Dogs, largely because they can be trained to be useful. Cats are untrainable.

Our country features limited number of domesticated cats but on average every household owns at least two dogs. Dogs are common and beloved within our borders.

Cats are far more popular in the Isle of Kesha. They are actually the national animal.

Of the two only cats are kept as pets.

Dogs are only work animals. Shepherding, bomb sniffing, search and rescue, etc.

Cats are by far and away the most popular pet. We also use big cats as guard/attack animals.
We have a few dogs but they are mostly regarded as idiots, but the dog house at the zoo is somewhat popular because people like to go there and have a laugh at the stupid things they do.

Cats. Both species are thought of highly, but cats bear a resemblance to the sacred Sanrio Kittens and thus gain a few points of admiration by association.

Canines have ritualistically been part of Syleru for a long time. Canis Syleruias (Checkerings) is a brown dog with exceptional vision and speed whilst also being slim with large eyes. Though resembling a fox, it shares it's ancestry with Retrievers.

Border Collies and Checkerings are highly regarded as extremely adaptable, trainable and arguably a much more efficient first level sentry against robberies and assaults. Most families have, at one time, owned some form of canine, whether it be a Collie, a Poodle or even German Shepherds.

We don't keep cats as pets. That would just be weird.

The majority of households with pets have dogs (Mastiff, Great Dane, Newfoundland, etc are the most popular). The only difference between households with cats vs. dogs is that among cat breeds, one breed of cat is present in about 3/4 of all households with cats; the majestic Tsvarchivan white lion(ess), while households with dogs are much more varied.

Sapient CPUs, which have become sapient despite not having any programming intentionally installed for that purpose, are our favorite pets.

Dogs and cats are just too tiny for Decepticons to interact with in any meaningful way, but formerly-human immigrants are more likely to attempt to do so with dogs. If you imagine a fly on a human fingertip, you have the size ratio of the average dog species in comparison to one of us. Needless to say, it isn't much fun trying to keep one as a pet.

Some immigrants, who strongly miss having dogs, are working on trying to transfer dog minds to larger (robotic) bodies. So far, however, they are having limited success. The dogs' minds have been too primitive to understand the change. This leads them to refuse to drink Energon, and as hunger signals mount, to chase down meat-based prey and eat that instead. The end result is that they gum up their engines before finally shutting down from lack of usable fuel. Needless to say, true dog lovers gave up the experiments since it caused the dogs extreme distress and then deactivation.

Despite this, rumor has it that Carjack's Bio-Analogous Modification Parts Company is currently working on some programming modules that the firm hopes will overcome these problems. The Company believes that by patching the dogs to interpret the taste of Energon as pure water - and converting all hunger signals to thirst commands - roboticized dogs will be able to remain perfectly functional without undue mental stress.

lananara is not earth. we have no true earth dogs or cats. we have cat-like sapients, of which your ambassador, meaning me, happens to be one. we also have somewhat cat-like small creatures with large butterfly wings called kitterflys. the navajali is a large cat-like preditor, but still unrelated to earth cats. we have many mustalid like species and several which resemble canids, but these are lananaran canids, not the earth variety.

non-sapients with which sapient cameroi share their living arrangements are not considered property, a concept which cameroi culture finds shocking and somewhat offensive, but more as little brothers, free to come and go and associate with us or not, as THEY see fit.

Dogs are more popular than cats in the TBRE, but none of them are really popular. We prefer our native furry legged-snake beast, the Swepartre, which is also semi-sapient.

It is said that every Sidh woman holds a slight resemblance to a cat in her gait and manners...

Sidhae aren't known for keeping any kinds of pets for practical reasons, but if they were, cats would definitely be more popular than dogs. Their pride and independent spirit is more to Sidh liking than the slavish obedience of the dogs. A dog will love you regardless of what you do or are, but it does take some effort to earn the love of a cat.

In many cultures, it is an insult to call someone a dog(spineless, easily controlled, sly, slavish, meek, dirty, promiscuous) . On the contrary, It does not make sense to insult someone by calling them a cat, cause cats are awesome. Cats are king of the beasts, they are graceful, strong, independent, dignified.

just look at this spineless dog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGiNjsXN9Nc&feature=related
