EU to suspend membership of the Ocelot Isles

Image
Headquarters of the Esquarian Union

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Today, the Esquarian Commission, comprised of the top bureaucrats of the Esquarian Union have decided that "due to the coup d'etat that occurred within the Ocelot Isles, it is in the interests of the union to suspend the membership of the Ocelotian Isles until such time as a democratic government with the associated institutions is restored."

The Pavon news agency reported that "Generalissimo," Alexei Spalin said "It was I, along with the many people who helped made this possible, that orchestrated a new revolution in the country's history." He only permitted PAI and news sources like The Constitution to report on this coup, while domestic news sources and those opposed to him were shot.

Already, it is generating shockwaves, with President Mattheu Azurite of Pavonistade had condemned the coup, stating that "the Ocelotian people had neither consented to a coup nor to a military junta."
Secretary Alfhild Amandus of the Department of Foreign Affairs said that "this coup is unacceptable and is counter to the values of freedom and democracy."

The Luziycan delegate to the Esquarian Commission, Jennifer Molander said that "we are quite concerned with this coup d'etat, and the efforts of this 'generalissimo' to execute members of the foreign government. It is unacceptable for a nation, especially a fellow member that left one of the most trusted members to suppress democracy in such a brutal and totalitarian fashion."

In essence, the Ocelot Isles will be unable to vote in Congress (though a non-voting delegate, like an observer is permitted), nor take part in Esquarian Commission meetings. They may appeal to the Supreme Court regarding this decision, and they can still participate in the Greenwich Area, although nations in the EU can treat suspended members as other foreign nationals. In addition, they will not be permitted to participate in the free trade area.

More as the story develops.

Traitorous Dissidents Executed by Firing Squad; Ocelot Isles Leaves EU, Warns Opponents to "Be Aware"
Image
"Governor-President" Von Osestadtie is among the dogs shot

As the sun set and the sky was dyed black, the former members of the now-defunct Ocelotian Administration are rounded up and shot by a firing squad.

Executions tend to be scheduled days after someone is convicted of a serious crime. This case is justly special as not only did the officials have a trial, their execution was accomplished much earlier---after they were held hostage since early morning. Under orders of the Generalissimo Alexei Spalin, the members were rounded up and held inside what was originally known as the Ocelotian Legislative Council. The execution did not occur immediately because of Pavonistadian criticism and the more-recent (yet less damaging) expulsion from the sovereignty-violating Esquarian Union.

The Generalissimo gave approval for the firing squad, assembled from Ocelotian Armed Police Force personnel and from the glorious demonstrators, to open fire upon the hoarded dogs held in the Ocelotian Legislative Council. As they were brought out from their places, another division of the OAPF triggered a pre-planted bomb inside the council, causing a massive fireball that tore apart the terrorist stronghold and lit its remains on fire.

The firing squad led the members on a long march out of Kongeuvia and next to a long wall left over from the First Ocelotian-Pavonistadian War. Those that tumbled over too many times or were exhausted were executed on the spot. When they reached the wall, the sky was pitch black and the firing squad organized the hellhounds on the wall, ordered by how traitorous they are from left to right. The leftmost creature would be the Governor-President and the rightmost creature would not be so traitorous, but still worthy of being executed. The Generalissimo had arrived just before the execution occurred, and with his verbal order, the Governor-President was shot first before all of the rounded pigs were killed at last.

It is surely painful to the family of the killed, who are also being rounded up and executed for their allegiance to traitors, but it is something that is not unexpected. At the same time, it is amazing how a coup early today have quickly transformed the Ocelot Isles and began a journey to a renewed nation with more freedom and less corruption.

The executed dissidents include: Governor-President Julien von Osestadtie; Vice Governor-President Emna Arjenta; Supreme Judge (Chief Justice) Mack Parlinston; Side Judges (Associate Justices) Olivine Smith, Sacherie Chovuine, and Lauren Roveur; and heads of all governmental departments. The execution of all Ocelotian Legislative Assembly members were taken care of by a larger firing squad.

Meanwhile, on the international stage, there has been criticism from both Pavonistade and the Esquarian Union. The Generalissimo made the correct statement that joining the latter was a "horrible mistake."

Pavonistade's President Mattheu Azurite had condemned the triumphant coup by saying that "the Ocelotian people had neither consented to a coup nor to a military junta." Of course, while the people did not really give consent for the coup, and while they also did not consent the creation of a junta, both are necessary for the good of the Ocelot Isles. The coup is executed so as to end the domestic horrors of the Ocelotian Administration, and the junta is here to end the slow and useless annoyances of "democracy."

Jumping in too was Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianka Lawrence, who stated that Pavonistade will "not recognize 'Generalissimo' Alexei Spalin as the leader of the Ocelot Isles and will not see the junta as the legitimate government." It is a poor choice made by Pavonistade's Minister of Foreign Affairs and thus it is better for her (and President Azurite) to be replaced with someone more intelligent. To condemn all of Pavonistade for the ill choices of some (unlike Governor-Presidents) is not the best idea for the Generalissimo, who of course is more reasonable than the corrupt Governor-President.

The Esquarian Union joined the stupid party against the Generalissimo. Fat cats of the inefficient commission have decided to "temporarily" shut down the membership of the Ocelot Isles. It is not such a bad thing, as the Ocelot Isles should not have joined the appalling network of idiots long ago. The big mistake made by Von Osestadtie would be reversed by the Generalissimo. He stated that "with personal consideration, the Ocelot Isles shall formally leave the stupid organization known as the Esquarian Union." Again, to mock other members of the Esquarian Union is not a good choice, just like how condemning all Pavonistadians is not a good choice too.

It is not known how the Generalissimo will handle the international community that is mounting against the righteous junta. We do know, however, that the Generalissimo called for Pavonistade/Esquarian Union/all opponents to "be aware" of their actions, and that the seeds planted by the coup shall be reaped by a future generation that the Generalissimo can be proud of.
Our freedoms are being suppressed by this crazy junta! We need help in stopping Spalin's reign of terror!

Members of ASQ terrorist branch attack an "NSF convoy" that turns out to be an attempt by another ASQ branch to attack the NSF
JANUARY 20, 2015- Yujin, Qianrong- The decentralized nature of the Alliance for Sovereignty in Qianrong may reflect its goal of seeing Qianrong divided along ethnic lines, but it's become obvious why ASQ Supreme Leader Ngo Huu Tra wants that to change following an embarrassing incident where two different local ASQ branches attacked each other, both attempting to plot revenge for the rescue of Song Li-Chao by the National Security Forces.

Late on January 18, an ASQ branch in Yujin published a video claiming to have scored a great victory in their struggle. The terrorist in the video claimed that members of his branch had gunned down a large NSF convoy outside the city in the jungles of Daliang Province. The convoy, en route to a military facility in Xingyun, had been totally destroyed. Nobody had been left alive, and all the equipment had been destroyed. They claimed it as a great victory, and as a strike at the NSF in response to the NSF's rescue of Song Li-Chao on January 10.

This morning, however, the ASQ branch in Xingyun published a video, saying that the Yujin branch had not attacked the National Security Forces at all. Apparently, the Xingyun branch had fabricated NSF uniforms and stolen NSF equipment and was planning to enter the military facility in Xingyun in disguise before initiating a slaughter within the base. Instead, the convoy had been totally destroyed en route, leaving the facility in Xingyun safe and sound. In the process, all the effort put in by both sides was totally wasted; instead of a great victory, the ASQ now faces great humiliation.

Chairman of the National Transitional Council Li Jian-Zheng has told the press that the revelation of such a failure by the ASQ is "a sign of hope in a strange way," explaining that "through this incident we are reminded that the ASQ is flawed, is fragile, and can be defeated. We see that the ASQ can be attacked, can be humiliated, and know that we will be able to do so ourselves." The word of the botched attack has also brought much laughter to many in Qianrong, as a symbol of ASQ incompetence and incapability. The fear that the ASQ was an unstoppable terrorist juggernaut has been severely damaged by the rescue of the Chancellor and by the ASQ's attack on itself.

