History

Postby Nurasia » Wed Mar 16, 2011 8:20 pm

Before the Mercenary Order was formed, the people of Nurasia were split up into few major tribes and many lesser tribes. These tribes were usually in a state of warfare between each other, usually over land and resource claims. After a few centuries of fighting, there arose one tribe of notable prowess, who manages to subdue many of the lesser tribes. This tribe was known as the Nur, which was lead by Jealiili Nauri, a man thought to be a descendant of giants because of his size and strength. With Jealiili at the head, the Nur tribe managed to ally themselves with some of the nearby major tribes, which knew that the senseless bloodshed could not go on any longer.

When the word spread that alliances were being formed, the most non-allied tribes sided with the Nur Alliance, which was undoubtedly the strongest alliance, while others who opposed the views of the Nur alliance formed their own alliance. A few more decades of open warfare between the alliances followed, until one day Jealiili offered the opposing side, who had received heavy losses, a chance to surrender unconditionally. The opposing alliance agreed to surrender and thus joining with the Nur Alliance.

After many months of peace tensions began to arise again. Jealiili consulted with the other tribal leaders, who then decided that the have been fighting for so long that it has become second nature to them and there was nothing for the warriors of the tribes to do now that the wars have stopped. They also discussed that since their land is so war torn they had to find a way to gain wealth quickly before the alliance collapses. Jealiili proposed that they become mercenaries. Their warriors would be able to fight and they would receive vast amounts of wealth quickly, effectively killing two birds with one stone. The tribal leaders agreed, and thus the Mercenary Order was born with Jealiili as its overseer.

A few years later, Jealiili married the daughter of the former opposing alliance, Xiana to solidify the bond between all the tribes. The couple has seven children; Amoiri, Soamoi, Hamoedu, Ababaso, Youlia, Adun, and Alia; five sons and two daughters. Jealiili raised these children to be possible future overseers, but there can only be one overseer. Jealiili from then on decided that in order for one to become an overseer, one must pass a trial in competency and courage.

Jealiili's reign did not last long however, as two decades later during an expedition to the north, he discovered a mountain that looked as if it were inhabited. Jealiili and his expedition force ventured into the deep caverns within the mountain, which seemed as if they went on forever, until the came across the lair of one of the most ferocious beasts in existence, a wyvern. The wyvern immediately attacked to group, killing most of the soldiers in one swipe with its barbed tail. Jealiili attempted to blind the wyvern by stabbing its eye, but he was viciously batted away by the wyverns wings. Jealiili told the rest of the troops to retreat and leave him, a he was badly injured. Reluctantly, the troops managed to escape.

When the troops arrived in the capital, they notified the family of Jealiili. They mourned his death for a while, but Lady Xiana realized that they would need a new overseer immediately, before the other tribes had any ideas. Each of the heirs began the trail for leadership, but only one passed. Amoiri Nauri was given the title of Overseer, and now it is up to him to lead Nurasia to a bright future.

Geography

Postby Nurasia » Thu Mar 17, 2011 7:25 pm

The Nurasian homeland comprises of mostly vast flatland. There are two major rivers, the Nulite River and the Malcia River, that are used as trade routes and for quick travel between the various provinces of the Nurasian homeland. There are few forests within the Nurasian homeland, most notably the Nevrodial and Ostia forests which have a vast number of exotic, mostly dangerous beasts. There is only one mountain in the Nurasian homeland, Mt. Nulite, which has vast underground caverns rumored to be the dwelling of Falkan, a wyvern of incredible size and very ferocious when it feels that its territory is being invaded.

Government

Postby Nurasia » Thu Mar 17, 2011 7:36 pm

The High Council of Nexus

The High Council of Nexus was named so because of the strong bonds that grew between the tribal leaders after the nation was fully established. This council is made up of all the major tribes of the Nurasian homeland. Each member of the council is given a specific duty of governance according to their knowledge in the field of duty as well as the title Minister to show their expertise in the matter, while the leader of the council is given the title of Overseer.

The tribes, their leaders and their responsibilities in the council are as follows:

The Nur Tribe: Amoiri Nauri; Overseer & Head of State

The Malcia Tribe: Uzanba Moali; Trade & Finance

The Aradis Tribe: Naebau Ariadu; Labor & Agriculture

The Botempo Tribe: Liotao Baotae; Law & Order

The Ostasia Tribe: Haesoso Osotaa; Homeland Defense & Military Research

The Crenz Tribe: Riamoku Ceriena; Military & Arcane Education

The Valcia Tribe: Duina Veali; Culture & Propaganda Management

Provincial Governors

Aside from their duties in the council, tribal leaders are responsible for the affairs of their own province which comprises of their tribe and the lesser tribes. To make sure that there is no resentment between the lesser and major tribes, each province has its own council under the leadership of the major tribe of that province.

Society

Postby Nurasia » Thu Mar 17, 2011 8:03 pm

Nurasian society has a fairly unique military culture. The citizens of Nurasia love to compete with each other in everything that they do as they believe that friendly competition produces greater results in all professions, weather it be warrior or farmer. Several events of this nature were formed out of this love of competing, and now there is one state endorsed competition for each known profession throughout different times of the year.

Tribal Society

Even though the tribes are united under one banner, the societal norms between the different tribes vary greatly. The tribe that one is born to is essentially that persons family. Only women are able to change tribes through marriage. The majority of the population of Nurasia is made up of humans. There are however elves as well, and they make up a fairly decent number of the lesser tribes. Outsiders are allowed to live in Nurasia, although they are generally looked down on as they could not be fully trusted. The majority of society is built around the Nurasian war path, with each tribe only a small part of the whole.

The Nur Tribe: A tribe of warriors. They highly value pure physical and mental strength, as it is said among them that even the strongest warrior will not live long if he cannot think soundly. They often have events in which they try to push the limits of their body and mind, after which they have a big feast to celebrate any accomplishments that they may have achieved. They are also adepts at taming wild beasts often using them as mounts during battles or expeditions.

The Malcia Tribe: A tribe of seafarers who greatly appreciate the craft of shipbuilding. They are the greatest shipbuilders and sailors in the Nurasian homeland. They often go on voyages searching for treasure, as well as experimenting on new, improved ship designs. They are also excellent bards, as they often sing when they are at sea to pass the time.

The Aradis Tribe: Dwellers of the driest region in the Nurasian homeland, their knowledge of irrigation techniques and plant breeding make them the most expert farmers of Nurasia. Their greatest accomplishment so far is the breeding of pest eating plants that provides its own, although poisonous, fruit, which if prepared properly can cure many illnesses.

The Botempo Tribe: The northern-most tribe of Nurasia. They are excellent mountain climbers and even greater archers. They are always improving their bows and arrows to make them capable to penetrate armor even in the highest peaks. Their mountain climbing skills also make them excellent at ambushing enemies.

The Ostasia Tribe: The horse riders of eastern Nurasia. Many of them practice archery as well as magic, with some of the mages mutating certain properties of their steeds for better performance. This act is generally looked down on, however, as the horses have a high chance of becoming abominations if they are mutated by a spell.

The Crenz Tribe: A tribe of magic users and blacksmiths. This unusual blend of traits makes this tribe excellent spell blades with their knowledge of enchantments and various classes of spells as well as their knowledge of how to use weapons to their fullest potential. Their enchanted weapons and armor make up the bulk of the Nurasian armories and shops. Very few objects in Nurasia are not enchanted.

The Valcia Tribe: As masters of alchemy, these people are renowned for their deadly poisons as well as their life saving medicinal potions. A few of the lesser tribes that live in the Valcia province have taken the profession of assassins and use these poisons to great effect.
