Also, they're often great inspiration themselves. See, I'm now inspired to create a Cold War-era guided missile cruiser for Inutoland, to fit in succession between the Tawa- and Liberator-class cruisers.

Since my military uses T-55s mainly, and the production is cheap, along with the army having a huge stockpile of these things, it was cheaper to add existing technology and improvements instead of going through the cost of RnD to develop new tanks and mothballing the old ones. This frees up funds for other sectors of the military. Interchangeable turrets have been devised for the tank, which allows for a wide variety of applications while keeping the same base platform to ease production and simplify maintenance. Parts are also interchangeable between tanks as well.



1) The T-55 is the base tank with record numbers being produced and employed by the military.
2) The T-55-120 uses a 120mm cannon, and a new turret which resembles more modern MBTs. The cannon is a smooth bore design, "licensed" from the Germans. The chassis and suspension has been significantly modified, though retains much of the same parts of the T-55 base tank. The modification was necessary to accommodate the new turret. The modifications have increased the height of the tank. Crew comfort has been significantly improved.
3) The T-55-305 is a mobile artillery and anti-tank platform. It has the ability to fire 305mm missiles, though this increases the barrel wear. It requires a supply truck to carry ammunition. The weight of the massive gun overloads the suspension significantly, reducing the fuel efficiency as well as the top speed.
4) The T-55Osk acts as an anti-air artillery and mobile SAM.
5) Just the chassis with interchangeable turrets.
6) The basic T-55 with ERA blocks added for improved protection.
7) The T-55-Ssss ??????
8 ) The T-55 Carrier, a T-55 with a large capsule in place of the turret. It is a troop carrier.

EDIT: credit for chassis, base turret, track & suspension SrP 55. 120 turret and cannon was based on design by Marvin Schneck, 305mm was based on a design by N.O. Everything was modified from original by me. The other turrets were created from scratch.

No you haven't but I looked when I saw your creds, "Credit to Almire for turrets and Fash" makes it sound like Almire gave you Fash as well.