The ASQ's Supreme Leader, Ngo Huu Tra, has not released any statements. However, it is known that Ngo has insisted that his terror group must centralize if it is to continue in its campaign of violence and murder. He has executed opponents of his centralization in the past and has vowed that he will make the group more coordinated and better-planned. If Ngo is successful, the ASQ could become far more dangerous. The present structure still allows for this sort of incident; if Ngo has his way, though, the terrorists will know who is an innocent civilian, who is a soldier defending civilians, and who is a fellow terrorist murderer. As such, we may not see this sort of incident again.

The NSF has vowed to continue its campaign to destroy the ASQ, though, and has urged that the NTC keep it in the best possible position. The NTC is likely to seek restrictions on how the military can operate, and has moved to make the military more subordinate to the state. The NSF may use the continued ASQ threat to urge against such measures, arguing that they might hamper their ability to prevent the centralization of the ASQ. At present, however, no formal measures have been taken.

National Transitional Council demands maximum possible compensation for Luziyca's betrayal of Qianrong during the Second Domestic Terror War
JANUARY 20, 2015- Bethlehem, Luziyca- The National Transitional Council has responded to a communique sent by Luziycan President Breuvi Shjoraski on January 10, demanding "the maximum possible compensation from the Luziycan government," citing Luziyca's "total betrayal of trust, including it's disregarding of the now-defunct alliance... which has caused not only massive damage to Qianrong's infrastructure and security, but has also robbed her citizens of their loved ones and of their security in their homes."

Luziyca's Shjoraski sent the message shortly following Song Li-Chao's rescue from the ASQ; it is also his first real statement on the Luziycan betrayal and his only apology for his country's actions. He apologized to Song Li-Chao in the letter, asking his forgiveness(Song, still in recovery, has not yet responded, though we doubt that Song will respond positively). Shjoraski also offered $1,500,000,000 to help rebuild Qianrong following the Winter Rebellion. He added that Luziyca was willing to increase the size of the package to $5,000,000,000 if requested. He also offered to send observers and assistants to oversee reconstruction.

Today the National Transitional Council released an official response, demanding maximum monetary compensation while rejecting offers to send observers. "Luziyca had sworn to defend Qianrong against such threats, and had signed treaties to that effect," the statement said. "Breuvi Shjoraski told Song Li-Chao that Luziyca would honor this obligation, in person. However, Luziyca's government broke its word. The Luziycan betrayal has resulted in hundreds of civilians being murdered by the ASQ, imperiling the safety of all Qianrongese civilians. The ASQ has destroyed Qianrongese infrastructure, assaulted historical and cultural areas, and conducted a terror campaign against all sectors of Qianrongese society. As Luziyca did nothing, Qianrongese civilians lost their parents, siblings, spouses, and children to the hands of the ASQ. Legally obligated to stop the ASQ's ruthless terror campaign, Luziyca made no move to assist until it was clear that Qianrong was looking to more trustworthy nations."

"As such," the statement said, "we feel wholly justified in demanding that the Luziycan government offer the maximum possible compensation for its criminal inaction in Qianrong, which has led to hundreds of deaths and has made Qianrongese citizens wary of visiting their own public spaces."

The NTC also rejected the offer to send Luziycan observers. "The Qianrongese government is perfectly capable of doing what must be done, and is undoubtedly more qualified to do so than Luziyca." And as if Luziyca's mixture of ignorance and apathy wasn't enough reason, the statement then added that "we know perfectly well how the Luziycan CIA functions, and will not see Qianrong become the next Ocidenia"- referring to the CIA-backed coup that put Simeon Brozhav in power in Ocidenia.

Luziyca has not officially responded to the Qianrongese statement. However, it would be incredibly difficult for Shjoraski to go back on his word now- though he very well might, if the past is any sign. Many Qianrongese citizens have applauded the statement, though some have proposed that the NTC should avoid any offers of Luziycan "blood money".

"Song Li-Chao will be given an honorary spot on the National Transitional Council," Li tells press as Song remains in recovery
JANUARY 20, 2015- Seongyun, Qianrong- In a move likely intended to try and heal the gash that has divided Qianrong since the beginning of the Winter Rebellion, Li Jian-Zheng said today that Song Li-Chao will be given an honorary spot on the National Transitional Council.

The NTC consists of Li Jian-Zheng, Huan Gang-Hi, Tran Minh Triet, Lin Chuan-Yeng, Iligtas Katarungan, Seng Bu-Zhang, Nguoc Bieu Tinh, Zhong Fang-Ye, Wu Guo-Sun, and Chiang Shui-Kai. Of the council, seven were pro-UDCQ- Li, Huan, Tran, Lin, Katarungan, Seng, and Nguoc. The remaining three- Zhong, Wu, and Chiang- were pro-AQNS. Li has made it clear that he wants the NTC to be broadly representative of Qianrong, and giving Song a seat on it- even an honorary one- helps in that respect. It will guarantee that the Second Independent State government being created by the NTC will be one that all Qianrongese citizens can support.

Some in the pro-UDCQ camp, however, are unhappy that a gesture is being made to please the pro-AQNS camp, particularly the gesture being made. Song Li-Chao was the final Chancellpr of the Free Democratic Republic, and some fear that the SISQ may resemble the FDRQ too much if Li continues on this present course. However, these complaints have also been muted because the chair is an honorary one, not an actual chair, as Song remains in recovery. So wile symbolically on the Council, Song won't exactly be contributing his ideas to the discussion.

Song has not been seen in public since his rescue, in part due to the delicate nature of the recovery process. Song was tortured extensively, physically and psychologically, by the ASQ, and is presently recuperating from the experience. However, hospital staff have said that he "has accepted" what happened to the FDRQ, meaning he isn't likely to try and revive it. He has not, however, responded to Li's most recent offer.

Namor recalls ambassador from the Ocelot Isles following coup
Наморайин | English

NAMO - The Foreign Ministry says it is recalling its ambassador from the Ocelot Isles after a sudden coup in the island country replaced the democratically-elected government with a military junta.

Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong issued a statement to the Ocelotian and Pavonistadian governments informing them of this decision. He said that "in light of the political turmoil ongoing in the Ocelot Isles, Namor believes this is an internal affair for the Ocelotians and that everything should be solved by the Ocelotian people themselves." In the communique, Shen said that the recalling of Namorese ambassador to the Ocelot Isles Bao Li should not be taken as "either a sign of approval or disapproval to developments in the Ocelot Isles," and that this move was taken "to ensure the ambassador's safety and nothing more."

A coup d'etat occurred in the Ocelot Isles, an island country which was formerly claimed by Pavonistade. "Armed demonstrators" captured the country's Governor-President. Alexei Spalin, a self-proclaimed "Generalissimo," seized power, called the coup a "new revolution," and accused the overthrown government of being corrupt and unable to bring about economic progress. He hinted that his regime will "install the models of Pavonistade for the good of the people" although Pavonistade condemned the coup, saying that the Ocelotian people did not consent to it. After the Luziycan-led "Esquarian Union (EU)" suspended the Ocelot Isles' membership, the junta announced the country's withdrawal from the organization.

Besides recalling its ambassador from the Ocelot Isles, the Executive House has yet to make clear whether it supports or opposes the "Generalissimo"'s government; on one hand it called on the Ocelotian people to manage their affairs but added that it did not approve nor disapprove of recent happenings there.

The Foreign Ministry says the situation is "not severe to the extent" that Namorese citizens in the Ocelot Isles are urged to leave the country, but "nonetheless they should look after themselves and keep in touch with us."

"We must reiterate that the political situation in the Ocelot Isles does not alter its status as an independent sovereign state," Shen said.

