History
The continent of Gearria was discovered in the early 1700's. The empires of the world soon found out that remarkably there were no humans inhabiting this continent. By 1712 the first in a long line of colonizers claimed Gearria. But as time passed wars and treaties had traded Gearria between many nations, contributing to the multi-ethnic society. After the Great German War of 1940 the last Imperial power to claim Gearria took power. But tension rose between The Empire of Unified German States and the Gearrian Liberation Front reached a boiling point in 1998 when hostilities broke out between the two. But the Gearrian Revolution was a short conflict when it ended a month later. Due to international pressure and support for the movement of independence, the UGS recognized the independence of its former colony. The Colony of Gearria became the Allied States of Gearria.
But after about 4 years of self rule the Allied States of Gearria was falling apart. The different political parties began secretly supplying private armies for the coming civil war. In 2002 the Gearrian Civil War began between the three factions of Gearria. All representing a different political ideology. The federal government based in Khessed, a monarchy based in New Haven and a communist rule based in Steelport. It did not take long for the international community to get involved and just three months in Arcultia, Celis, Demphor, Bladia and Northern Bavungria all became involved on different sides. All casualties added Gearria lost more than three million people on all sides both civilian and military. The war lasted 18 months and ended in August of 2003. The war lacked a clear victor. But the Allied States of Gearria was no more. In it's place stood three different nations. The United Republic of Gearria which is the legal successor state to the Allied States. The Kingdom of Imperial Gearria which is the only monarchy which has been chosen to rule by the people of Gearria. And the United Socialist States of Southern Gearria a communist nation that occupies parts of southern Gearria.
The three Gearrian nations did not share a peaceful coexistence, constantly warring amongst themselves for little gain but much loss. However, the geopolitical stalemate between the three nations was recently broken by the outcome of the Fifth Gearrian War. A Gearrian victory in the War has given rebirth to the Allied States of Gearria, which looks forwards to a new and prosperous future.
Geography
The Allied States of Gearria occupies most of the northern region of the continent. The climate consists of warm summers and cold, moderately long winter, with several cities in the far northern areas receiving heavy snow fall due to the higher elevation. The Continental Mountains and Lugar River make up the border with the Kingdom of Imperial Gearria to the west and southwest. The southern border with The United Socialist States of Southern Gearria is marked by the Great River and the Matthewson-Debs Line. The Atlantic Ocean borders the nation's coasts and it has many lakes in the southern part of the country. The Allied States is divided into six semi-autonomous States: Kiessil, Riverside, Mayfield, The Heartland, The Oceanic Coast, and Dewater, along with the Lugar Military Territory and the Davesville Military Territory.
Government
The Allied States of Gearria is a full democracy with capitalism as its economic and ideological root. The Commons and Senate are the lawmaking bodies. All Senators and Members of Commons (MCs) are elected by popular vote. Any national law needs to be approved by the president. Local laws can pass without his approval. The National Court checks the other two branches for breaches of the constitution. There are multiple parties and the president is elected for a 4 year term. But can be removed from office if he is convicted for a crime against the people, in which case the Vice President takes his place.
