talnakh and ten from Trifonov, which issued a press release stating that "this so-called 'campaign' is doomed to fail. Like it or not, Otekians have lived better lives in Txotai since Namor retook Txotai in 1970, and Namorese rule is completely good for Txotai, save for a few terrorists," and went on to call the "Letter of Millions" an "effort to ensure that genocide against the Namorese and Geads can occur in Txotai under the auspices of the Slavs who historically exploited Txotai."

State of the Nation 2015: Salkov promises "urgent reform"; vows to end war in Simna

President Salkov outlined his domestic and foreign policy for 2015

President Salkov addressing the Predstavnik on Thursday, February 5th

February 5, 2015
Plavagrad, Sakatia - - President Vladimir Salkov delivered his State of the Nation address on Thursday, outlining his goals for 2015. This year will be important as the Predstavnik will be holding elections in April, which will be crucial for the President to secure a victory for his United Sakatia political party.

One of Salkov's major points was his sincere regret of the events in November last year. Several protesters were shot dead by police, following weeks of street protests. President Salkov said he will repeal the "Stability Act", which removed term limits for the President. Salkov said the law was flawed and could not be implemented "in any way, shape, or form". Salkov also promised to reform the entirety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including the Sakatian Federal Police, who were responsible for the Plavagrad shootings.

Today, Salkov repealed the 2012 Anti-Terrorism act which banned groups of over 5 people and prohibited appeals in cases found to "violate the unity of the state". He said the law was "un-democratic in every way" and added he will push for more "effective" counter terrorism legislation. Salkov said the signing of the legislation at the time seemed necessary to prevent the collapse of the ceasefire in Simna, however he admitted that it collapsed in late 2013 anyway, despite the legislation.

The President also announced the creation of a anti-corruption council, to counter corruption that is slowly creeping its way through the government. Salkov said that if corruption isn't seriously fought now, it will forever destroy Sakatia.

Salkov also praised the Sakatian Armed Forces deployed in Simna, who are currently fighting the Simna Liberation Front in the countryside of the island. The President said that he hopes the operation will be finished as soon as possible and that the SLF are "wiped off the face of the earth". He promised the Simnanese people that if they resist against the SLF, Simna one day will be prosperous and safe.

Carolina signs the "Letter of Millions"
Image
Austin, Carolina. Today, in the capitol rotunda, General David Alanson, leader of the Federal Republic of Carolina, has agreed to sign the "Letter of Millions". After signing it, he remarked "Let it be known, that Carolina stands with the people of Oteki and support their right to self-determination and independence, if they so choose to become an independent and free nation." General Alanson was then asked by a reporter his opinion on violent extremism by the Otekian nationalists. General Alanson then answered "That violent action is wrong, and is intolerable and is something I strongly condemn. However, the rights of the Otekian people should not be ignored. Carolina along with others in the international community, have decided to take peaceful action on this issue. Other questions were about issues that were closer to home, such as the legalization of same-sex marriage, the transition to democracy, and the rebuilding efforts in Southern Carolina from the war back in 2004, that finally reunified Carolina. General Alanson has said he is opposed to gay marriage and won't legalize it. He also said that their will be elections for the recreation of Parliament. General Alanson also claimed that he will continue to support the rebuilding movement in Southern Carolina. So far however, the hottest topic is the "Letter of Millions". The Atlantican Daily

Minimum wage passes decisively in referendum

The results of the referendum on the establishment of a nationwide minimum wage at ∑5 Krona an hour and an increase of the nonunion minimum wage to ∑6 Krona an hour were announced today, with 57% of voters voting Yes, and 43% voting No. This is generally seen as a victory for PM Matteus Gunnlaugsson's agenda, as the establishment of a nationwide minimum wage is one of the core components of his Three-Point Program widely seen as giving him the office of PM in 2013.

Support for the referendum was relatively even throughout the country, though support was higher in cites and lower in rural areas, likely due to the left-leaning nature of Atlantican cities, and the right-leaning nature of Atlantican rural areas.

The Government announced that the minimum wage would be gradually implemented during a three-month period. This is faster than the use of a six-month implementation of laws as is traditional. Although nontraditional, this was expected as a three-month period was also used for the 30-hour workweek implemented in 2013.