Luziyca to give ₤2.5 billion to the National Transitional Council
Image
Flag of the NTC of Qianrong

BETHLEHEM, F.C. - Ten days after President Breuvi Shjoraski sent an offer, Shjoraski responded by authorizing the transfer of ₤2.5 billion to the National Transitional Council, the maximum amount that was presented in the communique to help rebuild Qianrongese infrastructure. However, the National Transitional Council has refused the offer of Luziycan observers.

The release read "Luziyca had sworn to defend Qianrong against such threats, and had signed treaties to that effect. Breuvi Shjoraski told Song Li-Chao that Luziyca would honor this obligation, in person.

It then requested that Luziyca give the Qianrongese the maximum amount presented in the communique sent to the National Transitional Council, before rejecting the offer of observers to monitor elections, with the explanation that went "The Qianrongese government is perfectly capable of doing what must be done, and is undoubtedly more qualified to do so than Luziyca," and feared that Qianrong would become the next Ocidenia.

Breuvi Shjoraski said that "As much as I felt disappointed by them rejecting the observers, I am not surprised. We stood by idly, and did not do much. We are to blame for our inaction, and we hope that this grant of ₤2.5 billion shall help start us off on the long road to recovery.

OCELOTIAN JUNTA: ITS MOVES AND WHAT TO DO WITH IT
Massacre kills many, Namor's ambassador withdrawn, President discusses war

Date: January 20, 2015

Writer: Ian Levoulon

Image
Anti-junta protesters have clashed with armed police,
ordered by Generalissimo Spalin and Commissioner Vive to
open fire on "counter-revolutionaries."

Several updates appeared as the Ocelotian junta continues to exist in its country. Among the Ocelot Isles's withdrawal from the Esquarian Union came anti-junta protests that had erupted into lethal clashes by early morning. Namor became involved in the situation, and the President suggests a Third Ocelotian-Pavonistadian is likely. In the Esquarian Union, the Esquarian Commission declared the Ocelotian withdrawal as "an invalid move by an illegal government." The Pavonistadian delegate to the Esquarian Union supported this decision.

Anti-junta protests were vigorous but peaceful, and had quickly garnered popularity among the Ocelotians within and outside of the country. While there were counter-protesters, the revelation of Generalissimo Alexei Spalin's plans for the country significantly cut the number of counter-protesters. As the protest extends into the night, people set up tents across the streets in Kongeuvia and all Ocelotian cities. One demonstrator supposedly stated that "they will not return [to their homes] until the Generalissimo is removed and democracy is restored."

They had stayed outside and the situation was rather calm---that is, until at around 5:00 pm the Generalissimo and Police Commissioner Frederick Vive ordered the Ocelotian Armed Police Force to invade the camped territories and open fire on the protesters. By 8:00 pm, it is estimated that at least 300 have died from the police attack, with many accepting it as "containing the element of surprise," and this was an impetus for protester retaliation. Protesters attacked the armed police with items they could find or have (especially rocks and shoes) as armed police used tear gas and more firearms.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Namor had recalled Bao Li, the Ambassador of Namor to the Ocelot Isles (supposedly he and other ambassadors are away from the violent clashes). As well as announcing the withdrawal of the ambassador, Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong said that "this [situation] is an internal affair for the Ocelotians" and its fate will be determined "by the Ocelotian people themselves." The Generalissimo responded by saying that "the withdrawal of the [Namorese] ambassador from our country is a mistake," but claimed that he "will respect the decisions of the People's Republic."

President Azurite held another press conference minutes after the emergency session in the Parliament. First, he expressed disapproval of the massacre in the Ocelot Isles, saying "[t]he junta, and all governments of Esquarium, does not have the right to oppose and provoke protesters by using armed violence." He then moved on to Namor's statement and stated that "while the Ocelotians should not have a situation that is affected by foreign sources [...] the inhumane tensions are too close to home to be ignored."

Finally, the President said that war with the Ocelot Isles is possible. He announced, "[t]here is a chance that we will see a war against the junta. It is a decision that we are considering as we speak, and it will be approved by the Parliamental War Committee [Parliament's body for approving war moves] if the Ocelotian situation reaches the degree that justifies war."

I feel terribly sorry for everyone that lost the lives to the enslaved armed police. I'm pretty sure, no matter how unlikely, that the armed police was made to kill the Ocelotians against their will, and that somewhere in their hearts they feel sorry for the lives they were forced to take out.

Liberationist MC says Luziyca should compensate for Vulan
Наморайин | English

NAMO - A Liberationist Member of the Central Council said he wants to see Luziyca compensate the Namorese government for crimes committed in the Vulan Massacre by Luziycan troops.

Legislator Lin Wu said that he was inspired by the new Qianrongese government's demands for a "maximum monetary compensation" from Luziyca. The Qianrongese National Transitional Council said that Luziyca did not help out Qianrong in fighting ASQ militants, leading to hundreds of civilian deaths which Qianrong says might have been prevented if Luziyca wasn't inactive. Luziycan President Breuvi Shjoraski took the initiative in offering up to P35,000,000,000 in compensation to Qianrong; Qianrong responded by saying that it is "justified" in demanding compensation from Bethlehem although it did not mention any numbers.

Lin now says he wants Luziyca to compensate Namor too - for the massacre by Luziycan soldiers against Namorese civilians in the border town of Vulan back in NMR 2336.

"Luziyca should pay the Namorese people for what it did in Vulan," he told The Liberator. "No one has forgotten what the Luziycan soldiers did to our people that morning. 15 civilians and one border guard, gunned down by intruding [Luziycan] troops, murdered in cold blood. 35 civilians wounded, some of them permanently disabled. All because the Luziycans entered Namorese territory. And yet Luziyca hasn't apologized, nor have they apologized. This atrocity must go down in history as what it is - an atrocity. And the perpetrators must pay."

According to Lin, "hundreds of civilians died in Qianrong and Luziyca paid. How can Luziyca not do the same over the deaths of fifteen people?"

Regardless of what one thinks about detente which the Fu administration is upholding, that does not mean Luziyca should not compensate or acknowledge that the massacre in Vulan was a wrongdoing, said Lin.

"There are families in Vulan. Many of them still remember that morning when the lives of their friends and relatives were taken away," he said. "They will never remain silent. They will remember. Nothing can conceal this, not even detente. I think the President-General should demand for a compensation. If he doesn't do that and the excuse is 'detente,' he will show no respect for the Namorese people, no respect for the people who know somebody whose lives were cut short by Luziycan bullets.

"When President-General Wolf saw Shjoraski in Bethlehem, she did tell Shjoraski to apologize and pay up, but Shjoraski refused," said Lin. "Now admittedly the Luziycans are going to be stubborn when we approach them, but if we want to see results we have to jab at them repeatedly. Luziyca will win if we stay silent. If we stay silent, it's equivalent to us saying 'hey, forget it.' This is not the attitude of a people's republic."

Lin says he is thinking about proposing a resolution in the Central Council demanding Luziyca compensate for its actions in Vulan. When asked how much money Luziyca should pay, he said that "I haven't thought of that number yet, but it's going to be a price that the family and friends of the victims will find acceptable. How much Luziyca should compensate is not Shjoraski's call, but Vulan's call."

"Other members of the Central Council, Liberationist or not, should bravely step up and join this movement for compensation and justice," he said. "Let Luziyca know that if they genuinely want better relations with Namor, they should face the family and friends of the victims and say sorry. We must take action before it's too late."

On June 2, NMR 2336, Luziycan troops belonging to the 2nd Brigade, Pustinia Regiment entered the Namorese border town of Vulan in West Namor. When confronted by mostly unarmed townspeople alarmed by their presence, the soldiers fired, killing 15 locals and one Namorese border guard. Border guards shot dead two Luziycan soldiers who ran away after gunning tens of people down. The incident was widely condemned in Namor and led to the Third Namo-Luziycan War. The war ended in what some say is a Namorese victory, a strategic and decisive victory both. Luziyca claimed victory also.

