A couple first goes through a Religious Union, and when their first child is born, under both religious law and civil, their union is validated. Only nobility may have more than three children, to prevent families having more children than they can take care of. Before childbirth, divorce is possible, but only in extreme cases. Homosexuality is publicly denounced by both the Islamic and Catholic churches, and the government. It is generally accepted that homosexual relationships exist within the society, but no one acknowledges it. Prostitution is harshly prosecuted against. Jatriqya and Hoya has a long history of arranged marriages, but in the past century there has been a growing trend of opposition to arranging marriages, and only about 8% of marriages are arranged today.