The Socialists, Greens, and Communists all supported the "Yes" camp, while the Liberals, Democrats, and Blues all supported the "No" camp. Opposition Leader and Liberal Party Leader Geir Gunnarsson (and informal leader of the "No" camp) congratulated the PM following the announcement of the results.

The PM publicly stated that he: "Thanked the Atlantican people for voting to institute a nationwide living wage for all Atlanticans", in a closing statement. Geir Gunnarsson stated that he: "Respected the decision that the Atlantican People have chosen to make", also in a closing statement.

Terrible decision. We should've voted no. But as Geir said, I accept democracy, unlike the Luziycans.

Free Kraqi Media International

Free Kraqi Army fighters reach Ragobad city limits
Image
Free Kraqi Army fighters outside Ragobad

7th February, 2015
For almost four long and bloody years, we at Free Kraqi Media International have eagerly awaited the collapse of the ruthless and brutal dictator of the Kraqi people, President Hussein. Since the first protests erupted on 12 August 2011, we have brought the world free and unbias up to date news on the conflict. And finally the end of President Hussein's iron grip over Kraq is almost here. At approximately 02:00 local time, fighters belonging to the FKA (Free Kraqi Army), successfully smashed through government positions being held by the 1st Infantry Regiment, killing dozens of Pro-Hussein solders in the process, whom were tasked with protecting the main road leading south into Ragobad and advanced into Ragobad's northern suburbs. Upon entering the city's suburbs, rebel fighters have reportedly been greeted by cheering crowds waving the rebel flag.

Since seizing parts of Ragobad, over the past 15 hours, rebel held areas have been pounded by government airstrikes, resulting in the deaths of 20 civilians. President Hussein is reportedly meeting with the Central Military Commission while Commander of the Republican Guard Fouad Kader has mobilised two divisions to repulse further attacks.

In the Sunni dominated western Fashloom and al-Dahmani districts, thousands of residents have taken up arms against the totalitarian Hussein government. Already Anti-government rebels, whom have declared themselves to the Ragobad Brigade, have captured Ben Nabi Mosque and the People's Ministry of Truth HQ's in western Ragobad. Heavy clashes have continued deep into the late afternoon as elements of the Republican Guard, backed up Pro-government Militia, have launched repeated assaults against rebel positions in western and northern Ragobad. Leaving addition 56 people dead.

This sudden change of fortunes for the National Kraqi Opposition Coalition can be traced back to the FKA leadership taking advantage of the 4th Army's lack of reserves and reinforcements due to the Hussein regime diverting vast amounts of men and equipment away from 4th Army, in favour of 1st Army. Leaving 4th Army dangerously overstretched. On 10 January the FKA and the Kraqi National Movement launched an offensive against government strongholds in Jirud Fleita Governorate, north of Ragobad. Media sources affiliated with the Kraqi opposition reported that government forces in the region suffered heavy losses. Over the next week FKA fighters continued to advance south towards Ragobad. On 23 January, Free Kraqi Army captured Hussein City and subsequently linked up with fighters belonging to the Kraqi Revolutionary People's Army and Liberationist Kraqi Worker's Front. Hussein City which lies 17 Kilometers to the east of Ragobad, put the rebels within artillery range of Ragobad. The following day rebels in the Jirud Fleita and Ragobad Governorates merged and renamed themselves the Ragobad Front. Over the next few days, the Ragobad Front continued to make gains and on February 2nd, were just 2 Kilometers away from Ragobad. Breaking through into Ragobad several days later.

Abu Abdullah Alloush, a senior commander of the Ragobad Front, vowed to capture Ragobad or die trying, later saying that the Pro-regime support shall taste of what the regime had visited on the rest of the country. While the National Kraqi Opposition Coalition is believed to be formulating a de-facto government in exile preparation for the capture of Ragobad.

Anti-establishment and radical parties more and more popular

Opinion poll results

Gallup conducted a poll about popularity of political parties in Dhomland. The results are very frightening. Although the centre-right Dhomish People's Party and centre-left Dhomish Democratic Action are still the strongest, anti-establishment and radical parties are unstoppably growing. According to the last poll, third largest party is the far-right Dhomish Resistance Movement who stands for the ban on mixed marriages and "ethnically clean" Dhomland. The fourth largest party is newly founded anti-establishment movement New Dawn which stands for fighting corporations and bankers, devaluation of currency and the abolition of copyright laws. The radical left-wing United Democratic Left also increased its popularity.