Despite widespread recognition of the incident as being perpetrated by the Luziycans and unjustifiable, the Luziycan government claims the soldiers had entered Vulan "by mistake" and thought unarmed civilians were "illegal immigrants."

The Saberian Daily

National Royalist Party chairman Mahmud Ali "Arriba" Noorsalme flees Sabena; executed by the Kraqi Army of the Pure after admitting he was anti-Islamist.

During Salim XII's execution by burning and exploding space craft, the Chairman of the National Royalist Party's chairman Mahmud Ali Noorsalme, nicknamed "Arriba" secretly swore with his colleagues that he would start a civil war against the newly formed republic led by Brigadier Omar Bassam Lee. After days of intense planning and capturing men from local villagers, they decided to attack. But in that first battle they wounded and arrested Noorsalme. He was sent to Kharkhal Prison in the remote island of Marchais. But he escaped by barge to Kraq and fled to the town of Al-Jergia. What he did not know, that corrupt fiend, is that the town was captured by the Caliphate and the Army of the Pure, both Islamist groups! He was anti-Islamist and secular, and when he admitted it to Army of the Pure soldier Khalid Al-Marsadla, he was arrested. Kraqi government spies saw his beheading and escaped the area, thankfully, before they were caught. They reported it to the Kraqi Ambassador in Sabena and reported it to Minister of Defense Raida Raed Safni. Ever since, we have declared war on the Caliphate and the Army of the Pure and sided with the government forces in Kraq, led by President Ahmed Hussein.

Exclusive interview: former Colonel William Yunikovich

Image
Former Colonel William Yanukovich

FENIKSGRAD, PUSTINIA - Today, we managed to obtain an exclusive interview with someone who was at the site of the Vulan Incident in 1996, Colonel William Yanukovich, who served from 1970 until he was given a discharge due to PTSD in 1997 as a result of the events of the Third Namo-Luziycan War. However, he was at the Vulan Incident when it occurred back in 1996.

Our first question that we asked after getting permission was "What was the day like?"
William Yanukovich said, "It was a fine summer mornin'. It was a bit chilly, but that's the desert when the sun is down. We were on night duty, and were supposed to patrol a 16 km stretch of the border. We thought we knew the area on the back our hands: we have gone up and down this stretch for a long time, and we could know every crack, every wire on the border. However, come nightfall, it is a bit difficult to see things."

After this, our second question was "So, what happened that day?"
He replied, "Well, it is complicated. We followed what we normally trekked, but we somehow must've taken the wrong turn. We didn't notice the gap in the fence, since it was a few yards wide, and so we assumed the fence was on the other side. However, as we went deeper, we felt that we were lost. We saw some lights up ahead, and we assumed that it was a ranch, like one nearby it that is a few miles of the fence."

"Did you see the flag?" one of the reporters asked.
"I did not notice it: well, I looked through the binoculars, but it looked about as faint as it did when we were near that ranch near Vulan. So I assumed that he'd probably help us. So we headed towards there, but we discovered it was a town. At the time though, we thought it was an estate or a ghost town, so we kept walking until we felt that we were back on the right side of the border, but unfortunately, townspeople spotted us."

"When you saw someone running out and letting the town know," said a reporter, "what was your instinct?"
"My first instinct," William remarked, "was to ask him. I wanted to ask him if we were on the right side of the border. However, he was shouting for help and alarming the other townspeople. So I tried to give the orders to shoot blanks in the air, and a few, myself included, did so. However, some bastard, who was a private fired the first shot and killed him, Dao Chiang. That action caused many of our regiment to scatter helplessly and fire to kill at the townspeople. I tried to order them to stop, but it was no use, but after half a minute, we felt that we were on the wrong side of the border and we quickly ran back to the right side of the border."

He sighed and continued, "Two of my members, Grigor Pavlovsky, the guy who shot Dao Chiang, and Andrew Adams were killed by border guards and townspeople, but the rest of us made it out safely. However, I felt a huge amount of guilt. I wanted to report this incident to my commander."

"What happened next?" one asked.

William said despondently, "The commander said that 'it was fine, they're just commies anyways.' I was shocked, because I felt that it was wrong: we shot first, but the commander just writes up a false explanation claiming the Namorese shot first and that we did it in self-defense. Well, we did do self-defense, but that was in reaction to the people in Vulan's reaction when Pavlovsky shot Dao Chiang. To make things worse, when the war began, I had to help organize the troops to fight against Namor over this incident: I did not want to kill Namorese, but I felt responsible for it all, how the war snowballed. I was in charge of this patrol group, and I have felt a sense of regret."

"So, after the war, what was the first thing that something was wrong?"
"Well," William stated, "I believed we won because we kept Namor out. However, at my desk job, I started to fret of what I've done on that day; how I want to forgive the people in Vulan, how I felt guilty for not controlling my soldiers and seemingly allowing them to shoot at these innocent men, women and children. When I fell asleep, I had these horrifying nightmares, vividly taking me back to this same date: June 2nd, 1996. I started to drink more alcohol, especially beer and whiskey, just so I can forget that day. Finally, in 1997, I had to leave the military because I was diagnosed with PTSD."

"Did things improve after you were discharged?"
"Not really, no," William sobbed. "Sure, I got a few hundred lira in the mail every month for my pension, but without work, I felt hopeless. I started to abuse my wife and my children, especially when drunk, and always recounting the memories of this war in my abuse. I have felt that I lost my soul, that I lost interest in many activities, but the worst thing was that I felt I was completely and forever alone. Finally, in 2001, I have had enough of my suffering and attempted to kill myself."

"How?" one asked. She couldn't seem to want to explain it fully.
William sighed and said, "I had a pistol. It was Christmas Eve: after my wife and children went to church, I headed to the basement, got out my gun. I loaded it with several bullets, and headed to a chair. I raised my gun to my own head and was prepared to end my life right then and there, and I pulled the trigger and shot myself in the head. I was hospitalized for several months, for treatment after attempting to shoot myself in the head, and to recover from PTSD."

"What was your recovery program like?" a fellow reporter asked.
William stated, "It was cognitive behavorial therapy. Gradually, I was able to handle it, and combined with joining a support group of veterans from the Third Namo-Luziycan War, we were able to share our experiences and not feel so isolated and alone. I was finally discharged in July 2002, and I haven't been hospitalized since. Haven't had a severe PTSD episode since 2006, though the pain never goes away."

A reporter from Nantai then asked, "Do you feel at peace with yourself?"
"No. While life has improved for me, I do not. I feel that I want to return to Vulan, to ask for forgiveness, to apologize for what we did, and to bury the hatchet. I may not suffer as much as I once did, but I still feel the guilt of seeing those men shoot at innocent Namorese. I hope that both Namor and Luziyca conduct a joint-investigation on this and determine, especially the disputes, which narrative is correct. The Luziycan one is not entirely correct, but neither is the Namorese one."

After this interview ends, we bid him farewell.

Fenhang Dao calls state of emergency due to heavy snowfall.

Image

A man stands next to a massive snowdrift..

Fanghang: Records were broken in Fenhang Dao last night because of massive snowfall, and a state of emergency has been declared.

The so called "Snowmaggedon Winter" has brought yet another fresh batch of snow to the island, bringing a whopping 36 inches of snow to the Capital in merely 24 hours. Inland parts of the island have received totals that could measure over 80 inches. In total, the capital has now received 110 inches of snow since December 1st, and has seen record breaking cold.

"I've never seen anything like it. You can't leave the coastline, because the roads to the mountains are covered with snowdrifts the size of five story buildings. Given our northern location, we're able to handle snow, but not this much. Not this much," said Yoo Lin Abe, a convenient store owner in the capital city of Fanghang.

The record snowfall had brought a state of emergency to Fenhang Dao, the second one this year. The first state of emergency took place after a massive snowstorm on January 1st. Most, if not all, government run services throughout the island have closed, and nearly all private businesses have shut down.

