Political Campaigns: Privately or Publicly Funded ??

Postby GOLTZBORG » Fri Apr 15, 2011 7:54 pm

In your nation:.............>

Are political campaigns funded by private contributions, where a candidate can aquire as much capital for his or her election or re-elction; or instead, are political campaigns funded by govt / taxpayer contributions, where each candidate receives equal shares of capital for his or her election or re-election ??

Unequal private contributions can tend at times to allow a low-life to be able to win an election over one who is more qualified; whereby, on the opposite flip of the coin, equally distributed govt / taxpayer contributions usually tends to make the political playing / fighting field more level...which requires each candidate to show what he or she knows; thereby, the "best man ( or woman ) wins"....more times than not....if the electorate is well educated.

Political Campaigns are funded by private donations (which are capped under the law).

Taxpayer dollars do not go to supporting political campaigns...

Each major party (of which there are three) is given five million Thuraski dollars. No more, no less. When there is not an election, private funds are allowed to be given to the parties.

Privately, of course! Either raised by the candidate and the public who supports him or by corporations and other privately-run organizations that support him. Usually, it's both.

Contributions are private. The amount individuals can donate is capped at a certain amount, and the amount each candidate can collect is also capped. Corporations are not allowed to publicly endorse, donate to, or campaign for any candidates in any fashion.

National political campaigns in the USA are funded privately, as is appropriate.
Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi, also known as Colonel Gaddafi, siezed the leadership of Libya illegally through force of arms on 1 September, 1969. Those who call him the legitimate leader in Libya really need to do some more homework, and perhaps take a good look at themselves morally.

Both sides have problems, and the rebels are certainly working with criminals, but the man they are fighting is not a saint. Remove them both, and let the Libyan people decide. Is it too much to request a little backbone from our leaders in this?

A political party that receives more than 10% in the last election may receive a small supplementary public funding. The rest is private, with a capped limit for individuals and strict limitations on corporations endorsements and donations.

Media time and space are donated on an equal-access basis for all candidates. Private contributions would be theoretically possible but there is little use for them because the contributor would have nothing to gain. Other than enumerating their stands on the issues, candidates do little "campaigning".

They are all privately founded in a attempt to raise the popularity of the nobleman that held it and often involves him throwing money at the commoners.

In the GSD, we do not have political parties. Individual candidates are given a certain sum of money from the Government to use when campaigning. This money is available only to candidates who get 4% or more of the primary vote; candidates who do not reach this quota must return the money.

In addition, candidates are permitted to receive donations from private individuals to fund their campaigns. Companies are not permitted to donate money.

Privately funded with rather high caps and the rule that corporations cannot endorse a candidate.

They are privately funded. Candidates can use their own money, or money donated to them by individuals, organisations or companies.

Generally in a major election (say for president or prime minister) a political party will help raise money through both donations and their own funds to fund the campaign of their selected candidate.

There isn't really much necessity for funding in the Nefreedian democratic system. We have a Soviet democracy, that functions something like this:
Each Soviet (consisting of 101 people) elect 1 representative to the District Soviet.
The District Soviet elects 1% of it's members to the Regional Soviet.
Each Regional Soviet elects 0.5% of it's members to the Supreme Soviet (our parliament).

In each case, candidates only really need to talk to people. Not much need for funding at any level. The Communist Party have usually had some form of electioneering, along with the (now banned) Reform Party. Howevery, very little resources are spent on election campaigns in New Freedomstan.
