The Office of the President
The Grand Duchy of Noordeinde

The Grand Duchy of Noordeinde Political factbook.

The Grand Duke surrendered his powers 200 years ago and Noordeine became a democracy, meaning that it was up to the people how to govern their country. The Noordeindian Congress was founded and has two chambers: the House of Representatives & the Senate.

Though the Monarchy still exists, HRM the Grand Duke is only our 'Ceremonial Head of State'. This means that he/she doesn't have any powers anymore. The role of the Grand Duke now is actually only limited to advising the government. This includes but is not limited to the President, Members of the Cabinet, the Royal Noordeindian Supreme Court and the Noordeindian Congress. Said otherwise: instead of making the decisions himself he advises the ones whom have to make the decisions. Next to advising the Government the Grand Duke has a lot of other duties, including but not limited to cutting ribbons for example. Our current Head of Government is nowadays the President whom is elected by the people.

Image
The House of Representatives

Noordeinde has been split-up in 435 little congressional districts whom are also known as constituencies. Each district is equal to one seat in the House of Representatives. Every 4 years elections are to be held in a district between the candidates to decide who will become that district's representative in the House of Representatives. On this moment the Democratic party is has majority and the Republican Party the minority. Further there are 5 representatives from the Independant party.

Image
The Senate

Next to the House of Representatives, Noordeide has 51 States. Every State has 2 senators in the Senate. Just like elections for the House of Representatives each 4 years elections are held to decide what 2 candidates will represent their State in the Senate. If you can count you will notice that the Senate has 102 members. And just like in the Senate the Democratic Party has the majority party and the Republican party the minority and there are 3 Senators.

Both chambers have special commitees where in special subjects are handled in detail like defense, justice, education, healthcare etc... before they are being debated about on the plenary floor.

The President is elected for 4 year term in office. The Grand Duchy of Noordeinde has an electorial college whom will finnaly afther the people have voted decide whom will be elected President.

The political system is quite easy. A proposal starts in the House of Representatives, if it passes, it will be send for deliberations to the Senate. The Senate doesn't have as much power as the House of Representatives and may only check if proposals are unlawfull. If it is the proposal shall probably be defeated. But if the proposal passes it shall be send to the President for his signature.

To change the constitution there is another procedure. The bill needs to pass in the House of Representatives by a 3/4 vote. Then it needs to pass in the Senate as well. Aftherwards general elections are held for the House of Representatives and the new Congress needs to approve it ones more again by a normal majority before it finnaly ends up at the President.

Noordeinde and the Death Penalty

We do not have the death penalty in Noordeinde anymore. Only in very special occasions the death penalty can be legalized. The last time the Death Penalty was legal in Noordeinde was afther WWII when criminals which had commited warcrimes and/or crimes against humanity within Noordeinde during WWII were sentenced to death by a Military Tribunal.