The government has sent helicopters and rescue teams to the mountainous regions of Fenhang Dao to rescue people potentially stranded in the snow. The roads to the mountains were hit extremely badly by snowfall. While the mountains of Fenhang Dao are known as some of the snowiest places in Esquarium, the amount of snow in the mountains has broken records.

The death toll from this harsh winter alone is estimated to be up to 49 people, and the death toll can be expected to rise after last night's brutal storm. Tomorrow, the coastal areas can expect lingering clouds and sleet, but can expect a fresh batch of heavy, wet snow on Thursday.

Van Boelle Caught On-Mic calling Luziycan President a "fool" in major gaffe.
Image
Prime Minister Lily Van Boelle issues an apology.

Boswald - Just days after it was announced that Prime Minister Van Boelle may face a motion of no confidence because of her unpopularity, she called the Luziycan president a "fool" thinking that her microphone was off.

This happened after she had a meeting with Breuvi Shjoraski, the President of Luziyca, to discuss political issues, Leeuwarden independence, and the Esquarian Cold War. While relations between Luziyca and Greonterp have never been positive, Van Boelle is facing even more calls to resign.

Prime Minister Van Boelle made the comments after a speech to supporters. She thought her microphone was off when she made the remark about Luziyca. Below is a account of her gaffe.

Advisor to Van Boelle: "Wonderful speech, I forgot to ask, how'd your meeting with Shjoraski to?"

Prime Minister Van Boelle: "Absolutely horrible, the man was a damn fool. I couldn't discuss anything with him, it was a complete waste of time."

After saying that sentence, she realized that her microphone was still on. Van Boelle has faced calls for resignation after the Leeuwarden independence movement, and her approval rating can be expected to slide further. In recent days, she's faced calls to resign, and has faced a looming possibility of a motion of no confidence.

A motion of no confidence would briefly dissolve parliament, ushering in snap elections to determine the new governments. If another election is to be held, the Christian Democratic Alliance can be expected to perform poorly.

After receiving criticism for her "unprofessional" comment, she issued a apology.

"I'm not going to deny what I said, it was unprofessional of me. I apologize to Luziyca, I apologize to President Shjoraski, and I apologize to the people of Greonterp," said Lily Van Boelle.

Luziyca has yet to issue a statement, but this newspaper suspects that this will not help the already tense Greonterp-Luziyca relations.

Alexei Spalin in the Office of the Generalissimo

! Notice ! We apologize for inconvenience in one of the articles we published earlier. An employee that wrote the article apparently hid text that oppose the just junta, and both Generalissimo Daily and the firing squad addressed this issue. We hope that this will not recur, and we apologize again that we allowed this to happen.

It has just been on day since the much-needed coup overthrew the regime of the now-executed Von Osestadtie. It had installed a stable junta that will mend the damages of the horrific Ocelotian "Administration" and will revolutionize the country. Yet while there are rebellious hooligans rioting against what is rightfully our government, we must take time to understand how we are to take off from this lowly place.

To do just that, well-mannered ladies and gentlemen, we had compiled some of the major parts of Generalissimo Alexei Spalin's ambitious plans that will be instilled over the years to come.

1. Abolish the vile entitlements that are "liberties" and "democracy"
Hooligans are whining about how their "freedoms" are being "crushed" by the Generalissimo and the Police Commissioner, and why they want to have their counter-revolutionary, tyrannical system (i.e. democracy) back. Far more sensible than rioters bound for arrest or bullets to their heads, the Generalissimo saw why this was necessary.

He was well-aware that the more "freedom" and "democracy" there is in a country, the more easily that dissidents can oppose the rightful government and do whatever it takes for them to bring anarchy to the country. As well, "democracy" had resulted in unneeded gridlocks and useless bickering that prevented or delayed commended legislation from being passed. This is why Pavonistade was crippled in the past, as with other "democratic" countries. It is a wise choice to watch over the livelihoods of society and all people so as to protect innocent lives, end turmoils, and delay of great projects such as that of the Generalissimo's.

Speaking of putting the end to the former government system that the Ocelot Isles had to bear, the Generalissimo also wanted to stamp out the following items that are detrimental to the revlution:
  • "elections"
  • the "legislature"
  • all "political parties"
  • "votes of no confidence"
  • the positions of Governor-Presidency vice Governor-Presidency, Member of the Legislative Assembly, and so on
  • every single law passed by the Ocelotian "Administration," including the defunct Constitution
2. Replace the corrupt socialist system with a capitalist counterpart
This is a much-needed change that had ought to be done earlier. While the Ocelotian "Administration" claimed to have an economy where businesses can retain their hard-earned profits, we can see that it's actually a coverup for a socialist system. The government wanted to hand paychecks to lazy pigs who earn for miniscule (or even no) work. It wanted the hardest-working people to earn as much as the corrupt idiots that rank lower so that there will be "income equality." It wanted to close the "wealth gap" so they could use it as an excuse to promote their true ideals.

The socialist system encourages both people and the government to be lazy, and no one---not even the brainwashed eventually---should and would ever accept this. Therefore, the Generalissimo will restructure the economy. He will adopt some of the great principles of the political belief that is Matteryorkism. By doing that, he will sweep off the craziness of the formerly-socialist economy and begin a process to introduce capitalism for the promotion of everyone's well-being. Employers and employees will be able to rejoice that no one will slack off for money that they will earn right off the bat, and everyone will be able to fairly contribute not just to the junta, but for all.

3. Significantly build up the Ocelotian Armed Police Forces
The Generalissimo had studied the course of the two Ocelotian-Pavonistadian Wars prior to the rise of the junta. In both cases, he knew just as well as everyone else that the armed police (and the protesters that joined the then-brainwashed police) was incapable of holding out long against an external power like the Pavonistadian Military. Clearly, no matter who is right or wrong, it would be an embarassment to the forces that keep our streets free of terror and are currently keeping the hooligans at check.

A lot more funding would be diverted to building the armed police. First, he will gradually raise the budget (currently at $2 billion) to $7.5 billion over the next two years. The armed police will be granted access to more modern weaponry that will incorporate more works from more like-minded Ocelotians. More vehicles will be provided to the armed police and will be able to help handle an external power for longer. Perhaps, however, the most important part is that he will consider enforcing compulsory armed police service, with the alternate being a non-combat service similar to that of Pavonistade's Volunteer Service.

Surely we shall see more security and defense. The effects will not be seen overnight, but we can be sure that the Ocelot Isles will be a safer place for the generations of tomorrow.

4. Limit travel and trade between the Ocelot Isles and other countries
We should also do something about some of the countries that may support the opposition against the junta, and among the opposition is Pavonistade. Something that the Generalissimo can do is to limit or ban travel between our country and other countries as a deterrent, and that is what he will be doing. He made a list of countries that will face travel penalties and those that will not. We should also note that the penalties will coexist with trade sanctions that will be applied at the same time.

Countries spared from most or all sanctions
Despite being part of the opposition, there is currently one country that is free of the Generalissimo's sanctions, or at least most of them. Nations willing to back up junta (there is at least one) will join this list.
  • Pavonistade
Countries with limited travel and trade sanctions
The Generalissimo was generous enough to spare these countries from full sanctions.
  • Namor (sympathizer of the Ocelotian "Administration")
  • Qianrong (suffered from the Winter Rebellion)
Countries stamped with full travel and trade sanctions
Some countries will just have to do with the full force of the Ocelotian penalties. In fact, these penalties could just be a start.
  • "Democratic" countries, from Ainin to West Cedarbrook
  • Esquarian Union members and observers
    • East Cortoguay
    • Katranjiev
    • Kofeiya
    • Kraq
    • North Deweden
    • Luziyca

SANCTIONS TO BE PLACED AGAINST OCELOT ISLES FOLLOWING COUP
PM warns that junta’s actions could invite military intervention

21 January 2015 Last updated 19:34 Geadish Standard Time

The government has announced that it would place trade sanctions on the Ocelot Isles, after a democratically-elected government was ousted in a military coup last Monday. The Foreign Ministry has advised Geadish citizens against “all unnecessary travel” to the islands and for those currently residing there to leave. The island nation has a population of 900,000 and became independent from Pavonistade less than a year ago. It is best known in Geadland for being a somewhat exotic holiday destination, with warm tropical weather all year round.

