Political Leanings: Most Atalem are socialists, pleased that the Emirs have endorsed socialist policies. However, some are more inclined towards radical doctrines such as communism, and there is some tension between religious groups and various activist organizations. One interesting conflict in the Emirate is the sort of “cold war” between centrist Tengri sects and leftist Islamic sects.

HISTORY
For thousands of years, the Atalem were a nomadic people, confined to making small raids on the edges of civilization in order to survive and obtain those things which their flocks and herds could not provide for them. However, they soon came into conflict with a large empire.

Fearing utter destruction, the Atalem fled south and west. As they travelled, they learned many things from those they encountered. Gunpowder, the great religions of the world, and the art of siege warfare all soon reached the people. When they looked upon the land they call their own today for the first time, the people had already selected a man by the name of Erdeni to lead them as their Emir. He was chosen to aid his people in their time of need. It was he who led the charge into the valleys and mountains of what is now the Emirate, and who emerged victorious over the peoples inhabiting said valleys.

This, however, came at a cost. The Atalem were now watched closely by the nations of Trojans, and as they settled in, others realized that they were not a threat. Many nations in Trojans were already fully industrialized by the time the Atalem arrived, so Atalem forces stood no chance against theirs.

Current Government:
Emir: Sadik Ormuz

THE SIX VIZIERS

Image

ISLAM

The six viziers are elected once every four years, and the campaigns are actually rather short.

((OK, now I'm opening this up for critiques and other forms of assistance.))

The Royal Family

The Emir's family is a large one, at about 9 members.

At age 72, Erdeni Ormuz III is the longest-lived Atalem in history. However, his age has begun to catch up with him. He is currently in poor health, and our Emir worries for his father. Erdeni III, however, made many achievements when he was Emir, including defeating the last remnants of the Khagarzid Horde. However, he then willingly stepped down to allow his son to succeed him.

At age 65, Konya Ormuz is close to the end of her life. In her many years, she has seen great triumph and great disaster. However, perhaps her greatest triumph is the guidance she has provided to both her husband and her son over the years. Neither of them would be the men we know without Konya's input, and it shows in how she is received around the palace. Even though he now technically ranks higher than she does, the Emir still bows in reverence to his mother.

Emir Sadik Ormuz I is only 52 years old, but has accomplished much. He has overcome the invading nomads on several occasions, the first when he was only 11 years old! He has helped to introduce new laws that benefit the whole of the people, and he has made sure to appoint the best Viziers possible to the right positions. But beyond that, he has traveled all across the Emirate, and thusly endeared himself to the people! In more recent years, however, he has remained in the palace, if only because he can no longer ride a horse as well as he used to!

Ah, yes, Queen Sibel. At 49 years old, she has been by the Emir's side for as long as most can remember! The two were friends in their childhood, and it was always her who took action first. Even now, the Queen works behind the scenes to ensure the survival of the Emirate. However, she has had several extramarital relationships in the past, including one with the parents (yes, both of them) of Vizier Bouboulia. Rumours float around the palace staff that she might even by Vizier Soussanna's actual mother, which would make the Vizier a princess.

Princess Sibel Ormuz II, age 27... she has, for one, displayed an almost amorous respect for certain nations the Emirate as a whole find repugnant. While she is the eldest child, and therefore the rightful heir of the title of Emir, one must wonder what she plans. She has... issues dealing with males, save for her brothers Batu and Osman. Bey is another story altogether. The two never quite got along.

Prince Bey Ormuz, age 25... the thing most Atalem know about him is that he covets the throne promised to his sister. Even if the title of Emir is far more ceremonial than not, it comes with a level of respect that anyone could want. He also believes that he, as the eldest son, should have the throne. He cares not for the legislature, and wants absolute control of the Emirate. He has often been seen scheming with Aydin, and has always had a fondness for the sword. The Emirate has recently been informed of his untimely demise at the hands of a foreign power... this cannot bode well.

Prince Batu Ormuz, aged 10, is a bright, cheerful soul, and an interesting note about him is that he looks up to his sister Sibel more than to his brother Bey. He has even commented on wanting to be "just like big sister" when he grows up, although the detail he goes into... often disturbs visitors. In any case, he is incredibly curious, and highly protective of his little sister Fatima.

Princess Fatima Ormuz, aged 6, is the second youngest child. She hasn't done much of anything yet. However, she loves sweets and is quite interested in artillery. Like her brother Batu, she looks up to her sister Sibel.

Prince Osman Ormuz, aged 2, is the newest member of the family, and is adored by many in the Emirate. Even the legislature announced a special holiday concerning his birth, as it had been thought that the Queen would not be able to bear a fifth child. He recently spoke his first word, which just so happens to be "pointy."

The Legislature

Very little is known of the legislature, to be frank. The Emir announces any laws they might enact, but he himself has never seen any of them. Vizier Aydin was the only one of the viziers to see him... and now he is dead. What is known is that they are the lawmaking body of the Emirate, and that they operate in near-total silence. The general public has little idea who any of them are, beyond their names, many of which quickly fade into obscurity.

THE FALL OF ATALEM

[i]...hello there. I am merely a humble chronicler. No, I don't know how this happened!!! I'm hiding in one of the foreign embassies now...

...we're all going to die. The armies are beaten, everyone has fled... well, anyone who survived has. But they'll all be found, won't they? We can't hold on much longer here. I fear the worst. What will happen now? Someone please he/i]

... the record stops here. With all the blood, you can only wonder if this chronicler wasn't shot while writing this. That would suck.
