How do students in your nation react to the word Popularity

Postby Rainara » Sat Mar 24, 2012 6:16 am

In Rainara, many students don't want to gain popularity. Basically, Rainarians think that popularity is stupid as they say, "What's the use? Insecure people are the ones who only want to be popular."

There is "in" crowd in Cadaorian schools. There's only various cliques that rarely socialize amongst one another. Fights tends to break out between members of the cliques frequently, and in more than a few cases clique violence has killed students.

Despite their being no "in" crowd, their is an "out" crowd. Basically, you don't want to be seen with those people at any or all cost or your own reputation will suffer.

How do they react? Like this: .
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Well, we don't really have 'students' as such. In our country, if you haven't learned everything you need to know in life by about six months old, you're probably going to die. However, the adolescent years are seen as a good time to refine dominance techniques while muscle mass builds up and young males especially will tend to join bachelor groups where social 'popularity' is often quite literally a matter of life and death.

^ This.

Human TurtleShroomers, male and female alike, range from ugly to "plain" by foreign standards. We don't have physical beauty here, so no "in" crowd never actually developed.

Popularity in TurtleShroom's youth never took the theme of "mean girlz" or "in crowds" because everyone was so ugly that it didn't matter.

This being said, with the economy going down and a long history of poverty and humble farming, there are plenty of cliques. "Goths" are one of the most popular, though TS Gothicism focuses less on the occult and evil, and more on focusing on literature and intellect, alongside long hair, apathy, and dressing in lots and lots and lots and lots of black. (Emoism is a form of mental insanity: manic depressants that attempt to harm themselves are institutionalized or reprimanded by their parents and society. Gothicism became far more respected after the 2010 terror bombings, until then, one needed "a license to practice emo", even if one wasn't a manic depressant.)

Comically, EVERYONE is de facto a member of what foreigners would call a nerds' clique, because almost every human TurtleShroomer is skinny, lanky, and wears glasses so thick that the lenses are made of acryllic.

Most Nortoapocan students strive to be popular. Typically, the popular boys in Nortoapocan schools are the smart ones and the good athletes. For girls, popularity is based on looks and on having the right attitude (basically being nice to everybody). Popular students, male or female, tend to follow the rules and get along great with the staff. There are some students who rebel, but those are the unpopular ones and are frequently mocked. Basically, the way to be popular or at least accepted in our schools is to make your parents proud of you.

Almost all Demirilyns are introverts, and have a small number of very, very close friends, whom they would do anything for. Someone who has too many friends is seen as manipulative, greedy and intimidating and are not popular outside of their social circle.

Generally, there are some (mostly teenagers and young adults) obsessed with popularity, but eventually, they learn that such shallow things do not matter in our society and that merit and hard work are what truly matter.

Astrolinian Questioner: Tu, discipule - quomodo accipias verbum 'popularity'?
Astrolinian Student: Verbum 'popularity' non intellego - quid significat?
Questioner: Eh... hic significat gratia condiscipulorm.
Student: Certo gratiam condiscipulorum velim. Est uia ad prosperitatem inter condiscipulos. Modo qui gratiam tenent possunt puellas habere.

From this, it can be gleaned that students see popularity as the way to success amongst their peers. This is, unfortunately, an attitude that tends to consist well into the adult years.

Popularity is a major issue among the youth of Phalnia. These adolescents are human and therefore suffer from common human insecurities. As they age though most citizens grow out of it however there are cases where such insecurities lasts throughout a lifetime.

Its a word. The word itself has no meaning. Its the connection that defines, and that connection is weak when you care only for your small but strong group of freinds.

Some view it as an end itself. These ones make good marketers, merchants and actors.
Other views it as a means to an end. These ones usually make good CEOs and bankers.
Another portion usually ignore it. These ones make good scientists.

individuals are of course individuals, but it is mostly not an issue, owing to the nature of cameroi culture.

we don't actually have concepts like celebrity nor words for it.
we do have a concept of prestige, which is generally attributed to the creating beauty and generosity with one's creations.

student is about studying and popularity is about accompleshment. we do not overlink these concepts.

competitive grading for example, is therefor considered totally illogical.

things work the way they do, and the degree to which the way they work is comprehended is the degree to which it is.
so popularity has nothing to do with the learning students do as students, within the context of their doing so.

of course a student has a life outside of their studies, and creativity can, and often does, begin at a relatively early age.

and in cameroi culture, this is also something that is encouraged.

but not the vanity of popularity, if we are to understand the earth concept, which isn't.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"