The coup occurred when masked gunmen and members of the Ocelotian Armed Police Force gained control of government buildings and took most of the country’s leading politicians hostage. The leader was revealed to be Alexei Spalin, a military officer who was now styling himself as the “Generalissimo” of the Ocelot Islands. Within the next 24 hours, Ocelotian media published news articles that showered praises on the Spalin regime, denounced democracy and promising an increase in military spending and a reversal of the democratic government’s “socialist” economic policies.

The junta ordered the summary execution of the former head of government Julien von Osestadtie and many leading figures in the previous government and judiciary. Some media sources have reported that Von Osestadtie’s family were also sent to the firing squad. The following day, it was reported that the military had open fired on crowds of protesters who had assembled and camped out to demonstrate against the coup.

The military junta also said that it would impose “sanctions” on the majority of countries in Esquarium, including Geadland, by banning travel both ways between these nations and restricting trade. It has not said in detail how much trade would be restricted. Pir Kouber, the Minister of Trade and Commerce, said that “These ‘sanctions’ will have little effect on Geadland, or any other nation for that matter. The Ocelot Isles is on the other side of the world and has a smaller population than 12 of Geadland’s 15 counties. Trade between us and them is miniscule. It seems to be daft posturing by Mr. Spalin in order to make himself look like he has clout on the world stage.”

The coup required the participation of a large number of armed personnel, causing speculation that the coup was carried out with foreign assistance. Spalin spoke favourably of Pavonistade and said it was the only country that he would not place sanctions against. However, the Pavonistadian government opposes the coup. Back in Geadland, Defence Minister Micheil Boorten said that “It seems unlikely that the Luziycan CIA was involved. Luziyca has supported the decision to suspend the Ocelot Isles from the Esquarian Union, while the Spalin regime has cut off travel and most trade with Luziyca.”

Geadland’s ambassador and diplomatic staff were recalled yesterday due to safety concerns and the country’s embassy in Kongeuvia is currently empty. The government has announced that it would impose a trade embargo on the Ocelot Isles, with the exception of food and medicine. Any assets held in Geadland by those Ocelotians who are connected to the coup will be frozen.

In a statement to the House of Representatives, Nordland announced the sanctions and said that military intervention would be the next step if international condemnation and sanctions did not work:
We are all shocked by the horrific scenes we have seen this week in the Ocelot Isles. A government whose first action in power is to commit mass murder does not deserve to be a government. All countries must do their part to weaken the regime with sanctions. Geadland does not have significant trade and cultural links with the Ocelot Isles, so our actions alone will have little effect, but they are still necessary. Only when other countries following will they have any form of impact. Pavonistade is likely to lead the way.

If the situation deteriorates – if the sanctions have no impact and the killings continue unabated, then free nations should consider employing military intervention to save the Ocelot Isles from a humanitarian crisis.”

The House of Representatives adopted the bill with no opposition.

FM Campbell: Ocelotian coup "proof why we don't recognize independence"

Image
FM Elizabeth Campbell speaks to the press corps
in the Foreign Office yesterday

ABERLEFEN, SCOTIA - Foreign Minister Elizabeth Campbell has told the press corps on Wednesday that the recent coup in the separatist-controlled Ocelot Isles "is proof of why our government has refused to recognize the independence of this instability-prone part of Pavonistade. Now with this so-called 'Generalissimo' in power in Kongeuvia, we feel that the people's rights are going to be violated." This comes after numerous countries slapped trade sanctions on the separatist entity.

Speaking in a press conference at the Foreign Office yesterday, FM Campbell also said that the ministry will be in close touch with Pavonistadian authorities in regards to the Ocelot Islands, but for now we are monitoring the situation."

Currently, the Scotian Government considers the islands as an integral part of Pavonistade, a stance it has maintained since the 1990 referendum, which the government under Tòiseach Ciorstag Saomùlong interpreted as a referendum on whether or not to merge with Pavonistade. Despite requests by Ocelotian authorities, successive Tòisigh have maintained their stance, especially after the recent independence referendum last year when the current Tòiseach David MacLeod stated that the government's stance is unchanged.

Guilco to expand further into Namor; expected to have 1,000 stores by 2020

NAMO, NAMOR - Guilco's CEO Nikola Velikov and Chairman Robert Guilfoyle III have jointly announced that Guilco would expand further into Namor, saying that the Scotian retail giant will have at least 1,000 stores in the country by 2020. The announcement comes after the recent announcement by Luziycan retail chain Karshev's that they'll also expand further into the country by 2020.

As the two opened Guilco's latest store in the city of Huangjin, CEO Velikov also stated that the company will also be opening stores in towns and cities that currently don't, including the cities of Kusef, Ngam, Ngenh Ngenh, Haidi, Arra, Kirklund, and Bashi-Bashgar. And in a jab at the recent comments by Txotai's head of state regarding Karshev's employment practices, Guilco's chairman stated that the company "respects all labor laws, Namorese and Scotian. You can bet us on that."

Currently, Guilco has 729 stores since it first opened in Namor around 1992, mostly in major cities like Namo and Mojing, as well as in the districts of Xhinan, Xhipei, and Southern Namor. Within Namor, its two main international competitors, Karshev's and Francillian giant Croisement have two stores each.

Navy to Blockade Kraq; Border Improvement Act Approved

January 21st, 2015

Armed Forces Casualities by Area of Conflict

Irvadistan - 23 dead
32 wounded
Kraq - 39 dead
52 wounded
Qianrong - 11 dead
29 wounded
Sinro City, New Zepuha - In response to the supposed deployment of Ionland troops to Kraq, Chancellor Knitler has ordered that Carrier Group South spread itself across the Kraqi coast and blockade any attempts at landing troops into Kraq. The carrier group having already been anchored off the coast has complied with it's orders and will fire upon any Ionian ships attempting to break the blockade. "The fact that we were un-notified and that Ionian troops are entering to counteract our efforts in the region as well as those of Koyro, I cannot idly stand by as what could be called enemy troops assault our efforts in Kraq. No ship without the express permission of Koy or Zepuhan naval authorities may pass through, Ionian ships will be fired upon. President Huntleigh, the choice of whether this escalates is yours to make." warned Chancellor Knitler, "Your troops have until the 28th before I toss them out by their scruff."

Since that order a further division of infantry has been put on alert and a tank battalion has been attached to them in case of further deployment orders; as a renewed air campaign has started to crush insurgent resistance as a new plan enters action to push Insurgent to an isolated pocket up north. Each of the three regiments will have a sector command, two regiments will form a pincer that will lock out a center pocket for the last regiment to squeeze out the insurgents like a pimple. It will begin the 23rd after a full day of bombing sorties. Construction details have already finished construction on two forts one including an airport. There will be a central command fortification along the southern coast that will also house the detainment center for captured insurgents, and the south-central located outpost will house an airfield to allow introduction of Aeroforce units into the AO and relieve the Navy of it's air responsibilities.

In addition to the Kraq situation, the Border Improvement Act was signed into law today by Chancellor Knitler as a movement towards stronger border control. It approves vast amounts of fencing along all land borders and 'hardpoints' meant to bolster the security of land entry routes. The Bureau of Customs and Border Patrol has also been afforded an additional 20 million dollars to hire new personnel and strengthen hard points. The bill also introduces new alien laws, where anyone caught crossing illegally may face a maximum of 1 year imprisonment before deportation.

Foreign Minister: No need for Nevanmaa to take action regarding Ocelot Isles coup

NEVANLINNA - Nevan Foreign Minister Olavi Linkomies has announced that Nevanmaa has no intention of interfering in the Ocelot Isles crisis, sparked by the coup d'etat of generalissimo Alexei Spalin.

