Factbook - The Kingdom of Malistance

Postby Malistance » Tue Aug 04, 2009 2:14 pm

Nation: Malistance
Ruler: King Iskale
Capital: Malistill
Population 5 Million

The kingdom of Malistance is divided up into 5 regions, each managed by a noble family, the
ruling lord granted a keep and is responsible for the safekeeping of his province and
peasantry.
Each Lord is required to provide a member of his family to be put in service to the King.
Once entering the Kings service the family member is considered divorced from the his
original family and loyal to the King only.

Climate:
The climate is generally mild, some harsh winters though nothing too fierce.

Geography:
The Southern and eastern regions are fairly flat and are predominantly farmlands. In the
North lies the capital city of Malistill. The western regions are quite hilly,
mountainous in some parts though mostly passable.

Culture and Society:
The ruling families are expected to work together for the betterment of the nation, however
competition for land, resources and the favour of the King is common. Subterfuge and
assassination have been known and as a result the noble families value intelligence and
wisdom, or in place of wisdom a devious nature to ensure they keep their place in society.
The peasantry are much as any peasantry, they live their lives under the protection of
their lords and are taxed for that right. They are at times of war required to answer the
call to arms though they are not natural soldiers.

There exists a middle section of society concerned mainly with trade. This is usually
richer more successful amoung the peasants and lower nobles, they are respected by the
peasants and tolerated by the ruling classes for the services they provide and the revenue
they bring to the country. They trade by sea and by land.

Military:

Militia Men:
Drafted by lords from the peasantry, they are not soldiers but have minimal training with
weapons. Equipment is a ragtag of anything that could be spared by the lord and anything
that could be put together by themselves.

Lords Infantry:
These are nobles and professional soldiers trained and maintained by noble families. They
are uniformed in Chainmail and trained with long swords and shorts swords. A portion of each
regiment is trained in marksmanship and use bows instead of swords.

Kings Cavalry:
The Kings cavalry are used only in times of war, they are well trained and equipped. They
ride heavy horse wearing chainmail armour and wielding spears.

Naval Units:
The seafaring traders have ships which can be drafted to transport troops by kings’ demand.
They will occasionally have combat ready ships crewed with mercenaries for protection of
their galleys.

Kingsblood (special):
A small unit of Elite soldiers sworn to serve the king in domestic and foreign wars. They
wear Plate mail and wield either a long sword or a mace. They are regularly trained and
drilled. The Kingblood are elite and highly respected, so much so that even the kings own
family serve in it (this is where the name comes from).

Unit sizes are something I’m not sure about, a little advice on numbers would be
appreciated.