The monday's coup was swift and quickly ousted the democratically elected government of Julien von Osestadtie. The leader of the group, Alexei Spalin, has already issued a statement denouncing "freedom, democracy and socialism", announcing a massive buildup of Ocelot Isles armed forces and instituting broad travel and trade restrictions.

The coup has brought about widespread condemnation and demands for a military intervention among Esquarian nations. Linkomies stated that the "it is rather clear that the coup was done to promote personal, not national gain" and that the "execution of so-called dissidents was nothing but extrajudicial murder".

Despite Nevanmaa's condemnation of the coup, it was also announced that Nevanmaa will not participate in any kind of coalition to overthrow the military junta nor will Nevanmaa institute any sanctions. Linkomies stressed that the official view of the Nevan government is that Ocelot Isles is not yet ready for independence and should remain as a part of Pavonistade, and that what takes place inside Pavonistade belongs to the Pavon Interior Ministry, not to the Nevan Foreign Ministry.

A small gaffe took place towards the end of the press conference, when Linkomies apparently believed that the TV cameras had been turned off and jokingly stated that "Pavonistade should seriously survey the condition of their armed forces if they cannot pacify a self-proclaimed unstable banana republic located seven meters off the Pavon coast and whose population consists of sixteen people and a monkey."

Nevanmaa will not consider relegalization of segregation in municipalities

NEVANLINNA - Interior Minister Aleksi Siekki has announced that the current government will not seek the ban outlawing segregation in municipalities, one of the few reforms successfully instituted by Rantala's liberal government.

"Traditionally, new governments have not overturned any specific legislation instituted by the former government. This is no exception, and the Council of State believes that overturning the law would not be beneficial", stated Siekki.

The Act, which was passed shortly after the March election banned municipalities from segregating public areas like parks and beaches based on race. Segregation of public areas was banned on a national level in 1971 but was allowed in municipalities until 2014.

The ban has been strongly opposed by the Patriotic Front and several other minor parties, as well as by some backbenchers of the ruling National Coalition on the basis that it is in direct violation of the Municipal Basic Law and the principle of municipal autonomy.

OP-ED: Ocelotian Generalissimo a taste of what an IR govt. looks like in Nevanmaa
By: Michael Abercrombie

ImageImageImage
Alexei Spalin, Nestori Konala, and Paavo Somerjoki: three birds of the same feather

Recently, we've seen the news of the coup in the Ocelot Isles by the so-called "Generalissimo" Alexei Spalin, who overthrew the government of the separatist administration and the subsequent imposition of a military junta. And you may heard of the atrocities he has (so far) committed, such as the vile execution-style murder of the previous Governor-President Julien von Osestadtie, and several people opposed to his rule. So far, many countries around the world, including some of the countries that do recognize their independence (like Michillies) are turning their backs on the junta by placing sanctions on the Isles and in the case of the Esquarian Community, kicking them out for the time being. But for us at the Courier, we feel that this junta, which has so far outlawed the "vile entitlements that are 'liberties' and 'democracy,'" are a taste of what happens if the Patriotic Front (Isänmaallinen Rintama) somehow was able to take control of the Nevan government.

OK, you may ask: How? or Why? or How the heck are you guys coming up with this baloney?

Allow me to answer your questions by regaling you with an alternate scenario. As you all know, Nevanmaa recently held elections two weeks ago that ultimately produced a center-right coalition led by the (conveniently-named) National Coalition. Of course, we know from the real world that the Patriotic Front never got a spot in the government, despite being the fourth-largest party in the Eduskunta. Now we wonder, what would happen if the Patriotic Front somehow found itself in that coalition, or worse became a majority in the Nevan parliament.

If you've seen the more radical Protection Troops that Mr. Konala is trying to expunge from the party, you would pretty much find a grim picture if they somehow swept into power with the IR. They might feel liberated to seek out and eliminate threats to their rule. Some of them could be members of some left-wing parties (the IR did in fact, want to extend the anti-republican ban to parties even more left-wing than the Nevan Social Democratic Party), though who's to say that the Protection Troops could start (on a whim) targeting everyone to the left of well, themselves? And then what? Well, they (and I mean the government, not the Protection Troops) might say, send in the troops to kill the Outer Nevan protest movement. Or make NOSDO go to war with Michillies for the sole purpose of restoring a long-dead monarchy the nobody wanted back in power. Or extend the racial laws to ban everyone other than pure whites. The possibilities are just dreadful.

Thankfully (despite our utter distaste for the National Coalition), we can raise our glasses and thank God (or Songte) that the Nevans picked them and a bunch of other parties into the government at Kamppi Palace, instead of those crazies in the Patriotic Front.

Breaking - Simnanese gunmen take hostages inside Plavagrad mall

Plavagrad - Sakatia Today - - Gunmen belonging to the Simna Liberation Army took hostages inside the Federation Mall in downtown Plavagrad. The gunmen apparently arrived in several vehicles, identified as transit vans. The gunman then entered through 4 of the mall's entrances, shooting at police and mall security. The gunmen subsequently took hundreds of shoppers hostage and are currently demanding Simna be granted full autonomy and the right to decide its future, in return for the hostages to be released unharmed.

The Plavagrad Metropolitan Police and the Sakatian Federal Police have surrounded the mall, shutting down the central district of the capital. President Salkov will be speaking to the nation later this evening, as the situation develops. The State Security Service (SGB) said that President Salkov has been moved to a secure location.

So far no hostages have been confirmed dead, however the gunmen have threatened to kill hostages if their demands are not met. Sakatia Today urges our readers to tune into Sakatia-1 or other reliable news services for immediate information. We will keep our readers updated on the situation.

Foreign Ministry urges Namorese citizens to leave Ocelot Isles after junta threat
Shen: Does not understand why Ocelotian junta's rhetoric against Namor so "exacerbated"
January 21, NMR 2374

NAMO, CAPITAL DISTRICT - Foreign Minister Shen Wuhong said that the ministry has officially urged all Namorese citizens in the Ocelot Isles to leave the country "immediately" after the junta currently administering the country warned it will take action against the Namorese government soon.

The Generalissimo Daily, the news source that is aligned with the junta that seized power in the Ocelot Isles, noted that self-proclaimed "Generalissimo" Alexei Spalin is responding to "growing hooliganism and international anger." It threatened to "go to the extreme" against anti-government protesters and reported that 550 "idiots" were already killed by junta forces. In addition, the junta threatened sanctions against many countries, including Namor, which it placed "limited travel and trade sanctions" on. Pavonistade was the only country the junta said would be spared from its sanctions.

But the junta stiffened its tone against Namor, mentioning it in its latest announcement. Pro-junta media said that "generalissimo" Spalin "will soon deal with Namor's despicable act of supporting the Ocelotian 'Administration' [referring to the democratically-elected government which the junta accused of being corrupt and overthrew]." So far it remains unclear how the junta will deal with Namor, an uncertainty which FM Shen says led him to make this decision.

"We are not sure what kind of action the junta in the Ocelot Isles is going to take, especially against us," Shen said. "But it's best to prepare for the worst considering what's been happening there the past few hours. We urge all Namorese citizens in the Ocelot Isles right now to leave the country immediately. This is to ensure their safety in case anything unexpected happens." Shen said that Namorese citizens should take this call seriously, as the embassy in the Ocelot Isles has already been "temporarily" vacated and Namorese remaining in the Ocelot Isles will not receive consular support for too long "depending on the circumstances."

"We are keeping in close contact with Namorese citizens in the Ocelot Isles and we're confident they will make the right choice," Shen said.

FM Shen said that the new junta is not helping things by threatening other countries. What's more, he does not understand why the new regime's attitude towards Namor has to be so "exacerbated."

"For many years Namor has been a supporter of Ocelotian sovereignty and self-determination. The Ocelotian people have had a positive view of Namor, and we Namorese view Ocelotian people positively. There has been a constructive, if not friendly, relationship between our two countries since independence," he said. "We really hope this hasn't been forgotten."

Several countries have suggested military intervening to topple the military government in the Ocelot Isles, with Geadish Prime Minister Nordland saying that "free nations should consider employing military intervention to save the Ocelot Isles" if the "humanitarian crisis" worsens. FM Shen said that he is "neither in favor nor opposition" towards the idea of military intervention. "I'm for anything that works. But that 'anything' must result in the least amount of bloodshed possible and it must have the approval of the Ocelotian people."

This wasn't the first time Namorese citizens were told to vacate the Ocelot Isles. The government has encouraged Namorese in the country to leave during armed confrontations with nearby Pavonistade before the dispute was officially settled.

 President Omar Bassam Lee assassinated by radical Islamist terrorists, week long elections start on January 21, ends at January 28

Voters all over the country line up at ballots after President Omar Bassam Lee's assassination. He built a Trans-Esquarian Tunnel, which connected Sabena with other Esquarian countries. His limo was driving to Namor to meet President-General Fu Wen. Then a Kraqi submarine captured by terrorists fired two torpedoes at the tunnel. The explosion blew the limo upside down and as of January 20, repairs have been undergoing. The candidates are:

Abdullah Samir, Social Democractic Party
Nour Taimaddi, Conservative Union
Saleh Maurnetti, National Royalist Party
Maryam El-Shabbat, Communist Workers Party of Sabena
Khaled Marsusun, Saberian National Congress

For right now the acting president is Mohammad Kourubi of the Liberationist Party of Sabena. Many candidates has made promises to the populace so that they could raise support. For example, Maryam El-Shabbat said "I promise solemnly to the workers of this glorious nation by making them work less hours each week, evening out incomes for the workers, and commencing the projects that give people more jobs all together."

Also please be free to telegram me your opinion on which of the five candidates should be elected to office.

PAVONISTADE AGENCY OF NEWS - NEWS IN BRIEF

-DEVELOPING- Generalissimo Spalin Decides Action On and Against Namor
Image
A picture of deportation in the Ocelot Isles, prior to the
coup. Along with people related to Luziyca and Scotia,
the Namorese will face mandatory emigration.

The Generalissimo Daily, formerly the Ocelotian Gazette as known to many people, had reported that Alexei Spalin "will soon deal with Namor's despicable act of supporting the Ocelotian 'Administration." It has become apparent that the decision for the Namorese came hours after the announcement.

In a video released by the state-sponsored news source, Spalin was shown in the Office of the Generalissimo, formerly the official workplace of Governor-Presidents. It is in that video that the Generalissimo declared that "all people with noticeable relations to Namor or the Namorese will have to be asked to pack up and leave the Ocelot Isles." He also said that the junta "did not forget the efforts of Namor to back the Ocelotians," but he noted that this was not what is important.

"The main issue here is that the Namorese have, in the process, backed up the corrupt Ocelotian 'Administration' and any supporters of this malevolent government. We, as sensible men and women of the Ocelot Isles, know that this cannot be condoned and we must do what is right to show that this is a crime."

He said that any Namorese resisting deporation will not face execution, but will still face punishments. "Friendly or not, we will have them electrocuted on the spot," Spalin spoke sternly. As well, he maximized travel bans and extended trading sanctions to include all products excluding essential goods such as clothing and foods.

Junta Claims Pavonistadian Drone "Intruded into Ocelotian Sovereignty"
Image
A B-5 Predator drone above Eastern islander deserts

One of the spokesperson for the Ocelotian junta claimed that its airspace was violated by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), more specifically a drone, and its origins are allegedly traced to the Pavonistadian Military.

Spokesman Tomas Gortcho represented the junta in a press conference, and he began by claiming that the country's sovereignty was "intruded" by a foreign source. "[...] and we have evidence to point the blame to the Pavonistadian Military," Gortcho told the journalists of Generalissimo Daily and the PAN. "Various squadrons of the Ocelotian Armed Police Force have sighted a B-5 Predator drone within the skies of the Ocelot Isles. We are well-aware that the Pavonistadian Military is becoming ever-more invasive, and we call for it not to repeat its dangerous operations."

Minister of Defense Alain Colton denied any intrusion into Ocelotian airspace, saying that "the armed police have witnessed an object that is not a B-5 Predator and does not belong to the Pavonistadian Military." The Commander-in-Chief, President Mattheu Azurite, did not comment on the alleged drone operation.

The B-5 Predator is one of the drones in service within the Pavonistadian Military. While it is capable of remote combat operations, it is mostly used for reconnaissance.

Ministry of Domestic Affairs: "Spalin is No Longer a Pavonistadian"
Image
Alexei Spalin, pictured yesterday morning

Minister of Domestic Affairs Elisabeth Rifkins, tasked with both internal security and citizenship, announced that Generalissimo Spalin will "no longer [be] a Pavonistadian."

Spalin was born in Lokimia, Western Pavonistade on June 4 of 1955, and thus his birth granted him Pavonistadian citizenship. He immigrated to the Ocelot Isles on 1974 to attempt "starting anew," away from the more-advanced and complicated culture of Pavonistade. He received Ocelotian citizenship on 1979 after living in the Ocelot Isles for more than five years and passing its citizenship process. As for his status in Pavonistade, it was not altered until January 21.

The revocation of a citizenship granted at birth is an extremely rare occurrence, as well as one that requires great justification. In the history of the Pavonistadian States, only two other Pavonistadian-born people---allegedly backers of the Ocelotian Administration in the Ocelotian-Pavonistadian Wars---have their citizenships revoked.

"Spalin himself may be born in Pavonistade," Minister RIfkins stated, "but that does not guarantee him the right to a limitless citizenship. His crimes [...] were reasonable enough that a revocation must be done."

Govt. issues travel ban to separatist-controlled Ocelot Isles

Image
Tòiseach MacLeod announcing the travel ban
to the separatist-controlled Ocelot Isles

ABERLEFEN, SCOTIA - The Scotian Government has now issued a total ban on all travel to the separatist-controlled Ocelot Isles, coming after a threat from the Pavonistadian territory's "Generalissimo" Alexei Spalin to execute anyone "with full or partial Scotian blood" in the islands yesterday.

Announcing the travel ban in front of the press corps at Government House today, Tòiseach David MacLeod said that "luckily, at the moment, we do not have any Scotian nationals living in the separatist-controlled islands nor anyone visiting them since the 2014 referendum. But, with this recent threat from the so-called 'Generalissimo' to execute any of our nationals, we feel we can no longer maintain our general travel advisory to the Ocelot Isles."

A separate general travel advisory was also issued to Pavonistade proper, urging Scotian nationals to be cautious when traveling to the country. Currently, approximately 120 Scotian nationals are present in Pavonistade proper, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Govt. commends Nevan decision not to relegalize segregation

Image
A signpost (c. 2012) prohibiting
access to blacks and mixed-race
people from a beach in
southern Nevanmaa

ABERLEFEN, SCOTIA/NEVANLINNA, NEVANMAA - The Foreign Ministry has commended the decision by the National Coalition-dominated Nevan government not to pursue a repeal on the ban on local discrimination in municipalities across the country.

In a statement released in its website today, "The Foreign Ministry has commended the commonsense decision by the Nevan government not to relegalize municipal segregation. We also hope that more positive changes will follow, but we would also like to remind our Nevan counterparts that full abolition of its racist system is a must before we can pursue further ties between Nevanmaa and Scotia."

Before municipal segregation was outlawed in 2014, approximately 90 municipalities across the country (out of a total of 2,269) had practiced segregation against blacks and mixed-race people in public places, such as beaches and parks. The ban (which has been criticized by the Patriotic Front, as well as some members of the ruling party) was one of the only reforms successfully initiated by the short-lived Liberal govt. of PM Valtteri Rantala.
